Print quality very poor

Estimated print levels are OK - black is getting low but no warning.  Diagnostic page prints OK except for black.  On any print black is very faint.  This is the most recent of a string of problems with this printer.  I have used HP for years but am losing faith.  This printer is just not good.

The troubleshooting steps in the document here may help resolve black not printing properly on your Photosmart 6520.
I have also asked to have one of the HP support folks take a look at this thread, they may have additional suggestions.

  • Hardcover Book Print Quality = Very Poor!

In the past with iPhoto 4 & 5, I have ordered and recieved hardcover books of very high print quality. I have just recieved my first hardcover book using iPhoto 6.01, and the print quality is down right poor and unacceptable. My high resolution shots all look extremely grainy and "poster-ized". The contrast on most shots is all out of sorts. I have read other posts regarding local printing of books (using your home printer, etc.) and people are sayint the same things. It looks like v.6 has some output problems which Apple must resolve. Until then, no more books for me (But how will we know when this issue is fixed?? Wait a while, take our chances, and order another one?).
    STEVE

I'm pushing Apple to provide full printing specs on the books, using some enterprise-level contacts to try to get around the lack of response from the official consumer support channel. I have an open ticket with the print services support people as well. I'll post info here in the "Photo book quality" topic:
    http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=313677&tstart=15
if and when I get answers.
Meanwhile, you might want to consider asking for a refund. Others have had success doing so.

  • Print quality seems poor

I've just printed some sample pictures from iPhoto 6 and am really disappointed by the quality. I have set the print dialogue to Photo Quality and all the settings look right but the printouts appear really grainy. Is there a way of choosing the dithering settings? Even better would be to turn dithering off - can I do this?
For reference I have printed the same images with Canon's clunky EasyPhotoPrint and the difference in quality is amazing.
Anybody got any ideas as to how to make things better in iPhoto?

anyone ever get an answser to this?

  • IDVD quality very poor

    Hi,
I have H.264 footage from a 5D MkII edited in iMovie and burnt in iDVD. When playing back the project in iDVD (before burn) the quality is fine but once its on disc the quality is so poor, extremely crunchy, pixelated and beyond acceptable. I've even converted the footage in MPEG stremclip and NeoScene to test the results but same results.
    PLEASE HELP!!!
    Thankyou

    Hi
As I get it it depends on what You feed iDVD and how in a way.
I go direktly from iMovie 5 or HD 6 (iMovie 08 & 09 are not for DVD making!)
I don't use Export/Share to iDVD from within iMovie. If there are photos included
and no Ken-Burns effect. Result will be BAD due to iMovie rendering and iMovie
movie project is harmed - photos has to be re-imported and edited in again.
Now I close iMovie and from iDVD import the movie project resulting in iDVD doing the rendering
    and so much better.
From FinalCut Express or Pro I do
    • Export out as QuickTime .mov
    • Not selfcontainong
    • NO QuickTime Conversion
    • Pro Quality Encoding
    • Verbatim DVD-R disks
    • x1 or x4 burn speed
    • 25Gb or more free space on internal boot hard disk
This works nicely and delivers a result as I intended
    Using strange file formats like
    • .avi, .wmv will give strange if any result
    • .H.264 - Should may be work - have nothing to put on test - or may be not working

  • Audio Quality very poor

    1) Audio will go out of sync within a few seconds - pausing corrects the problem, but it will reoccur
    2) Absolutely horrible sound distortion - screeching. Changing setting in Audio Midi.app will sometimes correct the problem, but it's completly random and inconsistent.
I have the same issues when playing back content in iTunes or via Quicktime player. The same issues occur on both Minimac & MBP, both SLepoard machines which are very well spec'd and no other unnessecary programs are running. The content works fine on OS devices.
I've trashed all .plist files related to audio and iTunes - but to no avail.
It's completely random - sometimes it's OK, sometimes it's not. Same content works fine & sometimes it's not.
Really irritating and time consuming and ruining viewing quality.

    Hi all
How about trying this on W530? I am not sure how well would those settings work on W530.

  • Quality very poor for exported iMovies

I have created a movie in iMovie v 2.0 (791) for iPad. I have an iPad mini.
The video itself looks fantastic in iMovie and in my photos, but on Facebook & Youtube it looks horrible. Grainy. I have tried exporting Medium, Large & the highest HD size. Nothing makes a difference. This is a movie for my business and I need to fix asap. I keep posting and deleting because it looks so unprofessional. Please help!

So I did figure it out, after a friend's son who works at the Apple store told me how. You can't upload from your iPad (or any iOS device) without the file compressing, which causes the bad quality. So I had to hook up my iPad to my Mac, and through Image Capture, upload the file. Then I loaded directly from Finder to both Youtube & FB and it worked great.

  • Deskjet 4480 - Print Quality is Poor

The print is not uniform.  Part of it is fine but then a letter or two will be faint or incomplete.  It acts like my old printer did when inkjets needed cleaning.  Is there a way to do this?  The ink cartridge is fairly new and worked fine until recent;ly.

Actually, you can get to it from the Print Booklet dialog. I'm on Windows, but it should be similar on Mac.
In the Print Booklet dialog, click the Print Setup button to open the printer dialog (looks just like the regular ID print dialog, because it is). Presumably you've already selectred Adobe PDF as the printer. Click the setup button in this dialog, and then the preferences button in the next one. You'll see the settings for the PDF Printer Driver. Top dropdown is labeled "Default Settings" and is probably set to "Standard," which is what you want to change.
I'd recommend going into the PDF printer properties through the Windows Printers folder, or through the Mac printer utility, and change the default there, too. Pick something you would use most of the time, and then you won't have to reset it every time you print to PDF. "Standard" is a low-res, convert to RGB settings file.

  • Very poor print quality when printing out photos.

I used an IPhone 4S and no matter what quality of paper I used the photo came out indistinct andof very poor quality. I am using brand new HP inks.

    Hi,
Just a question: do you know what is the quality (resolution) of the photo on your phone ?

  • C4180 poor print quality

I've had my c4180 for a couple of years without any problems but the image print quality is now starting to deteriorate. When printing images on normal paper I usually print at maximum dpi but the quality is quite poor with white lines across the images. I've tried cleaning the print cartridges many times but it makes no difference. I've taken out the colour cartridge and given it a clean as recommended but still no improvement. There is just under half of the colour ink left so it's not because I'm running low either.
It's looking like I will need to buy a new printer which I really didn't want to have to do as it works perfectly apart from this.
    Can anyone suggest anything?
    Thanks in advance.

    43,
Ink has a limited life span.  It is sad, I know.  The ink in the printer may just be "old" beyond it's actual age.
I have an old J6480 that I use only occasionally -- it is such a good printer that I keep it in spite of the fact that I might have to change out the cartridges more frequently than when the unit actually runs out of ink.
You might change out the cartridges so you are not coating the insides of the printer with the old ink.
If you are not going to use the printer very often, it does seem to help to keep it stored in a cabinet: dark and enclosed where there is not an abundance of light, dust, dampness, or temperature differences.  I keep the J6480 in a cabinet on the other side of the house and use it wirelessly about every six months.
You may have to re-run the cleaning operation a couple of times after you do change the ink; change out the cartridges, test, and then decide.

  • Poor print quality with Epson Photo R265 - Please help

I am changing over from Windows to Mac and finding it 'challenging' - it's me; not the mac (which I love)I'm sure, so any help would be much appreciated.
My problem is: when I plugged my usb into the mac it instantly recognised my printer but when I printed a photo from iPhoto the quality was very poor with faded colours and faint lines.
I went hunting for an answer, and convinced I'd found it, I downloaded the latest drivers from Epson but on reprinting...exactly the same problems.
The on-screen quality is superb but on paper it's poor.
I'd really appreciate any suggestions or help. I'm not at all knowledgeable when it comes to computers.
    thank you
    Caroline

Both programs print very poorly. Either light and faded or streaker, or if I change the settings, very dark. Both useless. Frustrated I tried the same pics on Picassa on my Windows notebook. Quality was excellent. Put Picassa on the iMac and it now works great - in Picassa. how can that be?

  • L5780: first page or 2 print fine then poor quality print

The first few pages of print will be fine but then towards the end of the 3rd page there are horizontal streaks, the next page will be full of them getting worse as the page progresses.  I can wait a while (1/2 hour or so) get a good page but then back to the  horizontal streaks.
I replaced my print heads in August last year and had some issues with the black and yellow one which HP replaced (both of them went from green status to yellow status fairly quickly).  The new print head solved the issue for a while but now for months I've been dealing with this problem.
I have cleaned, aligned and calibrated and now after a 2nd cleaning the yellow print is a very poor quality.  I have HP, print heads, HP ink and HP paper.  I have the proper paper settings.  From what I have read it appears that it could be the black and yellow print head again, but that just seems odd that a 3rd one would go bad in this short time (the first ones I replace in August did not indicate they were bad and were still in a yellow status) .  I don't do a great deal of printing and this August was the first time I've replaced the print heads since I got the printer about 4 years ago.
I print most of my items from Micro Soft Word or Micro Soft Digital Image Suite 2006 Editor.

    See my answers below:
    a) The size of the pages of PDF which you are printing. LETTER
    b) Does all pages of the PDF are of same size? YES
    c) What is the page size set in the Printer and what is the actual size of the paper which you have put in the tray? LETTER
    d) Does this problem also happens on the virtual printer which you might have on your system (Try either Microsoft MPS Document writer or Adobe PDF Printer) No VIRTUAL PRINTERS
Thank you for attempting to help me with this... we have tried everything and haven't been able to resolve the problem.

  • PSE7 Editor Poor Print Quality

I am printing to an HP Laserjet 1200, monochrome. It is not an inkjet. When I upload a picture, it prints fine from the Organizer. When I then open it with Editor, and print to the same printer (without making any changes to the image), I get the message "Some PostScript print settings... will be ignored since you are printing to a non-PostScript printer." The Laserjet is non-PostScript. It then prints, however the quality is poorer. This same image will print with good quality using the Windows XP Picture and Fax Viewer, so it seems Editor specific. The Editor window says it is printing at 306 PPI, which seems adequate.
I can find no options in PE7 that might cause this difference between Editor and Organizer printing.
Is there something I should be looking at in options?

  • CP1025nw, repeptetive smudges, poor print quality, pushing toner button does nothing.

I haven't used this printer in a couple of years, so I sense some of my issues might be related to that.  First up, the print quality is quite poor. Despite having a new black toner cartridge, the B&W printing isn't very strong; it's blotchy in some areas with random spots in others. Second, there are repeating color splotches all over the place. I've attached a photo. Third, pressing any of the toner buttons does nothing, no beeps, blinks, or movement. So far, the only things I've tried was toreplace the black toner cartridge and blow out the interior of the machine with compress air. I also removed the drum and gave that a quick and careful cleaning.. Any thoughts?

  • Very Poor Quality of Soft and Hard Cover Books in UK

I recently had 2 soft cover books printed-both originated from Aperture. Both showed severe crinkling on the cover on all areas of BLACK ink. The covers have also curled outwards badly. After speaking with the Apple Print Services helpdesk I was assured it must have been just a 'one off' problem. The replacement was not quite as bad but was still what I would say was of unacceptable quality. The pages inside are printed on very lightweight paper with a poor finish on all printed areas.
I then tried a hard cover book. This had a crinkled dust jacket caused presumably also by over-saturated ink on the paper.
The system of binding looked amateurish.
I would be interested to know whether my experiences are echoed by users on other continents. These books had a Dutch postmark on the package so I guess they were printed there?
These books may be priced attractively, but personally I would rather have a quality product than something I am embarrassed by - or certainly in a professional arena.

Hi, I have also ordered photobook through Aperture. Received with Dutch postmark. Quality is not good, the pages are very thin, use thicker paper than this for everyday printing, looks saturated, colour reproduction is not good in some photos also have some that are blurry. Have reproduced photos at same size on printer at home and they are totally different, do not know if this was a download issue.
As they come from Holland was wondering if it is through KODAK.
Also Aperture update 2.1.2 says that it will improve printing quality of books ordered through the printing services. Does this mean that a problem has been admitted and all photobooks ordered previously using Aperture 2 will have the oportunity to redownload and reprint? Somehow I think not.
