You'll have to give more information. What program. What else was running. How much RAM and how much free space on your hard drive.

I am having issues with installing a Ricoh MP C2500 printer on Lion in my MBPro Ci7  Where is appletalk or the replacement?
My it guy has set all the Ricoh (The only brand of printers we use.) to enable Appletalk.  I am unable to see how to enable appletalk or an equivalent on Lion and have spent 3 hours now searching for it.  If I connect to the printer via TCP/IP it prints random characters.  I have a Ricoh working for another moddle but I am needing to use this machine.  HELP!!!!!

AppleTalk has been gone eons ago. Connect via USB and see what happens. If you are networking the printer then advise on your connection set up.

  • Printing from Lion to Xp shared printer

Under Snow Leopard, I could easily print to printers shared by computers running Windows. This is on my simple home LAN with a Windows workgroup.
After upgrading to Lion, this capability seems lost...or changed...or broken.
I have done a lot of googling, and lots of folks seem to have this problem, but I have found no consistent solution.
I have tried removing printer entires from Key Chain, removing and reinstalling the printer (on both the Mac side and the Windows side), removing special characters from my Windows password, reseting the Mac printing system, and combinations of these approaches and nothing works.
Anyone have anything else to suggest? Any "guaranteed" solutions?
I see a couple failure modes...usually Lion reprots the print job has been sent, but nothing actually gets printed, and Lion never reports the job completed. Other times Lion shows the pinter as "paused".
    Thanks,
    Mark

Rather than use SMB to connect from Lion to the Windows XP printer share, a better method is to enable Print Services for UNIX on Windows XP and then use LPD on the Mac to print via the Windows share.
To install Print Services for UNIX on Windows XP:
Log on to the Windows server with an administrative-level account.
Start the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel.
    Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
Click Other Network File and Print Services, and then click Details.
Click to select the Print Services for UNIX check box, and then click OK.
Follow the instructions on the screen to finish the installation
If you haven't done so already, share the printer on Windows XP and make the name one word - no spaces or special characters
With the print services enabled you can then create the printer queue on Lion.
Open Print & Scan and click + to add a printer
Select the IP icon and set the protocol to Line Printer Daemon - LPD
For the Address, enter the IP address of the Windows XP computer
For the Queue name, enter the share name set for the printer in Windows XP
Name and Location are free text so you can set this to something meaningful
For the Print Using menu, select the supporting printer driver. Note that like connections via SMB, the vendors driver for Lion in some cases cannot be used and an alternate like those offered by the Gutenprint suite must be used.
Click the OK button to complete the queue creation.
Now you are ready to test the new print queue.

  • Printing in Lion?

When printing in Lion from either Aperture or Photoshop (CS3) black and white images all have a purple hue. Is there a setting that's changed?

I apologize to the Apple community for posting this question. I obviously "jumped the gun" on this one as it was clearly just a case of cleaning the heads and updating several ink cartridges that were a little dryed up. It was a ******* question.

  • Canon MF8050cn won't print with Lion ?

    Hi anyone,
I'm pulling my hair trying to get this new printer working with my Mother's new iMac and have failed for the past 6-weeks!
I have followed all sorts of suggestions found here and elsewhere - and none of which have worked!
The printer is connected directly to the USB port and I'm simply trying to add it using the Canon UFR II LT v2.3 driver but it never communicates with printer.
Seems like there is a fundamental incompatibilty between this printer and Lion?
any suggestions, I haven't resorted to a firmware update yet, but maybe I should be looking at this too?
This has been a horrible time wasting experience for both her and me.

One of the problems I have encountered with the UFR2 driver is that it relies heavily on a background service and if this fails to run it will cause printer issues. So the first thing to check is that this "UFR II Backgrounder" service is running on the iMac. Open Activity Monitor and scroll down the list. Do you see this service?
Also, I cannot tell from your post if you have managed to add the printer and that the issue is that it won't print, or you have not been able to add the printer. If you have been able to add the printer but cannot print, then open System Information and select the Printers entry listed under Hardware. In the top right pane will be the installed printers and if you select the MF8050, the bottom right pane will show information about the print queue. Can you copy this information and post it back here please.

  • How do you make Canon LBP7200cdn printer on Lion work!

    Hi
    I just bought this today.
Can not get it to print, I have managed, apparently, to install the software, and I am using the newer version that is supposed to address problems that were experienced under Lion.  ( I am running 10.7.4)
It is asking for an IP address for the printer,  which I do not know how to find.  On my old epson C1100N, I could still see the printer even if I did not know the IP address.
I have tried to use it via USB, and that does not work, though it appears to be installed correctly.
40 minutes on the phone with Canon lead no where.
I know that all my connections are good, I am using the ethernet cable that the old machine was connected to.
I have even installed it on a Windows machine, and that won't work either.
Has anyone managed to get this printer to print with Lion 10.7.4 via the Network option?
    Any help appreciated.
    Thanks
    Craig

    Hi
    Thanks for your reply.
The printer not working on the Windows machine, could very well just be me...I am not a windows guy and would like nothing more than to throw that computer out the window.
I have spent 40 mintues on the phone, and will hopefully get a call back tomorrow from tier 2 support as it has been escalated.
I have read through the user guide and it appears that I need to assign an IP address and tell the my computer the printers MAC address via Terminal.  If this is true- I am astonished at the level of ridiculousness.  I thought I was onto something with that but when I went to find the printers MAC address - surprise!  I was not where it is indicated to be in the user manual.
If you have any ideas based on the assumption that the printer is functional but just requires a Jedi level of programming skill - I would appreciate hearing them.
Regretting my decision to change from Epson, you know, where you install the software and 2 seconds later are making prints...
    Cheers
    Craig

  • Epson 3880 no longer prints under Lion

My Epson 3880 printer was working well under Snow Leopard but after updating to Lion on my MacBook Pro a few months ago I haven't yet been able to get the printing to work. The printer is connected directly via USB. If I unplug the printer from my MacBook Pro and plug it into my MacPro then it works normally. I have tried deleting the printer and reloading it. Software Update is all up to date. 10.7.3. I didn't get any help whatsoever from Epson.
I have tried printing from a variety of applications (FileMaker Pro, TextEdit, Adobe Reader, Photoshop etc.) but always the same problem. When I try to print, things seem to go normally until I press "print". That is, the printer dialogue box comes up normally and I can select the printer, paper size, options, etc. However, the print dialogue box looks different, simpler with less options. I can't tell if this is normal under Lion or if it indicates something wrong with the printer driver.
The printer shows up as "connected". After I press "print" the progress box that usually appears just flashes on very briefly and disappears. Normally this box shows for at least a few seconds. Then, when nothing happens, I check the printer monitor icon in the dock. There is a red number showing a new page is ready to print. But nothing happens. On the printer monitor box it shows "Printer Ready" but down in the jobs list it shows the name of the document waiting to be printed and under "status" is says "error". If I click "Resume" the status changes to "printing" then I get a couple of very brief messages - too fast to read, and then they disappear and status returns to "error".
If I click "job info" I get a bunch of stuff but this message looks like the important one "/Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter/Filter/pdftopdf.app/Contents/MacOS/pdfto pdf failed".
I can connect to the Epson 3880 when it is wired to the MacPro as a network printer and I can print but I can't seem to get the same printer options selections. I can get the basic ones but not the important ones for this printer - just generic ones.
Does anobody have any suggestions for me to try. I have read through a number of other printer related issues with Lion but most are with network printing or wireless printing.

Well, I deleted the printer and the Epson printer files and restarted. Then I plugged in the Epson 3880 printer and added it in the print & scan box. It said I neededd software to sue this printer so I went to Software Update but no Epson software appeared on the list. I installed the latest driver from Epson.
You did not state but after you installed the latest driver from Epson, did you go back to Print & Scan and delete all instance of the Epson printer and the add the printer. The Epson 3880 is "on", yes?
On a new MB Pro with OS 10.7.4, the latest Epson SPro 3880 driver and the printer on... In Print & Scan, I can click and hold down the + button and the pop down menu shows an option to select the nearby printer EpsonStylusPro3880-1EAD55 to add. If I choose Add other Printer or Scanner, the Add Printer window opens and the Default tab lists EpsonStylusPro3880-1EAD55 as Bonjour and EpsonStylusPro3880-1EAD55 (IP) as EPSON TCPIP. The latter is because I set the printer with a static IP address. I print to the Epson 3880 via WiFi.
Anyway, if you try adding the printer and "Print Using" shows Generic PostScript Printer, click on that itself and choose "Select Printer Software..." from the drop down menu. A Printer Software window will open. Find the Epson 3880 in that list. If it is not there, go back and choose "Other". On my computer the path to the Epson 3880 PPD is: HD/Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/EPSON Spson Stylus Pro 3880.gz
When I try to print, I select the printer from the printer list and a printer dialogue box comes up, but not the normal Epson one. It was a simplified generic printer dialogue box lacking the usual advanced Espon printer features, such as seeing if photo black or matte black ink is selected. So it still doesn't work. Any other ideas?
Either that's the window for Generic PostScript or if it is for the Epson printer, at the bottom there is a button "Show Details" (to the right of the PDF button). If the details show, that button will show as "Hide Details."
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I install a samsung clp-315 printer under Lion?

I have upgraded to Lion. This morning I uninstalled my Samsung CLP-315 printer (I was trouble shooting & thought it would be easy to re-install). When I try to re- install via the system preferences my computer recognises the printer is there and tries to get the software to drive it from
When I click Add I get this message:
I have also tried downloading the driver from Samsung's  Web site but I still can't re-install the printer.
Would appreciate comments/help to get it going again.
    Thanks

I had this problem with my Samsung CLX3185, For some other reason I had to restart. After that restart when I got around to it again, I could install it. Hope it helps. Also, Samsung printer software update is available via software update. Suggest run the SW update, restart and try again.

  • Indesign CS3 crashes when I try to print in Lion

I installed Lion this morning and I'm unable to print from InDesign and Illustrator CS3. Both applications crash before the print dialogue opens. I really need to solve this problem. Everything I do as a designer goes through  InDesign.

Most of our customers use CS3...Adobe stopped supporting CS3 when they released CS5. CS3 worked fine on my non i7 iMac, when I migrated to the i7 iMac it stopped working. Called Adobe and over 2-3 weeks time they told me it wouldn't work! Re-installed from original cd works fine. Thanks for posting this tho, now I know to not upgrade to OS X 10.7!

  • Printing with Lion and Adobe Reader 9.4.5

Today, after installing Lion Wed, I needed to print a pdf document with mixed landscape and portrait pages.
With AR 9.4.5 all the landscape pages were rendered in portrait, occupying about half of each sheet.
With Preview, all pages printed as they should.
A colleague printed the same file with Snow Leopard and AR 9.4.5: It printed as it should.
Either AR 9.4.5 is not fully compatible or (more likely) there is some obscure setting I need to change.
    Any thoughts?

Thanks.  I will give it a try!

  • HT4507 How do I connect my Canon ImageClass 4000 BW printer on Lion?

    Hello every one,
I have a Canon ImageClass 4000 printer which was working fine with my OS 10.6, but since I installed Lion, I can not print. I would really appreciate if you could help me with this. Thanking you in advance.

Sorry for my confusing reply. I had never heard of the imageCLASS 4000 so that's why I thought it was an MF4000 series. Seems like it was only sold in the USA and quite a number of years ago.
So I checked the Canon USA web site and saw the hqx package you refer to containing the old Adobe PS driver for OS8. I also saw an old version of a PCL and PS driver for Windows.
So working on the assumption that the device does support Postscript you should be able to create a printer queue using the Generic PS driver included with Lion. If this doesn't print or simply prints rubbish then change the printer queue via Options & Supplies > Driver to use the Generic PCL Laser driver.

  • Driver for Dell 5110cn printer on Lion

I'm looking for a printer driver that will install and function on a Lion 10.7.3 system. The printer is a Dell 5110cn color laser printer that was end-of-lifed in 2008, and Dell is "slow" to support printers that aren't current. The Dell installer that is available will not run without Rosetta. (Maybe the drivers work OK under Lion, but how do you install them without using the Installer?)
Dell Support suggested I try Xerox drivers for their sister model, since Xerox has updated their drivers for Lion. I have installed those drivers, but find that duplexing and paper feed from the multipurpose tray are not supported. I've tried the Phaser 6300DN and the 6360DN drivers installed by the Xerox installer:  neither seems to support duplexing or the multipurpose tray, i.e., one may select those options in the print dialog box, but the printer will respond by printing on only one side of the paper that's pulled from the tray bin. Happily, it does print in color!
Does anyone have any insight or solutions for this issue? Thanks.

I can understand the tray call not working, as they often differ for each vendor. But duplexing is often the same call for all devices, so it is odd that this is not working.
What you can do is compare PPDs between the Dell and the Xerox. If the Dell is not installed on a previous system then hopfully you can take the old driver package apart and extract the PPD. If you cannot get the PPD then let me know and I can install on my 10.6 test Mac and get the PPD.
    With the PPD open you will see an entry similar to the following;
    *OpenGroup: Finishing/Finishing
    *OpenUI *Duplex/Duplex: PickOne
    *OrderDependency: 50.0 AnySetup *Duplex
    *DefaultDuplex: DuplexNoTumble
    *Duplex None/Off: "<</Duplex false /Tumble false>> systemdict /setpagedevice get exec"
    *Duplex DuplexNoTumble/Long edge: "<</Duplex true /Tumble false>> systemdict /setpagedevice get exec"
    *Duplex DuplexTumble/Short edge: "<</Duplex true /Tumble true>> systemdict /setpagedevice get exec"
    *CloseUI: *Duplex
If you compare the Duplex entry in the Dell to that used by the Xerox then you may see what each printer uses.

  • Lost shared printer in Lion and can't re-install it

I have a Samsung SCX-3200 printer at home that is connected to a Mac Mini.  When I come home with my Macbook Air running OS Lion I would print to it over Wi-Fi as a shared printer attached to the Mini.
A few days ago it stopped being able to print that way, so I deleted it from the list of printers and planned to re-install it on the Air.  At first it would appear as a possible printer to be added, and would ask if I wanted to download and install the needed software, and I would say yes.  But it always produced an error saying the installation failed.
Now the printer is no longer even detected as a possibility to install.  What can I do?  How is this possible?
If I connect the Air directly to the printer via USB it works fine.  But I can't always be disconnecting and re-connecting the printer, I want to be able to use it again via Wi-Fi as a Shared Printer.
    Thank you.
    Peter

Just guessing a bit here, but do you have the disc that came with the printer? Have you tried putting it in the mac mini, and then searching for the drivers on the disc from your Air over your local network?
