Print photos edited in PSE 11 editor at Walmart, etc.

Is it the psd extention preventing me from being able to print photos edited in PSE 11 editor at the photo machine at Walmart?  Do I have to somehow save the photos as Jpeg and how do I do that?  I have already saved them after editing and they are in saved in Organizer.  Can you give me simple instructions?

Unless walmart also specifies that it can print tiff files, jpg is the way to go. Just select the files in the organizer, then file>export as new files, and choose the highest quality jpg.

  • Photos edited in external editor are huge..

If I edit a photo in an external editor (Photoshop CS5), the file is saved as an PSD file. This one is about 50 times bigger than the original. Is it possible to convert the file to a JPG after editing so it will use less disk space?

I've done this many times in iPhoto and it still works in there although I MUST flatten before saving back to iPhoto, However, Aperature is not doing this for me. I've tried flattening it and saving it as is and the file in Aperature gets duplicated like it's supposed to but the appearance of it does not change. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. Maybe it's in the settings? Maybe there is a glitch in my system. Maybe it's Elements 8 and not Aperature. I don't know and I'm getting frustrated.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks guys.

  • Saving photos edited in PSE 11

After I edit a photo in PSE 11 I want to save it back into Aperture. How can I do this?

Thanks, Barbara. I didn't express my issue very well. PSE 11 is my extenal editor for Aperture, and that part works very well. My issue is that when I go to "File>Save As" in PSE, the photo gets saved in a mysterious place instead of in Aperture. I can work around this issue by saving the photo to my desktop, but that's cumbersome, and I'd like not to have to do that. Any suggestions? BTW, Happy New Year.

  • PSE 5.0 Photo edit error message when attempting to save edits.

After attempting to save photo edits with PSE 5.0, I get the message box "could not complete your request because of a program error."  I have completed the task for a few years successfully and suddenly this glitch. These edits are basic fixes to shadows and contrast for my son's school trips and I dont want to save multiple copies, just replace original files, no heavy duty layer work.  I am using Vista and have not had this problem in the past.  I tried exiting the program a few times and started over, but same message box.
    Thank you Andy

  • External edit with PSE 12? I get an empty window.

I am running Aperture 3.5.1 in current version of Mavericks on a MAcBook Pro. I am trying to use PSE 12 as an external editor to resize, merge and some other stuff I want to do prior to printing on an Epson 3880.
When I try to send a file to PSE by Photos>Edit with PSE 12, an empty window opens in PSE. There  is nothing in the Photo Bin.
What am I doing wrong or is this not possible to do without exporting a TIFF to my desktop, etc.?
FYI, I am checking PSE out with their 30 day demo version, if this makes any difference.
    Thanks,
    Mark

Thanks for your suggestions, but, again as with Kirby's comments, my settings are exactly as you have suggested. I did confirm that my files were editable in Aperture.
Just to make sure: When you have a file open in Aperture and you choose "Edit with PSE 12", does that file open in a PSE window? (I get a PSE window but with no content.)
I'm going to see if I can get any info from Adobe.
    Keep those suggestions coming, folks!
I just realized I am selecting an alias for PSE and I haven't confirmed that, as you suggest in another posting, that I haven't dived deep enough.
    I'll report back momentarily.
LEONIE, YOU WERE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. ONCE I DUG INTO THE SUPPORT FOLDER, I FOUND THE APP, NOT AN ALIAS, SELECTED IT AND EVERYTHING IS WORKING PERFECTLY!!!!
    MANY THANKS!

  • Edit in External Editor (photoshop)?

I want to do a quick edit of an image in my new version of photoshop and when I select the image in the Album or in the Published Album Aperture is not giving me an option to Photo > Edit in External Editor because this is greyed out for some reason.
I have most of the manual printed out over here and found some threads on this in iPhoto forum but to be frank I am getting a little tired of some of the secret cubbies and locks I keep running across and I am afraid that if I just read the manual I will spend another two days trying to get this to work.
I imagine this is very straightforward and would anyone mind giving me a heads up on how to do this? I just want to black out a section where my background shows the wall instead of the black curtain supposed to be used as background...
    TIA for any help.

You can set Photoshop as your external editor in Aperture > Preferences > Export > Choose. It's on page 472 of the manual.
If you have downloaded the pdf of the Aperture 3 User Manual, you can use it interactively in Preview. I think you will find that you can get answers for most things much faster by using Preview's search window for the Aperture manual than by asking in Communities.
If you are printing out the manual from the web version rather than having the pdf you can download it here.

    Photoshop and elements 13
    Working in iPhoto
Want to edit image using photoshop elements
    Did the following
IPhoto>Preferences>Advanced>Edit Photos: In drop down menu chose in Photoshop Elements
Also control click and chose edit in external editor
Drop down menu edit photos in external program>photoshop Elements
Go to to the image I'm working on  --- selected the image, the clicked on edit. When nothing happened I double clicked the image. Still elements didn't open. Then I opened the Elements editor, went back to iphoto and tried the entire process again. the photo still didn't open on Elements 13 for editing.
I have 3 Elements 13 books as well as looked on line--all my references say the exact same thing ---- iPhoto>Preferences>advanced>edit in external program>photoshop Elements
I uninstalled and reinstalled both iPhoto as well as Elements.
I spoke with application technical support.  There appears to be nothing wrong with my copy of iPhoto.  However there is no support from Adobe.  I waited for over 1.5 hours for chat support several days ago, and finally gave up.

You are probably choosing the obvious file rather than the correct file as the PSE editor. The actual editor is hidden away inside the Support Files folder. The PSE file at the top level of the PSE folder in Applications is just an alias for the welcome screen and what you're describing is exactly what happens when you choose that. You want this one:

  • Need help editing scanned images of old photo album pages PSE 9

Before I begin this project, I thought I'd get some advice from someone who has undertaken a similar project.  I have three photo albums from the 50's and 60's.  The albums were made by my mother who mounted the photos (mostly black and white but some color photos) on construction paper (of various colors) using the corner holders or glue.  She hand cut the construction paper so each page is not a perfect rectangle ( about 11" tall, 8.5" wide).  The pages were punched and put into a three-ring binder.
She added text to the edge of the photo and/or to the construction paper.  Each page contains one to 6 photos and text.  Each album has about 120 pages.  I want to keep the notes on the construction paper so I scanned each page into a TIF files, 400 dpi and stored the images in a separate folder for each volume.
I use (poorly) PSE 9.  I see it has a auto straighten/crop feature that can be used one photo at a time.  I tried the divide scanned images function and that did not fully separate all images on the page and also created an image for stray objects on the page such as an unused corner holder.  (I know those things have a better name but it escapes me now.)
I plan to create photo books for my siblings.  I am now thinking of cropping the image of each page (rather than each photo on the page) into a uniform size, adjusting levels, contrast and sharpness, saving this image to a JPEG file, and using these edited JPEG images to create the photo book.  Since each page was hand-cut, there will areas of white where one page was torn or cut smaller than another page.  Some pages will have blanks where old photos have been lost leaving behind only the corner things.  It won't be perfect but it will be an image of the album as it exists today.
    My questions are:
The pages are about 11 by 8.5.  Does anyone know a photo service that prints photo albums in a portrait layout in this size?  I  have been unable to find one; it looks like most online photo books are wider rather than taller.
Let's assume I use a company such as Shutterfly that offers a 12x12 format.  I assume it would be better to edit the images in PSE9 rather than any online software.  What should I do to keep the proportions in the current images true but make the image fit a 12x12 page, for example?
IS there any other editing software anyone can recommend that will speed this up, hopefully a software that would take multiple photos at one time, auto-straighten and auto crop to a set size?  And also auto contrast/level/sharp.  If I could use such auto features on these images and then go back and adjust the photos that did not play well with the auto features, that would save me time.
I appreciate anyone's input.  I dread doing this but we have one set of photos and 5 siblings so it has to be done.  Thanks!

    Hi,
Mentioning your issues one by one:
    1) PSE does not have any portrait Photobook available, so your thought was the best way to get the work done is by choosing the 12x12 - shutterfly one.
    2) PSe does a good job of editing the images. You can set your images of approx. 11x8  size to fit to the 12x12 page. Just choose a one photo page Layout for the page and then right click on the image to " Fit photo in the frame".
    3) If more edits are required for the image, you can easily go to Advanced mode and edit your photos, layouts, move the frames, images or add effects to the images.
    4) Photo book creation sure takes time. because, you want it to be the best. I am sure PSE would help you best here.
Go ahead and create you photobook. Inc ase you get stuck somewhere, you can always post here to get help!
    Cheers,
    Swarnima

  • "Edit in External Editor" PSE 13

I've recently upgraded Photoshop Elements to version 13.0.  In iPhoto (9.5.1) I have set the preferences to Edit Photos: in Photoshop Elements (the 13 icon.
Now from a control-click "edit in external editor" selection the action opens PSE13, but no photo is transferred for editing as was the case in the earlier version. Is this no longer supported - or have I missed a set-up step?

If PSE13 is installed similar to PSE 10 look for a folder inside the Adobe Photoshop Elements 13 folder called Support Files and select Adobe Photoshope Elements Editor.app.
FWIW the following may be of help in using PSE as the external editor with iPhoto:
Using Photoshop or Photoshop Elements as Your Editor of Choice in iPhoto.
1 - select Photoshop or Photoshop Elememts as your editor of choice in iPhoto's General Preference Section's under the "Edit photo:" menu.
2 - double click on the thumbnail in iPhoto to open it in Photoshop.  When you're finished editing click on the Save button. If you immediately get the JPEG Options window make your selection (Baseline standard seems to be the most compatible jpeg format) and click on the OK button. Your done.
3 - however, if you get the navigation window
that indicates that  PS wants to save it as a PS formatted file.  You'll need to either select JPEG from the menu and save (top image) or click on the desktop in the Navigation window (bottom image) and save it to the desktop for importing as a new photo.
This method will let iPhoto know that the photo has been editied and will update the thumbnail file to reflect the edit..
With Photoshop Elements  the Saving File preferences should be configured as shown:
I also suggest the Maximize PSD File Compatabilty be set to Always.  In PSE’s General preference pane set the Color Picker to Apple as shown:
    Screenshots are from PSE 10
Note 1:  to switch between iPhoto and PS or PSE as the editor of choice Control (right)-click on the thumbnail and select either Edit in iPhoto or Edit in External Editor from the contextual menu. If you use iPhoto to edit more than PSE re-select iPhoto in the iPhoto General preference pane. Then iPhoto will be the default editor and you can use the contextual menu to select PSE for your editor when desired.
Note 2:  editing a RAW file with either PSE or PS creates a new file which must be saved outside of iPhoto, i.e. the Desktop, and imported as a new photo into the iPhoto Library.

  • Photos fail to print after editing with clone stamp tool and layers

After editing using the clone stamp tool and using layers the photos fail to print.  I even tried a simple crop edit and the photo failed to print.
    Photos print without editing.

Im working on a Mac OX 10.9.4 and Photoshop Elements 12 for Mac
I tried printing from Organizer and editor and I have the image saved on my desktop
I don't receive an error when I try to print. The message usually reads: Printing, 2% complete or 13% complete.
I have left it sit overnight but it never produced a photo.
The printer is new: HP Envy 5400 and I have no problem printing photos from I Photo.

You might also ask for help in the Lightroom forum.
What I have found is that when I upgraded from PSE12 to 13, my Lightroom 5.6 still selected PSE12 in the list of external editors. I had to use the preferences menu to select the right PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe in the Program Files/Adobe/Photoshop Elements 13 folder. I got a message stating that Photoshop Elements was already selected as external editor. In that message box, there is a button with the option to 'change anyway', which I did. Now LR correctly opens PSE13 when I choose Edit in Elements.

  • Cant print photos in Photoshop 12 Photo Editor but can from Organizer

I cannot print single photos in my Photoshop 12 Elements Photo Editor but I can through the Organizer. I have no problems printing photos from all other software  on my computer.
    This is a recent development.
    I'm using a PC [Windows 7].
Would reinstalling Photoshop Elements 12 [or 13] resolve the problem or is there a simpler way to get the Photo Editor to print?

    Hi,
    Please rename opm.db file @:
    Win:C:\Users\<user ame>\AppData\Local\Adobe\OOBE
    Mac:Users Library/Application Support/Adobe/OOBE
    Sign in again.

  • Lines printing in edited photos on 3 HP printers

We have three HP printers - one F4280 all-in-one and one 990cse connected to the same Vista computer and one 990cse connected to an XP. They are all printing horizontal lines in portrait view edited photos and vertical lines in landscape view. The lines are distinct about 1/16th of an inch wide and spaced about 1/16th of an inch apart and down the entire photo. This happens whether I have scanned the photo or gotten it from some other source. It is happening no matter what editing program I use - even if I only crop it using Windows Photo Gallery.
I recently purchased a new photo editing program in hopes of correcting the problem, but I still have the same problem. I start with a fresh photo (one that I have never edited) and, after I edit it, there are never any lines visible on the screen but the printed page has the lines on it - like dark burgandy across a black dress - and light rose across lighter areas, but always distinct even lines. I like to edit photos and have been editing photos for years. I quit for a while and came back to it recently and have been having this problem. I would so much appreciate help.
Addendum: One thing that worked for me just yesterday - I printed two 5x7 .tif photos on one page from the Windows Photo Gallery, and they didn't have the lines. I used HP premium plus photo paper glossy and set the printout for regular premium paper. When I had set it for premium photo paper, the lines printed. I tried this because when I printed that one on regular premium paper, I didn't get the lines. So, this morning I tried printing the same photo with premium plus photo paper and set for regular premium paper and that printed without lines also !! The picture is better on the photo paper even though the print setting was not for the photo paper. (I had scanned the photo from a full page 8.5x11 copy of the photo.) I am hopeful, but a little skeptical as to whether this will always work. Has another solution been found? Thank you.

This only works for me with Windows Photo Gallery. When I try to print a Word Perfect document with an inserted picture or an Adobe Acrobat document that has a picture, the lines are there. I can create the WP document and save it, then save it as a .pdf document, then save the .pdf document as a .tif photo, then print the .tif photo from the Windows Photo Gallery. These are the step that I used to print:
    right click on the photo,
select Preview (and it should open in the Windows Photo Gallery) or select "Open With" and select Windows Photo Gallery,
select Print (and a print menu will show across the top),
    from the menu:
    select your printer,
select Paper size (I have only tried Letter size for this),
select Quality (mine is working at 300x300 dots per inch),
select Paper type as hp premium paper (not photo paper),
(I deselect the "Fit picture to frame," a personal preference)
insert photo paper in printer and print.
I had received a copy of my grandmother's picture (only one in existence as far as I know) and I so wanted to get a good printout after editing out some tears and I was able to get a good full page photo print by using this method. Maybe this will help someone else.
I hope that someone can come up with a solution where pictures can be printed from any program. I would like to know if there is a solution. With three HP printers on hand, I don't want to start replacing printers.

Thanks Larry. That certainly gives me some understanding. Can't imagine I'm the only Aperture user with that concern, so I certainly hope Adobe and others will fill the void. Without that feature, Photos is pretty much a non-started for me.

  • MacOSX Photos App (versus iPhoto): edit in external editor?

Just a quickie to see if my deduction is correct. In the new Photos app on OSX I can find no manner via which to "Edit in external editor" as is (was?) possible in iPhoto. I deduce the manner for this now, is to export a photo, edit it (and rename if so desired), then re-import it. Correct? (No more of the handy, immediate-seeming path.)

I just realized that Photos doesn’t have a Feedback feature and at the moment there’s no Photos support there. Hold that thought and look back at the Apple Feedback site I linked to. With luck in a short while we can feedback our wishlist on Photos. I know this one is high on my list.
