Print on a DVD - a4 format chosen by the driver

I use to print on DVD with a program delivered along with my Epson printer R220. I would like to design the label in ID CS4, but cannont choose the right "paper format". Any experience or advice?
Yours Knud

I was a bit unclear. I want to print on the disc itself. I choose "source" to cs/DVD - "Type" to cd/DVD premium surface - and the only option on "size" is a4. This cause the print not to hit the disc.

  • IMac (Intel) Restore DVDs don't work if the drive has been formatted first

    Here's an interesting find...
we have a gob of iMac G5s that were being re-imaged and one iMac Intel was mistakenly re-imaged with a G5 dmg (via Firewire Target Disk Mode).
As expected, the iMac Intel wouldn't boot from a 10.4.4 image built on a G5, but now when I try to restore the Intel back to the out-of-the-box state (booting from its OS dvds), the installer reports "You cannot install Mac OS X on this volume. Mac OS X cannot start up from this volume." The Options button is greyed-out (where normally you could select Options and choose Erase and Install).
Further inspection on another out-of-the-box Intel iMac (in Firewire Target Disk Mode) shows its hard drive is actually partitioned into two volumes: One is a 200MB partition, the other is the remainder and mounts as Macintosh HD. The 200 MB partition will not mount (via Disk Utility).
I'm assuming that since the Intel iMac's drive was erased prior to booting from it's OS DVDs, the necessary partitions are not present.
Anyone have any info? I'm guessing that since I did not initiate the restore from the DVD's "Install Mac OS X and Applications" script the drive did not get partitioned correctly...
    TIA -m.

Yeah, I found that out. Here's one link that describes the issue:
    http://db.tidbits.com/getbits.acgi?tbart=08405
My point was to illustrate the OS Installer/Disk Utility’s inability (while booted from the OS DVD) to provide the option to choose the GUID partitioning scheme for a volume during an “erase and install” on a drive that has been previously formatted under the “traditional” partition scheme – the “options” button does not appear.
To reinstall to factory defaults, I had to boot the target iMac into Firewire disk mode and use another iMac (Intel) and its Disk Util to get the “options” button to select the GUID partition scheme.
Oh well, I’m sure Apple’s working on that…

  • HT2499 My DVD player has stopped taking discs and the DVD player no longer recognizes the drive.  I bought an external player.  How do I switch the DVD player from the internal drive to the external?

My DVD Player in my MabBook Pro, System 10.8.2, has stopped accepting discs and is no longer recognized by the DVD driver.  I purchased an external Blue-ray Disc player/writer.  It is a Samsung.  I downloaded their driver so the drive shows up on my desktop.  But how do I switch the DVD player over from my internal to my external drive?

In addition to RRFS's advice, please post in the correct forum. This forum is for iMac's, you mentioned you have a MacBook Pro. They're similar but still pretty different hardware.

  • Another dvd player 70017 error - but the drive works fine???

    Mac Mini early 2009 - 2.0ghz, 3gb ram, 10.6.2.
I am having a regular problem with the dvd player; I usually get the message "There was an initialization error. A valid video device could not be found for playback. Error 70017" when I start the program.
The DVD drive works wonderfully for reading, burning, etc. If I restart the computer the dvd player usually works for watching movies...if I use Toast, disk utility, or any other dvd related program, the player will now work again. I have tried the pacifist method to reinstall and have deleted every dvd player file I can find.... The same happens when I reset pram.
Any advice? Doesn't seem to be hardware, but I'd be glad to test that as well.
What's going on here? This is frustrating...I can use any number of other programs to watch movies, but it sure is nice to be able to use dvd player to see which title is playing, etc...plus I just want it to work - after all, isn't that the hook?
    Thanks for any advice!

Two things, have you run the Hardware Test on your Install DVD? Have you tried resetting the Systems Management Controller?

  • Some DVDs aren't recognized in the drive

I have a Mac Pro tower, as well as a MacBook Pro.
Sometimes when I try to use a DVD (custom-made, not a manufactured item) in the Mac Pro, I get a message that the computer does cannot read the disk. This does not happen with all "home made" DVDs - I recently got 5 DVDs with QuickTime files on them, 3 were rejected, but 2 worked fine.
Yet, I take the same rejected DVD and put it into my MacBook Pro, and it works fine.
    Any thoughts on this?

Maybe it's the media itself rather than anything you're doing of your hardware. Try using good quality branded media and see if things improve.

  • How do I remove a DVD that is stuck in the drive on MacBook

I put a DVD in my drive to watch a movie and it is making a sound as if it cannot red it and my computer is not booting up.

A stuck DVD should not prevent your Mac booting from its hard drive.
Turn your Macbook all the way off (hold the power button down until the power light turns off). Then try the following:
    - Reboot the computer. Straight away, hold down the left button on the trackpad, or the left button on an attached USB mouse if you use one. Keep it held down and eventually, the disk should eject.
    - Reboot the computer. Hold down the Option key until you see the boot panel on the screen. Choose your HD to boot from that disk. Once booted, is the DVD shown on the desktop / in the Finder? Try ejecting it there.
    - If, once booted, you don't see the disk in the Finder, take a look at the disk slot. Can you see the middle of the DVD? Try pushing it in very gently.
If none of those help, you should take it to an Apple Store or authorized repair center for them to remove it.

  • Please.  Does anyone know why I can't Boot, DVD-RW is stuck in the drive?

When I try to boot up the screen stops at the picture of the apple with the circular motion thingy and does not go any further. I let it sit there for an hour and it never came up.
It all started when I tried to make a copy of a home video on DVD-RW. I had a Lacie external dvd burner and a Lacie external Hard drive connected. The program Toast kept coming up with an error when I tried to copy the DVD-RW. I figured I would just go and download the free Mpeg-2 streamclip program & the DC30 Xact Driver for Mac to make a copy and burn the project. I downloaded both and restarted my computer and it never rebooted. It just sits on the screen mentioned above. I really need to get the DVD-RW out today because it is a friends.
Can anyone shed some light on this?
    Mucho thanks.

Have you tried booting up in safe mode? Hold down the shift key while booting up. If that works you might try uninstalling that new software you just installed.

  • Backing up to CD or DVD - How do I select the drive

I have I-tunes for windows and want to back up to CD / DVD. I choose, file, library, backup to disc, then OK. I-tunes automatically opens my original burner drive that no longer works. I have a new external burner that I would like to use. How do I get I-tunes it to switch to the other drive?

Bumping this topic. I used to be able to select an external CD drive in Preferences. Where's the option gone?

  • Dvds keep getting ejected from the drive.

powerbook g4   Mac OS X (10.4.2)   Ever since I've upgraded to OS10.4.8 my combo drive ejects some dvds, specifically dvd+r discs. What gives with that? Any help or workaround will be much appreciated. The following is my info.
    Machine Name: PowerBook G4
    Machine Model: PowerBook3,4
    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (2.1)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 667 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
L3 Cache (per CPU): 1 MB
    Memory: 768 MB
    Bus Speed: 133 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.3.7f3
    powerbook g4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

My PowerBook (Machine Model: PowerBook3,5) had the same issue when I first got it, over three years ago, and Apple declared it a faulty drive and replaced under Applecare.
I had the same problem earlier this year, just before my extended Applecare ran out, and it was the same issue - faulty drive.
The symptoms were - unable to read certain types of DVD (the machine would grind for a while, then spit them back out), including the Apple Hardware Test, but would readily read some other DVDs and all CDs.
    Hope this helps,
    Rich
I forgot to say: this sound like something that shouldn't have an impact (I remember when it was the second step on every article regarding troubleshooting OS 7!), but resetting the PRAM would help about half the time for a temporary fix

  • CDs/DVDs do not fit in the drive.

Most likely, I am doing something wrong. I never saw a disk drive on a laptop before, only on my desktop computer. I went to put a CD in to listen to music, but it would not fit. There is a black round thing in the middle of where the CD should go. It is wider than the hole on the CD. Is this something that I am supposed to take out or off? My desktop doesn't have this piece. My laptop is a Leveno 3000 N500, OS Vista Home Basic. Thanks so much for any help someone can give.
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

You must gently push the disk into place. The "black round thing" contains three spring-loaded tabs which will hold the disk in place. When you gently push down on the disk, it will retract the tabs only to come back out once the disk is in place. Then the disk will be secure for you to use it as appropriate.

  • Trying to network my hp deskjet 6940 printer via a new win 7 64 pc. the printer shows as "offline"

I am trying to network my hp deskjet 6940 printer via a new win 7 64 pc.  The printer is visible but shows as "offline" and will not respond.
Can the  hp deskjet 6940 printer operate over a lan using a win 7 64 pc?
    Thanks!

    Borneodiver,
Since the site says the driver is already in Windows 7, then a different method of adding the printer will need to be performed to get the driver from Windows Update.
First, uninstall the printer from the Windows 7 system.
    1.  go to devices and printers and select Add Printer at the top.
    2.  Select Add a local printer.
    3.  Create a new port with port type Local Port.
    4.  The port name will indicate where the printer is located.  The format will be \\<computer name>\<printer share name>.  Leave out the < > symbols.  For me, this would be \\mycomputer\printer.
    5.  The next screen will show a list of various printers.  Click the Windows Update button to update the list to the most current.
    6.  Select your model printer from the list.
The rest of the prompts should continue from there without any issue.  I do not have a photosmart 7760 to get the rest of the prompts from there, but it should work after these steps are completed on the Windows 7 system.
If the printer was added using the network option, then it won't work on Windows 7 and there won't be an option for the driver since a network driver doesn't really exist for the printer since it is not natively networked.
Selecting the network option is usually selected in this process and it appears to not work with printers that are shared from a computer.  This process tricks the Windows 7 system into running the printer as if it was actually connected to the printer, but the port name directs it to the host computer.
    Let me know what happens.
I did find these steps here in jimbo45's post.  I did perform the steps with a different computer and printer successfully, but it should work in this scenario as well.

  • Trying to install new Hardrive...can't get it to format the drive

I just bought a Maxtor Maxline Plus II 250 gig hard drive for more storage and as a second bootable drive, I'm having trouble with my current drive. I installed the drive and turned on the computer, The drive comes up in disk utility but will not allow me to format or erase the drive. I even tried from the Mac OSX install dvd and still nothing. I bought the drive on ebay and the guy says it needs a low level format? Does anyone have any suggestions...I'm pulling out my hair here.
    Thanks

    Hi-
    Welcome to Discussions!
the guy says it needs a low level format?
That's not within the realm of the end user.
Low level formatting is done at the factory.
If the drive can't be erased, return it. Something is wrong.

  • Can I format an IDE Hard Drive from Mac Pro?

    I use a mid - 2012 Mac Pro; run Mavericks OS X 10.9.2.
    1. Can an IDE hard drive (using an external drive) be formatted to 10.9.2, from my Mac Pro using Mavericks? (the IDE hard drive is new/unformatted).
    2. Once formatted to 10.9.2, can I reformat the IDE hard drive to Mac OS X Leopard 10.5.8, from my Mac Pro using Mavericks?
    3. If so, would should I do to accomplish Question # 2 above?

The version of the OS that is running  is not relevant to formatting the drive. When you format a drive in any OS, you should select "Mac OS extended journaled." (That is, unless you plan to share the drive with a Windows computer.) Formatted this way, the drive can be used with any version of Mac OS.
You do not have to reformat the drive each time you connect it with a different OS.
