Print odd even pages of book
I am printing books using Aperture. The only way I have found to do this is:
1. Create Book/Album
2. Duplicate the Book twice (name one: Odd, name other:Even)
3. for Even Copy, delete all content of odd pages (pretty easy to do).
4. For Odd Copy, delete all content of even pages (leave the pages just make them blank).
5. Print Even copy (Blank pages will not be printed - amazingly)
6. Reload Even copy then print Odd copy
Has anyone found an easier way to do this?
Nancy
Hmm, are you sure? Here's a screenshot for an Epson 3880, but would they really have taken away this feature on a later model?
If it is the case that your printer does not have this feature, then hmmm. I guess you'd have to do it the way you are doing it.
Maybe someone else has an easier workflow.

Printing error with odd/even pages
Apologies if this is the wrong group, I looked for a more
appropriate one
but there doesn't seem to be one on this server. If there's a
better place
to ask this question, please let me know.
Anyhow, I'm using Acrobat Reader, latest version (I updated
off the Adobe
site after first noticing the error just to be sure), and I'm
having a
couple of serious bugs when it comes to printing odd-only or
even-only pages
of a multi-page document. (I don't have one of those snazzy
re-feeder
printers that can do both sides, so if I want to print
double-sided I have
to do first one then the other.) At any rate, the problems
are thus: on a
document which has an odd number of pages, if I tell it to
print all
odd-numbered pages, it will invariably skip the first page.
This one's not
that serious, as I can just manually print page 1 after the
fact. The
really annoying problem occurs when I try to print the
even-numbered pages.
What happens in this case is it prints the first page (i.e.
Page 2) *twice*.
Once on the back of page 1 and again on the back of page 3.
Needless to
say, I now have to throw one of them out and redo it. (I've
taken to
printing the even-pages first now, so I can use the backside
of that extra
page 2 for scrap paper, whereas previously the extra sheet
was basically
useless as it was printed on both sides.) The bug does not
seem to occur
with documents that have an even number of pages. Only those
with an odd
number. Doesn't matter if I choose back-to-front or
front-to-back. Doesn't
matter what printer I use, I've tried 3 different ones (and
made sure I had
the latest drivers for each) and it happens in every case.
I'm guessing
that there's some confusion in the software as to the number
of pages it's
supposed to print. If a document has an odd number of pages,
there's one
more odd-numbered page than there are even-numbered pages,
and it's getting
it backwards, printing one more even-numbered page and one
less odd-numbered
page. Anyhow, it's really annoying, and a waste of paper and
ink as well.
Any ideas how to avoid this? (Seriously considering editing
the documents
and adding one blank page to the end of every document with
an odd number,
though it seems like that shouldn't be necessary...)Thank you for your response. These forums are specific to the

Odd/Even pages with data from two tables
Hi Forum,
Can you please extend help/suggest with the following scenario:
I have two data tables and one table records needs to be printed on odd pages (Front page) and the other table records need to be printed on even pages (Back page). I need alternating front and back pages based on data records in the tables. Also second table will be having lesser records when compared with first table.
I'm able to get the alternating Odd/Even master pages. But the first table is being printed in both the odd/even pages first and then the second table is being printed in both the odd/even pages. How can I restrict the printing of the first table on odd page and second table on even page?
Thanks for your help/suggestions.
~MadanYou can play with pagination tab in your LCD tab, but I have never learnt enough to be able to use it effectively.
If I were in your shoes, I would alter the DDIC structures in the backend so you will only display it in the form, without any suicidal actions through the pagination, scripting or similar stuff.
How: If you need to alter pages, you can do that in your backend, right?
Like you can have a structure page with attributes:
- up/ front: data for the front page
- down/back: data for the back page
and you will alter the data in the table with this structure as a line in your ABAP program and will use to form to display the trnaformated data only.
Well... I don´t tell it is clear/right/ proper solution and cannot tell if there are any obstacles which will not let you use this scenario in your case, but you could consider this as an option...

Bates numbering odd even pages on right left sides of page
with acrobat 9 pro is there a way to bates number files with numbers on the right side of the page with
odd numbered pages and on the left side of the page for even numbered pages. when printed and bound into a book would like to have the bates on the outer edge of the pages. Thanks for the link. The following are a couple of quotes pulled from it:
> The rules governing the use of zero appeared for the first time in Brahmagupta's book Brahmasputha Siddhanta, [19] written in 628.
> The Indian numeral system (base 10) reached Europe in the 11th century, via the Iberian Peninsula through Spanish Muslims the Moors, together with knowledge of astronomy and instruments like the astrolabe, first imported by Gerbert of Aurillac. For this reason, the numerals came to be known in Europe as "Arabic numerals". The Italian mathematician Fibonacci or Leonardo of Pisa was instrumental in bringing the system into European mathematics in 1202
I have read several articles and a book (The nothing that is, by Robart Kaplan) on the subject right around the turn of the millenium. I was flabbergasted by the arguments of those that wanted to jump start it a year early.
In the book was a humourous quote of a 14th century European mathematician trying to explain what a zero was exactly and how it was used in simple arithmetic. It seems so obvious to us now that people have a hard time accepting that it wasn't always there. -
Forcing pages to start from odd/even pages
Hi,
I have a book with this kind of documents in it:
1) Cover, starting on an odd page.
2) 2nd of Cover, starting on an even page.
3) TOC, starting from an odd page.
4) Main content, starting from an odd page.
InDesign CS5 lets me define a general setting with Book panel > Book Page Starting Option. However, I don't see any setting to let me force each document/chapter to start from an odd or even page. Is there something like this somewhere?
Without this kind of control, I must choose Continue on the next page as a general rule, with the risk of having some chapters start on the wrong page.
PaoloPeter, I think this is the correct solution. Very easy to do, since the first paragraph of a page that must start on a particular side is usually a "special" paragraph (chapter title, legals, TOC, and so on).
In case the page begins with an illustration, I can try with a hidden paragraph, or a paragraph containing text of the same color of the page.
This is, however, something that InDesign could learn from FrameMaker, whose book documents can start each one from a separate side.

Paper Handling -- Odd Even pages
Printing to Epson C84 being shared via USB Sharing on a G4 Power Mac.
When I print from all applications on my Pismo Powerbook (OS X 10.4.3), even tho' I select to only print Odd pages, all the pages in the range (even and odd) print.
When I select to Preview, I get all pages (odd and even).
This occurs whether I connect direct to the Epson via USB, too.
Ideas?
Pismo Powerbook (also G3 iBook, G4 AGP Mac OS X (10.4.3)You might have better luck if you load the Epson driver directly to your computer.
From my experience, I've never had much luck with the PPD features until I did. -
Hi,
I have a requirement where the body of the report is different for odd and even pages.
I am able to get the requirement done with XSL-FO, but I need it with Microsoft Word Template.
Can any one please suggest on this.
Regards,
G V RanjithFrom what I understand you want to print data on one page and then the terms on the next page?
And you have no idea when the page goes from one to the next?
My first suggestion would be to print the report as you normally would and then turn the paper around and print the T&C
on the back of every page, although I understand that this is obviously not what you want.
Their printer has the feature to print on both sides or do they have to physically turn the report around and put it back into the printer?
Not sure how you would be able to find the difference unless you can somehow count the lines per page and then put in a page break
after a certain amount. According to your needs you would also need to place different header on the first page than the rest of the report.
How far have you got so far? If you want you can email me a copy and I can try play around with it:

How to rotate odd/even pages in opposite directions?
I have a number of pdf documents with more than 1,500 pages. The left pages are rotated 90 degrees left and the right pages are rotated 90 degrees right. Using the Acrobat view and rotate feature, all pages within the document rotate. This makes 'the odd pages 'upright' but the even pages are then 'upside down'.
What is an efficient method to rotate all these pages to an "upright" position that reads 'normally'?
My goal is to covert these into searchable pdf documents using Acrobat Pro XI.FOLLOWUP: Thanks for the suggestions. Hopefully these answers will also help others in the future who face the same dilemma. I had 'jumped the gun' in the respect that I was new to Acrobat and had not discovered the Tools > Pages > Rotate method within the program. That worked perfect on another document that needed to have pages rotated in bulk. Also, I will now investigate the 'coded' method to learn a little more about the capabilities within Acrobat. Thanks again!

Modify "object layer properties" on all odd/even pages based on...
Hello,
looking for a script to modify the "object layer properties" of placed .indd files.
Ideal, a script wich runs on all even pages (based on master B), and sets the object layer options to layer1 visible/2 invisble.
and on the odd pages: layer1 invisible/2 visible...
don't know where to start...
If there are some freelance scripters on the forum?
grts!!!I'm looking for someone to write it for me.
Are you an experienced indesign scripter?
We very often need indesign scripts...wich language do you use?

I need a page numbering trick if there is one for what i want to do, please.
I have a 120pg flip chart that needs to be numbered. I need the numbering to go as follows
Page 1 would be Page 1
Page 2 would not have a page number
Page 3 would be Page 2
Page 4 would not have a page number
Page 5 would be Page 3
Page 6 would not have a page number
etc...
Any advice on how to do this? Thanks in advance for any help with this.Hmmm, did you leave the old pagenumboxes on the pages from the last time you ran the script? If possible, just revert the document to before you ran the script. If not, try this perhaps:
tell application "Adobe InDesign CS3"
tell active document
set paginator to 1
repeat with i from 1 to count every spread
if (i mod 2) = 1 then
try
override (every page item of applied master of spread i whose label = "pagenumbox") destination page (first page of spread i)
end try
try
set (contents of every page item of spread i whose label = "pagenumbox") to (paginator) as text
set paginator to paginator + 1
on error
display dialog "Couldn't apply page number " & paginator & " to spread " & i & "."
end try
end if
end repeat
end tell
end tell -
I have InDesign CS5.5 on a Windows 7 64-bit machine hooked to a Xerox 7750 printer. I have created a 8.5x11 portrait document and trying to create a booklet on 12x18 sheets.
I need to print duplex manually and so I need to print just the odd spreads and then the even spreads.
I have printed to Adobe PDF and printed from my created PDF file and have it working, but I want to know why InDesign won't let me do it. When I click "File > Print Booklet > Print Settings" then it shows the Print Dialog box with the Pages section, which includes the Sequence that normally would allow me to do Odd Pages or Even Pages, but it is disabled. Why? I can define Print Presets and I can choose Odd Pages, but when I choose that in the Preset box it does not show anything, everything is still disabled.
Anybody have any idea of why it is disabled? Is it my printer driver?I too was very frustrated after upgrading to indesign cs5.5 and the latest LION OS on my new MAC. I missed the odd/even page selection in the print dialog box within Indesign. I tried about everything and found little of value in various forums. But I did find a workable solution that makes since in terms of Apple's OS.
My objective is to "impose" my document and also end up with a file that I can just print again and again without "ripping" in the InDesign Print Booklet Dialog.
Here is the quick version of what to do. I am not including every little step with pictures. =) (I can if there is interest.)
1. create your document
2. Print Booklet
3. At the first dialog box, just ignore the printer in print preset (you will come back to this) and go to the 2-up perfect bound option and select 16 page signatures. This will impose 2-up on 4 physical pieces of paper printed both sides. So 16 of your document pages printed duplex on 4 physical sheets of paper. It would be nice to then just select the printer and scaling, etc. and the option to print even pages, flip over and then print odd pages but that ain't an option. If you have different needs, do the math and input the correct numbers before proceeding
4. Click on Print Settings to pull up a second dialog box.
5. Select for Printer PostScript File (not your printer) Also select for PPD your printer or Adobe PDF 9 if you have that installed. Don't obsess on this just pick your Printer for the PPD.
6. Select 1 copy and All Pages while in the General Tab
7. Select the Setup Tab Here is where you put in the actual physical paper size that you are going to print your document on. Don't scale to fit. You must do this. If you feel the need, check out all the tabs and options but for now, you are just trying to get an output file. You probably do want to select CENTER for page position in this same setup tab.
8. Hit OK whcih will return you to the original dialog. Check when you return to be sure that at the top Printer is populated with PostScript File. Click on Print and give the thing a name and a location to save at the resulting dialog.
Breathe as you are almost home. You have sucessfully created a file that can be called up again and again without opening InDesign. (albeit, a postscript file but not a problem)
Now,
1. Double click on this new file (it will have a .ps extention) or just open it in your PREVIEW (apple supplied utility) Preview is where you accomplish the even and odd page objective.
2. Preview will show you a short progress dialog while it rips this postscript file into a PDF.
3. Click on PRINT
4. Select your printer, page range, select the Paper Size (again not document size but the size sheet that you are printing the 2-up , imposed (booklet) document on. If not in the selection dialog, then use the custom option to create it (custom paper size) and give it a name.
5. Click on SCALE and insert 100% in place of the weird number that it will insert for you. You will then see your document correctly displayed in the sidebar preview window.
6. OK, now what you have been waiting for. Click on the box that says Preview (the active window) and select Paper Handling from the drop-down and select from Pages to Print the coveted odd or even page selection. You can also do other things that should have been back at the InDesign print dialog but are now gone. Explore. Enjoy.
7. You will have to work out your own work flow about reverse or no reverse order and how to flip, etc. But you will be working with something predictable at this point.
8. Since this has been ripped into a PDF , you might as well Click on the PDF button and click on save as a PDF at this point to save that postscript to PDF rip. Also print using PREVIEW for the newly created PDF file next time as you will not have to learn a bunch of new dialogs and be frustrated all over again.
I am now back in business printing the book blocks for my handbound journals. -
How can I print only "odd" or only "even" pages with version10.6.3
Sorry for my stupidity, but I'm very new to Mac. Love it, but am about to throw it across the room. My old PC just had a button to click in the print window that said "print only odd pages", then I could turn the pages over and click "print only even pages" and they would be two sided.
Where is this button on the Mac?
Thank youYour welcome. BTW you may want to invest a few bucks on a good OS X book, lots of really useful information that can save you a huge amount of time. One I really like is:

Printing odd and even pages separately (manual duplex)
Hi
I searched the forum and found some similar problems regarding Adobe Reader 8.1.2 : Adobe Reader 8.1.2 doesn't print odd and even pages correctly
This was posted more than a year ago. A few days ago I encountered the same problem with Adobe Acrobat 8.1.2. I suspected that it could be beacause of outdated software. I then applied incremental patches up to 8.1.5. But the problem still persists. The link was about Reader, but I tried it with AA8.1.5 on a 3 page document and did indeed find the same problem. The 1st page printed out, but the 3rd page was missing when printing the odd pages. When printing the even pages, the 2nd page printed out 2 times. The 3rd page never showed up. I think this is what you are talking about. Wonder if they fixed it in AA9?
