Print hdv sequence to dvcam tape

I've never tried it, but can you print a hdv sequnce to a dvcam tape?
I've had a look at the forum and a few people mention using compressor, but I have fce 4 which hasn't got compressor.
Does anyone have any experince doing this in fce 4?
Thanks.

Do you have a DVCAM camera or deck? Do not do this with copy and paste. Take your edited HD sequence and place it inside a DV anamorphic sequence to scale it properly and correct the pixel aspect ratio. Before you do that make the the HD sequence is fully rendered and mixed down. Then once inside the DV anamorphic sequence, render and mix down that, then print to video.

  • Can Print to Video HDV sequence

Hello, I am trying to export an HDV sequence to a miniDV tape for broadcast. I am using a Sony GV-HD700 tape deck. I am using Print to Video and it just wont work. Any help would be appreciated, thanks!

I am having this same problem, and need help urgently. Does anyone know how to resolve this? I can control the deck through FCP and the FireWire cable, and can even initiate automatic recording from FCP, but once it starts playing the content the deck freezes and does not actually record anything.

  • Print to video / HDV sequence

I am about to export a hdv sequence to my z1.
I have to make a master tape for broadcasting.
I normally export my commercial hdv work to mpeg2 and make a dvd....
To make a master tape for tv broadcast I need to make a dv camtape.
How do I create a dv cam master with the right 16;9 aspect ratio and the leat quality loss?
I understood that I can not use edit to tape. So print to video is my only option....
I thought of first rendering the hdv sequence to an appropriate format.
Which format should I choose. Is pro res an option?
    Any expert out there.
    Advice hightly appreciated.
    thnx

I think what you should do is put the HDV sequence in a DV sequence, then after rendering just lay it out to tape. You could also send it to compressor for the tranfer, but don't think there's much difference if any, in quality. It should end up letterboxed.

  • Export HD 720p to DVCAM tape (print to tape) 16:9 not letterboxed

    hi -
i'm trying to export an HD 720p24.00 project to DVCAM tape for projection at a film festival. i need to make sure the 16:9 aspect ratio is squished, not letterboxed, onto the DVCAM tape. what is the best way to go about doing all this? i am exporting to a DSR-11 DVCAM deck.
    thanks in advance.

    follow up:
actually, if the DV sequence is 24.00 fps, it won't play in an external monitor through my deck, nor will it print to video.
so now i'm trying to put the HD 720p sequence into a DV 23.98 sequence and render and we'll see if that works better.

  • Can you print HDV to SD tape?

    Hi,
I was wondering if it was possible to print HDV to SD tape once I'm finished with my HD edit. If so, how would I go about doing it?
    Thanks!

Paste your HDV Timeline into a DV-NTSC Anamorphic Sequence. Render it.
Connect your deck via FireWire and from the View Menu > Video Playback, select the deck.
Choose *Print to Video* from the File menu.
Further details can be found in the manual, although I found the on-screen dialog pretty much self explanatory, the first time round.

  • In an HDV sequence can I "scrub" the timeline and record it via FW to tape?

In an HDV sequence can I "scrub" the timeline and record it via FW to tape?
In standard definition I used to be able to do this via Firewire to my mini-dv deck. But now I am working with the Canon Vixia30, an HDV camera. I'd like to be able to scrub the time line back and forth at varying speeds and record this scrubbing live (rather than doing it with Motion software.) Is there anyway to "record" this action, either onto tape or digitally, while maintaining the HD resolution?
If possible I'd like to figure out how to do this without buying extra equipment. I understand I could get a Matrox MO2 Mini box ($450.) to output the live HD signal, but then how to record the HD signal from the Matrox box? (my camera only has HDMI out, not in.)
    Thank you for your input.

And if you capture your footage as ProRes (as I see discussed in another thread), you cannot output to HDV via firewire. It would be pointless. To go from a lossy format to ProRes to edit...then convert back to HDV. Typically people who shoot HDv never master back to HDV, as it isn't a mastering format.
And yes, the MAX is totally worth it. Compression times faster than RT (meaning less time to compress than the timeline is long...I did 90 min timeline in 75 min yesterday). Worth it? Depends how much your time is worth. TO me, I'd like to have the compression done in 75 minutes opposed to 3-4 hours.

  • Is there a way to export an HDV project out to tape (FX1) after Export?

I know I can import HDV footage from the FX1 into FCP5, perform edits and then "Print to Tape" (FX1), but is there a particular format I need to export to, to be able to created a file for import into a new Project for "Print to Tape"?
In other words how do I export an edited HDV File back to tape frm within FCP5?

I import footage from 2 diff tapes (Cam Angles) of a Cooking show taping.
I edited the clips together and added titling
I then exported the Project out (Current Settings) to a single file
I open that file in After Effects to add Motion Graphics
I export that back out in the HDV format
Now I want to export that file to tape by importing into FCP5 HDV project and doing a "Print to Tape" command. But when I do this I get serious frame drop outs.
I hope that made my situation a little clearer.

  • How to export a clip to a DVCam tape via a recorder

I am unable to transfer a clip to a DVCam tape because there no such alternative in the menu share of FCP X. Can some one advise on how to proceed. The right question is HOW TO PRINT TO VIDEO IN FCP X ?

    FCPX doesn't do this.
You will need a third party hardware and software.
    Here's an example.
    Good luck.

  • How to export to DVCAM tape with timecode from Premiere CS 6?

I am having a lot of trouble with this. I need to give a dvcam tape with proper timecode to a television station for a Show I edit. I am editing for this station for last 7 years. Before they accepeted betacam, but now they changed to DVCAM. I have Premiere Pro 6 (or CC) and SONY HVR M15U deck. I connected it via firewire, then realized firewire can't export timecode. Now I am in a pickle.
    Possible solutions (may be):
    - Buy a card, send other signal like SDI to the deck?
    - Buy new deck?
Please help. I able to print to tape via firewire, but how can I print the timecode?
    Thanks
    Raman

    realized firewire can't export timecode.
    Sure it can.

  • Viewing HDV sequence / media on Broadcast Monitor?

Is it / or is it not possible to view a HDV sequence or media on Broadcast Monitor via a Firewire Device such as a HDV camcorder?
If so great, if not, what are my options and how can I achieve this?
    VV URGENT
    Thanks in advance.

I had the opportunity to play around with a Sony HDV camera and FCP yesterday. I got the HDV camera's LCD to display media playing on the Timeline and in the Viewer [after changing prefs in Audio & Video Settings > Playback Output > DV-PAL]. From there I did get the audio signal to loop from the camera through to the broadcast monitor, but unfortunately not the video signal [as you both have stated].
So basically what you are both saying / and what I seem to have confirmed, is that I can not check my work on a broadcast monitor when using HDV without an I/O card?
For those of us without an I/O card, we still have fields, saturation restrictions, flickering graphics etc etc to check that will not show up on a Digital Cinema Desktop Preview. I just don't understand why we can not preview this prosumer [HDV] format on a broadcast monitor without purchasing an I/O card??
It would be greatly appreciated if you guys could please respond / correct me if I am wrong.
    Thanks again for your time.

  • Leopard Terminal.app no longer supports ANSI print escape sequences?!!

I print my email using pine's "attached-to-ansi" option, which used to work great in Tiger with Terminal.app. It no longer works in Leopard. It also breaks things like the "ansiprt" Unix command.
This is a start/stop escape sequence that diverts text between the start/stop sequences to the printer. See http://www.termsys.demon.co.uk/vtansi.htm as a reference.
Is there some Terminal.app setting I need to use to enable this? Some specific terminal type perhaps?
Suggesting that I use enscript or other techniques don't work, as I use the Terminal to ssh into my mail server, then run pine on the mail server.
Anyway, any idea how to get this very desirable feature back?
    Thanks,
    -John

    HI,
I tried to set "Escape non-ASCII input" without any change. I didn't see an option to change "Escape non-ASCII output". I tried a few other things without success either using a different terminal type and so forth. I looked in the .term file and didn't see anything text related to ANSI or ASCII or escape.
If I change a Terminal preference do I need to quit and restart Terminal to test the change, or does the change take place as soon as I change it in the menu? I tried quitting and restarting after checking "Escape non-ASCII input" and when I restart the box was unchecked. I couldn't find a "save preferences option either.
In Tiger, my terminal type was xterm-color- same in Leopard. I had checked off "Escape non-ASCII characters" under Tiger.
Here's exactly what I do, *which used to work in Leopard*.
I run Terminal.app on my MacBook, and ssh to a mail server. On the mail server, I run the pine command to read my mail. Pine has an option to print email using ASCII escape sequences. Terminal.app sees these escape sequences and diverts the text to the default printer on my MacBook.
Under Leopard, the Terminal doesn't catch the ANSI escape code, and just spews the text to the terminal window. Nothing has changed on the mail server side. I;m using the sane ssh command.
Enscript won't work, as the printer connected to the mail server is often as not in a different state than my MacBook.
Not all terminal emulators support the ANSI print escape sequences. Terminal didn't before Tiger, if I remember correctly. I used to use a very nice terminal emulator called Data Comet which did it.
ANSI printing used to be a fairly common way to print to a local printer connected to via a parallel cable. Besides pine, the Unix command ansiprt http://kb.iu.edu/data/abye.html could be used to print remote files on the local printer. Some terminal emulator programs used the idea to hook the ANSI escape sequence to the printing system, extending the functionality to use any printer accessible by the local system.
Thanks again for all your help. I hope I've clarified what I'm trying to do.

  • HDV Sequence gets squashed when exporting to quicktime

    hi,can anyone help here . .
my current edit has HDV and DV on it and I am wondeirng of anyone has any tips when editing with these formats in the sequence.
    I have two questions.
    1. the dv footage looks half the size in the canvas as the hdv footage.
I have made it bigger by double clipping on each clip and using the scale parameter under motion tab to increase it to 200% and that filled out the window.
Will that effect output quality? is there another way to do it? Am I losing quality here? Is there a way round this . .
    2. When i export my project as is - after rendering to quicktime - and import it into iDVD (i dont know how to use studio) the programme looks all squashed. (e.g a plant pot looks longer and thinner than it does originally)
Actually even on the quicktime movie after export it looks squashed
    my HDV sequence settings are
    Framesize 1440x1080 aspect ratio HD(1440x1080) (16:9)
    compressor HDV 1080i50
the anamorphic box is not ticked, i tried making a dvd with it ticked but it still looked squashed when i compare a frozen image on the DVD with a frozen image in my sequence.
how to I get mt QT movie or reference file to look like it does on the timeline and not squashed as it is loooking now?
    thanks in advance

You would be better (assuming a DVD is the only end use for this project) to scale to the lowest common denominator in this case DV.
Do your edit on a DV/NTSC/PAL timeline as appropriate and recapture the HDV material using the cameras built in HDV to DV conversion then you are working completely within a DV timeline scaled at 100% no need to blow footage up.
I am assuming the footage is a fairly equal mix of HDV DV if its just a couple of DV clips then you could go with it but obviously scaling footage up to HDV then down to SD for DVD will not produce the sharpest image.

  • HDV Sequence Option Missing

I recently reformatted my computer and re-installed Adobe Premiere CS5. When starting a new project, I use to have the HDV sequence option but when I reinstalled, I noticed that it was missing, along with a few other options. I tried re-installing Premiere again with no luck.
Below is a screen cap of all the options I have-- it's much shorter than what I had before I formatted. How can I get the HDV projection options back?? Please help. Thank you!!

Thanks for the replies. I uninstalled and reinstalled and reactivated and it worked!
I appreciate your help. Problem solved!

  • True 24fps Film Project out to DVCam Tape - Proper Settings?

I have a TRUE 24fps 1080x1920 Uncompressed Quicktime of my film.  I'm  going to be using Premiere Pro CS5 connected via Firewire to a Sony  HVR-Z1U Camcorder, which is capable of DVCAM recording and playback.  I  need to record the film to DVCAM tape for a film festival....and I was wondering 2 things:
    1.  What framerate is needed for DVCam?  I'm guessing I will need to convert the film to 23.976 before outputing it to tape....
    2.  If I need to convert to a 23.976 file beforehand....what is the best  quality file for output to DVCam?  The best way I know of currently to  convert my true 24p footage to 23.976 is by going into After Effects and  converting to MPEG2...setting the M-Frame to 3 and the N-Frame to 12 so  I avoid conversion flicker problems....but I know MPEG2 will probably  be pretty lossy compared to other file formats that DVCam tapes can  handle.
Any help would be much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Doron Kipper

DV and DVCAM are effectively the same, 720 x 480 NTSC or 720 x 576 PAL and the framerate is 60i or 50i. Assuming NTSC you need to rewrap to 60i using MS DV AVI.
