Print index cards on P1102w

I have an HP P1102w LaserJet printer, which is terrifically fast, and I really like it. I want to print index cards (3x5) on it, though, and it won't cooperate. I'm using Microsoft Word 2003 and Windows 7. I can print cards in portrait mode, but not landscape mode. I had a great deat of difficulty with it a few months ago, but found a solution somewhere on line; now I need to do it again and I can't remember the solution. All looks fine in Print Preview, but while the cards go through, they come out blank if I try to print in landscape.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Looks like no one is interested in helping me, but I did have some success, so I'll share it with you.
For printing 3x5 cards on your P1102w, go to printer settings,  then General/Preferences and put in 5 tall, 3 wide. Then when you want to go back to regular printing, you'll have to change it again. Not exactly high-tech, but it works.

  • Tutorial: Print index cards without removing paper from tray for Officejet Pro 8000.

The HP Officejet Pro 8000 and Officejet Pro 8000 wireless do not have a slot for inserting index cards and envelopes.
If you are wanting to print index cards without removing the paper from the tray, follow these steps.
The steps below are for 3 x 5 index cards.
    1.) Open Microsoft Word
2.) Go to the Insert tab and insert a rectangle shape
3.) Draw a rectangle of any size
4.) Right click on the rectangle and select "Format Autoshape..."
5.) Under the Size tab, enter 5" for the height and 3" for the width (make sure "Absolute" is selected)
6.) Under the Layout tab, select "Center" for the horizontal alignment
    7.) Click OK
8.) Use the keyboard up arrow key to move the rectangle to the top of the page.  Make sure the top edge of the rectangle touches the top edge of the document.
9.) Print this document on plain 8.5" x 11" paper
10.) When you want to print an index card, place this 8.5x11 document in the paper tray printed side face up.  Then place an index card over the rectangle and align with the border of the rectangle.  After you print the index card, remove the 8.5x11 paper for the next time you need to print an index card.
Note 1: This are USA instructions.  If you live in the UK or other countries you may have different paper size standards.

I can't tell you how much I HATE this printer.  I will never buy an HP product again.  BROTHERS printers are simply and easy to use.

  • C7280 cannot print index cards???????????

Trying to print onto 3 x 5 index cards and they are not getting picked up!
I am setting to 3 x 5 index cards and loading them into the photo tray as instructions show but it tries to pick from main paper tray only. Set from paper tray to automatic and still doesn't activate photo tray. If i set up for photo with 4 x 6 then photo tray activates and prints off center!
    What is wrong?

  • What is the secrect to print 4x6 Index Cards in an HP C309a

I have a Microsoft Word Template for printing recipes on 4x6 Index Cards.    However, there is no known combination of settings on my HP C309a that will let me print Index Cards.    The built-in Printing Shortcuts contains an entry called Postcard Printing, but it call for using the Photo-Tray.     When I put my cards in the photo tray, it prints from the main tray.  If I remove the main tray it tells me add paper.
This is a very simple task.  Why does HP make it nearly impossible to do something as trivial as printing on an Index Card?  I'm wasting sheet after sheet of paper trying to figure this out.   I need detailed, step by step instructions on how to proceed.

Yes, I did try that and it made no difference.     I must admit, the timing of your reply is perfect.    Just yesterday I accidentally stumbled on the answer to this problem.   And it clearly demonstrates how poorly designed the printing feature is in Microsoft Word.
To print a 4x6" Index Card in Microsoft Word 2010, you must do the following on the Word Page Layout Toolbar:
    1. Click on the Orientation Icon and select "Landscape".
    2. Click on the Size Icon and select "Index Card 4x6 inch".
    3. Click on Margins Icon and select "Narrow".
Place the Index Card stock in the Photo Tray and click on the Printer Properties for the HP C309a.   Then set the following preferences:
    Printing shortcuts: General Everyday Printing
    Paper source: Photo Tray
Paper sizes: Index Card 4x6 inch
    Paper type: Automatic
After setting the Printer Properties,  you must set the layout and scaling.
    1. Click on the last drop-down setting in the Print Print Page.
    2. Next click on Scale to Paper Size and select Borderless 4x6in from the list.
    Lastly press the Print button.

  • Index Cards

Does anyone know if and how to create and print index cards?

    David,
    Here's a start.
I started with a Blank Page Layout Template. Then I created a custom page size of 3" X 5" Landscape and named it IndexCard.
After that I then inserted a Table and used the Table Inspector to set the number of rows and columns. I couldn't set the row height small enough until I reduced the font size. The illustration shows 6-point. You will have to decide if you want grid lines (borders) in your table. Set them to None or change the color if you don't like the bold lines.
I used a little formula to populate the cells for the purpose of illustration.
That's a lot of content for such a small format.
Once you have everything the way you want it, you can Capture the page and make it available in the Add Sections menu.
I'll be happy to help you get to this point.

  • HP LaserJet 1018 not printing landscape on index cards

I regularly print on 3 x 5 index cards with this printer.  In fact, this is the reason I purchased the printer.  Just this morning, I am suddenly unable to print landscape on it.  Any file set up in landscape will run through the printer and come out blank.  However, if I change the set up to print portrait, my prints are perfect.  Hm...does anyone have any suggestions?

Hi. Did you ever figure out why you can't print 3x5 index cards in landscape mode on your HP printer? I'm having exactly the same problem. I can print the document on ordinary 8.5x11, but not on index cards. It was working a couple of weeks earlier. I've tried all the obvious solutions but so far nothing works. Thanks.

  • Printing to an Index Card

Hello. I am in the education field, and I'm trying to print 3x5 index cards to a Xerox Phaser 3500. I've been trying to do it in Word 2004, to no avail, and I'm not finding it any easier in Pages. Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

Difficult to help without knowing what problems you are running into....
    General approach:
First, will your printer actually run a 3x5 index card? Can you load it and have it gripped by the printer and spit out the other end?
If your printer can handle it, then you have to tell Word/Pages that you want the paper size to be 3x5. In both programs, this is under File | Page Setup. You might have to use the Manage Custom Sizes entry under Paper Size to create a custom paper size.

  • Can't print on an index card

Yes, I'm already trying to print out on index card the text which was created in Word and and then printed to the PDF writer "printer"
Unfortunately, I get my text printed on an 8.5"x11" letter size paper not on a 3"x5" custom sized sheet that I have specified in Word & it shows up in Word as a 3x5 sized paper. Printing on an 8.5"x11" paper is not what I want; I want to print on an index card put into the printer.
I have done this with no problem directly from Word. But since I don't currently have a printer, I need to have the PDF portability to take it to Office Max and get it printed on an index card there.
Even though I specified custom size in Word for the document as 5"(width) by 3" (height). I cannot get the Adobe Pro 8 to produce a custom PDF document that has those specifications. I have gone to Advanced printing options in Adobe Pro 8, PostScript, etc. and save them there (it takes the settings), but it's not coming out, I still get the 8.5x11" letter sized paper. And Office Max didn't know how to do this either.
Is there anyone that can help?

What version of Acrobat are you running? I'm running Acrobat Professional 8.
I can't imagine what I could've done wrong. I'll detail my exact steps and maybe you could tell me what I did.
I have a custom sized Word document that's 3"(high)x5"(wide) shown in the graphic below.
I do a CTL P and get the print dialog box with the default of Adobe PDF,
I click on Properties & get the Adobe PDF Properties with the Adobe PDF Setting tab focused,
          Default Settings: is Standard
(although here I've also created and Index Card settings and that didn't work either, both w & w/o the last setting below)
         Adobe PDF Security: is None
Adobe PDF Output Folder is Prompt for PDF filename
Adobe PDF Page Size: is now Index Card, which I have just created with settings of:
                                                 Paper Names: Index Card
                                                 Paper Size Width: 5.0
                                                 Paper Size Height: 3.0
                                                 Unit: Inch
View Adobe PDF Results is checked
    Add document information is checked
Delete log files for successful jobs is checked
Ask to replace existing PDF file (it does this even if it's NOT checked) is checked
I click OK and OK again; it goes thru its gyrations and
out pops an 8.5"x11" sheet on the screen with the data from the Word document flush up against the right edge in the middle vertically between the top and the bottom of the page.
Then I go to crop the page to the index card size and first it says I can't change the page size,
so I go to Print Setup and change the size there and go & crop in and nothing happens, it's still 8.5x11.
The only thing I can think of is that you have a different version than me or maybe wonderful Vista has screwed things up.I miss XP.
    Any suggestions?~JerseyGrr l

  • 3052a print on 3 x 5 index card

I have a 3050A all in one printer.  I cannot print on 3 x 5 index cards.  I am unable to find information anywhere that refers to this problem.  I appreciate any information anyone may have about this.

    Hi Handziuk,
Welcome to the HP Support forums.  I understand that you are trying to print on 3 x 5 index cards using your Deskjet 3052a printer.
I have included the product specifications for your printer and the 3 x 5 index card is not a supported media.

  • How do you print a size 2 font document on a 4 X 6 index card?

How do you print a size 2 font document on a 4 X 6 index card?

Some printers have a print odd or even numbered pages setting. See if yours does. Do a ⌘ + P and select 'paper handling from the pull down menu to see if your printer has this feature.

  • M451dw/2025dn can't print 3x5 index card on Mavericks (10.9)

I used to be able to print 3x5 index cards in the manual tray of my 2025dn with my Mac on OS X 10.8 and earlier, but after upgrading to 10.9 (and now 10.9.2) it doesn't work. The index card comes out blank. I have also tested this on my new M451dw (seems to be the same printer with a few extras).
Using MS Word, I tried a letter sized sheet in the manual tray to see what was happening and the text comes out in the lower left hand position of the page, as if the index card was moved all the way to the left of the manual print tray instead of being in the middle, where the guides are.
Using Apple Pages, a letter sized sheet in the manual tray prints in the correct spot (middle of the page on the left side) but in a larger font, as if the index-sized page was being scaled to the full letter-sized page. Putting an index card in the manual tray comes out blank.
Using MS Word on a Windows PC works just fine.
Any idea what is going on here? Do the 10.9 drivers need updating?
    Thanks!

  • How do I get my HP 2645 to print 4x6 cards. It gives me a mismatch paper size error

How do I get my HP 2645 to print 4x6 cards?   It gives me a mismatch paper size error.

    Hi @aleek,
Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums! I see you would like to print 4x6 cards to your HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 2645, when you attempt to print the card you get a 'Paper Mismatch' error.
I would like you to go ahead and take a look in your User Guide on page 10, here it shows how to load the media and change the printing preferences, although it shows Photos, you would use the same guidelines and steps for the Index cards, just be sure to change the media type to the correct card you are using.
Once you have the media loaded and settings set if you are still getting the error, continue here: 'Paper Mismatch,' or 'Paper Size Mismatch' Error Message Displays When Printing
I hope this helps, if you have anymore questions please let me know.

  • Trying to create index cards in pages

    Hello,
I am trying to create a 3x5 flash card template to study, and can't find an easy way to set this up on Pages. I need to make about 150 double-sided cards with text on the front, and text wrapped around a small picture on the back. So I need to create an efficient system to plug in data as well as a picture for all of these items. I've tried several things so far:
    1) Create a blank document 8.5x11 landscape orientation, then pull the guides down to fit 4 cards on a page. I would then ideally enter the info, print double-sided, then cut with a paper cutter. This formatting works fine for the first page, but I can't seem to replicate this page or the guides onto subsequent pages (guides can't be made to master objects I guess). If I try to select all 4 text boxes, copy, then paste them into the next page they for some strange reason scale down in size, so I lose the dimensions and placement of the boxes.
    2) Create a brand new template with aforementioned guides and text boxes. And again, when I tried this I couldn't get the page and formatting to be replicated to subsequent pages. When I made the text boxes into master objects to try and achieve this, all text I enter into them gets replicated into every subsequent box, which is not what I need because I need unique text on each card.
    3) Create a 3x5 page size document, which works ok but I cannot get a placeholder image to be replicated to subsequent pages. That means I need to drag the pictures on and format them one by one, which is again time-consuming. This is also tricky because I need to find a printer that handle printing directly onto index cards, which is a little specialized compared to printing on standard letter paper.
I've also searched the forums and google to try and find add-ons or shareware that can do this, but haven't come up with anything!
This is weird because surely I am not the only student who wants to create index cards on the computer rather than by hand! Please help..my final is next week..
    Thank you.

Try to "capture" your first page thru the menu Format > Advanced > Capture Pages"
Then you will be able to insert a new page with the defined attributes from the menu entitled "Sections" in the toolbar.

  • Index card alignment on B109N

    I have a B109N all-in-one.
When I feed in 3"x5" index card paper (which is supposedly a supported size), the printer doesn't feed the paper straight throughout the run, and the end result is that the top of the page is centred but the bottom of the page slides off to the right.
Is there anything that can be done about this?
The paper is flush against the tray and the side of the printer (I can't make it any more flush than it is.)

There is a paper guide on the left side that should be snugged up tight against the stack of cards as shown on page 12-13 of the user manual here.

  • Can you download extra templates for Pages?? If so, is there a template for 4x6 inch index cards??

I am working on finiding a program that will allow me to type index cards for use in my school studing. And so I was wondering if pages has a template for 4x6 inch index cards?? If not can I download one?? And where can I download one?

    Hi a,
The 'template' would be essentially a Custom Page size, set in the Page Setup dialogue.
Go File (menu) > Page Setup... to open the dialogue.
Click the popup menu beside Paper Size, and look for 4x6. If offered a choice, use the one not labeled "borderless". Borderless printing (on my printer) generates 'black' using mostly the three colour ink cartridge—costlier, and less 'black' than the results from the Black cartridge.
If 4 x 6 or 6 x 4 is not available, look for 'Manage Custom Sizes' or similar at the bottom of the list.
Once you have the page set, you can set tabs, type size and font as you wish, place text boxes (if that will help your card organization) and set other features as you wish, then Save the result as a Template.
Saved as a Template, the new template will be available in the My Templates section of the Template Chooser.
    Regards,
    Barry
