Print preset defaults to (custom) after change in qty

Sorry. It's complicate to describe in one line (and even harder to search for an answer).
I'm using CS4 on a desktop PC.
When I change to my special printer presets, the quantity to print default is 1. Of course.
When I change the quantity to a number other than one... the print preset returns to (custom), which is the default.
and alternately
If I start by changing the print quantity, followed by changing the print preset, the quantity defaults back to 1.
I need to print the same document multiple times, and it's rather frustrating...
help?

The presets are extremely customized. It took me an hour to set each one up. (there are three presets that I use on a regular basis). Yes, all the settings go back to the default and thus is not functional for my purposes.
File > Print Presets > <your preset> leads me to the exact same problem. When I change the quantity it returns to (custom)
Is there somewhere else I can look for troubleshooting information? I was at a complete loss for how to search for my strange problem...

  • Print presets not keeping settings after saved?

I've created a preset to have the object printed to Scale at 100%, but none of the settings stick. I turned off Auto Rotate, set it to Landscape, and set it to Scale-100%, but after every print job it goes back to Auto Rotate: On, Portrait, and Scale to Fit: Print Entire Image.
Scale is the important one here, the others were just tests to see if any settings I change are staying, however none of them seem to. Any ideas? This is on a 2.66GHz Intel Core2Duo running 10.6.8.
Thanks in advance for any help, this is really frustrating!

Yes, it works fine when I hit Print that first time, it's when I go BACK to do more using what should be a preset that the settings aren't sticking. If I make a preset, I shouldn't have to change the settings every single time, since that sort of negates the point of a preset.

  • Printer working Scanner not working after changing to a static ip address

I have an HP 7500A wide format printer.  I recently added a second router at my house to extend my wifi signal.  After that, the printer kept dropping the network connection.  So I set a static ip address of 192.168.1.250 for the printer.  Now the network connection seems solid, but when I try to scan from the Scan3 software on my Mac, it says it cannot find the printer.  I have a MacPro running OS X 7.5.  Thanks for any help.
    This question was solved.

    Hi @Carpenter47
I am sorry to hear the issue is not yet resolved. Let's try something different. I have a feeling the issue might be related to the static IP address.  Please complete the following steps.
From the Home screen on the printer control panel, touch the Right Arrow button () to display the second navigation screen.
    Touch the Network icon.
Touch the Down Arrow () to select Restore Network Defaults, and then touch Yes to confirm that you want to restore the network defaults for the printer.
Return to the second navigation screen, and then touch the Down Arrow to select Wireless.
Touch the Down Arrow to select Wireless Radio, and then touch Off to turn off the wireless radio on the printer.
Return to the Wireless Radio menu item, and then touch On to turn the wireless radio back on.
    Now put the printer back on the network using the steps below;
On the printer control panel, touch the Right Arrow (), and then touch Network.
Touch Wireless, touch Wireless Setup Wizard, and then touch OK.
Touch the name of your network.
If the list does not contain your network name, follow these steps to enter it manually:
Touch Enter New Network Name (SSID).
Enter your network name. Make sure that you type the uppercase (capital) and lowercase (small) letters exactly. Otherwise, the wireless connection will fail.
When you finish entering the new network name, touch Done, and then touch OK.
Touch Infrastructure, and then touch WEP encryption or WPA encryption.
If you do not want to use encryption (a security password), touch No, my network does not use encryption.
If prompted, enter the WEP or WPA key, touch Done, and then touch OK to confirm. The printer attempts to connect to the network.

At this point, you should now be able to Browse devices in the Scan software and see the printer. I understand you created a static IP because of having a second router, but let's back peddle for a moment to see if we can get the scanning working again. Typically having a second router causes issues as the printer detects 2 access points and I guess you could say 'it gets confused, but we will see what happens with a automatic IP address and go from there.

  • Possible to change active print preset across documents via scripting?

Hi everybody. I have a ton of documents that were created previously, and the default/custom print preset is selected any time I go to print them. I'm going to be printing them using a script, but I would like to change the active preset in each document to a new preset I have created for this job. Basically, I just need a script which I can apply at the folder level which will change the active print preset for the documents and save them. Thanks in advance for the help!

You should be able to open each document, and then set app.document[i].printPreferences.activePrinterPreset.

  • Changing printer presets (big sigh)

i have about twelve mac printer presets for my laptop (Mountain Lion) and twelve for my desktop (Lion) and i expect to be creating more.
today i realize that it might be better for me to have all of these set as two-sided prints and actually i need to check some other settings that i may have missed (because they are squirrelled away in hard to find places).
is it necessary for me to RECREATE each of these presets from scratch?
right now i am going into the EDIT PRESETS pulldown in the PRINT pulldown (for instance i am in Safari right now) then i go select one of these presets, i hit Duplicate - and then i try and change the settings and none of this seems editable. i also tried to edit the original presets in this dialog interface and these items do not seem to be editable.
i can't tell if i am missing something or if this part of lion or mountain lion has simply been profoundly overlooked for some reason. since i print a TON of documents for my work the amount of time spent in here since moving to mac is extremely frustrating and i had thought that spending time making presets for every frequently used print config was the answer to all my headaches but now i am not so sure this isn't another level of headache...
    what am i missing?

This sounds like you have selected the "Show Presets" setting in the Presets menu. No need to do this. Simply select to print and then select the Preset you want to modify from the drop menu.
    hotwheels 22 wrote:
but if i go to something like "Copies and Pages" (where of course i am going to find "Two Sided") i see that this two sided setting is off but i don't see any way to edit.
If it is just a checkbox, then put a tick in it. You should have the option to select it. Presets don't lock you out from making changes. They simply set the print dialog to your preferred settings.
    hotwheels 22 wrote:
similarly if i go to "Layout" i see another "Two Sided" (good god almighty am i an idiot and this is some kind of different setting for two sided - or is this UI just terrible) - but again i have no way to edit this AFAIK.
The Two-Sided you see in Copies and Pages is like an alias to the same setting in Layout. It just gives the user easy access to the same setting that Apple deems to be important enough to replicate it to the default page (ie Copies and Pages).
Now it does not matter which setting you use, enabling one will enable the other. But you should be able to enable then with the Preset for one sided selected. And after enabling the Two Sided setting, you should then be able to re-save this Preset with the new setting.

i don't want to sound cranky but man is this UI not sexy enough for a developer to spend a little time making more functional or are they trying to run some kind of passive-aggressive routine where if printing is too much of a hassle they think they can wean me off of paper (i'm just joking but the more i get in here the more tricky it all becomes).
You certainly do appear to have some issue with the print dialog. As a Windows and Mac user, I don't see the Mac print dialog providing any less function or being more complicated than what Windows offers. Maybe in your attempt to simplify your usage you are actually overcomplicating things?
If you find that you still cannot edit an existing Preset then it may be easier to delete it and then create a new one.
I would also suggest that you just create a few Presets for the most common print outputs you require. If you have a Preset for every type of print output that you could ever want, then you are definitely making too much ongoing work for yourself.

  • My Mac is set to print in grayscale by default and I am not sure how to change this.  The print setup defaults to Colorsync under Color Management and Colorsync is stuck on Mode "Gray"

My Mac can print color if I change from Colorsync to "in printer" or if I manually change the colorsync profile, but this has to be done every print and is quite time consuming.  Can someone help me change the default Colorsync profile or change Color Mangement to default to "in printer"?  After 3 days of this I am already tired of this,  And before it is asked I do not know what has changed to cause this.  Wednesday was the first time I had needed to print on this particular Mac since March and it was already stuck in grayscale.

You can select your preferred set of printing perferences and "Save as Default".
Or you can blow it all away and "Reset the Printing System" which takes you back to NO printers installed, and add the Printers back in.
To reset the printing system (if necessary)
Control-click or right-click a print queue in the "Printers" pane.
Choose "Reset printing system..." from the contextual menu.
Click "OK" in the "Are you sure..." confirmation sheet
This un-installs all printers. You can then add them back in one at a time, and they should come in with default settings.

You might try resetting the printer.  It could clear your issue.
    Steps
Press the Power button () to turn on the product.
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
    Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button () to turn it on.

  • Default printing presets

Does anyone know of a way to make the "preset" field in the Print dialog box always default to a particular value?
The current behavior, in Leopard at least, is for the preset field to be set to the previous choice. I typically print using a preset called "Grayscale" but then change to "Color" for one job. I would prefer that preset is reset back to "Grayscale" the next time I try to print. At the moment it stays at "Color" until I reselect "Grayscale."
I've poked around the plist files that seem to be related to printing with no luck. Anyone have another suggestion?

You can change the printer defaults via the CUPS web page. But by default, the CUPS page is blocked. To enable it, open Terminal and type "sudo cupsctl WebInterface=yes" (without the quotation marks). Enter the admin password when prompted and then refresh the browser view.
With CUPS web page open, select the Printers tab and then select the printer you want to modify. Then from the Administration drop menu, change to "Set Default Options".
This will show a new page with four menu headings (links); Options Installed, General, Banners and Policies. Select General.
Scroll down the list until you find the option you want to set as default.
With the option select you then need to scroll down the list to the bottom of the page where you will see the ‘Set Default Options’ button.
When you click the 'Set Default Options' button you will then be presented with an authentication window. Enter the account name and password that has been set as the admin for this Mac. And then press the Log In button. You will then see another page stating that the information change is completed.
You can now exit the CUPS admin page and check that the change is set.

    Hi,
Try saving your settings as a Preset by clicking the Preset drop down and then select Save Current Settings as a Preset.
Next try changing the settings by selecting the saved preset.
That allow saving the settings for a specific printer, I assume it may also allow selecting these settings for another printer.

  • Change print presets Officejet Pro 8600

Because of a glitch I had to re-install my printer.  That went just fine, but now I need to add some new print presets, e.g., Color Draft, Color Normal, B&W Draft, B&W Normal.  I cannot remember how I did this in the past and need help.  All I can find is checking out the default presets, but I can't find anyplace to set new presets.  Can someone help?  Thank you in advance.

    Greetings ,
I would be delighted to help you setup up printing presets on your Mac 10.10 for your Officejet Pro 8600. First you would want to choose the all the settings you want saved for your first preset. You can find several of these settings in; Choose advanced print settings document from Apple support. I've copied the basic instructions from Save your print settings to use later and added some images for you; Save your settings as a preset;Open a document, then choose File > Print  (Command + P)
NOTE: You may have to click Show Details (Or down arrow in top right corner)Choose any print settings you want to save as a presetClick the Presets drop-down menu, see arrow in image
Click Save Current Settings as Preset...
Enter a name for the preset settings, then choose whether to use the preset for only the currently selected printer or all printers.
To change or delete your preset settings;Click the Presets drop-down menu again, this time click Show Presets
From here you can delete or duplicate presets
Print with your preset settings:Choose File > Print (Command + P)Click the Presets pop-up menu, then choose your preset. If you don't see the Presets pop-up menu, click Show Details. You see all presets available for that printer. If you don't see a preset that you expect in the list, it's possible that you created that preset for only a specific printer. Please let me know if these steps resolved your issue, or if there is anything else I can do to help.  I look forward to hearing from you!   Thanks,

  • Can I modify default print "Presets"

    Hi -
We recently purchased a Ricoh color-laser multi-function device that prints in color and black/white. Under "Printer Features/Color Mode" within the Print dialog, I can select "Black and White" or "Color" (the default is "Color"). I know how to use 'Presets' within the Print dialog to create a preset that automatically uses the "Black and White" mode.
In order to avoid accidently using color toner, I would like to be able to have the Print command AUTOMATICALLY default to this "Black and White" mode. (I.E., I would like for "Black and White" to be the default under "Printer Features / Color Mode".
Is this possible? (Does this make sense?)
    Thanks -

    Hello doogles,
If your Ricoh is a PostScript device and therefore uses a PPD, you could modify the PPD so that b&w was the default rather than color (which I believe is what you were actually asking about).
Below is some information I have used for our previous Canon iRC3200 which used an imagePASS (Fiery) C1.
    1. Open the PPD in a text editor of some sort.
    2. Go to the section describing:
    *OpenGroup: FPColorWise1/ColorWise1
    *%EFIFlags *EFColorMode Spooler|Command|Column|Setup|Rerip
    *%EFIGroup *EFColorMode FPColorWise/ColorWise
    *OpenUI *EFColorMode/Color Mode :PickOne
    *OrderDependency: 12.0 AnySetup *EFColorMode
    **DefaultEFColorMode: EFColorModeDEF*
    *EFColorMode EFColorModeDEF/Printer's default: ""
    *EFColorMode CMYK/CMYK: " userdict /XJXsetcolormode known
    { (CMYK) XJXsetcolormode } if "
    *End
    *EFColorMode GRAY/Grayscale: " userdict /XJXsetcolormode known
    { (Grayscale) XJXsetcolormode } if "
    *End
    *?EFColorMode: " currentpagedevice /ProcessColorModel get == } if "
    *CloseUI: *EFColorMode
    *CloseGroup: FPColorWise1
This is the section in the PPD that relates to the Color Mode and what options that will be displayed in the properties of the driver.
    3. Change this section to this:
    *%EFIFlags *EFColorMode Spooler|Command|Column|Setup|Rerip
    *%EFIGroup *EFColorMode Color/Color
    *OpenUI *EFColorMode/Color Mode :PickOne
    *OrderDependency: 12.0 AnySetup *EFColorMode
    **DefaultEFColorMode: GRAY*
    *EFColorMode EFColorModeDEF/Printer's default: ""
    *EFColorMode GRAY/Grayscale: " userdict /XJXsetcolormode known
    { (Grayscale) XJXsetcolormode } if "
    *End
    *?EFColorMode: " currentpagedevice /ProcessColorModel get == } if "
    *CloseUI: *EFColorMode
The changes to the original ppd are setting the "DefaultEFColourMode" to "Grayscale" and removing the "EFColorMode CMYK..." entry.
    4. With the changes made to the ppd, create a new printer but point to the modified PPD.
If the Ricoh uses a proprietary printer language rather than PostScript, then it may not be possible to change.
However, if the machine also supports PCL6, you could create another printer queue to the Ricoh and select the Generic PCL6 driver included with OS X. You could then call this queue B&W and have this set as the default printer. Then, if the user wants to print color, they simply select the current Ricoh driver.
Note that the Generic drivers have limitations regarding finishing and don't support some larger paper sizes, such as A3. But if these are not required, then it may prove an easy alternative to modifying the PPD.

  • Does anyone know a way to modify "Default Settings" printer preset?

I use enough different presets that I find that the "Last Used" preset for printing if often what not what I really want.
(Background: I save a number of different profiles for different types of print jobs, so that I can select "Color Production" as a preset, for example, and get a number of printer settings configured as once, like Color Settings, Quality, Color, and duplexing.  These are set and selected using the "Presets" picker in the Print dialog box.  One can use the picker to save and view settings as well.)
Am I correct in that there doesn't seem to be a way to change the "Default Settings" preset?  The "Show Presets" pick in Presets doesn't offer the ability to change the presets, and the "Default Settings" preset can't be deleted here, unlike the user set presets; it also isn't possible to save a preset as "Default Settings".
Ideally, changing the default would let me check the box to always use the default (as default), but this way I would have my own defaults.  Just wondering whether I'm missing something obvious - I've tried the modifier keys trick clicking on things, and also the CUPS subsystem at localhost:631.

  • Cannot change Print Presets in iPhoto 08

Although I have saved multiple printing presets for other applications, in iPhoto 08 only "Standard" is available. This holds for all user accounts. Any way to correct this?
The problem is that "standard" prints on standard paper for my ink jet. Photos are therefore printed in low res.

Try the simple fix: delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder, launch iPhoto and try again.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.
