  • Error message when I try to copy new files (images, documents) to mac from flash drive/SD card

I am recieving an error message when I try to copy new files (images, documents) to mac from flash drive/SD card. The message is saying "operation cannot be completed because an item already exists with that name." They are brand new therefore not the same name? I cannot even put them in a brand new folder...  How can I fix this?
    Please help me!

You don't need to recover the system.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ If you’re running Mac OS X 10.7 or later, open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Drag or copy — do not type — the following line into the Terminal window, then press the space bar:
    dot_clean -m
Switch to the Finder and drag the icon of the flash drive into the Terminal window. Some text will appear after what you entered. Press return.
The command may take a noticeable amount of time to run. Wait for a new line ending in a dollar sign (“$”) to appear. Then quit Terminal and try the copy again.

    HI Brigdool,
It depends how you made the backup.
If you copied your entire iTunes folder onto the flash drive, just copy it back to the appropriate place on the computer.
If you copied individual folders or files, add them back to iTunes by inserting the flash drive in your computer, and then dragging the files into your "Automatically Add to iTunes" folder.
The first method recreates your library as it was, with all playcounts, playlists, etc.  The second method builds a new library with the same content.

I tried tonnes of method already, and the apple guide method absolutely doesn't work for MacBook Air, 10.9.1
Did you even tried it yourself????!! with Maverick 10.9.1 you will NOT be able to get pass the bootcamp first page:"install window 7". It will give an error msg saying "The installer disc could not be found"
My usb confirmed bootable! I created it with bootcamp, and tested it on a different macbook and it works. But doesn't work on MacBook Air. (Even startup disk doesn't detect it as bootable in Air)
anyone else has a real solution to this problem?
Thousands have successfully tried it themselves and installed Windows on a Macbook Air. Perhaps if you provided some details about what you did and what errors you observed we could help you. The Boot Camp instaructions, if followed, will produce a successful install.

  • Transferring music from flash drive

My old laptop died but luckily my hard drive was intact so I was able to transfer my itunes to a flash drive. Now that I have a new computer, how do i transfer music from flash drive to itunes on my new computer (windows)?

    Drag and drop.
When I moved music from my old to new computer I just dragged the files into the 'my music' folder on my computer. Then did have to import the folder into iTunes.
If you have a lot of playlists etc, I believe there is another way that'll preserve more of that info. I'm not familiar with it since I don't use the playlist feature.

  • Problem importing photos to iPhoto Library from flash drive

When I try to import photos from flash drive into iPhoto library, they seem to import just fine. BUT if I close iPhoto and then return later, the photos I supposedly imported from the flash drive are not in the Library, and a screen prompt tells me the "source is not available". Photos import into Library from digital camera just fine. Why are the photos from my flash drive not staying in the Library? Kinda defeats the purpose of a Library if images won't stay in it. Please help!

Are you running a Managed or a Referenced Library?
A Managed Library, is the default setting, and iPhoto copies files into the iPhoto Library when Importing. The files are then stored in the Library package
A Referenced Library is when iPhoto is NOT copying the files into the iPhoto Library when importing because you made a change at iPhoto -> Preferences -> Advanced. (You unchecked the option to copy files into the Library on import) The files are then stored where ever you put them and not in the Library package. In this scenario you are responsible for the File Management.

  • How to remove document from Flash drive after printing from a PC

    Hi All,
Here's my problem: Today I needed to print an MS Word file at a printshop, so I saved the document onto my Flash drive and took it to the shop. There, the staff printed the document from a PC and handed the drive back to me.
Now, back at home, I want to delete this document from the Flash Drive. I plug in the drive, select the document and drag it to the trash. But then I get this message: " The operation cannot be completed because you do not have sufficient privileges for document X".
This is a document I created from scratch, so I should have read/write privileges, yet the document on the drive is Read Only.
I went back to the shop, and they get the same message.
If I try to use disk utility to erase the disk, it appears as an MS-DOS FIle System (FAT 16) disk, and the erase buttons are "greyed out".
How can I erase this document? Or how I can I reformat the drive?
    Any help much appreciated!~

I think I just solved my own problem. Just tried pressing the option and command keys at the same time while dragging the document into the trash and now it's gone. For good, I hope....Phew!

  • Officejet 150 only prints/reads pictures from Flash Drive??!!

Everytime I try to print something off my flash drive, the printer will only search for pictures.  It doesn't recognize that there are PDF or Word documents on there.  Is there something wrong or can it only read/print pictures from the flash drive.  Same thing happpens when I try it with a SD card.
    Help??!!

    Hi Emmee102,
The Officejet 150 can only read photo files from the USB flash drive and SD card.
A couple of workarounds can enable you to print from your ipad to the OJ 150:
    1) convert your pdf/word files into jpeg/jpg format and save to the flash drive/SD card
    2) use print screen from your PC , this is good if you only have a few pages in your document.
    Hope this helps.

  • Boot from flash drive

Is T400s capable of booting from a flash drive?  Some Linux vendors have their live versions on flash drives and I would like to try them out.  I have a Linux live CD but the drive makes too much noise and is relatively slow when I use it.

My trusty old T400 certainly is.  Hit F12 during boot and see if your flash drive shows up in the boot menu.

  • Music files from flash drive to new itunes

ive been slowly transfering music from my old PC to a music library on my MBP.  the weird thing is that on a fair number of folders, when they transfer, some songs seem to get left behind and not copied.  i'll have an album with 11 tracks, and move it as usual to the flash drive, then when its gets loaded onto the mac three or four of them are gone.  i must be really behind the times, because i cant fathom the file allocations that itunes uses.  ill load the batman begins soundtrack folder into the music folder, and it will split it into to two separate files - one with the original folder title and another with the artist listed and consolidiating them manually doesnt work.  it just resplits the **** thing - am i still to PC-if-fied?

... unless you have a backup copy of your *iTunes library file*. do you use time machine or any other means of backing up ?
What is the easiest way to link the now newly installed itunes to these external files?
if the answer to above question is no, you will have to start from scratch, i.e. no playcounts, ratings, playlists, etc. from your old library will be there.
assuming you have *copy files to ... when adding to library* checked in preferences > advanced, option-drag the folder containing your media files into an open iTunes window. iTunes will index the path to the location of the original files, but won't copy them physically.
btw, pointing *iTunes media folder location* to another spot will only tell iTunes where to put newly added content, not where the current content is.

  • Itunes Music Not Recovered From Flash Drive

I backed up my itunes library on a flash drive.  My new computer will not play Apple purchases.  The error messages are "Computer not authorized", even though it has been, or "Original file could not be found" and the file will not come up when I hit the "locate" button.  The Apple store has no record of former ID's under my e-mail address, and only has one purchase on record.
I have not had any problems with Amazon purchases.

    Hello Limnos,
Thanks again for all your help.
Since my initial response I've looked in a little more depth at the track names.
All my files are stored and played at CD quality from the original CD rather than MP3.
It appears that track names are extracted from the Library and look a little different from those that appear in the iTunes playlist.
I see now that the first element of the track name is the track number from the original CD. So if my playlist is made up of 3 CDs then all the track 01s get stored first and played first, followed by track 02s etc.
I do not think it will take a great deal of effort to renumber the tracks from 01 to xty in what ever order I want them played since I usually play complete albums all the way through.
    Thanks again,  Steve.
BTW. Based on this I went out today and bought an 8Gb flash drive that I shall use to take our music with us on holiday.  Saves a great weight in CDs! (and lets us get under new airline weight restrictions)

  • Reloading itunes from flash drive

My daughters PC had to be re-imaged due to a virus. She had all her itune songs backed up to a flash drive. No folders, just the individual songs. How do I get them back onto her PC now that itunes has been re-installed?

    Hey there,
You should just be able to highlight all the songs from the flash drive and drag them over to iTunes when you have it opened (or if you have them in a folder, just drag the folder into iTunes).
Or you can click File -> Import File to Library, (or if you have a folder, choose Import Folder to Library) and then locate the folder or file from the flash drive and then click Open.

  • Printing from Flash

(I just changed my first posting in this thread to give it a
new headline. The original one was "SWF embedded in a PDF - can
they communicate?", but it turned into a printing thread - with a
    solution.)
I'm trying to build a printable form with multimedia help
(this is a free project, I don't get paid). Since I can't create
PDF from Flash I instead try to get the Flash into the PDF. It
would be very helpful (although probably not essential for this
particular project) if the embedded Flash could communicate with
the PDF on the outside, for example using ExternalINterface. That
interface is for communication with Javascript in a browser - and
since Acrobat forms support Javascript scripting I was wondering if
that would work? The docs only mention browsers.
Another question to achieve the same thing: I thought about
letting the user fill out the form in Flash completely. Then I
export the collected data into XML, and then open a PDF form which
    reads the XML. However, I don't think there's a non-manual (for the
user) way of doing this, is there? Ahhhhhhrg, stupid project, why
    did I volunteer...

Well flash can do the printout as well...so you don't need
the PDF exclusively for that. I think the difficulty is the local
    copy working without complications/complexity. {UNLESS: you're
    prepared to use a projector .exe}
When you embed a swf inside a PDF how is it embedded... ? Is
the embedded object able to be referenced, for example, using the
    js inside a PDF.
Its been a long time since I used acrobat. ExternalInterface
does allow communication between the flash content and its
container - in a generic sense - like kglad explained earlier. So
ExternalInterface works in visual basic for example. It doesn't
appear to work as simply as its set up to work in the browser (see
    http://vbfeeds.com/post.aspx?id=672).
Whether it works or how it works inside a pdf would probably depend
on the way the embedding is done, but I can't see anything online
about how to do it - and I am unable to try it myself.

  • Can't import photos from flash drive

When I try to import photos from a flash drive, the images do not stay in the Library -- the next time I open iPhoto, I can see the photos but when I try to edit them, I get a screen prompt that the "source is unavailable - can't access the JPEG". To access the photo & edit I have to use the flash drive -- which kinda defeats the purpose of "importing" them in the first place. Why are the photos imported from my flash drive not staying in the Library? I have no problem importing images from digital camera -- those remain in the Library once imported. Please help!

Thanks! A quick review of Preferences revealed the "Copy imported items to Library" was indeed unchecked -- though I don't recall ever unchecking it (as I just started using iPhoto recently). But I have re-checked it and expect the problem to be fixed. Just one un-referenced Library will work just fine for me.

  • How to run java on computer without java from flash drive

Im running a chess club at school and the school computers, you aren't allowed to install on the hard drive.
Is there a way to put an ide and the java folder containing the jre and jdk on a flashdrive and run the ide and run programs solely from the lfashdrive?

Yes. put the JDK (not the separate JRE) on the flash drive. The JDK contains a JRE.
Plug the flashdrive into a computer you control. If that computer already has the desired JDK installed, copy the JDK directory (all of it) to the flash drive. Otherwise, do an install of the JDK to the flash drive.
To run Java application programs use a command that provides the full path to the java.exe program, for instance (in Windows)
    *<drive letter>:\<some directories>java <the name of your program>*
You could create a bat file to make this easier to type.
You can't run applets or anything else that depends on Registry entries.
