Print options gone? Color/Grayscale?

So I have multiple computers hooked up to a HP Envy 4500 printer. All of the other computers are able to print color, however, my iMac running Yosemite will not. It only prints in grayscale, and I am unable to locate the option to turn off grayscale. All of the print options that use to be in Maverick are no longer there. Can anyone help me out?

I've been working with another poster with this same problem.  It seem that there is no solution for now, just a work around.  The work around is to install the printer via USB.  There is something coded wrong in the software, or something isn't installing right, but I never could figure out what it was.  A future driver update might fix the problem, but I have no clue if one is planned, or not.  Sorry.

  • Where has the "any printer" option gone?

In my printer drop down, there are a list of printers, but no "any printer".  I need this as I have document that is larger than any of the printers i currently have.

The any printer option seems to have disappeared. My first thought was that it had gone with Lion 10.7.3, but it is also missing in the print dialog on my Mac mini running Snow Leopard. I haven't had a printer that can do larger sizes for quite awhile, so I don't know when it disappeared from the print dialog. You can still select "any printer" & other sizes (I have tabloid as a custom size) in File > Page Setup… in Pages.

  • Finger print Option Gone From Simplepass

I just replaced the hard drive on my laptop.  After reinstallng the operating system (Windows 8) the finger print scanner was working fine.  It was also working fine before my hard drive crashed.  After upgrading to Windows 8.1 on the new hard drive, Simplepass no longer offers the finger print option.  It only allows me to set a pin for it.  On the old hard drive, I had also upgraded to Windows 8.1 and the finger print scanner was working fine then too.  So not sure why it is no longer working. Thanks

    HI,
Try reinstalling your printer drivers and restart your Mac.
You might also try deleting your printer preference file.
Go to ~/Library/Preferences. You should have a file like this...
    com.yourprintermanufacturename.plist
Move that file to the Trash and restart your Mac.
Also, try disconnecting and reconnecting your printer from your Mac.

  • Generating Grayscale PDF Through Printing Option?

I have a document with 100 color slides that I'd like to retain as a grayscale handout (i.e. a PDF file with 4 slides per page). Through the 'Print' option and beneath the 'Keynote' drop-down menu, for 'Handout', I've selected 4-slides per page. But I can't find a way to make the document grayscale. I see a checkbox for 'Grayscale Printing' beneath the 'Quality & Media' menu, but the document still appears in color when I save it as a PDF and open it in Preview. I've also selected 'Color Sync' beneath the 'Color Matching' menu and found options for black/white and generic gray profiles, but these don't seem to affect the document.
Do I have to add a printer or change my preferences? I remember this working with the last version of Keynote. What has changed?

Set your print options as you want them and then in the PDF drop down menu, select Open PDF in Preview. Then go to Save As and in the Quartz Filter drop down menu, select Gray Tone. Then save it.

  • Composite grayscale printing option in Illustrator?

Why is there no composite grayscale printing option in Illustrator? I see it in Acrobat and Indesign. There are times we need to print grayscale composites to check layout and content.
Besides converting all colors to grayscale, I see no way to simply print grayscale out of Illustrator. Am I missing something?
    Thanks.

Although there is no direct "Grayscale" option, you can try specifying a Printer Profile in Color Management tab of Print dialog to Gray profile to get the grayscale print.

  • OSX Print dialogue's Color Matching "Automatic" option - what's it actually doing?

I'm trying to understand OSX's colour management options clearer. It seems that the Print dialogue's default option for Color Matching is set to "Automatic". Is this as good as no colour management, because a specific profile isn't selected or is it actually using a default profile?
To stop the OSX driver from colour correcting my file and leave it to the printer manufacturer's driver you should set it to the other option (eg. eg. “Vendor Matching” (10.5) and “In Printer” (10.6) - or depends on what printer you have chosen) and then save a preset. Not everyone thinks to do this so that's why I'm interested in knowing exactly what the "Automatic" option is doing.
    Your help is most appreciated!
    Cheers,
    Cojcolds

I understood your note to say that when "Color Matching" is set to ColorSync: Automatic the images in the file will first be converted through the monitor profile (in my case I'm currently using the "canned" LCD Display profile), then through the printer's profile (I have a desktop Fuji Xerox DocuPrint C1110B), correct?
Correct. Let's say you're using the working RGB color space of Adobe RGB in Photoshop. At all times, that color is being translated to the monitor color space by ColorSync for the rendition that is actually displayed. The file itself remains Adobe RGB, but that's not your monitor's profile, so it needs to be continuously converted for display.
When you print the image, the first thing ColorSync does is convert the color space from Adobe RGB to your monitor profile (all with temporary data, not to the original). Now the image is in the color space you were viewing, which is where is needs to be since the idea is for the print to match the monitor color you are looking at. But the printer is not a monitor, so the monitor profile color space the data is currently in is not correct for printing. So it goes through a second conversion from the monitor color space to the printer profile's color space. That is what finally gets sent to the printer.
This is where any automatic color correction must be off. You've already told ColorSync to use the proper profiles to achieve a print that will match the monitor as closely as possible. This assumes of course you have accurate profiles for both your monitor, and the printer with the paper being used.
As a further test, I then ColorSync to the AdobeRGB(1998) profile and made a new ps file. The RGB values in the distilled PDF were still the same as the Word doc.
That's what throws people off. An RGB value isn't a specific color. It's a representation of where that RGB value falls in relation to *L*A*B. So a fully saturated red of 255,0,0 will look different in a short color space as opposed to a larger space. Here's an example (see image below). I have two different profiles overlapping each other. The red point circled in green is the most saturated red that can be attained in relation to *L*A*B in that smaller color space. The point circled in yellow is that larger space's most saturated red. In both cases (the confusing aspect), both will assign 255,0,0 to that point, but one would obviously be a richer red than the other. Think of it this way. 255,0,0 is the maximum color space that particular color space (profile) can handle within *L*A*B. It's not necessarily the maximum red we can see in the visible color spectrum.
So, your converted files look the same because ColorSync is generating the color based on your monitor profile for display. Since that's always the same, the color will look the same, regardless of the input RGB profile. At least as long as you don't use a really small RGB space as an assigned color space and squeeze it down to some noticeably dull color.
I'm a trainer for Fuji Xerox and am writing a course for our Mac users on Colour Management (in particular for our high-end production RIPs (Fiery/Creo/FreeFlow) with serious colour management being applied).
Fun! I've been doing prepress work as as in-home business for quite a few years now, but worked in a couple of different high end print shops for many years. Last thing I used on that end was a Scitex Brisque RIP. As I'm sure you know, Creo bought out Scitex. I'm sure RIPs have changed a lot since I last looked at one.
I only discovered the other day that the Mac OS has the "Color Matching" option and wondered if the OS was in any way bending the colour values before our RIPs have a chance to properly manage the colours. So far it looks like the setting is not having any impact.
It all depends on where your settings are on both the Mac and at the RIP. Too long of an explanation to go into here I think.
As a further note, I even tried setting ColorSync to the "Generic CMYK" profile and the distilled PDF still showed the correct RGB values. So, maybe the print to PDF option is ignoring the Color Matching settings or something else is at play but this setting is still a mystery to me...
ColorSync will only apply matching profiles on the fly. So something would already have to by CMYK before it would apply the Generic CMYK profile. Which no one in their right mind would ever use. It's the flattest, ugliest CMYK profile you will ever see.

Is there a plug in or some way to make the printing options for jewel cases better? I only have 4 options when I go to print, and I'd like to have more control over font size (because it always cuts stuff off) and color and designs. Any ideas? Thanks!

  • How to print a selection of pages from a 3000   page PDF without having to scroll two wheels! Also is there a way to set printer options for just black and white? Seems like there is a lot missing here?

I have been using this for school work as much as possible and have come across a problem. With my lack of knowledge for apple it seems as though I can't navigate myself to a easy answer. The problem hits when I am printing pages off of a large document, and I don't want to print the entire document in color but I have no way "that I can find" for a black and white print option...
----- also a larger issue, when printing I need to select 1 page or even 20 pages... The time it takes to use a scroll wheel and the fact if you try and scroll fast sometimes you click off the screen then you have to start scrolling all over again... It seems like you would beagle to input from say page 1224 to 1236.... Instead I have a scroll a wheel? Just doesn't make sense...?
Can someone please help solve this for me!

Yes, that fixed it, thanks! I had no idea they clashed like that. I ruthlessly purged all other tables of contents, and then used Layout > Table of Contents to create a new one, and it worked.
It made more sense after seeing in this thread that table of contents styles are more like presets or entities than styles.

  • Type 4 printer driver shows color is available when printer is not a color printer

I am working on migrating to a new Windows Server 2012 print server.  I am trying to use the new version 4 printer drivers whenever possible.  I have noticed an interesting thing.  Here is an example.  When I added a new printer, an HP
LaserJet P3005 black and white printer using the HP LaserJet P3004/P3005 PCL6 Class Driver, under "features" it reports Color as "Yes."  Now the printer is not color and I have noticed this on all of the other class 4 drivers for black
and white printers.  Am I missing something or is this supposed to be this way?  The printers do print fine, I just wanted to know why this is showing up like this.

Really a question for HP since it is their software.
BUT:  A class driver can be used for a wide range of devices.  If the core class driver HP added for the P3005 is also used by devices that support color then the driver itself DOES support color even when the device does not.   There
are a couple ways HP could code around this.  I do see that HP's PS version of the P3005 does not have a color option in Printing Defaults.
I have seen this type of issue from other vendors on previous operating systems, it's not just HP nor anything specific to class drivers although a class driver would expose this when the software to constrain the feature has not been added by the vendor.

  • How to print with "no color management" in CS6

  • Print PDF with special print options of Canon IR printer

    Hi,
We have a collection (db driven) of PDF documents that we want to send to our network printers. Some document need a hole punch of some other specific printeroptions of a Canon IR printer.
The ideal solutions is a windows application where i could define virtual printers with their print options (pdf and printer specific).
    Eg:
A user creates in a the windows app a virtual printer with name and print options
    - FastPunch: Printer IR5570 with hole punch
    - Fast: Printer IR5570
    - Color: IR C4080
    - ColorBooklet: IR C4080 with booklet options
When the app starts its batch it will look at de db and find rows with an PDF and the name of a virtual printer. The documents are printed with specific printer preferences.
Does someone has experience with such an solution? Tips?
Someone wants to make this in vb.net (or c#)? What cost?
    gtx, Pierre

I have downloaded the Acrobat SDK but I haven't really waded through the documentation or samples yet. I've only been working on this project for about 3 days now and not full time. This isn't the highest priority at work. I've worked a bit with the adobe reader control and that looks like it has some promise.
    I have two significant problems:
    1) I don't want the user to see any windows appear other than my console application. That way I have it working right now, Acrobat is required and appears minimized while the file is spooled and then is closed after spooling completes. Not so horrible but I'd like to get away from it if possible. To print the file right now I'm using the startprocess module or something (new version of shell I think). I'm starting the pdf with the verb "Printto" and that tells Acrobat to print to a printer that I specify.
2)Biggest problem. I have no reliable way to change the number of copies or any other print settings. I am not willing to write a program that spools a single copy multiple times just to get multiple copies. Currently my program uses rundll to open a printer preferences dialog, and SendKeys to modify the print settings. This means that the computer cannot be used while automated printing is occurring.
Right now the program's only saving grace is that it allows the user to be ignorant of the job settings so that all the user has to do is indicate an item number and quantity and walk away (hoping nothing changes the focus and derails SendKeys - but we know that kind of thing never happens in XP :P )

  • Error Message:Can't print illustration. Color Management systems inconsistent.

I am getting this error message, "Can't print illustration. Color management systems are inconsistent." I just upgraded to CS5(from CS2) on a Dell Studio using an Epson WorkForce 1100 or an Epson Sylus NX400. I am a rank amateur in AI & have no idea how to fix this. I do not seem to have the option to turn off color management in either of my printers to default to AI. All I am trying to print are some labels using regular fonts and a few smoke brushes for color. These are not wildly colorful or complicated. I KNOW I should be using a Mac but I do not have one...sigh...
    Thanks for ANY help.

not sure I understand the core problem...but what happens if you Save As "Adobe PDF" and Convert to your Print Space there in Output (then print from Acrobat or place in InDesign, heck maybe even open the .pdf in Ai and try again):

  • Graph legend and print options

When building a graph using the graphTable bean, I'd like to place the legend below the graph instead of above. How can this be done?
Also, the graph plots a number of lines, each of which is rendered in a different color. Is there a way to make the graph lines cross-hatched, or dotted, or something else so that when printed in black and white the user is able to associate the graph line with the legend?

    Hi,
Take a look at SAP note #1049778. For recent releases, the device type HP4350 should be already available in transaction SPAD n the system.
Also as per SAP note #1049778, most of the new device types that were developed within the SAP Printer Vendor program (SAP note #1130927) support the new print options.(see SAP note #1103422)

  • How to have "black and white only" be the default print option

Just installed a new printer and would like to set it up so that the default print option is black and white only. How do I do this?

Can't find this anywhere. I'm brand new to Macs so I
    might need more detailed instructions.
I have an HP Photosmart C6100 by the way.
Not sure which post you are responding to since you replied to yourself
Every printer is a little different so you may have to do some searching through the settings. I don't have an HP Photosmart C6100 here so I can't say for sure where the setting is for that printer.
The closest thing I have to that model printer here is an HP OfficeJet 6310
In that model you choose Paper Type/Quality
In drop down menu under Color you select Gray Scale
Then you can still save the preset as I described in my previous post.
If the C6100 is different than that you may just have to search through option pages and explore the drop down selections.
Which I could be more specific, but they are all a little different.
