Print management and billing (client only)?

Is there an easy (and inexpensive if I may add) solution for managing print jobs in a Mac OSX environment (all Leopard)?
I would like to be able to track print jobs by client (architecture studio) and then be able to bill them.
Our setup is:
3 iMacs (Intel)
2 MacPro (PPC)
1 MBP (intel)
1 MB (intel)
1 MacMini (intel)
2 TimeCapsules
On the printer side:
1 HP Plotter
1 Panasonic Workio
2 smaller printers
All printers except 1 (USB and shared with the rest) are connected directly to the LAN (switch).
Even if there are some printers (the "2 smaller printers") that cannot be tracked I don't care. Most important for me would be to have a SW on each computer where the user can assing a "code" to each print job. These codes can then be collected.
HP seems to offer something similar but, for some reasons, the user, when printing with ArchiCAD 12, is not recognized by the printer itself, making it useless...

tools > Pykota probably best choice. (US$25)
others:
applications >
accsnmp
CUPS filter quota and log 1.0
lpdacc 1.0
phpprintanalyzer 1.1
printanalyzer
It seems to me that one way to use the simplest of these, which analyze the CUPS page_log, is to implement a policy within the company that workers must log in to a separate Username for each project - then accounting is easy because the programs identify pages by Usernames.
Good luck.

    Hi Jeff,
Appreciate your suggestion. My intention was also to post it in the right forum but i could not find any forum for Oracle Revenue Management and Billing, since its a new product.
Its for such new products that we need help and support. Let me know if you are aware of any such forum. That would be great help indeed.

  • KDE Printer Manager fails with "client-error-bad-request"

I'm having some trouble with printing on my system. The KDE printer manager shows "client-error-bad-request" and no other information. When I run the KCM from the command line, I also get "kcmshell(17286) KCupsRequest::serverError: status unrecognised:  1024" on the console. I wasn't able to find any useful information on this issue on google or these forums; not even what the 1024 status code means. It seems to me that this may be a bug in the kcm_printer_manager module, but I'd like to rule out other possibilities first. Unfortunately, I don't know what to try from here. I'll provide as much potentially relevant information as I can think of below.
Changes since last successful print job:
    Multiple updates to KDE packages
Update to cups that changed systemd unit file names.
    Stopped and disbled old units
    daemon-reload
    Enable and start new units
Other updates to cups since then, if I recall correctly.
    Packages and versions:
    kdeutils-print-manager 4.14.3-1 (owns kcm_printer_manager module for kcmshell4)
    kdebase-runtime 4.14.3-1 (owns kcmshell4 binary)
    cups 2.0.1-1
    libcups 2.0.1-1
    systemd 218-1
    linux 3.17.6-1
Let me know if any other information might be helpful.

    Anyone please help.

  • Print services and linux clients

    Hi,
I'm installing a Windows Server 2012R2 as a printer server. It must give support to all kind of clients (windows, os x and linux).
Then, I must use event id 307 and 805 to count printed pages.
My question is related with event 307 and linux clients. I'm asking linux users to configure their CUPS to connect using samba printer, for example, \\server\printer001 but when I check event id, I get no file name (Remote Downlevel Document), and most important,
I get 0 printed pages in param8. I did some testing using IPP, but I were not able to configure a printer in linux (couldn't manage to make linux clients to validate with their domain user account when using IPP). I tried configuring printer on server to render
jobs in server with no luck. Tried PS drivers just in case it was easier to CUPS to send info to server, but no luck either.
So, basically, is there any way to configure server (or linux client) so I get page count in event 307 in printservice? If I must configure IPP printing, how may clients configure their printers to validate using domain accounts?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    Sorry for delaying in reply.
Linux clients see page count. I've paused printing and checked some documents. Property page from a linux client document shows as this:
Documents sent from windows clients show same but they've document name and page count.
SPL archive copied from spooler printer on Windows server shows that info is present too:

  • Print Tasks and header information only in QN

    Hi All,
Is there a way to print Notification Tasks only?  For example the business sometime wants to print only the items in the notification and sometimes only the Tasks as the customers dont need to see all items or all tasks in the notification. Standard prints all information in the notification. There is also option available to print by item in the standard SAP but not by tasks.
    What are my options here?
Can I input something in the screen area config to allow this kind of requests?
Why does SAP print all the details in the notification ?
    Regards,
    Naik

    QCC0--->Quality notificaiton->Notification processing-->print control->define shop papers ,forms->Define Shop Papers->there are std papers like  " 5999 :-Rejection report     RQQMRB01     which is using form "QM_COMPLAIN"
you can customize your own form with desired feilds and attach to a paper.
now in same thread there is "Assign Shop Papers to Notification Type" where you can assign that paper !!
I hope you will manage to get the task & header through various table from QN.

  • Print migration and old eDir object assoc. to manager

I did a print migration from NW 6.5 SP7 to OES 2 SP1 linux. It said it completed but with errors. On first look, everything seemed fine. But now I found that if I manage the Print Manager and go into Printer Agents --> Tasks and look at the 'edir object name' some of the printers have the old printer name (i.e. printer_nw.printers.company). There were 21 printers migrated in this run and 4 have the _nw objects assigned to them. If I try to manage those printers I get an error saying "Invalid Object: The selected object is not a valid type for this property book. ". Whilst, the other printers (without the _nw) are fine. Also, I looked it consoleone all of the new printer objects have been created. It just seems that the manager has the old edir names assigned to some printers.
I know I can just recreate those printers and thatd care of it, but Id rather not. Is there any way to change the "edir object name" in the manager that points to the printers?
    Thanks!

    hi,
In iprint migration in order to create the iPrint Printer Object in the
same context we have to rename the existing object. Sometime it happens
that when we have renamed the objects and if you login to iManager
iPrint Manager Print Manager it still shows the Older printer object.
This is a typical problem of eDirectory not syncronized with other
replicas. May if you would wait all the printer which you would have
tried migrting would have been renamed to _nw in the same container.
Please try migrating and ensure your replicas are in sync. It will work.
The newer iPrint printer agent would have been created on the same
    container.
    thanks

  • Print servers for 30 client Mac Mini Lab

I have a 30 client Mac Mini lab with printing done by 2 networked HP Officejet 8600+ printers w/ 128mb memory.  I would like to have a print server that will speed up the printing(kindergarteners can be impatient).  A dozen years or so ago there were separate print servers that managed print requests and gave you only 1 queue to keep track of, but I haven't found one lately for 10.5.  Will simply routing print requests to our current document server(PowerMac, Intel 2, 500gb) and giving it the 8600s' IP addresses give me the speed boost I need?

Okay, I have been able to recreate the error message by changing the Security Options for the Windows print queue (located in Properties > Ports > Configure Port). By default, the printer queue is set to use an anonymous account for the connection. When I changed the setting to use the "Windows logon name and password", I would get the error "Returning IPP client-error-not-authorized for Print-Job". This message was found in the cups error log, the print queue did not show an error - simply the job would not appear in the print queue and therefore there was no print.
The only problem I then encountered was when I changed the setting back to use the anonymous account, the error continued to occur - again only showing in cups. The only way I could resolve this was to delete the Windows queue, reset the printing system on the Mac and re-add the Canon printer (in my case an iP6000D). Then when I added the printer again on Win7 using the Bonjour Printer Wizard, I was able to print without error.
So, I suggest you first check that the anonymous account is being used on the Vista PC. If it is, then remove the Windows queue and reset the printing system on the Mac. To reset the printing system, Control-click on the Print & Fax > Printer list and select the reset pop-up. This will delete the Mac queue but not the driver. Now you can add the printer again on the Mac and once that is complete, go back to the PC and add the printer again.
One final note. My printer is using v10.26.x of the Canon driver. Version 10.19 was part of the default 10.6.0 install and can be updated to the same v10.26 by downloading the Canon Printer Driver Update v2.2.

  • Printers undeployed by GPO print management keep reappearing!

I would really appreciate some help as this is causing major issues. I initially tried deploying printers via print management to the Terminal Servers and it didn't work out. Many printing defaults would not propogate to the Terminal Servers and there was
no known fix. I went through the steps of undeploying them through print management and let it run overnight.
When we log on to the TS', they seem to slowly start coming in. I can delete them but then they'll reappear when GP updates. I cannot get rid of them. Again, it was based on computer config, not user config (if that makes a difference). I need to know how
to get rid of them permanently please. I've read other forums/threads about removing the GP/OU entirely but I cannot do that so I assume it's a reg key somewhere that I need to delete. Does anyone know? I beg you to please not redirect me to other threads
and forums as I've spent almost 35 hours doing that already and they either don't apply or do not work.

    Hi Lynnette74,
Firstly, please run the command Gpupdate /force to apply the GPO settings on  the problematic client. Then, please run the command
Gpresult /h > C:\temp\gpresult.html  (“C:\temp\” is the path of the gpresult.html, you can set it yourself) on the problematic client to check if the GPO which configured printers still applies.
In addition, it would be helpful if you could collect the following information:
Do all the clients or only some clients have the issue?
How did you set the GPO which configured the printer?

  • Is the print server over-writing client printing preferences with defaults?

I'm testing a new 2012 R2 print server, and have set the printing defaults by clicking on the printer in Print Management and 'set defaults'.  I used this to set things like double-sided printing etc.
When the printers are added to the test client workstations (manually, not by group policy), we then have to add in some details in printing preferences to authenticate that client to the printer.  A valid access code, and print mailbox that tally with
the same settings on the printer.  It's tedious, but that's what our current printers demand.
What's happening with the new 2012 R2 print server in testing is that it seems to be overwriting these authentication preferences and returning all the printing preferences to the defaults set on the print server.
It's likely that this is a feature or setting that I'm just not aware of, could anyone tell me please how to set those printing preferences as 'first time' preferences that can then be edited on the workstation, and persist?

Would you know of any resource where I could learn all the ins and out of printer management in 2012? A blog/a book/MVA course?
I assume you are using the General tab of the printer properties , then clicking Preferences to set the
Users defaults with the device specific data.
There are two ways to open up the Printing Preferences dialogue for shared printers that I'm aware of.
Open the Print Management console, open the print server, and printers.  (1) Right Click on the printer and Set Printing Default or (2) Right Click on the printer, Properties, then from General Tab click Preferences.
Do changes made via both of those routes have the same affect regarding default settings that are given to the client or is there a difference between them?
I have been using method (1) above, but if there's any difference I'd be interested to know.
When it comes to adding the printers to the clients, there are also two options.  (A) Control Panel, Printers, Add Printer, and add from directory.  (B) In Windows Explorer, browse to the print server and double click the printer name to connect
    it.
Is there any difference between those two routes?  I had been using method (B), and then editing the preferences... when then seemed to be overwritten by the server defaults.  Yesterday I used method (A) and so far the printing preferences for
the test clients have not yet been overwritten.

  • Lightroom 2.6 Print Manager Will Not Print

I am running Windows XP, LR 2.6, and printing to a HP z3100 Designjet printer, using HP Print manager.
    Problem:
I send a print to the LR Print Manager, then I can watch the print file appear in the the Windows Print Manager screen, then the file just vanishes.
The print never arrives at the printer.
Tests I Successfully Tried - to see if it is either the printer or the HP Print Manager:
I can print the same photo in Photoshop PS4 and it will print; and I can open the Windows Print Manager screen and send a test print to the printer and it works.
    > Concluding that it is not the printer, the HP Print Manager, or the Windows Print Manager - and it prints in Photoshop.
So this is strictly a LR 2.6 bugaboo.
    Solutions I tried:
Deleted and reinstalled the HP Print Drivers and Print Manager -- did not work.
Changed photos, and sizes, "application managed printing", "printer managed printing" == Nada!
I am out of ideas.  This is the first time I've tried to print since I loaded the 2.6 update.
    Any solutions???

Well, after updating fingerprint manager pro it is now launching and working flawlessly, not sure why, or what simply updating the software changed in terms of permissions/accessability but it works, so im happy.
Feel kinda silly not doing the obvious first but thank you for the help, much appreciated.

  • Lion server printer management.

Lion Server no longer has printer management and I believe CUPS has the ability to set quotas.  Has anyone found a way to do this for open directory users?  Possibly a terminal script can run at login that sets a quota for each user?

What's more important/relevant is the Page In/Out rates.
If these are low (or zero) then you have nothing to worry about - the server simply doesn't need more memory, and it's not swapping to disk.
Most background tasks take way less memory than forground/GUI tasks, so it's not unreasonable to think this could run in 4GB.

  • My problem is that after printing the first photo or picture, when I come to print a second, both the Colour Management and Epson Colour Controls are greyed out and showing No Colour Management

I have recently purchased a Mac computer (updated to Maverick) to go with my Epson Stylus Photo RX500 printer which has given excellent service with my old Windows computer. However, when trying to print pictures or photos via Photoshop Elements 11, the best results I can get are using the Colour Management and Epson Colour controls in the printing options box.
My problem is that after printing the first photo or picture, when I come to print a second, both the Colour Management and Epson Colour Controls are greyed out and showing No Colour Management, The only way I can reset the controls is to shut down the printer and computer and restart.
Could there may be a setting somewhere that I need to adjust please?  I have been in touch with Epson and they say that the Epson Colour controls are part of the Photoshop Elements software but a post on the Adobe forum brought no results and I am unable to contact Adobe.
    <Edited by Host>

Hello Garry. Thanks for the reply. I guess I should have used a different title from "How do I post a question?" That should come after trying to resolved the colour settings first. However, to answer your question, after experimenting with all the different settings in Photoshop Elements and Epson software, I now start with PSE11 Colour settings then click "no colour management" then after clicking Print, I choose "More Options/Colour Management/Colour Handling/Printer Manages Colour" then I choose "Page Setup/Layout/Colour Matching" which then shows Epson Colour Controls but I also choose "Layout/Colour Management" which then shows "Colour Controls/Mode" I then of course choose an Epson printer profile depending on the paper I am using. I get good results but as I said, the Colour Matching and Colour Controls are then greyed out. Hope that makes sense.

I have 2 Laserjet P1102w that work fine printing through USB.  However, I was hoping this printer could become the standard wireless printer for individual users in the office.  I have setup 2 different printers wirelessly with their own static, reserved IP addresses and they are connected to our wireless access point (WPA).  We have  all laptops that are connected to the network via the same access point as well as through hard wired ethernet.  In all cases, they are on the same subnet.
Once I connect any laptop to one of these printers wirelessly through either the "smart install" client or the latest regular installation exe off of HP's site, it will print fine initially.  However, whenever I undock the laptop or even just wait a few hours, the connection will be lost and I cannot print.  The queue just says "Error - Printing" when I print sometihng.  No errors in the logs.  The connection will come back if I turn off the printer and turn it back on.  This is very annoying and will probably not be acceptable to the users.
So I wanted to do more testing and connected both printers to my laptop wirelessly and made sure they could print successfully.  I opened 2 command windows and ran a ping -t on each IP address to see at what point the connection dies.  The ping will reply until I undock and go from hard wired / wireless to just wireless.. then it will say "Destination unreachable" and I can't even access the web interface. Even if I redock to hard wired / wireless, I still can't print unless I restart the printer.
This happens on 2 different laptops with 2 different p1102w printers.  Any clue as to what's going on here and how I can fix it?
    Edit:
If I have both wireless and nic enabled, once I undock the laptop, the ping -t changes from replying to the ip of the printer, to replying to the address of the wireless adapter with "Destination host unreachable".
    For example:
    IP of printer: 192.168.2.95
IP of wireless adapter on laptop: 192.168.2.25
    ping 192.168.5.95
    Reply from 192.168.2.95
    Reply from 192.168.2.95
    *undock"
Reply from 192.168.2.25 Destination Host Unreachable
Reply from 192.168.2.25 Destination Host Unreachable
This does not happen if I disabled the nic and run only off the wireless card.  So the workarounds are to either turn the printer off and back on if I undock every time, or disabled the nic.
At this point, I just want to understand why it is like this?

Mowaffaq, you may want to determine whether you are making those changes in the master printing preferences (versus the adjusting the session printing preferences from within your application).
Click "Start", click "Printers and Faxes" (or "Devices and Printers"), right-click your printer, and select "Printing Preferences". On the "Paper/Quality" tab, you should be able to specify A4 as your default paper for all future print jobs.
    Hope that helps.
