Print Proxy Queue Won't Quit

On my Brother MFC connected by USB, the printer proxy app won't quit after the print job ends, and you have to click the proxy app's icon in the Dock, then quit the app manually. (You have to close it, as the computer won't sleep by itself after x amount of time if the proxy app is left open.)
This is only intermittent. You can tell in advance if this is going to happen by not seeing a little piece of paper icon superimposed over the printer proxy app's icon in the Dock. No piece of paper icon = proxy app won't quit.
Tried reinstalling all drivers, archive/reinstall, using Printer Setup Repair to "reset the printing system," permissions, Cocktail to deep clean caches including printer caches, all to no avail. New printing cables, connected directly without a hub. Happened on my HP LaserJet 3330 which died, and now on my Brother MFC-2070. Happened when I was using a Titanium laptop also, before the current G4 tower. Happens across many apps, although Office seems to provoke it more frequently.
Ideas anyone, short of trying a totally clean install and reinstalling all apps an drivers from scratch to see if that helps? The OS install I'm working on is back from 10.2.0, and has been upgraded and archive/reinstalled multiple times, and has been used on multiple computers over the years. My Word 2004 Normal template dates back to Word 5.1 and has been converted/upgraded several times (6.0, 98, 2001, X, 2004; could this be a culprit as well); should I rebuild it from scratch (hours and hours of work there, many custom menus, etc).

  • Printer proxy problem? 300 jobs in my print queue.

I left my MacBook Pro on overnight. When I 'woke it up' about 24 hours later, I found that I had 303 documents in my print queue for my HP LaserJet 1320. Printer proxy has quit upon awakening in several instances before. This is the first time the queue has 'completed' printing of documents. Some of the documents were sensitive. Do you think my security/ID has been compromised?

“Windows Server Print Services 2012 Printer Queue” target is a part of  Windows Server Print management
pack which is useful for collecting the print queue information.
The Base windows MP wont be able to do this.

  • Printer won't quit after printing

After I print anything from my eMac to the HP laser printer it is hooked up to, the printer icon stays in the dock with the little arrow under it showing that it is open. It won't quit automatically; I have to manually go in and quit the printer. I tried looking in the dock and print preferences, but couldn't figure out how to get the printer to quit automatically once it is done. Any help would be appreciated, since this is a new computer in my school lab (although the machine itself isn't new), and the kids love to click on anything they see, so the less they see, the better.
    Thanks in advance!

    Hi
    I see.
Have you by chance set the Docked icon to Keep In Dock, found by clicking and holding down on the docked icon?
Furthermore you say the printer icon stays open showing a green arrow, so is that both the printer utility and the printer both showing in the dock?
i think normally, there should only be the printer utility, a green open printer symbol doesn't ring a bell, so to speak.

  • Printer proxy quit unexpectely message on mac book pro late 2011  os 10.8.2

I cannot print from my computer,I have always this message: Printer proxy quitted unexpectely message.I can print from my ipad,my iphone wireless but not with my mac book pro late 2011 vers. 10.8.2.Also I have VMWAre software with windows 7 and not possible anymore.
It was working and now nothing
    Thank you

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process (PrinterProxy) in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them (command-C) to the Clipboard. Paste (command-V) into a reply to this message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • Unable to print after migration - printer proxy crashes

I Recently migrated to an iMac and every time I try to print or open the print queue in System Preferences, the Printer Proxy quits unexpectedly.
    Anyone have any solutions?
    thanks!

I suggest to run the Reset printing system function.
*How to Reset the Printing System*
    1. Open System Preferences > Print & Fax
    2. Move your mouse over the Printers list
    3. Hold down the Control button and click the mouse (or right click if supported).
    4. Click "Reset printing system ..."
    5. Restart your Mac
This will remove your printer queue/s but not your printers drivers so you can add your printer queue/s again without having to install the driver.
Note that it is also possible to reset the printing system via Terminal via the following commmands.
    sudo cp /etc/cups/cupsd.conf /etc/cups/cupsd.conf.old
    sudo cp /etc/cups/cupsd.conf.default /etc/cups/cupsd.conf

  • Using Printer Proxy?

I have an HP deskjet 1050. Until now, it has printed without a problem anything I send it. Now, after an upgrade, it is being controlled by Printer Proxy. It won't print. I can't access the print jobs queue or anything else. At one time it told me my printer had paused, but no menu ever comes up.

What upgrade? How are you connected to the printer? How is it controlled by "Printer Proxy?" Have you the latest HP printer drivers?

  • Printer icon (queue) in Dock After Every Print.... WHY??

Anyone else experiencing this? After every single print job, on both my MacBook Pro and my iMac, I have to click on my printer icon (print queue box) and QUIT manually. This never happened before my 10.5 Leopard upgrade. Same printer as before, same computers as before. Is this some kind of new setting? Why do I have to see/close the print queue after every single print job sent? This is so time consuming and becoming very annoying. Is this a bug in Leopard or is there a setting that changed after my 10.5 Leopard upgrade???

i was having the same problem, did a quick search in the forums, and found that this is already discussed and solved several times

  • IPhoto 8.1.2 won't quit

iPhoto 8.1.2 on an i5 iMac won't quit after I added 2 photos and printed them.
Yes I have 10K photos in the library but surely the i5's four processors allow things to regroup efficiently.
The Activity Monitor is busy of course (17 threads) so I'm going to leave it until it quits....hopefully today !

Often a symptom of a damaged Library.
    If necessary Froce Quit. Then:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one. .

  • Premiere Pro won't Quit or Close a Project (Mac)

    Hello,
This only affects a specific user account. Premiere Pro CS6 won't quit or close a project--nothing happens. Haven't been able to figure out what the cause is. I've tried blowing away the user's preferences.
What other local user files does Premiere screw with that could cause this behavior?
    Cheers,
    Casey

one more thing, this could be helpful if anyone else is running the same problem.
I found that if you save the encoder queue and close the encoder, then you can close the premiere project without crashing premiere.
but also found that AE does exactly the same, if you are editing a AE link comp you will need to close and quit after effects before changing premiere project

  • I've tried to troubleshoot downloading Firefox but it won't open on Windows XP. The Firefox Update box with the hour glass symbol runs for hours. Then I have trouble even shutting down. When I click on Firefox, no window, program won't quit, etc....

Windows XP. I used to use Firefox and it worked okay. I'm not sure why I downloaded a new version but it won't open. The window that says "Firefox Update" continues to try to load. Hour glass symbol, for hours. If I try to click on the Desktop symbol, Nothing. Then when I try to shut down, it's slow, programs won't quit, or it freezes. I've removed Firefox completely and tried downloading again with the same results. Even with the latest version. Shit. Whassup?

Hi zenithtwc, to test whether this is a settings issue, could you do a three-minute experiment?
    '''Create a new Firefox profile'''
A new profile will have your system-installed plugins (e.g., Flash) and extensions (e.g., security suite toolbars), but no themes, other extensions, or other customizations. It also should have completely fresh settings databases and a fresh cache folder.
Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager using Start > search box (or Run):
    firefox.exe -P
''Don't delete anything here.'' Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.
Click the Create Profile button, assign a name like Test731, and skip the option to change the folder location. Then start Firefox in the new profile you created.
    Can it reach the internet?
When returning to the Profile Manager, you might be tempted to use the Delete Profile button. But... it's a bit too easy to accidentally delete your "real" profile, so I recommend resisting the temptation. If you do want to clean up later, I suggest making a backup of all your profiles first in case something were to go wrong.

  • How do i fix my printer when it won't show the print preview for web pages? it worked and now not.

how do i fix my printer when it won't show the print preview for web pages?  it worked for a while and now it doesn't.  printer is an hp officejet 7310 all-in-one.

I would suspect this is a hardware issue.  The rollers are probably having issues picking up the relatively smooth thick media.  You might have better results be cleaning the paper pickup rollers with a damp paper towel.  Also make sure the paper is snugly loaded and the paper guides have been correctly positioned.

  • How do I change security preferences to let me install an HP printer driver? Won't let me because not an "identified developer".

Downloaded a printer driver from HP website for a p1102w laser printer. When I try to run the install package, I get a pop-up telling me that only App Store and "identified developers" application are allowed dur to my security preferences. When I try to change in System Preferences, the option to change is grayed out.

  • IPhoto 09 Faces wheel spins forever and/or won't quit

Hope someone has insight or it helps others...
For the last several days any import into iPhoto will set it into spinning the Faces album waiting wheel forever. There is no way to Quit. Other times just simple quitting won't work.
Activity shows 40-50% iPhoto CPU usage, lots of context switches (270,000 in 5 minutes of CPU time) but no hangs, no faults. I have previously let it run overnight, in case it was somehow reanalyzing 18000 images, but even then the problem remains.
    Console shows: 10/12/09 3:55:58 PM iPhoto[653] * -[NSPathStore2 getCharacters:range:]: index (8) beyond bounds (3)
as most recent item from iPhoto in the log.
Looking inside the iPhoto Library folder the face.db database, iPhotoMain.db etc. have no activity going on. ( I tested by changing the face info on one picture, the Finder last modified date immediately changed, showing the processes are running fine, but just some runaway process won't quit.)
Another console item showed iPhoto finding wrong architectured PGP plugin in contextual menu items, so I have trashed that. And, it finds a Chronos Notes related issue (contextual menu item in library and same named alias in user/library) throw an exception. I also informed ChronosNet.com of this....in case the recent iPhoto acting up is related to the SOHO update that was recently installed.
"I've had iPhoto start acting up (fails to quit) since SOHO NOTES latest update... checking the Console shows a possible problem....
You have a contextual menu entry (alias) in user/library and same name (original item) in library. That makes apps like iPhoto throw exceptions...
10/12/09 4:29:33 PM [0x0-0x40040].com.apple.iPhoto[653] objc[653]: Class SBContextualMenuHelper is implemented in both /Users/imran/Library/Contextual Menu Items/ChronosNotesCM.plugin/Contents/MacOS/ChronosNotesCM and /Library/Contextual Menu Items/ChronosNotesCM.plugin/Contents/MacOS/ChronosNotesCM. One of the two will be used. Which one is undefined."
    Let's see what they state.
Now.... Force quitting now to see what it shows in the logs:
It did not show any quick console messages. I'm surprised an OS X "report this crash to Apple" window did not open up.
Now relaunched... will see if it happens again...
    Imran

iPhone is not "hung" in the traditional sense in that you can do several things within it while it's non-stop Faces spinning wheel displays. I do NOT find it responsive and it does NOT Quit when Faces is spinning forever. tgardner, your experience appears to be different.
Checking in Activity Monitor shows that interestingly there are no hangs or errors. But, looking into contents of iPhoto library shows NO files are modified even after 24 hours or running. In other words, maybe it's not dead, but it is comatose.
Also, checking in Console I always see a variable out of bounds error when this happens.
I have 19000 images and of those maybe 5000 have faces, of about 50 people. ALL of those images are already processed with Names info. Even if Faces needs to update some data, 24 hours of nothing but iPhoto running ought to be enough but it is not.
Others may want to check Console and Activity Monitor and add their experiences here.
    regards
    IMRAN
