Print job disappears almost immediately

This behavior started in LR2. Thinking back it may be related to OSX upgrade to Snow Leopard. After I hit print, the print job is sent to the printer and almost immediately “disappears” like nothing was sent. I have also gotten an error message of “/Library/Printers/EPSON/InkjetPrinter2/Filter/rastertoescpll.app/Contents/MacOS/rasterto escpll failed”. This only occurs in Lightroom. My workaround is to take the image into Photoshop and print from there. This happens with both of my Epson printers and also with an HP LaserJet, so I think it is a LR problem and not an Epson problem. All drivers for all printers updated to latest available for Snow Leopard. The behavior continued with LR3. Fixed itself for awhile, then in the middle of printing a series of prints, started again. I cannot print from within LR at all. MacBook Pro 2.16 core 2 duo, OSX 10.6.4, LR3, Photoshop CS3.
Through google searches I found the “rastertoescpll failed” issues reported after Snow Leopard, but they were related to Epson printers, and not just LR related and fixed with driver updates. This has not worked for me.
I really like the LR print module and any help would be appreciated.

I realise this is well after your first message - but I am having the same problem now printing from my Mac OS X (Mountain Lion) through Photoshop to my Epson R1900. The print job appears then quickly disappears... Did you manage to solve this problem? I have uninstalled and reinstalled everything...

  • Why do print jobs disappear and never make it to the queue.?

Win 7/64 SP 1.... legacy Lexmark X6675 printer/copy/scanner/FAX ....USB wired connection. Windows on auto update. IE 11.
Printer was working fine until 2 weeks ago. Will not print anything now. Rest of "4 in 1" works fine. I get no messages either on the printer or computer that anything is wrong. All Microsoft scans say all is OK including Mr. FixIt.
Did complete file scan through command prompt nothing wrong. Have stopped and started print spooler which was empty. Have run virus scan and scanned with Malwarebytes ....nothing.
Will print OK on an XP machine. Will print a test page from it's install program but will not print a test page from within Windows 7.  Print jobs disappear and never end up in queue from all programs I have, MS Works 9, Notepad, Wordpad, Acrobat reader,
Microsoft Paint. Installed new inexpensive Canon printer on computer and it works fine. All hardware I believe is OK. Problem IS software.
I have reinstalled the program 3 times. 2 times through Microsoft auto up date, once by downloading driver program from Lexmark and setting up as a "new" set up.
    Any assistance will be appreciated.

    Hi,
Since this problem occur 2 weeks ago, the easier way to get it back is using system restore to roll back to a previous time when everything works fine.
If you have no system point, let us know what scan and "fix it" tool have you tried?
    Firstly, run Printer troubleshooter:
Open the Printer troubleshooter by clicking the Start button, and then clicking
Control Panel. In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click
Troubleshooting. Under Hardware and Sound, click
    Use a printer.
Next,  uninstall it from Device Manager completely and then rename the spool printer and driver files:
    1. Open Command Prompt with administrator.
    2. At the command prompt, type the following commands (press ENTER after each)
    3. Rename %systemroot%\System32\Spool\Printers Printers.old.
    4. Rename %systemroot%\System32\Spool\Drivers\w32x86 w32x86.old
Reinstall it again and make sure get the latest and proper driver from Lexmark.

  • Print jobs disappearing with APEBS

I have a Windows Vista 64 bit machine with a AEBS gigabit running 7.2.1 firmware. Connected to the USB port on the AEBS is a Konica Minolta magicolor 2500w. This printer works fine connected directly to the computer but when connected to the AEBS the print jobs go into the spool and then disappear. BonJour (1.04 for 64 bit Vista) finds the printer fine and I am using the 64 bit Vista drivers from Konica but cannot get this to work.
Also I have a dell 924 that exhibits the same problem. I have tried manually adding the port with the same results. Anyone have any ideas?
    Thanks.

I can find no reference that the HP P1006 uses PCL5e. Do you have a citation you can share that indicates this? I believe that you will find that this printer only uses the XQX stream protocol. For network printing you will need a driver such as the open source driver found at http://foo2xqx.rkkda.com/

  • Print Job Disappears

Hi all. I'm having an issue with my work computer not printing. I send a print job to the printer and it simply disappears from the queue with no error message. I have updated all drivers, reset the printing system several times, and still no luck. The computer can recognize the printers (I've tried multiple), and seems to display their current status and print queue just fine.
    Computer: intel iMac OS 10.8.1
Printers: Dell 2350dn laser printer, HP designjet 130nr, both setup and connected via IP.
    Thanks in advance.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the page that opens.
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Try the action that you're having trouble with again. Post any messages that appear in the Console window – the text, please, not a screenshot.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
PLEASE DO NOT INDISCRIMINATELY DUMP THOUSANDS OF LINES FROM THE LOG INTO A MESSAGE. If you do that, I will not respond.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Edit it out by search-and-replace in a text editor before posting.

  • Printing jobs disappearing

Since upgraded to ML that all my print jobs sent when the printer is not physically connected (USB) get cancelled/deleted without a warning.
I used to work like this in previous versions of OSX as its very easy to go around with my macbook air and print whatever I need (invoices, cutomer orders, ...)
and when arriviving to the office I just need to connect the printer and all the jobs get printed.
It's annoying that this changed but what makes me angry is that there is no notification of this and I'm loosing some printings, even by using the pause printer when i'm away, because it's easy to forget to put in pause mode.
Is there anyway of change this to what used to be? Meaning I print and it stays in the printer queue until it sends to the printer!

I'm having a similar problem since upgrading my 2006 MacBook from Tiger to Snow Leopard last month. Formerly I could send to the print queue and documents would wait for days, through daily reboots, until I got around to connecting to my Brother MFC-7420.
After the upgrade, the documents disappear from the queue after a reboot or the accidental closing of the printer icon in the Dock.
Manually pausing the printer seems to work, as jmm315 suggested last summer, but this is not a user-friendly solution. Any other ideas would be appreciated, including how to nudge Apple to restore the "automatically pause after x minutes of searching for the printer" function. There once was a "Request a feature" link or button somewhere along the top right screen--I remember using it to suggest putting the day/date in the top right corner along with the time--but can't find it now.
(edited to add: just realized this is a Mountain Lion thread, but it's what came up when I searched for the problem)

  • Print Jobs disappearing

When printing to a shared USB printer on a windows XP box the prints are going but nothing happens. The printer is an HP P1006 which supports PCL5e which I have loaded via Gimp-print. I shared the printer on the XP box and I can install it easily on my G4 but when I go to print the job just disappears and nothing prints. I think it's the printer driver on XP but I just wanted to toss it out here to see if there were any other ideas.

I can find no reference that the HP P1006 uses PCL5e. Do you have a citation you can share that indicates this? I believe that you will find that this printer only uses the XQX stream protocol. • Workaround for Print Job disappear for Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Power Point...)

    Hi All,
If you come across the printing is not working, or cancelling automatically or disappear from spooler,  for Microsoft applications, then here is the workaround.
Create a new user account and login to to the computer, and you should be able to print any documents.
Here is the step to create new user.
    1. Control Panel-> Click on User accounts
    2. In User accounts, click add user to create new user.
    3. Use that account to login and do printing.
Again it is temporary work around, until we get permanent fix for this issue.

    The kernel failure panic kind of message points to some other activity;
as such, it may be there could be a conflict in some applications; as a
logical failure is indicated by the first part of the message content.
Whether or not any common kernel panic resolution ideas could work
in regard to the trigger of this action, is another matter & unresolved.
    Reading and understanding the resulting logs is part of this resolution;
the following link has information on these kinds of issues in general.
Technical Note TN2063: Understanding and Debugging Kernel Panics

    Resolving Kernel Panics:
    http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/kernelpanics.html
If there were more, perhaps from another error log in the system, to
point to other contributing factors in the cause of this action & report,
some course of correction could be indicated; should that involve a
reinstall of certain programs (and their update files, as Office has) or
perhaps removing other seldom used applications if they were proven
to be part of conflict in the system, with Office triggering its appearance.
Some troubleshooting of this issue may point to some course of action
and if the problem is only software-based, then it may involve testing
or moving, or reinstalling some applications. There is a chance, too,
that something else may be acting up at a low-level of the system. If
that were the case, sometimes a re-install of the system on a wiped
and zeroed drive would be a path to consider to test or resolve this.
But only after other things have been tried. If you have a full backup
of the computer's contents on a bootable external drive, that would be
a means of testing the computer itself.
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Why are bonjour print jobs 'disappearing' under Lion?

I have a iMac running Lion.  It has a Canon printer attached via USB.  I share that over the network.
For work, I have a Win7 (64) machine.  It connects to my home network (wireless).  I installed Bonjour for Windows from Apple onto that machine.
It seems the shared printers, no problem.  I installed the Canon printer driver on Windows.
Using the Bonjour wizard, I created a printer on WIndows and pointed it (via Have Disk) to the printer driver.
When I print, the Win7 device sends the job to the Mac.  I see the job in the Printer Control panel, showing all jobs.
It shows as completed BUT never gets sent to the printer.
If I look in the System Information, Printer Error log, I see one message around the time I sent THREE jobs:
    E [08/Feb/2012:08:50:56 -0500] Missing printer-uri, job-uri, or ppd-name attribute
    E [08/Feb/2012:08:50:56 -0500] Returning IPP client-error-bad-request for windows-ext (no URI) from [v1.fe80::79b5:d75c:5f0e:797d+en1]
Anyone know how to get this to work?
Seems like it is all Apple Software at work here... I hope I can get this to work.

FWIW, I've had similar issues with Lion and have finally just turned everything related to Spam off, so that all my emails go into my inboxes.
My guess was that there was some behind the scenes process deciding that some mail I wated to keep was spam on one of my comptuers, but not on another. Since all the the email accounts are IMAP, when i do delete an email from one comptuer, it gets deleted from all of them, but at least now I get to decide what gets deleted and what doesn't.  More work for me, yes, but at least emails don't go missing anymore..
Mail in Lion is not problem free.

  • Print jobs disappear

I have a 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium PC (SP1) with a strange print spooling problem.  The printer is on the network (a Brother HL-5370DW), and I'm using the latest driver from the printer manufacturer.  I can print fine from some applications
(MS Word, IE, Firefox), but with others (Adobe Reader, notepad, etc.) I get the "Printing" dialog (with page progress if the job is large enough), but nothing ever goes to the printer, and the print queue is empty.  What's the solution to this problem?

Follow recommendation from Answers (Author Shekhar):
    1. Run Printer Troubleshooter:
Then, try the Printer troubleshooter, which will attempt to automatically diagnose and fix your problem.
Open the Printer troubleshooter by clicking the Start button Picture of the Start button, and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type troubleshooter, and then click Troubleshooting. Under Hardware and Sound, click Use a printer.
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Open-the-Printer-troubleshooter
    2. Rename the spool printer and driver files:
       1. Click Start  type cmd and  right-click cmd.exe, select Run as administrator. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type your password or click Continue.
       2. At the command prompt, type the following commands (press ENTER after each)
       3. Rename %systemroot%\System32\Spool\Printers Printers.old
       4. Rename %systemroot%\System32\Spool\Drivers\w32x86 w32x86.old
       5. Exit
    3. Restart Print Spooler service:
To restart the Print Spooler service
You must be logged on as an administrator to perform these steps.
    1.    Open Administrative Tools by clicking the Start button  , and then clicking Control Panel. In the search box, type administrative tools, and then click Administrative Tools.
    2.    Double-click Services.   If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.
    3.    Right-click the Print Spooler service, and then click Properties.
    4.    On the General tab, next to Startup type, make sure that Automatic is selected.
    5.    If the service is not already running, under Service status, click Start, and then click OK.   If you're prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

  • Print Job remains in queue even though it prints OK?

    Hello All,
I am trying to help a friend of mine setup wireless printing from her Macbook. Unfortunately I don’t know very much about Macs and OSX but I am a quick learner
    The setup:
Virgin Media Cable Modem -> connected (RJ45) to a Wireless Linksys Cable Modem -> connected (RJ45) to a Belkin USB Hub.
From the USB hub I have two printers connected:
    1 x HP Deskjet
    1 x Samsung ML-2240 Laserjet
Both these printers install to the Macbook perfectly as default USB devices (wirelessly) via the USB Hub. They also appear correctly in the Belkin USB Hub software console.
The HP printer works perfectly every time it is used, no issues whatsoever. The Samsung printer prints ok the first time but the print jobs do not disappear from the print queue on the Macbook, the print job doesn’t appear to complete even though it has actually printed without any issue.
The problem this causes is that after the first print job has been printed it is not possible to print again. Even if I delete the print job from the queue manually I cannot still not print a second time. The only way I can get the printer to print again is to unplug and then plug back in the USB cable that is connected to the USB Hub. When I unplug the cable the print job disappears from the queue on the Macbook. I can then reconnect the USB cable and connect to the printer and it will print again.
I have made sure that I have the latest firmware on the Macbook which is running 10.5.* OSX. I have also installed the latest Firmware and Drivers on the Samsung Printer and the USB Hub.
Is there a different way to setup the print queue that you think may help? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I spent 5 hours on this yesterday and it still isn’t working
    Thanks
    M

It should bring up the Common UNIX Printing System (CUPS) 1.3.11 manual if you're running 10.5.8 (hint; 10.5 is meaningless). Since it doesn't, I suggest doing an Archive & Install installation, followed by running Software Update.
P.S. http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=12477185 might give you some clues.

  • HP 1505n - Print Jobs stop when sent to queue

I recently purchased an HP LaserJet 1505n for my home office. I have several Mac's all running 10.5.1 all connecting to it. Most print to it via the network (Bonjour) but I do have 1 Mac hooked up directly via USB to the printer. So, both the USB And Network Interfaces are being used on the printer (which is why I bought it).
Every now and then when I try to print, the print job just stops immediately in the queue. When I try to restart it, it stops again. Sometimes physically resetting the printer works, but rarely. I have also deleted the queues and re-added them. Nothing seems to work. It seem that Adobe Acrobat files never print, but Firefox will always. (Strange...)
I have read a few other threads on this issue and they all mention that it is a driver issue from HP. I have try to get the OpenSource drivers, but I have not found any for the HP 1505n.
Below is the /var/log/cups/error_log. Does anyone have any suggestions or recommendations? Do I just wait for an OpenSource driver or HP to update their drivers?
    Thanks!

This is what I got from HP...need to grab CVs and Libraries Folder from a PowerPC mac.
    and...it works!
Intel Mac fix for Office 2004
    1. On a computer that can still print using Office 2004, go to HD>System>Library>Printers and control+click on Libraries and Create Archive. In the same location, control+click on the CVs folder and Create Archive. Save these Archived (zip) folders to the Desktop.
    2. Copy these two Archived (zip) folders to the Intel Mac that cannot print. *note – you will need a network connection to the computer or a flash drive.
    3. Make sure you quit all applications including Safari, Entourage etc.
    4. Create a New Folder on the Desktop of the Intel Mac (Name this folder “Backup of Libraries and CVs”)
    5. Open the Macintosh HD>System>Library folder and control+click on the Printers folder and select Get Info. Click on Name & Location and set the permissions for Everyone to Read & Write.
    6. Open the Printers folder and drag the Libraries and CVs folder to the new folder you had just created to backup the old files.
    7. Extract the Archived Libraries and CVs folder you have copied to the Intel Mac by double clicking on the folders.
    8. Copy the extracted Libraries and CVs folders to the Printers folder (You will be asked to authenticate the copy)
    9. Restart the Computer.
    10. Open Disk Utility and select your Macintosh HD Volume. Select Repair Permissions.
    11. Open a MS Office document and print to verify the issue is resolved.

  • Lost print jobs

Our users have recently adopted the practice of turning network printers off at night to save power. However, as a result, some batch jobs that run on our servers overnight that send output directly to a powered-off printer have those print jobs disappear. The printers in questions are generally (though not exclusively) HPs with JetDirect cards, and are set up as remote lpd printers on the Solaris hosts.
It seems to me that if these printers are powered off when the print job is initiated that the job would just be queued on the Solaris host and then be sent to the printer when it is powered on, but that's not what we're seeing.
If it makes a difference, we're using enscript to convert the plain-text output to PostScript before sending it to the printer, and are seeing a timeout message on the stderr of enscript:
    ecb1124100tn1: timeout
[ 6 pages * 1 copy ] sent to ecb1124100tn1Any thoughts on this situation would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Bill

Some time ago we had systems connected to HP printers with JetDirect boxes (but running Solaris 2. 6), and the same problem would occur. If the printer was offline for any reason, jobs sent to the system simply were gone, or would show up in a directory queue but would never print when the printer came available again. I messed with the printer admin, jet admin and JD box, but overall the best solution was to replace the printers with network-ready units. Printers are cheap enough now and all our printing problems were solved for $100. If the printer went off line, once repowered, previously sent jobs were instantly printed.
