Print from a PC to a printer on a iMac

I want to know if I can print to my printer, which is plugged into my sisters iMac, from my PC. With my ibook it found the printer and was fine but the PC just doesn't see it.
Does anyone know how to do the impossible of getting an PC to talk to an Apple and see and use its printer?
My desktop using a belkin wireless, with a d-link router.
My sisters iMac is connected by airport.
The printer is an Epson R265.

Not using any mouse pad, I have a very smooth desktop. But I just tried to use a sheet of A4 printing paper, but no result, the problem persisted.
Someone on this forum suggested, that USB3 may interfere with the magic mouse.
I have 2 LaCie HDD's about 70 cm away from the mouse, I use them on Thunderbolt. But in operation or not - the result is the same, the mouse plays up! Just now I was clicking the desktop and the mouse created a new folder!!
    Thanks for the advice, Bee
    Cheers, Gerd

  • Wireless Printing from MacBook Pro and Windows 7 laptop through iMac

I have looked everywhere I can think and have not found a solution to this problem:
    I just bought a 21.5" iMac and a Windows 7 laptop. I already had a 15" Macbook Pro.
I have an HP C5280 printer that is now connected via USB to the iMac. All computers use my wireless home network using a Netgear N wireless router.
I cannot figure out how to print wirelessly from either the MacBook or laptop through the iMac. Printer software is installed on all computers and printer sharing is enabled on the iMac.

    Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
In the Finder go to Help>Mac Help. Select the Index, upper right. Go to S>Sharing printers. You will find instructions for configuring Macs and PCs for printer sharing among the articles available.

  • Cannot get printer to print with my iMac but will print from my dell laptop?

cannot get my printer to print with my imac but will print from my dell laptop?

OK, well you haven't provided any information so there isn't anything we can do. What is needed at the bare minimum is:
Exactly what printer are you referring to?
How is it connected to the iMac (USB, Wi-Fi, etc...)?
What steps you have taken to connect the printer?
What errors you have run into.
What I would recommend is using Apple's Printing Overview OS X Lion to learn how to install it. Also take a look at Printer and scanner software for Snow Leopard & Lion to see if it's even compatible with Lion.

  • Ethernet Print Server Keeps iMac G5 from sleeping

    Hello All,
I have a small home network setup with a router to share my DSL Internet connection.
My iMac G5 has never had any sleep problems before. But, with the recent addition of a US Robotics Ethernet Print-Server, the iMac G5 no longer sleeps automatically.
It will sleep fine if I use the power button to sleep it. But, it will not sleep if I let the "Energy Saver" activate it.
The iMac G5 does turn off the display when it is supposed to (in the energy settings). So, it will sleep the display. Just not the computer when the Print Server is attached to the network.
If I unplug the print server from the Ethernet, then the iMac G5 sleeps just fine when the energy saver kicks in.
Further, if the time to sleep has elapsed, and the computer is still awake, then I can unplug the print server from the Ethernet and the iMac G5 will go to sleep a couple of seconds later.
Interestingly, the Mac Mini I have doesn't stay awake. It sleeps just like it is supposed to. It doesn't care if the print-server is attached or not.
The Mac Mini and the iMac G5 are both configured to communicate with the Print Server. It uses AppleTalk to share my printer (a Hewlett Packard LaserJet 5mp).
The iMac G5 is running OS X "Tiger" 10.4.3 and is updated to the current level (all updates). The Mac Mini is running OS X "Panther" 10.3.9 with all the available updates installed.
The system specs are all in my footer below my message.
    Any ideas?
It is obviously the print-server keeping my system awake. If I un-plug it from the network then everything behaves perfectly normal.
Is there a setting somewhere to keep the iMac G5 system from listening to other devices on the network somewhere?
There is no bi-directional setting in the Print-Server. So, that shouldn't be the issue (plus the Mac Mini doesn't care).
The Print Server is a U.S. Robotics USR7500 Ethernet Print Server.
The website for my Print Server is at:
    http://www.usr.com/products/networking/networking-product.asp?sku=USR7500
Hopefully there is a setting somewhere that I can adjust in OS X Tiger to fix this.
The Wake on LAN setting is not turned on. So that's not it.
I also just checked, and the scheduled sleep will work. So, it is just the "inactivity" setting that is giving me trouble.
Like I said though, if I unplug the Ethernet Print-Server, then everything works exactly as it should.
I'll look forward to any ideas you might be able to offer.

    Update:
    Hello All,
I found out what was causing the machine to not sleep.
My built-in Firewall was configured to block UDP communications.
I discovered, quite by chance, that the Print Server was sending a UDP signal to my Mac every 30 seconds or so. I have no idea why, especially since the Print Server should be a receiver not a sender.
As an experiment, I disabled UDP blocking in the FireWall, and my machine went to sleep just like it should.
Any ideas as to why the Print Server would be sending a UDP signal?
Here's an excerpt from my firewall log:
===== Display starts at offset 196869 within file of length 327941. ====
    ===== Use File->Reload (Cmd-R) to display more. ====

and it keeps going like that for 12 hours or so.
The print server is setup to allow for TCP/IP, NetBEUI, and AppleTalk communication.
I'd like to hear any ideas as to how to get rid of this UDP so I can re-enable the blocking feature in the Firewall.
I do need to keep features enabled that are required to allow my wife's portable PC with Windows XP to print to the server as well.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Printing to an iMac wired printer

    Hello,
I have a wired printer connected to my iMac with a USB cable. I am able to print to this perfectly after the software update utility downloaded the printers driver.
I logged into my Mac Book Air which is on the same network as the iMac, only it is connected wirelessly, and I began trying to print to the printer connected to the iMac; it is a shared printer. The Mac Book Air finds the device on the network and attempts to acquire the drivers from the iMac but I get a message which says words to the effect of 'unable to acquire driver' or 'unable to communicate with source'. I find this to be an odd message because I am able to share all sorts of files between the two computers, yet when it comes to the iMac needing to provide a driver to the Mac Book Air, it fails spectacularly at doing this.
One thing that has made me disgruntled is the fact that I have a 3 year extended warranty for my iMac which entitles me to technical/customer support via the Express Lane telephone service; naturally I phoned Apple to ask why the shared printer cannot be utilised from my Mac Book Air and the representative responded with questions like "can you even print to a wired printer wirelessly over the same network from another device?". I was surprised at the dire level of expertise that I was provided with over what I thought would be a relatively easy issue to solve. Instead, the representative couldn't help in any way and promised i'd get a phone call from the team that deal with issues that have been escalated; so far, there has been no communication from Apple. Perhaps I should reclaim my money back for paying out several hundreds pounds for a shoddy non-responsive service.
I'd appreciate it if anybody from this particular support community has any ideas on what I should do to get this solved as I'm not wasting another lot of 30 minutes on the phone with Apple.
    Mark.

I just thought I'd add that the Mac Book Air was able to print to the iMac printer at some point in the past and it does have a copy of the printer driver has I acquired it from the Canon website. The fact that the Mac Book Air requests for the driver from my iMac when it attempts to communicate with the printer confuses things further.

  • Printer recommendations for iMAc Core Duo

Greetings! I need a recommendation from anyone who is successfully using a multi function printer with an iMac Core Duo. I am returning an EPSON CX5800f because the scanning driver does not work. The printer works great but the scanner does not. Any success stories? Thanks Billy D

Hello, again! I am back. I returned the EPSON today and I am looking at an HP OfficeJet 7310 for printing, faxing, and scannng on my iMac Core Duo running OS 10.4.6. Any one with good or bad experiences with the 7310? I received an email back from HP saying that the 7310 would work with Intel Macs but I see no such indication on their web site driver download page. Plus HP has not said that the scanning driver for the 7310 would work with the iMac Core Duo. Any comments? Thanks!

  • Why won't my iMac print consistantly to my compatible HP 6500A? I've checked for updates and downloaded the lasted software...still can't print. All my other Mac devices find the printer but the iMac is hit and miss. I'm operating the Mac OS X Lion 10.7.

When you say hit and miss do you mean sometimes you print a whole document with no problems, or do you mean each document has problems? This is from HP's website for your printer:
Your sig says 10.6.7 but your message says 10.7. So if it's really Lion, this printer isn't officially supported. Elsewhere on HP's site it says updated drivers will be available on your Mac via Software Update. Have you run that recently?

  • Share printer to new iMac

Hello. I just ordered my first Apple computer today. I am a long time PC owner, but have used Macs at work for the past few years to run apps like FInal Cut/DVD Studio etc.
I have an HP Inkjet copy, scan, fax and printer hooked up to my HP computer. The printer is not networked, but it is shared, so I can print from my laptop. Obviously I can't use the scanner unless I drectly hook it up to my iMac, but I would like the option to be able to print to it. With my laptop, I just conneted to the desktop over my network, and dragged the printer icon into my laptops' printer control panel folder. Can I do something similar to share my printer to my iMac for printing? Thank you very much for any help.

    There are also many resources available right on your new iMac that answer questions such as this. In the Finder Help menu is an app called Mac Help. The following is from Mac Help;
Setting up to print to a printer shared by a Windows computer via SMB/CIFS
You can print to a printer connected to a Windows computer, if it supports SMB/CIFS and has been set up to be shared. You need to ask the printer's owner for the printer's workgroup and for any necessary user name and password.
    1. Open the document to print, and choose File > Print.
    2. Choose Add Printer from the Printer pop-up menu, and then click More Printers.
    3. Choose Windows Printing from the top pop-up menu, choose a network workgroup from the pop-up menu that appears directly below it, select a workgroup from the list, and click Choose.
    4. Any Windows printers in the network you've chosen appear in the Printer List.
    5. Select the printer, choose its model from the Printer Model pop-up menu, and then click Choose. Enter the user name and password for the printer when prompted.
    6. IMPORTANT: Be sure to choose the correct printer model for the printer you're using. For more information, see the documentation that came with the printer. If you have an HP PCL compatible printer that is not listed in the Printer Model pop-up menu, choose the printer model that most closely matches your printer. See the link below for a list of printers and the models they most closely resemble. (You may need to scroll down part way to see the table.)
If your computer cannot determine the options that are installed on your printer, a dialog appears that lets you choose those options. Make sure the settings in that dialog accurately reflect your printer's installed options so you can take full advantage of them. Then click Continue.
If you are trying to add a Windows printer that is not available, contact your network administrator for assistance.

  • Printing problems with Lexmark Wi-Fi printer linked to iMac

We have a Lexmark X6570 Wireless printer. This unit works flawlessly with our MacBook Pro on the AirPort Express Wi-Fi system in the house, whihc was the first Apple computer we bought in September 2007. More recently, in November 2008, we purchased a second Mac, an IMac 24-inch desktop and linked it to the AirPort Express. The problem is that we cannot print via the iMac. Whenever we ask for a print of a Mail message, a Safari web page, an Adobe Reader page, a TextEdit page or a Pages file (when we are actually working on a draft), the application closes by itself and we get the following error message (for the Mail example): "The Mail application had to close unexpectedly. The problem could be caused by the IJPrintQuality module". By the way, the only time the printer actually printed from the iMac was when I open a saved Pages file. Then it prints OK and almost every time. But that is the only instance when the iMac prints from the Lexmark. We have spoken to Lexmark on numerous occasions and reinstalled all drivers and all Lexmark software on the iMac, but without success.

For those running into this same prpoblem, Lexmark foun a solution for me. If you get that error message, try to access your HD -> Library -> Printers -> Lexmark -> PDE's folder. Under that folder, locate the IJPrintQuality, then remove it. Then try to print again. If you get another similar error message, you may also have to remove three other plug-ins: IJAdvancedOptions, IJColorOptions and IJPrinterServices before the programs stops crashing. I am now testing the printing of different documents from different applications, and it continues to work well.
