Print Job Progress

Is there some way in OS X or via the CUPS web interface to see how much of a print job has been transferred to the printer? Even third party solutions that interface with CUPS is of interest of course. For example, displaying "Sent 4.3 MB of 170.7 MB to printer" or similar.
Working with graphically heavy print jobs, it's valuable to be able to see an estimation of how long a specific print job has to go before it has transferred to the printer in full.
Also, it seems Windows sends print jobs to the printer quicker than CUPS, any particular reason why? Same print jobs, same printer...

The easiest way to cancel a print job would be by pressing the cancle button on the front panel.  This is the "X" button near the right side of the control panel, see pages 10 and 11 of the user manual here.

  • How to cancel a print job in progress

I have a HP C5580.  When i was using Windows ME on my former PC, I could easily go to Printers, select the 5580,  hit documents in queue, and hit cancel , and the printer stopped.
Got a new Compaq  PC with Windows 7, and I can't figure out how to cancel a print job  mid stream.  I go to Printers and Devices, giet the page that allows me to view the print jobs in queue, I hit "print job in process", but the "Cancel" is not in bold print and I can'tfind any other way to cancel the job.

  • How do I purge print jobs on an officejet 4215 using windows 7 64 bit OS?

The all-in-one officejet 4215 will not print a print job nor will it delete the print job from the queue. I have uninstalled the printer and reinstalled, unpluged and disconnected from the network and nothing works.

    Hi,
Please clarify your meaning "reinstalled" the printer - The driver for your printer already included within Windows7, any software you may use is not intended to Windows7.
May the stuck print job being printed upon restarting the PC?
If so, i would recomment you to try and disable the USB Ports power Management. It may cause connectivity issues with the LIDIL printing language being used by your printer:
    Right click on Computer.
    Click Manage.
Open the Device Manager from the left pane.
Locate the Universal Serial Bus Controller category, double click to expend it.
Locate the first USB Root Hub
Double click it, then click the Power Management tab.
Clear the Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power check box.
    Click OK.
Repeat steps 6 through 8 for each USB Root Hub listed in the Device Manager.
Now follow and check for any improvement.
Please let me know of any progress,

  • Page Count Missing From Print Job Status Window

When I print a multi-page document from TextEdit or AppleWorks, the Print Status window does not show the page count. Instead it always shows "Sheet 1 of 1".
Both TextEdit and AppleWorks show the document as having four pages. A print preview from AppleWorks confirms the document does have four pages. Yet when the document is printed the Print Status window continues to show only "Sheet 1 of 1" with no indication that the document actually has a total of four pages. Nor does it show which pages is currently printing.
I am running Mac OS X 10.5.8. If I recall correctly, previous versions of Mac OS X showed both the total page count and the currently printing page number, which incremented as the job printed. As it is, there is no way to know the progress of a large print job.
    Any idea what is wrong?
    Thanks.

Could some check their print status window while a job is printing? Does it always show "Sheet 1 of 1" or does it show the page count that increments as the job prints?
    Thanks.

  • Blank Form Printing at the beginning of Print job

I'm using Adobe Output Designer 5.5 and have made some changes to an existing form, recompiled the form, and performed a test presentment. The problem is that I have a blank page that prints at the beginning of the print job. How can I get rid of the blank page? The problem did not begin until I made changes to the existing form. Do you have any idea why the blank page is suddenly printing? I didn't change any system settings.

    Hi,
I currently have the same problem. I updated an existing template with an JFMain page, and AOD just puts the page in front of the original page. I will post a piece of the log here, maybe you can see what the problem is?

  • Print Jobs Keep Stopping

I have an Epson 6600 printer attached to my New Intel iMac. I send jobs to the printer and they show up in the list of jobs to print, but the status says "Jobs Stopped." When I click on the Start Jobs button the progress bar starts, then it says Jobs Stopped again! I can do a printer self test with no problem. I have repaired permissions, and restarted the printer and the computer.
My printer just won't start jobs! What can I do?

    Hello Kevin,
To determine why the spooler is stopping we need to look at the cups error log. This is located in the Console application. With it open, click on the Logs icon and then expand the /var/log entry. Then expand the cups entry. Under here you will see the error_log. The error will be shown with an E to the left and show what process failed. To determine what that process was look back up the log for the process ID (PID) for that print job. It will probably show a filter or plugin that is stopping the print.
Now the repair permissions is usually enough to fix this. But sometimes you need to do this after booting from the OS X disc and running the Disk Utility from here so that the cups daemon hasn't started.
If that doesn't help then look at trying Fixamac's Printer Setup Repair utility and/or running the Intel Combo updater.

  • Why does Lookout fail (freeze) when a print job fails?

I've experienced this only a few times for several years now, but it is repeatable. Basically, if Lookout sends a print job (panel or alarm/every) to the default printer and the printer is not online for whatever reason, the Lookout.exe consumes 100% CPU according to task manager and when commanded to close or exit, a popup indicating "x number of print jobs in progress" displays repeatedly and I must "end program" and restart Lookout to continue operations. Shouldn't Lookout offer the option to abort the print job and resume service within a couple of mins or when commanded rather than stubbornly lock-up if a printout fails?
    John T. Sampson

I'm runnning the latest build of Lookout 5.1 on a Windows 2000 PC. I have experienced this on several other of the same systems as well. For example, I have a report panel configured to print automatically at 0700 and typically there's no problem, but if the default printer fails for some reason and is not able to complete the print job, Lookout's app consumes 100% CPU and will not shutdown when commanded - instead it reports a "print job in progress." It would ne nice if Lookout would let the print job timeout and resume normal operations. Instead, I must "end task" Lookout and restart it to resume.
Any other thoughts? Can we configure a timeout on the print job?
Thanks again for your comments, JTS

  • Lost Print Job

Running 2008R2 Print Server. We have an HP plotter against which there is 1 print job noted. However there are no jobs showing in the queue. I have tried to delete the job but it's not visible. I restarted the spooler and the plotter but the number of
print jobs is still stuck at 1. No new print jobs can progress. How can I remove this stuck job?

Do you see the print job on the server or on one of the client machines?
The OS default for spooled print jobs is \windows\system32\spool\printers.  Since this is a print server I highly recommend changing the default location to a disk other than the system disk if possible.  If you have already made this configuration
    change.
You can delete pending print jobs from the current spool directory.  Stop the print spooler service, navigate to the spool directly and delete the spl and shd file (those are NOT shockwave files if you happen to be using the UI), then start the print
    spooler service.
    Change spool directory
Click Start, click Administrative Tools, right-click
Print Management, and then click Run as administrator.
In the left pane, click Print Servers, right-click the applicable print server, and then click
Properties.  Advanced is where you set the spool directory.
If you are only seeing the print job on one client machine, the client has rendered the job and has yet to send it to the print server.  Let me know if that's the case and I'll send instructions.

  • Print jobs will not print

I have an 8620 that is enabled for web services.  The printer is listed on the HP Connected site.  I emailed a document to the email address on the printer and it is sitting in a status of "Sending to printer".  I also enabled the printer for Google Cloud Print and I have 2 jobs there claiming to be "In Progress".

    Hi @browetally,
Thank you for being an active member of the HP Support Forums.  I gather that you have ePrint jobs that are pending and have not printed on your Officejet 8620 printer.
Are the print jobs still pending?  If yes, please try the steps in The HP ePrint Print Job Did Not Print document.  If the print jobs are still stuck after attempting the steps in the ePrint trouble shooting document, please call HP’s Cloud Services at 1-855-785-2777 if you live in the USA/Canada region. • HP Laserjet utility starts and fails to go away after print job

I have an HP Laserjet 1300 hooked to an Airport base station. After the Leopard install (a default, Upgrade install from 10.4.10), I had to re-ADD that printer in the Print & FAX Preferences panel -- it wasn't simply remembered. That went fine, and printing works as expected.
EXCEPT: The HP Laserjet 1300 "utility" application (for managing the print queue) now activates with each print job -- not just when there is a problem such as "out of paper" as before. No problems are actually reported during or after the print job. And when the print job finishes, it doesn't go away. I have to manually Quit it.
I can't find any option to have the "utility" activate only when it has some problem to report (i.e., the way it worked under Tiger), or to make it go away automatically when all print jobs are finished. Any suggestions?
NOTE: When ADDing the printer in the Print & FAX utility, it did go looking for "new drivers", but didn't announce it found or installed anything new.

Thank you. That's what I was looking for:
Right click on the printer utility icon in the dock when you see it still sitting in there. Select "Auto Quit" from the pop up menu. Click on the utility to select it and open its queue window. Manually quit the utility.
After those steps it appears the utility now activates in the dock and then goes away after each print job that finishes normally.
    Solved!

  • How to Capture print jobs and Data with WIN32 API?

My organization has about 5 network printers and copiers to which a computer can print. What I'd like to do is build, if possible, a simple JAVA program to intercept what the users are printing (from any application) and capture certain information about the print jobs before it gets sent off to the specified printer.
For example, when a user selects print from the menu in MS Word, and after the Ok button is pressed on the printers dialog window, have my program then pop up asking the user to fill in specific information (who they want to charge for the print job...this is typically an internal billing code, etc.).
The program would have to capture the name/driver of the printer users are printing to, the document they printed, number of pages, number of copies, date/time, etc.
Is/are there Windows API's to help in my programming of this application? I've been, unsuccessfully, searching MSDN, web sites, etc. on how to intercept/detect a print job. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks ahead of time...

    Hi,
Printing is nothing to do with database transaction. SP will not apply here. You may only try SDK.
    Thanks,
    Gordon

  • Filter print job - remove form feed

I've configured an iPrint printer to accept LPR print jobs. One of our old

Is there a simple way to intercept the print stream and if it starts with a

  • HP ePrint Home&Biz app not working. Print job failure:busy message appears on tablet

I have an HP Laserjet P1102W and am trying to print from a Viewsonic tablet (android OS) using the HP ePrint Home&Biz app.  I can send an email to the printer via the tablet and it prints the document with no problems.
I apologize in advance for the long message...
If I try and hit the PRINT key on the lower bar (which says 'HP Laserjet Professional P1102W (NPI7...host name), all that happens is blue & green LED's come on, green, blue flashes, green, blue flashes, green, blue flashes, then green and blue stay on steady.  Just before the blue and green come on steady at the end, the "print job failure:busy" message flashes on my tablet.
I assume the sequence of LED flashes is the HP printer receiving a print command 3 times and can not perform the task because the printer thinks it is busy.
After searching for this problem on the net, it would appear I am not the only person with this issue.  And yes, I have tried powering down my modem, printer, PC, and tablet and restarting all the above.  Not that the PC has anything to do with it, but I am desperate.
Does anyone have a viable working solution to this problem???

Thanks for the post.  With this one, there is a firmware update available for the printer, and I've included a link below that with some excellent steps to check regarding this issue.  Good Luck!

  • HP Envy 4500 All in One - Printer Error - not finishing print job / non-specific error code

Help - my new HP ENVY 4500 AIO (less 3 months old) has never completed a print job if it is over 1 page. I'm connected wirelessly, and not sure if there is an interruption in the wireless connection or if this is defect in the  printer. I receive a message "Printer Error - HP ENVY cancelling print job" and that's it. It will usually happen when it's on the last page of a small print job or half way thru a large (10+ page) of a print job.  Any suggestions? I've downloaded HP Print/Scan Dr - it didn't find any issues.

I had the same issue. Got in contact with HP customer service and the first person that helped had no idea how to fix it.  Got in contact with someone else and they found the issue right away. I had it connected through the wrong port.
First find out what the IP address of your printer is. You can do this by pressing the small wifi button on the front of your printer and it will show the IP address.
Then what you'll have to do is go to the start menu of your computer and search for "Devices and Printers".
Click that and a screen will open. Look for your printer an right click.
Click "Printer Properties" and a new screen will open.
Along the top you will see a few tabs. Click the one that says "Ports"
    Click "Add Port"
Highlight "Standard TCP/IP Port" by clicking on it, then click "New Port"
    A new screen will open.
    Click "Next"
Type in the IP Address of your printer and click "Next"
After that your computer should find your printer.
Click finish and you should be all set.
    Hope this helps.
