Print Image Action

OK so this would be really convenient if I could get the Scale to Fit option to actually work. Say I have an 10x15-inch document, and I want to print it on a letter sized paper, which we print all our proofs on. Our document sizes vary greatly. When I run them through this action they simply crop off what doesn't fit from the original size. Seems like it should have the option to choose output size as in a print dialog box based off the printers' driver. Any suggestions to remedy this would be greatly appreciated.

I don't believe that you can do that with an action in Acrobat.
In Acrobat X Pro, when I include the Print command in an Action with the Action Wizard, and I attempt to set an option, it gives me a message that the options must be set at the time of execution.
In other programs like Adobe InDesign, you could create Print Presets that would allow you set such options, but apparently not Acrobat. (Unless someone can find a way to do it in JavaScript.)

"Print Images" action fails

I use an automator workflow that uses the "Print Images" action and it works great on my Tiger machines. However, it does nothing with 10.5. Automator gives the following error: The action "Print Images" encountered an error. Check the action's properties and try running the workflow again. Needless to say, I've checked all properties and it fails.
Does this action work with Leopard? The same workflow works fine with Tiger.

In addition to not having spaces I found punctuation to be a problem too.
"Brother HL-2240D series" didn't work
"Brother_HL-2240D" didn't work either, but
"BrotherHL2240D" did.
If just changing the name doesn't work, try adding the printer again with the new name.

'Print Image' action - unexpected repeating...

Why hello.
I've attached an automator script to a folder action that does a couple things:
1. Get Specified Finder Items {specified folder}
2. Get Folder contents
3. Rotate Images
4. Crop Images
5. Print Images {printer specified}
6. Move Finder Images to Trash
It's for a ID-Photo printing project... and I'm using Canon's Remote Shooting capability. Basicly - once the photo is snapped - it empties into {specified folder} triggering the automator script. PROBLEM IS - that the blasted thing is queuing up the same altered photo 1,2,3 or even 4 times - seemingly randomly. Any idea why this would happen?
(Note: if I were to simply drag an image into the specified folder - the script only prints once.)

Jpeg format only supports 8bit color. Even if 16bit color was supported most OS device drivers only do 8bit color and printers are 8bit color devices. With the image Processor you should be able to specify jpeg quality set it to 10. That will be much smaller file size then quality 12 and you will see no difference in print quality between quality 10 and 12. You should also make sure convert to sRGB is checked. Print Labs expect images in sRGB. Do not resize your images however make sure your source files print dpi resolution is set to print the size image you want.
If you want to automate the print resolution you can download my crafting actions package. I contains a Plug-in script I wrote that you can use in actions to set the images DPI to have the images longest side print the size you record in the action.

This workflow runs great on 10.5.2 but on all the machines upgraded to 10.5.3 it fails on the Print Images script. Providing no description as to why.
Any ideas of how to do this another way which might bypass the bug?
The point is that an image is downloaded to a local folder from our webserver then printed to fit the page.

You made need to check your printer drivers. Sometimes GIMP drivers can cause more problems than needed

I have converted images from xwd to bmp by using JAI. now I want to print them.
How can I print PNG and BMP Files? How can I read images in different formats and make them print.

JAI follows the Java 2D printing model. All you need to do is to read your PNG, BMP images as RenderedImage, Renderable, or BufferedImage objects. To print an image, draw the image object on the printer's graphics context using one of drawImage(), drawRenderedImage(), and drawRenderableImage() methods of the Graphics2D class.
I have some sample code at http://www.geocities.com/larryhr/samplecode/samplecode.html. See the Printing section. JAIImagePrint.java should give you some indication as to how to print images read by the JAI codec.

LaserJet Pro 200 color MFP M276nw prints image shifted 1/2" from top of page.

When printing any report, diagnostic or form from the machine system I get printed image shift approx. 1/2" from the top.
Is there any adjustment that can be made to the MFP to center image?

I understand that when printing documents or a printer hardware self test, it shifts 1/2" from the top of the page. I can help you with this.
Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet. (don't use a power hub or a surge protector) This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
It sounds like the paper isn't feeding properly. Since you are having this issue with the hardware tests and printing from the computer. If it was just the computer, I would check the paper type selected in the print driver, to make sure it isn't set on the proper paper type and not the default unspecified paper.
Try another type of paper to see if you get the same results.
I have provided a document with some steps to try to see if that will resolve the issue.

How to get Safari printing images in proper resolution?

I have problems printing high resolution images from a web page.
Example: When printing a 300 dpi image that measures 5 x 6 inches Safari rescales this image to a resolution of about 282 dpi which results in a slightly larger image. The web page contains CSS definitions with the correct image size. It is suspicious that the printed images always seem to be rescaled by 6.348%. I tried different CSS definitions and page structures with the same result.
When the CSS definition for the image size is increased by 6.348% the resolution and image size fits the original values and dimensions.
What about this magical 6.348%?
The problem is verified on 10.4.11 and 10.5 with Safari 3.0.1 on different machines with all kind of images in every resolution you can think of, with different printer drivers (but I do not think this is relevant) - all images are rescaled by this magic factor. I tried all kind of printer settings, took a look at the Library plists related to printing ... Please help me.
It is weird that Safari offers ICC support for color proof matches but is not able to print an image with its correct resolution/dimensions. Firefox for example does not touch the image resolution, why the heck Safari does?

Website builders are using maximum 75 DPI images. These are to small i quality for other use when you are looking for quality images. The reason for using images in small size like 75 DPI is to prevent that the website is getting to big in size, an for using them on the internet they are good enough for best viewing.
QuickTimeKirk is right to get better images from a website. If the developer is NOT offering a downloadble better quality you have to do it with the on they offer.

Print image shifted?

I own an HP Photosmart A524 photo printer. Before you tell me that HP has no info on this printer on their website, let me explain that I bought it as a kit (called HP Photosmart Compact Photo Studio) with a camera (HP Photosmart M447) from WalMart. HP has no info on this printer on their website that I could find, but there are similar models like the A525.
The problem I am having is that when I print via USB, the image is shifted. Printing via uploading a pic to the SD card and using the onboard card reader prints perfectly fine, but uploading the image, putting the card in the printer, and finding each image (which is buried deep among other pictures from my camera) is a hassle. When I print from the picture, instead of printing correctly the image is shifted to the left ~1cm and down ~1cm (diagonally, sometimes it's the opposite if I print from Picasa instead of Windows Photo Viewer) and never correctly; a "half" margin is always present, half because it is always on 2 sides. I downloaded the Windows 7 fix on HP's website for the A525, which didn't correct the problem, and I also tried installing the full installation avalible for Vista for that printer. The full installation was incompatible, and when I ran it compatible with Vista SP1 and with elevated admin rights, it said I needed to run as admin, even though I already was.
Does anyone have any ideas? I really want to get this fixed, especially since I have this printer networked and want to be able to print photos from another computer without walking upstairs, getting the SD card, transfering photos, etc. The SD card method works, but. . . you know, it shouldn't be doing this.

I tried your solution by switching from the Photo Printing-Borderless setting to Photo Printing-with white borders. A suprising changed occured; though the image was a very little bit distorted, sort of rotated, the print image was not shifted. This boosted my previous theory that distortion happened after the image was sent to que and before the printer recieved it, indicating a driver issue. That's where I think the issue is.

Strange behavior printing image

I'm printing an jpg of a piece of sculpture, and if I look at the image in Photoshop all of the highlights are completely blown out. However, when I place the image into InDesign, the highlights have detail, and the image becomes much too dark overall (actually it matches the jpg's icon view in the Finder). And when I print the file, the image has the same dark tones as the InDesign preview (doesn't matter whether I use typical or high quality display).
But if I go into Photoshop and adjust the curves just slightly, the InDesign screen and printed image look just like the original blown-out Photoshop view.
There aren't any adjustment layers in the image.
Any ideas?

Yeah, that might be important. Do you still have the original unadulterated version of that file? Does Bridge say it has an embedded profile?

MAC OS 10.5.7 and Samsung CLP-610ND color laser printer, images very dark

Just picked up this printer 3 days ago, set up fine prints word files fine. Any images print very dark. MY main use is printing a pdf newsletter but the print image is so dark it is useless. I have tried print as image. I have also tried a plain jpg from camera and that was also very dark. Talked to Samsung and they said it was my computer and I should return it. Not what I want to do.
Also I took my pdf file and tried ot on other laser printers that had a Secure digital file reader and the colors were correct some with my HO color inkjet.
So printing through adobe or preview images are too dark.
Any thoughts?

Went back to HP.com and this time was able to see and download latest driver and firmware for HP LaserJet P3005dn Installation of new firmware was done thru the HP Printer Utility application on my iMac OS 10.7.5
I was able to choose my printer and then upload the firmware file from the iMac to the printer. This has completely solved the problem!

Will I always get color discrepancies when lab printing images softproofed on a 75% on AdobeRGB monitor?

I am struggling to get printed output from a professional printing service to match what I see when I softproof on my monitor. The printed image always looks considerably more green and warm, although whites are ok. Blue skies tend to get warm greenish. The printed image often looks like a warm instagram filter had been applied.
I have two (different generation) Dell U2412M monitors (Dell U2412M = Standard gamut = 71% NTSC, 74.3% Adobe RGB, 95.8% sRGB).
These are the steps I have taken to try to achieve color consistency between monitor and print:
I have calibrated and profiled with a Spyder 3 Express using BasICColor Display 5 software, previously also used the Datacolor software that came with the calibrator. After this, what I see on my monitor "looks normal" (skin tones, landscapes etc.)
I shoot RAW with a Sony NEX6, develop in Lightroom 4 using ProPhoto 16 bit color space.
I softproof in Lightroom using an ICC file provided by the printing service.
I use Lightroom to print to file tagging it with AdobeRGB profile. Either as TIFF or as JPG 100%.
I print with the direction to the printer to "not make any auto corrections to my file".
I have Windows 7 64bit.
I thought this would mean that I would get - probably not perfect - but at least a very strong match between softproof and printed image. But I do not.
Are these rather strong color discrepancies to be expected given my hardware?
Is my Spyder broken (it's out of warranty)?
Or is my workflow erroneous?

Could be the calibration targets (how you asked to celibate white point etc). Could be the output. Could be the ICC Profile. Could be your file. You have to decide which is which.

Soft proof and see if any green or odd color cast appear. If so, probably the profile but use it and have a print made. The output should look good (neutral in neutrals, reds that don't appear yellowish etc).
Generally speaking, if you send Adobe RGB (1998) and the other side assumes it is sRGB, you will end up with desaturated colors. This isn't the fault of Adobe RGB but rather assuming that data is sRGB which it isn't.

What could possibly be causing this?

Printing image to size of my painting

I am using cs5. I am making a painting with a 6" head. I would like to print a 6" head so I can get the proportions right. I tape the print to the painting and use it for measurements and reference. I don't know anything about pixels, except I want the highest pixel depth I can get. currently pixel = 831 w x 960 h. right now I'm just playing with the w and h in inches, and printing images til I get it right. Is there a way I can tell cs5 to print a head to my painting proportions? I very much appreciate your input. Thanks in advance

That's a very small image so your result will be very pixilated I'm guessing....anyway, knee jerk, here are two ideas.....
1.
Show the ruler at the top amke sure it show inches - this will tell you the size, in inches, of your beginning piece
Go into IMAGE> IMAGE SIZE and make sure those dimensions are in inches and increase the size, either height or width depending upon which is the 6 inches you want
See if this will give you what you want.
Without seeing if there is anything around the image this is shooting in the dark...
2.
Create a new layer
Copy your working photo onto a new layer.
Make sure you utilize GUIDES. You can drag them to the left or top most position of what you are measuring, then drag a second one to the other position. You'll have to manually calculate the size you have and then adjust image size from there or set the second guide at he 6 inch point.
With the picture layer selected increase the picture to meet the guides.
You should be good to print at this point.
