Print Management Software

We are stating to look into some Print Management software mostly Uniflow from Canon. I was hoping to get some ideas of what software does this well and how the implementation was. Also was there really a cost saving.
Features we are looking into.
One printer Driver for multiple printers
Ability top hold print jobs
Secure print from keycard or pin
AD integration.

  • Best Print Management Software

    Hi,
I work in a school and to be quite blunt people are taking the michael with printing and it is costing the school a fortune in ink and toners.
This is something that I really want to control. I have tried setting up print quoats but this just doesn't seem to want to work.
I was wondering if there are any dedicated pieces of software on the market that would allow me to control printing accros the school?
    Many thanks,
    Nick

  • OSX vs XP method of printer management?

I currently have XP and have been looking at Mac for a long time. I find myself in need of a laptop and thought I would try a MacBook Pro.
I have a question about printer management. I HATE THE WAY XP DOES IT!!
Here is what I hate: When you use four or five different printers, you frequently end up printing to the wrong one. Windows can only have one default printer at a time. I wish each program could have a default printer setting.
For instance, I print from Photoshop to my Epson R1800 98% of the time, rarely wanting to print anywhere else. I print to my Xerox Phaser from InDesign most of the time. (InDesign will save printer choice and settings with the document)
When I print an envelope from my Word Processor, I only print to my HP4 with the envelope feeder. I find myself changing the default printer several times a day some days.
Sorry to rant about XP, but please tell me that Macs have a better way of doing this.
    Thanks,
    Kirk

    Thanks for the answers.
One click and you select the printer.
All the available printers are listed right there.
Sounds pretty much like XP. I don't like the one default printer for all programs scheme.
A few programs that I have seen have a default printer setting built into the options, like the UPS Worldship software, where you can set up two different default printers that can both be different from the system default. It seems silly that each program has to write their own custom printer setup to enable different printers automatically from different applications, this should be written at the OS level.
I was hoping that OSX would be much different than XP in this matter.

  • PLUG-INS not always loading - - Coupon Printer Manager plugin has crashed

    ''dupe of https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/914197''
I am running Windows XP SP3 and all updates are current.
For weeks, running 7.0.1, 8.0.1 or 9.0.1, whenever I try to print coupons at the www.coupons.com website, I have difficulty and consistently I receive the following Firefox ERROR message...
"The Coupons Inc. Coupon Printer Manager plugin has crashed"
...and I always SUBMIT a REPORT to Mozilla.
This website is suppose to invoke the following plug-ins...
Coupons Inc., Coupon Printer Manager 4.0.1.3
Coupons Inc., Coupon Printer Manager 4.0.0.7
...and using Task Manager I watch to see if the Image column shows one or two plug-ins appear - of course, I don't know which ones - see below for additional info. Most of the time only one plug-in appears and then the website asks me to INSTALL the software (again). When two plug-ins appear (again, I do not know which), things run okay for the first coupon - however around 50% of the time I am unable to print a second, third, etc, coupon.
Regarding add-ons, I have the following:
    PLUG-INS
Coupons Inc., Coupon Printer Manager 4.0.1.3
Coupons Inc., Coupon Printer Manager 4.0.0.7
    Java Deployment Toolkit 6.0.300.12 6.0.300.12
    Java Platform SE 6 U30 6.0.300.12
    QuickTime Plug-in 7.7 7.7.0.0
    Shockwave Flash 11.1.102.55

    Adblock Plus 2.0.3
    Free Download Manager plugin 1.5.5
    APPEARANCE
    FOXSCAPE 4.01
    Default 9.0.1 (disabled)
I have disabled each of these add-ons to see if anything improves, but nothing does. This does not surprise me since I have been running the same ADD-ONS for months and this problem has only started happening over the past few weeks.
I have uninstalled the Coupon Printer plug-ins, scrubbed my Registry, and then reinstalled them (with FF closed, as well as opened, of course), and that does not help either.
Sure would like to RESOLVE this FF problem.
I am wondering if there's a PLUGINS setting that needs tweaking, and on that note, I have tried setting...
    dom.ipc.plugins.java.enabled
...to TRUE (where default is false) and that does not help either.
The following screen shot shows my about:config / plugin details > http://tinypic.com/r/10dv3v7/5
Hopefully, others have experienced the same problem and found a workaround or fix.
    Thanks,

Sorry, a resolution isn't going to easily or come from Mozilla.
4 out of 5 of those crashes were directly caused by the Coupons, Inc. Coupon Printer DLL = npMozCouponPrinter.dll
The developer of that plugin is going to have to fix it. Contact the Coupon website to find out how to report a bug with that plugin.

  • Prints Managed By Aperture Too Dark/Red; Printer Managed Match Display

I did a Startpage.com search and found this archived discussion: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1378192?start=0&tstart=0. It has lots of suggestions but before I tried any I did a little experiment: I told Aperture 3 to allow the printer software to manage the color.
The result: the print essentially matches my display. The Aperture-managed print is too red and dark. Go Figure...
I'm trying to understand why Aperture is botching the print job while the HP software gets it spot-on. Theoretically the Aperture color-managed prints should be better than the HP software-managed prints.
My hardware: Mac Mini and 10.8.3. HP Photosmart 8450 printer. NEC 2490WUXi2 display. I am using the stock NEC display profile because it is so darn good. My option is software calibration but nothing I have created has come close to the NEC profile. I have checked the NEC profile against various online display checkers and it looks good, so I see no reason to invest in hardware calibration. sRGB images exported from Aperture for Web use look good too.
When using Aperture 3 "Printer Managed" color management is automatically disabled. I select the proper HP paper profile. The image looks good on the display. The print looks not so good...
When using "Printer Managed" the only automatic setting that I had missed in the HP software was automatic sharpening; I'm going to disable it and see what happens. The only thing I change is the color setting from sRGB to Adobe RGB 1998. Otherwise I stick with the correct paper profile, select "Best" or "Maximum DPI" and hit print.
I would say that my test image is challenging to reproduce: skintones, light blonde hair, deep red/purple color in the clothes.
It's been a while since I printed from Photoshop CS3 but prints managed by that application look fine. I also use Nikon Capture NX2 but I don't recall using it to print. I'm going to test it later.
Any thoughts/feedback? At this point it looks like I should just stick with using the HP printer software. But the question remains: Why are the Aperture prints sub-par? Is it me or is it Aperture?

Honestly, it's probably your calibration.  Saying it "looks good" with the software profile is completely subjective.  If you don't measure the display, it's all guesswork.
Aperture can print fine, with its drivers.  You do have to ensure you're not double color correcting (i.e. Aperture AND the printer drivers, which will double down the adjustments and make things look bad), but if you have stuff set up right and colors are bad, then you really can't go to step 2 without doing a hardware calibration.

  • Lightroom 2.6 Print Manager Will Not Print

I am running Windows XP, LR 2.6, and printing to a HP z3100 Designjet printer, using HP Print manager.
    Problem:
I send a print to the LR Print Manager, then I can watch the print file appear in the the Windows Print Manager screen, then the file just vanishes.
The print never arrives at the printer.
Tests I Successfully Tried - to see if it is either the printer or the HP Print Manager:
I can print the same photo in Photoshop PS4 and it will print; and I can open the Windows Print Manager screen and send a test print to the printer and it works.
    > Concluding that it is not the printer, the HP Print Manager, or the Windows Print Manager - and it prints in Photoshop.
So this is strictly a LR 2.6 bugaboo.
    Solutions I tried:
Deleted and reinstalled the HP Print Drivers and Print Manager -- did not work.
Changed photos, and sizes, "application managed printing", "printer managed printing" == Nada!
I am out of ideas.  This is the first time I've tried to print since I loaded the 2.6 update.
    Any solutions???

Well, after updating fingerprint manager pro it is now launching and working flawlessly, not sure why, or what simply updating the software changed in terms of permissions/accessability but it works, so im happy.
Feel kinda silly not doing the obvious first but thank you for the help, much appreciated.

  • Data management software

    Hi ladies ´n gents,
i´m looking for a data management software, supporting all types of text, photos, music, video and free tagging.
Something like acdsee for photos, but more universal content. Any idea? Help please.

Jpgs are raster images, and that's what will happen to the text. If you're limited to the file formats described, you could test exporting to eps and converting to wmf or emf
(search online for "eps to wmf" or "eps to emf" converter)
To get the text to look good it needs to stay a vector, so those are your only file options.
Fringe Facts clearly isn't meant for "high end" printing, so I doubt there's a perfect solution. I'll bet you'll have to keep the design fairly basic (no drop shadows or transparencies) to get the files to work. I've never tried to create a wmf or emf file on purpose, so who knows what the final final will look like.

  • Creative Suite CS4: Problems with font managing software

It seems that there are some issues of the applications of the creative suite CS4 with the font managing software MainType (http://www.high-logic.com/maintype.html).
With standard settings, CS4 no longer recognizes PostScript Type 1 Fonts loaded by MainType (which did not occur with CS3 and older versions). The only solution so far is this workaround:  Within MainType enable under "Tools -> Options" the option "Copy Type 1 Postscript fonts to Windows fonts folder" and CS4 will load these fonts again.
This seems to be a bug of CS4. Are there problems with other font managing programs?
    regards
    fabian

After reading tons of forums about this issue, it does seem to be an issue with CS4 not recognizing fonts the way that CS3 did. Wish they had mentioned that little feature when they released it. They even go as far as to say they do not support certain programs for type handling in Windows. Copying them to the system folder is a workaround, but it is not available easily in programs like Extensis' Suitcase, which is long overdue an upgrade. LinoType beta tested a new application for Windows, but when I sent an email to them asking about the release date for the their final version, their ignorant customer support sent me a link to their website pointing out that it is not yet available, and not answering my initial question of when.
I don't entirely blame Adobe, it seems as though a lot of companies have dropped the ball on this issue, and since many people have Type 1 fonts they've been using for years, they will have to repurchase (if available) those fonts in the newer OTF format which everyone seems to support. OTF is a much nicer format and more portable cross-platform, but it's simply inconvenient to not be able to use all of your fonts at your own discretion easily. I'm not sure what the big deal was with not including support for Type 1 fonts, unless that's most of the reason that the Adobe apps were crashing before... corrupt versions of the fonts they talked us into purchasing, etc... Adobe used to make ATM for managing postscript fonts, but it doesn't work on Vista to my knowledge. It would be nice if they would recommend a font manager other than the Windows system folder.
I figure Adobe was hoping that it would not be a major issue since their wonderful PDF format has taken hold for printing. Print shops do not have to install fonts before printing a piece anymore. Most people will read in these forums about the loss of support, throw up their hands and shake their heads, but do nothing about it. After all they too probably purchased the CS4 suite without knowing about this issue and have already spent their money. It doesn't look as though it's an issue on the Mac, but by the time you throw $3000 at an entry level Mac workstation and $1600 at the basic adobe apps, that's not a solution either. Especially when you have to go out and buy all new fonts anyhow, since the macs will not support the Windows postscript typeface formats either.
After doing a little price shopping for typefaces, I'm trying to try to keep using the few OTF and TTF fonts I've purchased since they're still working, since the prices of fonts these days are astronomical. I've installed a few fonts in the system folder, but too many and Acrobat distiller crashes. It's not cost effective to spend all of your income from design on $1600 font family sets, just to make changes to a document where you might have used a postscript face. Especially in this economy... It's another case of the investor getting rewarded for the release of an application and the customer is left holding the bag. Hopefully it's a bug, but not likely. It's probably some mandated decision by the higher ups in Adobe.
I'm sure larger companies with hundreds of employees probably have site licenses for typefaces in the OTF format, so for them it's not a problem, and since most people using PCs to do design opted for that platform because of the cost issue, Adobe probably doesn't care about them either. Maybe a solution will arise in the future, but it doesn't look likely. You will probably have to get the new formats of typefaces one by one.

  • Printer management tool

I recently bought an HP laserjet M1217nfwMFP for an elderly relative as the salesman recommended it as a 'simple to use' machine that would be suitable for inexperienced computer users.
I installed the driver using the CD supplied (great video) but cannot find the printer manager tool. 'Control' of the printer appears to be located in different places i.e. printing via the shortcut icon, scanning via the windows start menu and the shortcut icon/HP website. I would like ONE management tool from where I can correct errors such as the fact that it scans each page separately. I am very disappointed in my purchase as my relative cannot use it. Please help me.

I understand you are unable to use the toolbox option for the m1217 and it scans each page separately.

I'm having some trouble with printing on my system. The KDE printer manager shows "client-error-bad-request" and no other information. When I run the KCM from the command line, I also get "kcmshell(17286) KCupsRequest::serverError: status unrecognised:  1024" on the console. I wasn't able to find any useful information on this issue on google or these forums; not even what the 1024 status code means. It seems to me that this may be a bug in the kcm_printer_manager module, but I'd like to rule out other possibilities first. Unfortunately, I don't know what to try from here. I'll provide as much potentially relevant information as I can think of below.
Changes since last successful print job:
    Multiple updates to KDE packages
Update to cups that changed systemd unit file names.
    Stopped and disbled old units
    daemon-reload
    Enable and start new units
Other updates to cups since then, if I recall correctly.
    Packages and versions:

    kdebase-runtime 4.14.3-1 (owns kcmshell4 binary)
