Print problem after OS 10.4.8 install

Hi,
Loaded OS 10.4.8 on Dual 2ghz G5 yesterday and now realize can't print to HP 5000n networked printer unless I use a gimp print driver. This driver is not a solution since installable printer options are not available (ie printing to 3rd paper tray).
• HP 5000n driver causes program from which I am trying to print to suddenly quit.
• Using generic driver gives a message stating that the printer is busy and system will retry in 30 secs.
• Can print to Xerox phaser just fine.
Tried some suggestions from earlier posts:
Reloaded driver from HP site
Repaired permissions
Delete Print Prefs - and rebooted.
Reset Printing System.
All to no avail.
Might have to wait for an OS 10.4.9 fix but thought I'd throw the problem out there just in case.

I had exactly the same problem with a HP printer.
As I wrote in another post, after upgrading to 10.4.8 I could not print from any application. Just pressing file/print and no print-menu was there, instead the application was crashing.
What I did was the following:
-gone to www.macupdate.com and downloaded Printer Setup Repair.
-Installed and launched it, then gone to PPD installation/removal and removed all the PPD, any language, both from /Library/Printers and /System/Library/Printers.
-Now the printer was working, but seen only as a Generic Postscript Printer. Since I would like to have some of the installable options it provides, then I went on trying to re-istall the PPD file.
-Then from the HP website I downloaded the last driver for my printer (it is a LaserJet 4350dtn) and installed it
-New gz (compressed) files appear in /system/library/printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/en.lproj/ they are all from HP, of course.
-Double clicked on the one for LaserJet 4350
-Back to Printer Setup Repair, gone now to "select PPD file" in the panel PPD installation/removal and chosen the file just decompressed before. Then installed it: I have chosen only english language and put in /library/printers
-Now I installed my printer again in Printer Setup Utilily and it is working again: now when I press file/print from any application, the correct Print menu shows up and I can print.

Printing Problems after Reader 10 install

Recently deployed Reader 10 to about 300 workstations using Group Policy. Several machines are no longer able to print to some of the network printers. These printers are HP printers using the Universal Print Driver. When trying to print we get an error and the Adobe Reader application crashes. It will however print to other network printers that are using an older device specific driver, printing to the same print device. Have downloaded the latest HP driver, but it has not helped the situation. The printing worked fine with Reader 8 and Reader 9.   Anyone with an Idea?

Sorry only know Windows: Edit (menu)>Preferences>General>Application Startup>Enable Protected Mode at startup.

I am using a Mac 10.6 and cannot find the "Enable protected mode at startup" in General or any other options. Does anyone have an answer for Macs? Thanks.

Okay - So, I teach photography and have my students print contact sheets from iPhoto version 08. I have one student (out of forty) having the following problem (I have removed preferences, reinstalled iPhoto, used the iPhoto updater for 7.1.5, reloading the printer driver and upgrading the system software to 10.6.8 {I teach in a high school, so no funds for newer software})
The problem is isolated to one student - the others on the same machine do NOT have the same problem. When this student selects more than 5 images, the resulting output looks as if he has taken a screen shot - the palettes on the left of the frame show and the titles he has inserted (using Batch Change) are moved on to the pictures.
At this point, I am going to let him screenshot his submissions, just wondering if anyone else has had this problem.

Printer Problems after upgrade to Lion

Does anyone have this printer problem after upgrading to Lion. A perfectly functioning laser printer on my network prior to upgrade - now the network seems to drop the printer and show it as "not connected" approximately every 30 minutes ???

Been away and just got back to this issue.
Thanks for the info. The OKI site has now posted a list of all their Printers and their relative drivers for compatibility with "Lion". My machine is due an updated driver from OKI in Mid Decmber according to this notice.
Meanwhile, as the printer does work with some tweaking I guess I will use the work around until the new driver is available. My legacy printers that i use for special jobs both work and as I do not have the disks for their drivers I am loathe to re-set the printer system at this time.

Printing problems after installing the Epson Printer Driver 2.16

Has anyone experienced any problems after installing the Epson Printer Driver 2.16 through Software Update? I am having problems printing. It denotes an error message, specifically the rastertoescpii.app isn't working?

Oops, wanted everyone to know that the driver that Software Update downloaded and installed was 2.18, not 2.16 (which was the last one that worked for me). I just got done downloading the 2.18 driver directly from the Apple support website and installing it. Guess what? My printer is now working and everything is fine. If you are having issues, I suggest this route. Guess I solved my own problem, but hope this helps someone else.

PS CS6 having printer problems after Yosemite upgrade.

I've seen a lot of people having problems with this, and zero answers from Adobe. I'm running Photoshop on a 2012 iMac. I don't know what exactly triggers the problem, but it occurs when I'm changing the print settings for a document. All of a sudden I get this message:
There was an error opening your printer. Printing functions will not be available until you have selected a printer and reopened any documents.
And nothing, nothing will enable me to print from Photoshop ever again, except re-installing the whole program. This is a pain, of course, and I lose all my settings.
There seems to be an incompatibility between PS and older macs running Yosemite. I have not had the problem with my 2014 MacBook Pro--it prints fine from PS with the same printer. (A CanonMG5320, FWIW, but it seems to be happening to people across a range of printers.) I spent a lot of time in a fruitless text chat with someone at Adobe who disappeared after a bit and left me hanging.
Whose responsibility is this? Adobe's or Apple's?
I just wish someone would fix it.

Probably either Apple's or Canon's. There have been a lot of issues with he new Yosemite. First off, are you running the latest version of Yosemite (10.10.3)? Have you tried Re-installing the printer's drivers?

Acrobat 9 pro 9.4.5-printing problem after 6/8/2011update? 35mg pdf now creates 922mg print file

sent 35 mg pdf to printer sometime after 6/8/2011. file took long time to print, when I opened printer dialog box, it showed the file was 922 mg. Don't know if it was the update, but had no problem printing the same file before the update. Have windows xp pro. Another person in my office having same problem. Any ideas?

Having the exact same issues hear. Haven't been able to find a fix for it anywhere. It has the be the last update. Going to check if I can roll back to the previous update.

Officejet Pro K5400 printing problems after update to Mavericks OSX 10.9

Hi,
I have printing problems with my Officejet Pro K5400 after update to Mavericks OSX 10.9.
Now after printing 1 page the printer prints an extra page with '2345X' sentence on it. As this problem started right after updating, I suppose there is a problem with an update.

This patch did solve our problem with the K5400 feeding a "blank sheet".

Printer problems after 10.4.11

Hi,
after updating my Power Mac G4 to 10.4.11 I'm experiencing printer problems with all of my printers (HP, canon, Apple), no matter what application I'm using.
for example in Word 2003 I get the error message:
"Word cannot print due to a problem with the current printer".
Similar errors occur in other applications, so I'm guessing there's something wrong with my complete printer system.
Any ideas?

Printer problem after upgrading the Mac HD disk

After replacing the Mac HD on my Mac Pro, and copying all the "old" data from the "old" Mac HD using Migration Assistance, I cannot print. Getting "communication error". Re-installing drivers does not help. The printer is a Canon MF4350d connected over USB. Is there files somewhere (USB drivers?) that may affect this issue. Or can how can I delete all (Canon) printer drivers and make a clean install?

First, make a backup of all your data or you entire system. Then you will follow the instructions in the link below to erase the Yosemite volume and reinstall Yosemite from scratch. After assuring it is working properly you can restore your third-party software from original media. Be sure the software is compatible with Yosemite. Finally, restore your data from your backup.
Install or Reinstall Yosemite, Mavericks, Mountain Lion, or Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.

Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

Printer problems after upgrading. My kodak esp 5250 says it has the printer head jammed. Reloading the software let it work once. Obviously an interaction problem with Lion. Any ideas?

Only the obvious one: do you have the latest driver, and does that cope with Lion? Kodak's stated requirements include this, which is slightly suspect. Obviously an interaction problem with Kodak? Try exploring whatever help Kodak have.

I cannot find a solution to my printing problems since having updated to 10.4.6
I am using an HP Deskjet 3620 which worked fine with 10.4.5
Since the update, my printer settings have disappeared. When I try to add a printer, all I get is an error message. I have tried reinstalling the printer software, but I receive a message that I do not have a system folder. I have tried resetting my printer system but this does not solve the problem, nor has repaiting disk permissions.
Does someone have a solution?

Print problem after exporting Pages to PDF.

I am attempting to print a very large genealogical book (300 + pages) of my family's descendants and noticed that in both Preview and Adobe Reader the first character of every page is missing. This does not happen when printing from Pages so it cannot be a printer problem. I checked the placement of the print against the Pages page and both Preview and Adobe Reader are EXACTLY the one character difference with the pages exactly even with each other. The original page type is 12 pt with margins: Left .5in, Right .5in, Top .75in, Bottom .75in, no header, Footer .5in using 9 pt type. What is really odd is that the onscreen display is correct but only the printed (HP OJ6500E702n wireless duplex marginless printer) copy is incorrect which indicates to me the conversion is somehow creating this problem.
I need this PDF file as it is the file I print from plus I put the file on a disk as a backup for the paper book for all book recipients.

While this problem is for ANY application that EXPORTS, not prints, to a PDF format, I have discovered that the problem is probably be with the printer's minimum allowable margins being physically the same regardless of portrait or landscape instead of the logical rotation of margin type locations in landscape mode. Question answered by logic research.
