Print PDF without flatten?

Dear All,
I am trying to print a xdp file.
And as far as I know, below is the step I require to do.
1) Convert XDP to PDF
2) Flatten PDF
3) Convert to PostScript
4) Send to print with service "sendToPrinter"
But I hit a problem that dynamic form will not look the same after flatten.
For example, if my form have 2 format difference sex, and I implement by hidden the unwanted field by script, I will find that all field are visible after flatten.
So, I would like to know if it is possible to print without flatten the form at all?
Thanks in advance.
Regards
Bill

You mean the discoloration? That would be PDF tiles and how your printer handles them. In that case you may need to experiment a little with teh PDF settings and also check the color separations in Acrobat. this might reveal some of that stuff to show up on teh wrong ink plates/ not show up and would explain it. Could even be some faint semi-transparent objects you have in your artwork and you have forgotten about tehm. And naturally, your friend should check his local printer settings as well. If he e.g. has a USB printer, the print job may be sent in unfavorable chunks, which then would require him/ her to tweak his settings so the job only starts printing when fully spooled and being sent as one continuous job...

  • Print PDF without embedded fonts (for USPTO)

I need to print PDFs that can be uploaded to the US PTO, and for them to be compatible they must not have any embedded fonts. I am using the Acrobat XI Distiller with the configuration file downloaded directly from the PTO website http://www.uspto.gov/ebc/portal/efs/uspto.joboptions, but the fonts are still being embedded. Is there any way to get the PDF distiller to not embed any fonts?

The .joboptions file that your posting points to very specifically requests that all fonts be embedded, subsetted!!!
Thus, if you are using these joboptions to produce PDF, you are getting exactly what the joboptions call for.
If someplace on the US Patent and Trademark Office website is telling you to not embed fonts and then provides these joboptions, then they are giving you conflicting information!
However, searching that website, I found instructions for PDF file creation such as at <EFS-Web PDF Guidelines> and the attached PDF file from the website.
In fact, the US Patent and Trademark Office absolutely requires that you embed all fonts.

  • TopicAlias footnotes in Word - how to print PDF without them?

Hello all, I am successfully using Word footnotes (called "TopicAlias") to generate map IDs in RoboHelp. But now I have the problem that there are these footnotes everywhere in my document which should naturally not appear in PDF output. I can make the text itself dissappear by using the corresponding formatting option of the associated styles, but then I still have the lines that Word inserts at the end of each page to separate the footnotes.
How do I print a clean PDF from the Word document without showing the ToicAlias footnotes?

    Hey,
i'm having a similar problem here: I want to print a PDF from KW_Storage in background. Any ideas?

  • Canon Printer suddenly won't print pdfs

All of sudden it won't print pdfs. It will print from Pages, Textedit etc but if I try and Print a PDF I get a Canon Error Number : 94 A paper size that cannot be fed from the cassette was selected. Load paper in the auto sheet feeder, and press the Paper Feed Switch on the printer. Printing will restart. That's as far as it goes. Tried reinstalling the drivers (last update from Canon was June 09). Also reinstalled Acrobat Reader with no luck.

Nothing changed. But since then using AppZapper I removed all the Adobe stuff I have. Then went into Libraries and removed Adobe folder. Then went to print and it works. So it must be an Adobe issue. Don't know what but if I can read and print pdfs without Adobe installed that will do me. Strange. Uses Preview of course.

  • Print PDF from web without opening A.R.

Hi, I'm looking for a way to print PDF documents (generated in Crystal Reports 11 on a IIS web server in PDF / ASP.NET Framework 2.0) on client's machines and printers (without opening an Acrobat Reader, but with print options dialog).
Is it possible to make this issue using Adobe Acrobat SDK?

For security reasons (eg. so that malicious web servers can't just start your printer a printing...), it is IMPOSSIBLE for the document to NOT show...
Any document that is on the web can be saved on the client's machine - that's the beauty (or not?) of the web and the protocols involved. If you wish to prevent misuse - be sure to use DRM.

  • Is there a way to print a pdf to a pdf without changing your default printer?

With the recent Adobe update (current version Adobe Pro XI Pro (1637-0001) 11.0.00), there were some changes that have caused a program my company uses to distort all or part of a pdf once it has been imported. We have found a work around. However, the work around is now becoming time consuming with the amount of files we deal with on a daily basis. Is there a way to print a pdf to a pdf without changing the default printer to the Adobe printer? (this is our work around solution).
    Thanks!

For what you are trying to do, probably not. You have to open Acrobat and go to the print menu to select the Adobe PDF printer if it is not the default. The only possibility that I can think of (you will have to try it to tell if that is the case) is to drag the PDF to the Adobe PDF printer and see if it prints. This used to work, but I just tried it in Win7 and it did not do the job.

  • How to print a pdf without user interaction (With C#)

My boss assigned me a task that to get the ImagePreview of 1st page of PDF.
My thought is to print the 1st page of PDF to file(virtual print to file), and get the image source, but there comes the problem:
How can print a pdf without user interaction(With C#),question are these:
    1. I can use the ShellExcute but cannot assign the destination of output file.
    2. User interface is unwanted, I don't want show anyone the Acrobat Reader interface who click the file just want to get a preview.
    3. No place to put those parameters in.
This problem confused me a lot of days, I wish someone can give some hints.
    Thank you very much!
(Maybe you will tell me to use Acrobat SDK, please don't, I'm afraid we cannot afford that)

    >I have not read the document yet
This is the first step. There are many documents, but start with the
    introductory/getting started material.

A PDX is a search database to allow you to do fast searching in
    Acrobat.

    >About the relationship between Adobe Reader and Acrobat, as far as I know is that, the previous one is just the reading tool for PDF document, instead, Acrobat can modify and resave the PDF doc. Is it right?
Effectively, yes. But the Acrobat SDK is mainly for working with
Acrobat. It's very important to keep this clear, since you have said
you only have the free Reader, so 95% of what is in the SDK cannot
    work for you.
    >
    >Simply my questions,
    >1. I don't know which dll to refer in the .Net project to print with. Is the ActiveX folder in product folder?
Simply, there is no point asking these questions, yet, because you
have not started on the documentation.
But let's continue in the SDK forum, where I have posed what seems to
be a very important question about why print to file at all.

  • Load a PDF and Print it Without User Seeing the PDF

I have a client who has a need to allow users via a web browser to print PDFs wihtout gaining direct access to them.  Ignoring all the flaws in this logic , I am new to Flex and am having difficulty determining if this is possible.  So, here are the details:
    1) This is a web browser application.
    2) The files reside on a server.
    3) The user will view a list of available PDF files in their browser.
    4) There will be a print icon next to each one.
    5) When they click on the print icon we need to pull in the PDF from the server and initiate a print, all without the user seeing the PDF.  So once they click the print icon the next thing they see is thier browser's print dialog box.
I have 1-4 done, I just need help with the most important one, #5.
So, can Flex (without AIR) load a PDF in without displaying it and print it?
I am using Flash Builder 4.6, if it matters.
Thanks in advance for any input.

Well, that's going to be difficult. Before everything else, a silent printing in general, is not what Browser is all about. A print dialog is thrown by the browser when a user selects a print option. Same thing if an application is trying to print using built into it conventional methods of printing - you get Print dialog. It gets even harder if you want to print PDF files silently. You will need to make sure that a file is available to print in case it's generated on the fly. The following code will print your PDF without dialogs to a selected (var printer) printer:
    var WshShell = new ActiveXObject("WScript.Shell");
    var fs = new ActiveXObject("Scripting.FileSystemObject");
    var fi = "AcroRd32.exe /N /T " + '"c:\\temp\\' + "filename" + '" ' + printer;
    WshShell.Run(fi, 0, false);
As you notice, the file is on the local system. Or you can try printing over the network.
This code will be a part of a JS function in your html wrapper. You will call this function from Flex using ExternalInterface.
AcroRd32.exe is an Adobe free PDF reader.  I would suggest starting from the end - have a file on the local system and working on everything esle.

  • Print date in PDF without opening Acrobat

I have a little issue that needs assistance.
Is it possible to get print date (e.g. todays date) automatically without opening the PDF in Acrobat. My plans are to use a hot folder / drop folder which directs the PDF to the printer. The form or script must be applicable anywhere on the layout. I'm working with quite heavy files for commercial printing, and nowadays spends lots of time just waiting for the file to load, add todays date into a form field, print and close the document. The time gained would be massive! I've tried some small scripts but none seems to work out for me.
    Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the input Geo. I think I've got it working now. I actually found a script on Adobeforum, so apologies for making a post. Regarding what you've written in your reply, it's actually possible to print a PDF without opening the application. I'm using a folder which is automatically scanned for files (must be PDF, PS or EPS). This is really good, I'm quite sure that you have the function in the new Distiller as well.

  • Image aliasing when exporting print PDF at 300 ppi (bicubic downsampling)

    Hello,
i am trying to describe a problem which persists since version CS3 of InDesign. It's about aliased edges in images in a certain angle; occuring when exporting the brochure as PDF file (at 300 ppi). The placed images are always at a higher quality than needed (for example 780 ppi effective). The aliasing is not there when opening the original image files in photoshop (viewing at 100%).
    The PDF export settings are:
    - Compression: Bicubic downsampling to300 ppi for images above 350 ppi (for color images, grayscale images and monochrome images)
    - Crop Image data to frames
    - Marks: Crop Marks and Page Information
    - Output: No Color Conversion
    - Advanced: Transparency Flattener: High Resolution
    - Compatibility: Acrobat 4 (PDF 1.3)
    - PDF /X-3:2002
    Below are two screenshots
    - The left one was the original image, downsampled to 216 mm in width using automatic bicubic downsampling
    - The right one is the result when exporting a InDesign Document with the same width to a PDF with the mentioned settings
Downsampled in Photoshop CS6 to 216 mm width
Exported from InDesign CS6 with mentioned settings
I have no clue what happens here, but it looks like the internal downsampling of InDesign CS6 is not very good.
When i write a PostScript file of the brochure and put it in Distiller (with the same PDF Preset as above), the image looks like the one made with Photoshop. So this problem has to lie somwhere deep in InDesign or it's settings.
    Anybody with similar experiences?

    Rob Day wrote:
Something about your test looks off. The export from ID and export from PS PDFs are both zoomed at 1200%, but the export from ID vrsion is 90% smaller.
Yeah I noticed that I actually had the image in InDesign scaled @ 90%, so the effective ppi was around 650.  I get the same jagged results when I use anything other than a 300 or 600 effective ppi.  Whereas if I use a 650ppi image in Photoshop and export to PDF, it downsamples smoothly.
    Rob Day wrote:
The diagonal lines in your test are 1 pixel so at 300ppi to an offset press at 150lpi, the lines would be less than a halftone dot so I'm pretty sure you would need a loupe to see any difference. Maybe with a stochastic screen there would be better resolution but still difficult to see. So if the printing is that good I would just export without down sampling. With disk space running at 15 cents a gigabyte there's not much to gain with a downsample.
It becomes noticeable with some images more than others, but I'm printing a lot of images of buildings and drawings with sharp lines that converge to a point, or are distinguishable in the full size image but indistinguishable when downsampled.  This can introduce distracting patterns when they aren't downsampled smoothly, something like this:
Unfortunately the printers near me aren't very good, so I'm having things printed online, and this particular printer (blurb.com - for a small job) won't accept large PDFs without compressed/downsampled images :/  I'm making 300dpi versions of the really crucial images for the time being, but I'm hoping there is a better solution!
The other issue is exporting the PDF for use on the web, either as a download or on an online PDF viewer like issuu.com.  The two PDFs on the right side of my test look much better in these situations.  Is there any disadvantage to using Distiller to make my PDFs for this purpose using the Device Independent setting?  I don't have any special interactive elements.
