Print Screen using new Microsoft Remote Desktop app on Mac

I am trying to figure out how to do a screen capture of a window using the new Microsoft Remote Destkop app on my MacBook Pro.  I don't have a numeric keypad so the Ctrl+Alt+Minus on the keypad does not work.  On the older remote desktop
client there were preferences to remap this but I cannot figure it out on the new app.  And the snipping tool is great if connected to an OS that has it.  Otherwise it does not help.
Thanks!
Richard

Hi,
Please check if you have the PrtScn key on your keyboard. If so, you can use this key to capture a full screen screenshot and paste it such as MS paint.
If you do not have the key, you can start the On-Scrren Keyboard to use the PrtScn Key within the remote session.
Control Panel\Ease of Access\Ease of Access Center
Hope this helps.

  • Black spots with RemoteApps using the Microsoft Remote Desktop on a mac

Hi, I'm dealing with a very strange problem with black spots while using a remoteapp. See the picture for the black spots. It's only happening when I use the MS Remote Desktop App on a mac (version 8.0.12, latest version of the appstore).
The RDS enviroment that we're using is Server 2012 R2 based with all the RD roles installed on several servers. Has someone any idea where to look? I've tried several things, LAN experience on the RD Web access disabled, new user without roaming profile,
nothing works. Sorry for the big picture...
    Regards,

  • Microsoft Remote Desktop app ios7 to Windows 8.1 Pro

For anyone using an iPad to remote desktop to your Windows 8.1 pro 64 bit computer, I recently posted the following distress call in the Microsoft Community Windows - Windows 8.1 - Other Windows apps by Microsoft - Other.
A Microsoft Support Engineer there suggested I post it here instead. The 1st part is the distress part, the 2nd part is how I finally solved it and then a different problem started ...
    Part 1
Help, I'm going crazy trying to get this Microsoft Remote Desktop app on ios7 to connect to my computer running Windows 8.1.
I've added my computer name, user name and password, but even though it starts to connect it never does and gives me an error message saying:
    Timeout while resolving hostname
I've set up my computer to allow remote connections and allow connections only from computers running blah, blah, blah.
    What am I doing wrong?
In the past I was able to use logmein free without any problems until they stopped the free version. I can also get through using Team Viewer, so why won't the RD Client app work?
    Part 2
Doesn't matter now as I ended up working out that it didn't work with my computer name. What I had to do is go to cmd and type ipconfig to find
the right ip address and insert it where it asked for computer name and it worked! Of course, then it kept disconnecting, so I've totally abandoned it and will use Team Viewer instead (until I'm willing to try again).
So that's where I'm up to.
I didn't find anything useful in this TechNet article: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn473013.aspx
So any suggestions on how to make Microsoft's RD Client app on ios work without disconnecting all the time?

    Hi,
For this issue,as Milos said, using the host name requires your network to resolve the host name properly through DNS.
So this issue is related to DNS.In many home network configurations only the IP address will work properly.
Regarding DNS,I suggest you check the configuration on the ipad.
Regarding how to add host name to IOS,I suggest you contact apple support for help.

  • Downgrade Microsoft Remote Desktop Client for Mac

Is there a way to downgrade to a previous version of the microsoft remote desktop client for mac? We are experiencing issues with one of our published remote apps (regarding window focus i.e. which window of the open application is at the front of the
users screen) since upgrading to 8.0.9. This application was OK in 8.0.5. Can we revert to an older version?

We are also experiencing similar issues regarding window sizes and display settings with our remote resources, since upgrading. We are using remote desktop application for iPhone/iPad. Upon opening of our Remote App, although we have set the command-line
argument to open to full screen, we see the application resizing 3 times before it finally opens - and it does not open in full screen. Please assist.

  • Problem connect to my office PC with Microsoft Remote Desktop from my MAC OSX 10.9.1

When I try to connect, I get the following message "Java (TM) is required to display some items on this page"  and then a prompt to install Java, which I did already, and verified that it is running on my machine.  I have downloaded Chrome
vs Safari for use since Safari is not compatible with Java version.  HELP!!
    CDr

    Hi,
As far as I know, Java is not required for the Microsoft Remote Desktop client for Mac.
Please make sure that you download and install this App for the link below.

  • Password expires when using the Remote Desktop App in Android

When the password expires, users using the Microsoft Remote Desktop App in Android cannot logon to the system.
Is there a way for them to be notified of the password expiry and having a chance to change the password?
    Cheers.
    Andrew

    Hi Andrew,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
You can set the GPO policy, “Interactive Logon: Prompt user to change password before expiration” under
Computer Configuration\Windows Settings\Local Policies\Security Options which will let the user prompts to change their password before specific limit.
    More information.

  • Set up microsoft remote desktop

how do i setup preferences in microsoft remote desktop?

    Hi,
If you mean the Windows Remote Desktop connection (mstsc.exe), you can use notepad to customize the .rdp file and distribute the customized .rdp file to your users.
If you mean the Microsoft Remote Desktop app for Mac/IOS/Android, I’m afraid that we have no option to set the preferences.
    Thanks.

  • Can't connect to windows 7 machine using microsoft remote desktop connection

I am unable to connect from my home network to the Windows 7 Professional machine at my office, using either Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection (2.1.1) for Mac or the open source CoRD program.
When connected to the office network (which is running MS Small Business Server 2011 Standard) both CoRD and MS RDC will connect to my desktop machine just fine! (My MacBook Pro runs Mountain Lion.)
From my home network, MS RDC will complain that it cannot find the Windows computer if I just use the Windows computer name. If I use the Windows machine's iPV4 address, it works on it for a minute and then tosses up this error message:
Using the IP address of the Windows machine, CoRD just grinds away for a minute or so and then times out.
I should add that using Internet Exporer under Parallels from home, I can get a little closer to success (after fidding around with ActiveX controls for a bit). I will get to the Windows login screen, but then I am told that my user password is wrong (which makes no sense at all)!
Okay, geniuses, have at it, and thanks in advance!!

  • Setting up Remote Desktop Apps for access from a Mac with 2FA

    Hi
Setting up Remote Desktop Apps for access from a Mac with 2FA.
I have a server 2012 remote access gateway, with remote apps published(which uses single signon), behind a 2FA connection (web based) and want to know if its possible to allow macs to connect to the remote Apps behind it. i cannot permanently remove any
of the above setup as it is a requirement.
When i connect from a mac i can login to both the 2FA and remote access web pages and see all the apps but when i click on any app it downloads it to the mac and when i try to run it using Remote Desktop App for MAC i get an error :
"httpendpointexception: 4, The non-proxy http connection failed to connect with the message: 500 internal Server Error."
I have tried with 2fa turned off for testing and get the same result.Does it support 2012 TSGW server? does it support Remote desktop apps? as i cant find a definitive answer on either.
Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
From Error description it seems to be a communication issue between your Mac and your RD gateway server. If you connect from extranet, you may need Remote Desktop Gateway or a VPN/Direct Access connection to your intranet, or forward port 3389 on your router.
500 Internal Server Error seems to be a HTTP related error.
The HTTP status code in IIS 7.0, IIS 7.5, and IIS 8.0
Also, please double check the settings if you have a RD gateway implemented in you intranet.
    http://redmondmag.com/articles/2013/12/24/rd-gateway-in-windows-server.aspx
In Windows Server 2012 R2 RD Gateway pluggable authentication is also introduced. This allows custom authentication routines to be used with RD Gateway. For example building a two-factor solution on top of RD Gateway is now possible which allows doing token-authentication
to the RD Gateway which works seamlessly with RD Web Access or RDP file launching.
Please check below article for more information.
Windows Server 2012 R2 is coming what does this add to RDS – VDI
In addition, please provide the log file from the client for further research.

  • Trying to download microsoft remote desktop and it keeps failing

trying to download microsoft remote desktop from the app store and midway through the install, i get a message that app failed to download and to try again from purchases, that also fails.

It happenned to me, too. I talked to apple support on the phone, and they helped me to get it download. which turned out to be a waste of my time because the microsoft remote desktop app doesn't work to begin with. even when it downloads, it will crash. it is just a buggy/ faulty program.

  • ARD redraw speed compared to microsoft remote desktop

i use the microsoft remote desktop to control windows boxes at home and work. i also use ARD to control mac nodes from another mac.
in comparison the ARD system is a SLUG. MS's application has far better performance. keep in mind i do realize that the display quality on the mac you are choosing to control can be reduced to allow better refresh but there is a huge discrepancy between the two products.
my question is - do you all notice this as well or do i have something configured wrong. any one doing and experiencing the same thing as me?

    Hi
There does seem to be performance differences between one VNC package and another. Strictly speaking it should not make any difference. What I have noticed is ARD runs more smoothly when internal DNS services are configured, however I am not an expert.
'Chicken of the VNC' seems to work smoother/faster (when it does not crash!) than ARD does, but again you dont get what is available in ARD. So far I cant get Chicken of the VNC to work at all on an Intel Mac.
    There are alternatives to ARD:
    http://www.pure-mac.com/remote.html
    and
    http://www.redstonesoftware.com/products/vine/server/vineosx/index.html
    and also
    http://swik.net/VNC+osx
This link explains things quite well though as well as offereing an OpenSource server and client package for download which you build yourself:
    http://www.cl.cam.ac.uk/research/dtg/attarchive/vnc/start.html
Some of the contributors to these forums have mentioned Vine. Apart from 'Chicken' and OSXvnc I dont recall mention of anything else.

  • Can i set up remote desktop with my Mac Air and Windows 7 HP desktop?

I am wanting to set up remote desktop with my Mac Air and HP windows 7 home edition desktop.  Is this possible and how do I begin setting this up?
    Thanks for the help!

There is an app in the Mac App Store to use Microsoft Remote Desktop with a Mac: https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/microsoft-remote-desktop/id715768417?mt=12
But according to their support site it requires Pro, Enterprise, or Ultimate in the Windows 7 side. http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dn473006.aspx
If it was me, I would first look into Teamviewer to see if it will do what you need. It does work between Mac and Windows and it is free for non-commercial use. http://www.teamviewer.com/en/index.aspx

  • Remote Desktop Connection for Mac - connection lost after a minute idle

    Hi There,
I am trying to connect from a Macbook Pro to my work (XP) machine using the latest Remote Desktop Connection for Mac.
It used to work fine, and recently it has been dropping the connection if I've not been 'active' for a minute or so.
What is confusing is that it is not always like this. Some days, I can leave it inactive for hours over lunch etc, and I'll come back and it will be fine. And just the other day, in the morning it dropped me out ever minute or so I was inactive, and then the afternoon was fine, and the evening was troublsome again.
Our administrators had not changed anything during that time, nor had I changed anything on my XP machine at work, or my Mac at home.
I connect via a wireless connection.
These problems occur when running on battery and when plugged in.
    Any thoughts?
    Thanks,
    ThreeIsles

Since RDC is not an Apple product, you should post your question on Microsoft's own forums for their Mac version of RDC:

  • Can't connect remote PC with Microsoft Remote Desktop for Mac after using a new router

I'm using a Windows 8.1 computer as a HTPC to download files and I set it logins automatically and I just need to press the power button then use RD for Mac to control the HTPC without extra monitor, keyboard...
Here is the problem: After I took my Mac and HTPC to another place, I can't connect it with new router now. (I change the PC name to new local IP, nothing else changed)
    It shows on screen that:
Unable to connect to remote PC. Please verify Remote Desktop is enabled, the remote PC is turned on and available on the network, and then try again.
I can use shared disk drive of the HTPC on my Mac so I know the connection works.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
