Print not matching lcd

I have my 5D set to AdobeRGB, I have my PSCS2 working space set to AdobeRGB. I make Layer Adjustments, then print without saving(is saving prior to printing a good idea?). Prints are coming out too dark. I have recently (last 2 weeks) calibrated using Spyder3Suite. Even ACR is set to AdobeRGB.
I have my Epson printer set to allow PSCS2 to do the Color Handling, uh-oh I see the problem, I had the Printer Profile within the Print settings registered at SRGB-IEC61966-2.1. I have just printed another hard proof amd am back to close match.
So after that, the only question I have now is Should I be saving prior to printing? Or would it be better to Flatten the image first?

You don't have to save or flatten before printing, though it's a good idea to save the file so you don't have to repeat the work you've done on it.
The common reason for prints coming out "too dark" is that the monitor is too bright. When your monitor is too bright, you typically adjust your image darker so it looks good on the monitor. Those adjustments are sent along to the printer, and the prints come out dark.
You don't mention what you replaced the sRGB setting with, but the setting in the "Printer Profile" drop-down should be the profile for the paper/printer combination, not a color space like AdobeRGB.

  • Print not matching what's onscreen...

    Hi,
I used the 3d tool on one of the graphics, and it rendered fine onscreen. When I go to print it, it is appearing incorrectly, and transparently - not matching what's on screen. Why might this be?
I experimented with printing from a PDF as well (the PDF also looked fine onscreen). No luck...
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.

can you show a screen shot using the camera icon in the tool bar of the message dialog of this form to attach the screen shot.
The screen shot should show the appearance panel with all fills and strokes expanded, the 3D art and 3D dialog expanded, the transparency panel,
the Layers panel and the anther one with the print dialog.
What might also be good to show is a scan of the printed item.

  • Print not matching screen

    print does not match screen
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Most folks seem to have the monitor brighter than optimum.
I edit my prints in a room with no overhead lighting and use a desk lamp so that no light shines on the monitor. If I put my hand on the monitor surface the back of my hand is dark; no light shinng on it.
    Go to this website: http://outbackprint.outbackphoto.com/printinginsights/pi049/essay.html
and download the test image and see how that prints without making any adjustments. The test file is properly exposed and adjusted for color, so that will tell you if your printer is functioning OK.
I would also suggest you adjust the monitor brightness and contrast to 50% level as a starting point.
The ColorMunki isn't calibrating your printer, its calibrating your monitor.
As a test, adjust your monitor brightness up and down, print an image at each setting, and you will see that all the prints will look exactly the same since you haven't affected the digital file.
Calibrating your monitor sets it to the brightness that will replicate the printer output, so when you adjust an image in your processing software to look how you want on screen you will be sure thats how it will look on paper.
Here are some excerpts from a document that Canon supplies with the Print Studio Pro software.
Since you already have the calibration tool you should definitely use it. It is 30 minutes well spent.
I have the Pro-100, and I can tell you it makes stunning prints.

  • Oversaturated prints not matching Pantone swatch

Head is melting with this HP lazerjet 2550L. Nothing prints as it should or matches Pantone swatches. All my prints are way too intense in colour but the odd thing is that my monitor matches exactly the pantones in the swatch booklet (which is new, not faded). Strangely enough, i have had some test prints done from a repro place and they the colour is the same as my printer! Can't figure out whats goin' on. ANY advice would be great, before i chuck it out the window. Thanks in advance.

Just because the monitor colours are close doesn't mean it is calibrated. I often find it is due to more good luck than proper CMS.
But more importantly when was the printer last calibrated? Does it use an internal visual cal or have you used a densitometer/spectro? And is the printer Pantone certified? A lot of colour LBP's struggle to get anywhere near the output of those ink-based swatches.

  • Color of prints not matching display

I have iPhoto 4.03 and Lexmark Z715 printer. Color on photos displayed in iPhoto is beautiful. When I print a photo, color is shifted towards blue. How can I make prints match the color of display? Thanks.

Colour matching across devices is tricky. Here are a few tips to get you going:
First, you will probably need to recalibrate your monitor. To do this go to Display, click on the Color tab and then click on calibrate. Enable the advanced settings and follow the instructions from there. When asked you should set your target gamma to 2.2 and your white point to native or D65.
Second, are your photos being tagged with the approporiate colour profile on import? Check your iPhoto preferences to see that the option to assign a colour profile on import is checked. This will assign the Camera RGB profile to the file on import. (It would be better if the assigned profile was sRGB but the differences are sufficiently minor with Camera RGB that it doesn't really matter - unless you are shooting in Adobe RGB, which should actually work properly anyway.) To check if your existing photos have been tagged, open one in Preview and 'Get Info'. This will tell you what profile it has (if any has been assigned).
Third, your printer probably has some specific colour profiles that it will use if given the chance. Make sure you use color sync for colour matching when you are choosing printer setup options and that you are selecting the appropriate paper type. You will get a much better output if your paper matches the specifications of the profile - you instruction manual may have detailed information on the included colour profiles. The way a print looks out of a printer depends upon the type of paper you are using. (For example, when I use Canon glossy paper in my Canon printer it looks fine, when I use Kodak glossy paper it has a slight red cast that I need to adjust for.)
Try all this and see if you end up with your output matching what you see on the screen much better.
(With respect to the second point. If your photos are not tagged appropriately, it is best if you 'Assign' the sRGB colour profile to them - assuming you are using a consumer camera rather than a pro camera in Adobe RGB mode. You can do this in Preview or ColorSync Utility or you can enable Applescripts using the Applescript utility and use the 'Assign Specified Color Profile' script to tag them with sRGB. The Applescript route is technically the best but the differences are minor such that it probably doesn't matter which you choose.)

  • Printer not printing AND Matching Screen colors to Print colors.  Any advice is apreciated!!

Hello - I have 2 questions regarding  printing to an Epson and also regarding the monitor colors Not matching the print colors working from Photoshop CS4 on a Mac with a Maverick [ 10.9.3 ] OS. My issues are Not about my own printers or software.  I have been tutoring a friend via phone in Photoshop; he has CS4 and is working on Mac OS 10.9.3.
1- We found that he could print nearly fine [ nearly accurate colors ] from Lightroom on his computer, version 5.4.   But when he tries to print from Photoshop he cannot make a print.   There is clear communication between the computer and the printer, as, when he sent the file to print, the printer [ an Epson 3880 ] responded by automatically changing to Photo Black from Matte.  Then, it opens the rollers as if to print, but, it them stops and the menu [ on the Printer ] says 'Ready.'   The paper is 4x6” Moab Lasal paper 300gsm. This issue of Not printing is only with this Moab Lasal luster paper, for which he Does have the IIC profile, and we always make sure ‘Photoshop manages colors,’ not the printer. To address the issue of the printer Not printing at all using a non-Epson brand paper, we have tried seemingly everything from deleting and re-adding the printer from the Library / Printers, resetting everything [ printer   computer   software etc ], trying different settings in the Printer window and the Print Settings window. Including changing the media profile, platen gap, etc.
2- My other and more important question is – after we Do get a print, we cannot match the monitor color to the print. [ We havE been able to get a print using Epson brand paper.   Which is odd because we have the ICC profiles for both papers ]. To address the color matching issue, he has told me he calibrated the monitor with a Spyder, and here are a few other variables that I can relay that may or may not be affecting his color-issues:
He iS viewing his prints in a dayliglht-rated lighting environment
The monitor is an iMac glossy finish monitor, not an anti-glare
We tried working and printing from both an 8-bit and also a 16-bit color-space and also 16-bit printing
The color shift is slightly but noticeably toward Magenta.
    His printer is Not calibrated
Please let me know what else we can do, any known glitches that may be an issue with his older version of CS, any tips you can suggest.
    Thanks very much!

I don't have that printer and I'm not on Mac, so someone else has to step in there. Generally a green/magenta cast indicates none/double printer color management. But then I don't know what you mean by "slight".
The Spyders aren't the most consistent and reliable calibrators out there. I had a Spyder 3 sensor that I just threw away because it gave a distinct red cast (I have several other calibrators, so there was no doubt). Another potential problem is that with most calibrators you can only adjust the white point along the blue/yellow Kelvin scale, but not on the green/magenta scale. This is often necessary to get a good white point color. In this case you need to use the monitor's OSD controls, and if possible the "pre-calibration" function in the calibrator to measure and monitor it - if that function exists. And I don't know if this is possible with an iMac.
This is basically a question of getting the white point right, both on the blue/yellow and the green/magenta axis (and luminance of course). The goal is to get a visual match to paper white on screen. With the white point properly set, neutral color balance relates to that, and the rest more or less follows by itself. (In addition you should set the proper black point/contrast for full control, but that's not the issue here).

  • Report serial number printed and serial number detected do not match

The serial number provided by the Printer Status Report and the serial number provided by the "Auto Scan and Find" feature off the web site do not match where the scan detected one removed the last 4 characters. Is this known to the firmware folks that generate the report?  Firmware version = ELM1CN1320AR for an HP Photosmart 7520 series.

    Hi depineault,
Yes, HP is aware of this. If ever call HP or want to check your warranty online, you would need to use the 10 digit serial number not the 14 digits. If you look on the back of the printer you would see a sticker with the 10 digit number there too.
    Check your product warranty
Is there a reason you were looking for the serial number? Is there something I can help you with?

  • Colors in print preview not matching colors in soft proofing

    Hi There,
Just wanted to print a new photo and realized that the colors in print preview do not match the colors in soft proofing. In both cases I selected the same icc profile and rendering method. The print colors matched the colors in print preview. I never had a problem so far. All new prints will be checked with soft proofing and adjusted when necessary. I never paid attention to the color rendition in print preview and all prints perfectly matched the colors from the soft proofing. I was surprised when my print came out of the printer and the colors weren't matching the soft proofing colors, but that of the print preview.
I don't understand why Photoshop renders the colors differently in the first place. Please see attached screenshot for the difference in the blue/cyan colors.
I would appreciate if anybody could point me in the right direction in what is causing this difference. I don't care if the print view colors will match the print, but I do care when soft proofing is not working.
    Thank you.
    Best regards,
    D.

    Here are some addtional details:
    PS 13.1.2
    Mac OS X 10.8.4
    12 GB Ram
    60 GB free disk space
I printed the same photo from two other computers (MacBook and iMac) with different PS versions (CS4 and CS5). The prints turned out identical to the first one which matches the print preview color rendition on my main computer (MacPro) running CS6. Strangely the colors in print preview of CS5 on the iMac renders the colors identical to the soft proofing colors.

  • Color does not match printing in preview

Printing a photo directly from iPhoto ('08) does not match the color on screen. Using an Epson 2200.
The colors are dark and saturated. Maybe the problem is setting color management in the advanced dialog box- I have it set to: "No Color Adjustment" as per Epson.
Is there a setting that is recommended? I can't find any help in help.
I'm well aware of color management problems printing via Photoshop with the Epson printer.

    Hi McJPP,
You're using one of the built in color setups for Photoshop, so no big deal there. Since you have your monitor properly calibrated and profiled, ColorSync shouldn't be having an issue handling the difference between the image's color space and your monitor's. Questions though. Is the image RGB? Does it have an embedded profile? If so, is it Adobe RGB 1998? I'm assuming that it does since that's your working RGB color space in Photoshop.
The grab on the left is the preview copy using:
By preview, do you mean the Preview button on the print dialogue box at the bottom left next the the PDF button? I'm guessing yes since I can produce the same kind of result. It's a bit hard to explain, but I'll try.
I took a simple grayscale image and made it RGB. I then did the same thing you did. Left image is Photoshop handling color for an Epson Stylus Pro 4000, using a profile I made for a DuPont paper. Then clicking the Preview button when the print dialogue comes up. Right image is letting the printer handle color and clicking Preview. The result is below.
Believe it or not, there's nothing wrong. Photoshop (more accurately, ColorSync) is showing you what it had to do to the pixel color values to adjust for how the inks perform on the chosen paper. The end result, with proper profiles, is that the printed image looks like what you see in Photoshop regardless of how it shows in Preview mode. The Epson driver doesn't make this visible cue even though you've turned ColorSync on there, so it simply shows you the same thing you see in Photoshop, even though it's making the same adjustment to the pixel color values.
You should get essentially the same final output no matter which way you print the image.

  • Monitor and printer colours not matching!

Hi, when I print, the colours do not match my monitor! Using CS6.

There's no easy answers here, you have to read up on color mangementnt, calibration and all that stuff. Start by reseting any color tweaks to factory defaults on your monitor and printer. Beyond that it's a topic peopel write books about and nobody can answer this in two simple sentences. Scour the print-centric forums for Illustrator, Photoshop and InDesign for some posts from the past that offer basic guidance and research the topic on a more generic level with a web search.

  • Officejet Pro 8625 Photo print colors not matching monitor!

I just purchased this Officejet Pro 8625 yesterday and while I love many of it's features, I noticed that when printing photos the prints come out very dark and even a bit 'muddy" ie they not only do not match what I see on my Samsung monitor, but they are not really even close. I have used an HP officejet 7310xi for many years...and photos printed from that have been nearly always true to the original photo files/monitor appearance.
I have already run all the printing tests, and they all actually look fine other than Test #1 from the Print Diagnostic page...so calibrated the linefeed. The print heads are clean, etc. I spent over an hour on the phone with tech support early this morning and no resolution...so I am at a loss here as to why the color is so off. The tech told me that the ink cartridges that come with the printer might be the issue, but I don't understand why that would be the case if it's authentic HP ink.
I am using good glossy photo paper and have tried several settings, and printing from both within Photoshop Elements 11 with the RGB color settings, and from PSP 9, as well as without going through any editing program. Nothing has helped.
Before I give up and return this printer (because while I need it for faxing and other functions, I also need photo prints that at least come close to what my monitor shows), I'm hoping someone here might have some ideas.
The tech and I did download the most recent drivers/software from the HP website as the software on the included cd was actually not the most recent.
    Thank you!

My suggestion about using the onboard USB is to rule out both the USB & WiFi ports.
If printing from the 8625 USB port produces the same results then you may have a defective printer.
Have you also tried printing a sample image that is not yours? (using the O/S image program)

  • Print Res Unchecked, Image does not match native resoltuion

Many of my images already have their resolution and height/width dimensions set in PS. My understanding is that when the print resolution checkbox is unchecked in LR, then the image should be at its native resolution and size and will print the same size as when printed from PS.
However, I find that when I uncheck the resolution checkbox, the image size as shown in LR Print module does not match the native resolution and size. For example a psd file in PS CS3 shows an image size of 16 x 10.25 @ 200 ppi. In LR the same image shows a print size of 15.3 x 9.81 @ 209 ppi. I have checked both tif and psd files, and similar discrepancies exist.
I wonder if I am doing something wrong or misunderstanding something? Thanks for your help

That was Page Setup, sorry (which actually opens a Print Setup dialogue, at least on a PC). There you can choose printer and paper size. Then in Layout panel you choose how to arrange the picture(s) within the page, and the combination of the two will determine the print size, right?
Anyway, I believe I understand your concern now, which is about printing at 100% of the size indicated by the TIFF or PSD file, as PS can do. I did not find a way to direct LR to do the same.
The Print Resolution, when unchecked, doesn't behave like you expect. If you check it, LR will re-sample the image to print it at the resolution you indicated there, whatever the output size. If you un-check it, LR will not re-sample the image; still it will re-size it based on your Page Setup and Layour settings, and the printer driver/printer will do the needed re-sampling. At least this is my understanding.

  • Final print size does not match screen view.

    Hi
I am having problems getting my final prints to match the screen view.  Most recently I have had this problem:  I have an image that is sized to 5X7.  I have it on a 5X7 template in the print module of Lightroom.  The image dimensions in Lightroom say 5X7.  I print on 5X7 paper (I actually measured it to be sure).  ON the screen they look perfect, match the the templates and measure out fime with the onscreen rulers.  Without fail a portion of the print is cut off on the final print.  The long side of the print is the most effected.  This is not just limited to 5X7's, it happens across the board.  Is this a common problem or I am I doing something wrong?  In the 5X7 example above the print comes out 5.2 X 7.3 give or take.  I am using Lightroom 5.3 on an iMac running OS 10.9.1.  The printer is a Canon Pro 100.
I welcome any help with this.
    Thank you
    Joe

If the problem is that the printed image is being scaled larger, this is a very common side effect with borderless mode settings in print drivers. Typically, (though sometimes you can prevent this where alternative borderless options are given) - an extra unrequested scaling % ensures that any physical mis-registration or inaccuracy of the paper size, does not leave any accidental white edges.
That's nothing to do with LR's end of the process, if so.
