Print from Flash Output
Using Word input, Robohelp 6
We are in the process of buying the software - and
unfurtulately my demo version ran out.
For online output, I prefer to use Flash, but RH 5X would
only allow you to print the current topic page. In order for the
reader to print a topic PLUS subtopics, you would need to create
chm output.
Does this limitation still apply with v 6?
Hi again
Can you search across a set of chm files as you can across
FlashHelp topics/projects?
Ummm, I think you may be a bit confused about FlashHelp. You
can't currently merge FlashHelp output and search across multiple
projects. Not in the basic FlashHelp output. Now if you are using
RoboHelp 6 and creating FlashHelp
Pro output and publishing that to the RoboHelp Server (an
additional component at an additional charge) it's possible, but
not with the base output.
Printing from .CHM also is fraught with issues. This stems
from the fact that when you do it, a large concatenated temporary
file is created. During that process, the links to your style
sheets become munged and are unable to be found, resulting in less
than satisfactory print.
Because of this, I'd suggest following the PDF route. After
all, that's the selling point of PDF. It faithfully reproduces in
print what you intended. Then provide a link to the PDF for those
that choose to create printed output.

(I just changed my first posting in this thread to give it a
new headline. The original one was "SWF embedded in a PDF - can
they communicate?", but it turned into a printing thread - with a
solution.)
I'm trying to build a printable form with multimedia help
(this is a free project, I don't get paid). Since I can't create
PDF from Flash I instead try to get the Flash into the PDF. It
would be very helpful (although probably not essential for this
particular project) if the embedded Flash could communicate with
the PDF on the outside, for example using ExternalINterface. That
interface is for communication with Javascript in a browser - and
since Acrobat forms support Javascript scripting I was wondering if
that would work? The docs only mention browsers.
Another question to achieve the same thing: I thought about
letting the user fill out the form in Flash completely. Then I
export the collected data into XML, and then open a PDF form which
reads the XML. However, I don't think there's a non-manual (for the
user) way of doing this, is there? Ahhhhhhrg, stupid project, why
did I volunteer...Well flash can do the printout as well...so you don't need
the PDF exclusively for that. I think the difficulty is the local
copy working without complications/complexity. {UNLESS: you're
prepared to use a projector .exe}
When you embed a swf inside a PDF how is it embedded... ? Is
the embedded object able to be referenced, for example, using the
js inside a PDF.
Its been a long time since I used acrobat. ExternalInterface
does allow communication between the flash content and its
container - in a generic sense - like kglad explained earlier. So
ExternalInterface works in visual basic for example. It doesn't
appear to work as simply as its set up to work in the browser (see
http://vbfeeds.com/post.aspx?id=672).
Whether it works or how it works inside a pdf would probably depend
on the way the embedding is done, but I can't see anything online
about how to do it - and I am unable to try it myself. -
Hi all,
When I go to print from an Air output, the formatting is a
little wacky. It appears that when it prints, it enlarges the
content to fill up the whole page, which leads to large fonts and
screen shots being chopped off.
Is there any way that I can use a print.css? I've tried so
far and it doesn't appear to work. I was hoping someone knows a
nice work-around that can make printing from Air look nice instead
of having everything blown up.
Thanks in advance.Hi,
I tested this function after reading Moranis's post. Same for
me.
The solution suggested by Rick is OK if you want to print the
PDF version of the help - which has to be prepared an distributed
and which, depending on the size of the help, can be huge. And then
the user would still have to find the page corresponding to the
current topic.
But I think most users will just want to print the topic
displayed, and right-clicking was the simple way to do it and get
the same result as what you saw on screen.
I think there is an issue here for future improvement. For
those interested, there's a feature request form available at:

Printing from Script Output tab defaults to Tray 1
Using the print icon on the Script Output tab sends the document to our multi-tray printer (a HP LaserJet 4050TN) but defaults to Tray 1 - the manual input tray. There is no way to change it - even choosing a specific tray in the print properties doesn't appear to do anything.
Any ideas?
Cheers

This problem has been reported before:
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/chromebook-central/xHLtvK4YK0I
The Duplex setting in the Cloud Print dialog works for the pending print job, but changes to the setting don't "stick". I've worked around by leaving a stack of our normal print paper in tray 1, in addition to the stack in tray 2. Chromebooks print to the Tray 1 by default; local workstations print to Tray 2. Ugly; will shorten life of device. -
Printing from FLASH without "Print dialog Box" Pop-up window?
hi guys,
i got a flash + OSX question, maybe someone can help me,
i'm working on a Adobe Flash (Flash version 9, actionScript
3) project, running on a MacOS X 10.4, on a core2duo iMac, it is
connected to a printer (Xerox Phaser 6360).
- the flash will be displayed in full screen.
- it is a "create your own postcard- &- print it out"
flash-based multimedia project.
- so Flash will need to print stuff.
issue is:
- everytime when something need to be printed, macOS X will
prompt a "Print Box" pop-up window say Cancel or Print (see my jpeg
below).
- so it might overlap on top of my Flash project, which is
running full screen (so having the pop-up window overlapping my
flash is no good).
so i need a solution to avoid this, any idea?
what i can think of are:
A- is there a way to avoid/by-pass this step? meaning a way
not to show this?
or
B- or is there a shareware/way to "auto-click RETURN button"
so even this screen appear it will be "auto-click" away.
or ..C?
i knew there is a Plug-in (or Xtra) for Macromedia Director
called: Print-o-matic,
the URL is:
http://www.printomatic.com/products.cfm/
it work well on the Director on Mac OS7, but they only made
it for Director & Authorware, not Flash :-( do you know
something similar for Flash?
this
is the pop-up Print dialog box i meant (which i want to avoid),
or u can copy the URL to view there:
http://photos-g.ak.facebook.com/photos-ak-sf2p/v193/184/11/743997016/n743997016_546542_881 6.jpg
about the printer URL:
High
speed color for high volume printing - Phaser 6360
hope i'm able to get a solution here.
thanks guys,
cheers,

Printing from Flash player is blank
Not sure when this started but I can no longer print any .swf
files. The files appear on screen fine, but the pages are blank
when printed. I tried player 9, and just downloaded the latest and
I am having the same issue. With files online and off. I am using
Mac OS X version 10.5.5Thanks for the advice. I did all you suggested and then tried it. Looks like everything boils down to Page Setup. I have two printers here at work and everything works fine if I set the HP Color Laserjet as my default in Page Setup. However, if I use the Canon MP830, the page goes wacko like before. For the Canon, the Canon IJ Driver (ver 4.8.3) was automatically selected at installation.
Doesn't matter which printer I print to...it all seems to depend on which printer I select in Page Setup. Any ideas on what is going on? -
Printing from Flash page is too large for paper size
Here's what happens: I go to a favorite Sudoku web page (http://games.latimes.com/indexsudoku.html?uc_featurecode=lasud) and hit the "print" button on the page to print the puzzle. When I look at it in Preview, the puzzle extends off the page on the right and bottom. The same happens when I print it directly to my printer. Also happens if I select "Save to PDF". It seems that somewhere between the web page and my Mac, something forgets or ignores that my default printer is letter size and insists that my paper is larger.
If I print the same puzzle in my Windows virtual machine to the PDF printer, the puzzle is normal. So, I figure something is amiss on the Mac side and I don't have a clue what it is. (I am new to Mac). Thanks for the advice. I did all you suggested and then tried it. Looks like everything boils down to Page Setup. I have two printers here at work and everything works fine if I set the HP Color Laserjet as my default in Page Setup. However, if I use the Canon MP830, the page goes wacko like before. Missing Left line on all the invoices when printing from APPS
Hi Guys,
I need help here as i am learning XML. I customized one of my invoices RTF template and looks fine. When i generate the Invoice output from Apps through concurrent manager I am getting output with missing left line. When i tried to print from View Output its printing fine.
Is anyone came across this? Please let me know if anybody has solution.
Thanks in Advance,
KumarWhen you hit Print, is the dialog that comes up really small? If so, there's a triangle you can hit to the right of the Printer menu in the dialog that'll expand it to full size. This was something Apple added in 10.5 to simplify printing, but it's caused a lot of confusion.
If that's not it, are any of the menu items in the middle menu (the one that starts out saying "Layout") crossed out? If so, you're probably running in 64 bit mode and the printer driver probably does not work in 64 bit. If you're using the latest driver, then try launching Lightroom in 32 bit mode (in the Finder, do Get Info on the application and check Open in 32 Bit Mode).
If neither of those work, let me know.

4650dn printer changing document output from print preview
recently installed 4650dn printer set up was a breeze, then suddenly the printer started changing the document output like there was an internal setting overriding the software settings. almost as if it was confused about the orientation of the paper. i am running vista with the print driver PCL 5. i have tried restoring factory settings, tried different software, finally got it to work in MS word but prefer to use MS publisher, adobe illustrator etc.
Hi Narasimhan,
Yes, your guess is correct. We have tried out the possibility of controlling the print from the user status configuration side of things, but as the user status is at an Operation level, the system status at the header level still gets set, confusing the user that a print was created.
Any other ideas / alternates ?
Cheers,
Ashok. -

Not sure if I'm in the right place to post this question....
When I try to print (from ANY app; Photoshop, InDesign, etc.) to my hp business jet inkjet printer, I get a print menu, but no where on the print menu (or any pulldown tabs) do I have an opportunity to select paper type or output quality. I am unable to print photos, for example.
The printer worked fine with the old PC; there is no driver to d/l for mac.
Only from iPhoto can I select paper type (from a limited number of choices), but not from any other app on my imac. I mostly use InDesign and print flyers and brochures, many with photos, and can't select anything other than plain paper. Do I need a new printer? Genius bar 'help' said they had no idea why it wasn't working....
HELP!!!
Thanks!Hi Duane,
Yes, I opened the Printer Driver package, and then pulled up my test InDesign file and selected File>Print, and here's the screen i get: (hope this works, I'm trying Skitch for the first time)...

Click for full size - Uploaded with plasq's Skitch
when I click on "Setup" in the print menu box, I get this screen:

Click for full size - Uploaded with plasq's Skitch
I've clicked on each topic on the left on the Print menu, and still there is no where to select paper type or output resolution.
The same thing happens when I print from Photoshop.
Thanks.
