Print from Sun ONE

I am trying to print files from Sun ONE on my laptop running SuSE 8.0. Every time I try to do anything related to print, I get the message 'Print Service not found'. I am wondering if I am missing something or is printing from Sun ONE not supported in Linux environment. Thanks ..

Hep, we have the same problem. I am still trying to figure out why. I have some idea about the reason but I am testing my founding. It seems to me that the problem shows up when I add my database driver in Runtime/Databases/drivers tree (IBM DB2 driver: db2jcc.jar)
Like I am saying I am still checking the connection. When I am convinced that indeed that is the problem, I will then try to find out why and what to do to make my life easier.

Migrating data from Sun ONE directory server into openLDAP

Hi,
I was to migrate the data from Sun ONE directory server into openldap. Has anybody done this or know about this. Can you please share the steps that needs to be done.
NOTE: I have exported the data into LDIF file but when I run with ldapadd into the open ldap
ldap_add: Invalid syntax (21)
additional info: objectClass: value #1 invalid per syntax
Are there specific schemas that i need. Where can I find them?

Why would you want to migrate data into an OpenLDAP server ?Good Question, let me explain you my problem with Sun DS.
No Question DS is the better product (even Red Hat realized this).
Problem: DS is not a base Solaris 10 OS component, for patch support
you need some additional plan, now sun marketing nightmare comes ;o)
Every year service plans are changed (want a SJES or a DS or a DSEE ?)
so use solaris with OpenLDAP, or linus with NSDS.
Sun please give us a Solaris Core Component called LDAP Server (no need for trillions of entries).

Problems with xalan migrating from Sun One 7 to Sun One 8.1

I'm migrating one application from Sun One 7 to Sun One 8.1, my problem is when I use xalan/xerces to transform XML/XSL appears the following error:
javax.xml.transform.TransformerException: java.lang.NullPointerException
I put my xalan/xerces version in my WEB-INF/lib but I think that the problem is that internally the server use its xalan that is a strange version, because in MANIFEST file put 2.6.0 version but I compared with 2.6.0 of xalan and it's different.
How any idea to solve this?

As you have an existing portal installation, you will need to have the 9iAS Portal 3.0.8 Upgrade Scripts in order to upgrade to 3.0.8. We expect to have these 3.0.8 upgrade scripts available next week (April 23-27) for download from OTN.
With regards to import/export, Import/Export Utilities currently will ONLY work between portal installations which are at the SAME VERSION LEVEL.
The 3.0.8 upgrade process is an "in-place" upgrade, meaning that it upgrades an existing installation to the 3.0.8 release. You will need to have Portal 3.0.7 on your new box, and then upgrade "in place" to 3.0.8 there. I would advocate also doing a "cold backup" snapshot(backup all database data and log files) of your existing production database files as well.

Migration of j2ee app from Sun one App Server 6.0 to Sun one 6.5 Server

Currently I am involved in "J2EE" ear (webapps) migration from Sun One 6.0 to Sun One 6.5 Application Server on solaris os.Since the version and functionlity itself is major change in Sun One Server, my team had decided to build the source file and decided to port to Sun one 6.5 App Server.On doing build and compiling all source files, EJB compiler is failing on Sun one server 6.5.
Our findings on migration was as follows:
Sun one server 6.0 and its EJB compiler internally uses "kfcjdk11.jar" which is the base library to generate ejbs for "Enterprise Archive or ear file " of the application.Hence our application is suceessfully getting compiled and built on Sun one server 6.0 and running pretty fine.
However, "kfcjdk11.jar" still present in Sun One 6.5 server but its not been referred by SUN One 6.5 EJB compiler.So any successfully ear file deployed on 6.0 App Server, can be deployed on Sun One server 6.5. But to test applications/product's cycle, ear file deployed on SUN one 6.5 throws runtime errors and white screen is displayed to the user.
I had already included kfcjdk11.jar file into classpath, still its failing to compile the files.

web applciation uses some of platform specific API which are not portable to App server 7.0 like uda.framework etc.
So to streamline process we are migrating applcaition to 6.5 server and also planning to rewrite whole archietecture to port it to another app server.

Does the documentation provide an upgrade path?
Do you have existing data you need to preserve? If not you should be able to uninstall the old version and install the the one one. You should be able to use pkgrm to remove the old one IF it was a package based install.
The changes you want to do (changing the directory tree and adding a UID) should not require an upgrade.
It sounds like you need to reed the Sun/Oracle provided documentation.
If you are new to LDAP you should probably look for a general purpose book about LDAP. The Sun/Oracle LDAP server is pretty complicated. You probably want to understand LDAP in general before tackling a Oracle's product.

Hi,
It has been a while since I have had access to sun one studio 5. If I remember correctly, it was based on Netbeans 3.5.1. It turns out the Sun Java Studio Enterprise 7 release was based on Netbeans 3.6. Both of these Netbeans versions used mounted filesystems rather than the new project system. There is a migration guide from JSE 7 to JSE 8 available:

I think this migration guide will apply to your situation as well.

Can't print from (only) one networked computer

We have multiple desktops and laptops in our home network. We print to a wireless-network-connected HP Photosmart C7280 All-in-one printer. We are able to print from multiple computers to the printer but from one laptop we cannot. I ran the HP Print and Scan Doctor on the problem laptop; it finds the printer but when it tries to connect it says the printer is not connected. However on two other machines (both desktops as it happens) I can connect and print no problem. The problem laptop is running Windows 7. Any thoughts on why the one laptop won't connect to the networked printer? (That laptop is connecting to the wireless network per se with no problem; I downloaded an updated Print and Scan Doctor from HP Support for example.)

I understand your concerns using your Photosmart C7280. Please follow these steps to connect your printer on your Windows 7 computer:
1) Go into your Devices and Printers, right click on your printer, and select remove device
2) Next, Click on your Start Menu
3) Click on the HP folder
4) Click on the Photosmart C7280
5) Click on add a device, then add a new printer
6) Click on wireless and follow the instructions
(Make sure you turn off any Firewalls or Anti-Virus running on your computer.)
Please let me know at this point, if your printer is unable to connect wireless.
Once you have your printer connected, please follow this HP document on Printer Does Not Maintain Wireless Connection.
Please inform me your troubleshooting steps.

Connecting to MySQL from Sun One Studio

Hi,
I am trying to connect to the MySQL from the Sun One Studio 5. I followed these steps.
1. I downloaded the MySQL software and installed on my local computer, it was successful.
2. I got the drivers [b][b][b]mysql-connector-java-3.0.8-stable-bin.jar and placed it in the <stdudio5>/lib/ext/ directory.
3. And I successfully got through that one also, and in the database section it showed me the icon for connecting to mysql database. I gave the url, username, and password. It worked fine.
4. Then I created the connection pool, JDBC resource, and Persistence manager for my server instance. It was also successful.
5. When I built a cmp bean accessing the table in mySQL database, it is giving me these errors.
If you notice these error, it is asking for vendor type. But i don't have any option to choose the vendor type when i configured the database resources.
Can soem body suggest some other method and clear this error. I am struggling with this since a week.

The AS7 error suggests that you have not set up the server startup classpath to include the driver jar. The steps to do this are included in the article mentioned in Chris's reply, namely:

How to get certificate from sun one directory server

I have installed sun one directory server 5.2. Now in order to connect to the server through ldap protocol i need certificate on the client side.
How to get the certificate from the sun one directory server...??
( Earlier i tried the same procedure with active directory .and i got the certificate successfully ...as well as ldap authentication..but don't know what to do with the sun one..???)

You didn't make mention of setting up ssl on the server side, so search these boards for openssl. Some nice person uploaded an nice example of how do use openssl to do this.
To get the ssl certs for the solaris-client ssl authentication ( tls:simple ) to work you will need to use netscape to connect to the ssl port to get the right format. There are comments in that same doc on how to do that.

Migrate from Sun One Directory Server 5.1 to 5.2

I am trying to run the script provided with the 5.2 release MigrateInstance5; I have installed the server and have followed the instructions to a tee. I keep getting the error, Unable to start the Sun One Directory Server, when I run the script, I am at my wits end as this is supposed to be the easy step, I have to go from 4.2 to 5.2 next.

We upgraded our directory server version for several times.
If you want a secure method.
export your data.
Copy your schema file to the new install path, modify the information related to the old version and server (also the last line containing db number : keep only lines about the schema entry, it's ACI, objectclasse and attributes) and restart your directory.
Import your data. (you might use a script to clean your ldif file : empty attributes ...)
For the upgrade from 4.2 to 5.2 you will have to work a little bit more on the schema file as you have two of them instead of one. but the idea is the same.
edit your New schema file, keep only the following lines "
dn: cn=schema
objectClass: top
objectClass: ldapSubentry
objectClass: subschema
cn: schema
aci: ....
aci: ....
copy and paste your custom attributes and then objectclasses form the corresponding files.
On the import phase, check that you are not using objectclasses whiche were modified or suppressed.

Migrating from Sun One server 7.0 to Sun One Application server 8.2

To migrate my application i loaded some lib at Classpath Prefix: in JVM settings in the server. I loaded some libs that overrides some server's lib... When i put my lib there they will override the server's???

MBeans in Sun ONE AppServer 7.0 are not exposed externally. In the past, Sun has provided private APIs to ISVs allowing them to create monitoring and management products. As private APIs, changes may happen without notification.
We plan to expose MBeans in Sun ONE AppServer 8.

The fastest way to extract the data from Sun One Directory Server 5.2

I'm trying to figure out the best way to extract the whole contents of the Directory Tree of a Sun One DS 5.2. I assum that the best way is db2ldif but it takes about 17 min for about 1.5 GB size database, which seems quite a long time. Is there a faster way?

Actually the file I need should be readable - I need to parse it later on. But I think I just found the answer in the development kit. The utility is called dbscan and it works directly on the database files.

Oracle iPlanet Web Server 7.0.9 Patch on Solaris 8 as upgrade from Sun One

We have an application that we are moving from Solaris 8 to Solaris 10, but the process for doing this is slow due to the complex nature of the architecture (Perl, J2EE on JRun, WLS, etc). This means that the application will have some instances on Solaris 8 and some on Solaris 10 for the next few months. We wish to try to bring the non-OS infrastructure up to the same versions of code to assist in this.
Now, I noticed in the release notes that Solaris 8 is no longer supported in 7.0.9 but was in 7.0.8. Is there anything inherent in this or was it just that no testing was done? I know that the official position of the "web tier" is that Solaris 8 is now "deprecated". I ask because it tells me if I can live with the risk of going to 7.0.9 on all environments - as the application code is more aware of this than its core OS - or whether I need to leave 7.0.8 on Solaris 8 and do 7.0.9 on Solaris 10. I'm not asking for support, but a question on whether there is a known issue or not.

Thank you. I'll keep the Solaris 8 boxes on v7.0.8 then.
My main worry was not the code itself but the changes in installation, packaging, branding changes, default directories (e.g. /opt/oracle rather than /opt/sun), etc...... . If I am going to kill off Solaris 8 in a few months it isn't a big problem.

Remove DPS from Sun One Console

I am in the process of retiring a few old directory servers that are still on Windows 2000 (I know!!). There are two directories and one proxy server. The two directories I'm not having issues with, but it looks like the DSP has not been functional for quite some time. All I want to do is remove the DSP and the other servers from the consoles of the servers that will be remaining. However, when I try to remove the DSP the "remove server" option is grayed out. I assume I either need to #1 figure out a way around this and remove it from the console some other way or #2 try to get the DSP running.
Question I have is which of these two options is the best one? Also, does the DSP and other servers need to be even removed from the consoles of the servers that will remain? Or will removing them from the replication and uninstalling the software be enough?
