Print Selection in Leopard.........

Hi all,
Apart from just loving my Imac, I just can't understand why Apple does not have a print selection option in it's print box. I know that there are 'other' options, but I guess in this day and age, a simple print selection option in the printer dialog would be sensible.
Does any body know what the logic is behind Apple not having one. Dare I say it even Windows has had it I imagine since Windows 1995!
Just can't get my head around what the issue is with including it, it surely can't be that hard to do?
Anyway, apart from loving the new Leopard system (apart from a few niggles), would appreciate your thoughts.

You can be that someone. Send a bug report (or enhancement request) to Apple via its Bug Reporter system. Join the Apple Developer Connection (ADC)—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report/enhancement request. You'll get a get a Bug ID number; thus, starting a dialog directly with engineering.
Alternatively, send Feedback, but that usually goes through support and marketing—might not get to engineering.

  • Print Selection

I'm running Tiger 10.4 with an HP Officejet 6310 printer. I've had no problems with installing and using the printer. But I sure miss the HP GUI that used to display in the windows OS that would allow me to print a selection from a web page, among a host of other options. I've searched the forums, and Grab and other workarounds have been suggested, but everything I've tried basically *****. I did leave behind a lot of grief with I switched from PC to MAC, and I'd never consider going back. But I print a lot from the internet and I **** sure wish I hadn't been forced to give up so much print functionality. What's especially odd about this problem is that I can't seem to find real help for it. Would upgrading to Leopard make any difference?

Hi, try this, Print Selection Service...

Hello. I feel your pain and frustration with the print selection problem in safari, especially in Snow Leopard. I have spent hours trawling help pages and forums etc. BUT YEE HAA (sorry got a bit excited, but it really was hours) I found the answer. So here goes.
    Click on Safari
Scroll down to services then slide to right
Scroll down to services preferences and click
Scroll down to the Text section
If you Tick the Text box it will choose all options for you. Or if you don't want all options in the Text list, then untick Text box and tick options you do want.
BUT for your print selection problem make sure you tick NEW TEXT EDIT WINDOW CONTAINING SELECTION.
Then when you want to select something in a web page you want to print (including pictures etc) then highlight it, then Right click. And low and behold, in the list is NEW TEXT EDIT WINDOW CONTAINING SELECTION. Click that, Then press cmd+p and your printing.
I really hope that helps with your problem
I can now go to sleep.

  • Possible Fix for Printing Problems in Leopard

I got this information from Mac OS X Leopard Edition book by David Pogue. Here's his possible fix for printing problems in Leopard...Open web browser and enter this address http://127.0.0.1:631. You'll find youself at a secret "front end" for CUPS (Common UNIX Printer System), the underlying printing technology for Mac OS X 10.5. This trick lets your Mac communicate with a huge array of older printers that dopn't yet have Mac OS X drivers. Using this administration screen, you can print a test page, stop your printer in its tracks, manage your networked printers and print jobs, and more–a very slick trick. Haven't tried it yet...anyone who does let me know how it worked!

If you literally "checked" them, meaning the checkboxes, that only affects their visibility. To remove them, select one and then click on the "minus" part of the "plus minus" at lower left.

  • Print Selection and Print Queue?

    Hey guys,
I have a couple questions. From time to time, I want do print selection because I do not like copy it and pasting it into textedit or something. Is there a way I could do this without leaving safari? Also, when I print I usually have to close the print queue manually once the document is done. In tiger, the queue used to automatically close once the document was done transmitting to the printer. Is there a way I could have the queue to automatically once something is done printing?

The 1.1 Update does not work with Leopard...all that happens is the text area goes Gray, and then nothing. It is supposed to work...
It is ridiculous that Apple refuses to implement a simple "Print Selection" option in the Print Box. As usual, Apple has the most advanced stuff, except for the basics. Leopard is awesome, but come on now.

  • Printing to a Print Server from Leopard

I am a new Mac user, but have been in the IT for a long time. I have a Troy200 wireless print server at home that connects to Brother HL-1440 laser printer via a USB port. I print from all my Windows workstations to the Brother wirelessly. The way printing is set up in Windows is as follows: The HL-1440 driver is assigned to use a "Standard TCP/IP Port". The IP address of my Troy200 print server is 192.168.200.10. The Port Settings in Windows are configured for "Raw", and the Port Number is 9101. The Troy200 has the ability to work with up to 8 USB-based printers when a USB hub is used. I don't use a USB hub -- I connected my Brother HL-1440 directly to the Troy200's USB port. The first USB device connected to the Troy200 uses TCP port 9101.
I have absolutely no problems printing from Windows to the Troy200 print server. However, I can't get printing to work from my new Macbook Air running Leopard 10.5.2.
I select the IP Printing option on the Print/Fax confuguration applet in System Preferences. There are three options there: IPP, LPD, and CUPS. I tried both IPP and CUPS, and using the "192.168.250.10" address as well as "192.168.250.10:9101". Then I select the driver from the drop-down list for my printer "Brother HL-1440". When I try to print, all I get is a jumping printer icon on the dock.
The problem is that I need to be able to specify TCP port 9101. I can't find a place in the printer configuration utility where I can enter the TCP port number. Again, using "192.168.250.10:9101" doesn't work.
Also, there are actually two printer drivers for the Brother HL-1440 listed among printer drivers in Leopard. One of them is a "gutenprint" driver. I tried both of them, and neither one worked. Actually, when I go to the status page on my print server after I try to print from Leopard, the status of the printer is "sleep". So, it doesn't appear that the print job from sent from my Macbook Air even hits the print server.
I can ping my print server from my Macbook Air, and I can even http to its admin pages. So, the network connectivity is fine.
    Please help the newbie!

you should start a new thread, you'd have a better chance of getting an answer. I'll try to answer your question.

    Greg,
I'm running Panther Server 10.3.9 in a vLAN with 16 OS 9 clients. They all print to 2 Xerox Phaser 6200 and 6250 network printers. I am unable to print to either one. I have limited desk space so a USB-attached printer, while more convenient, is impractical. When I run Classic from the Server, I can print to the Phasers.
that means that OS X is seeing the printers. When you print in Classic, what happens is that the Classic drivers (LaserWriter 8) hands off the print jobs to the appropriate OS X drivers, which do the actual printing.
I can connect to administer them both with a browser.
this definitely means that you can see the printers.
I have all the drivers I should need (new re-installs), but print jobs stop every time.
Does this mean that the drivers are installed and are visible in Print & Fax?
Is there a log file or some way I can see why these jobs fail?]
There are logs, some of which are visible in CUPS using the browser.
What error messages are you getting?
Do you have any pearls of wisdom?
    Thanks

First you must have the most up to date driver for your printer. Then the Adobe PDF printer no long works.

    Still the issue is existing.
May i know the cause of the issue or is it a bug?
    Thanks
    Nancy

    Hi ,
The cause of the issue is the standard rdf is set to run for single operating unit. But R12 is a moac setup enable application. Hence The operating unit mode is changed to Single from null in system administration concurrent program setting for the XML report concurrent program.
    This fixed the issue.
    Thanks

  • Printer selection dialog on client

I have to fire a print out from a jsp page.
I am using java.awt.PrinterJob, Printable and Book classes for the print.
When I call the PrinterJob.printDialog(), the Printer Proerties selection box
    is popped on the server.
Is there any way I can pop up the printer selection dialog box on the client machine?
    Thanks

You won't be able to use a java class to open anything on your client.
Your java program runs on a server and builds HTML for the client browser. You can either do as Zetor suggested and put print functionality in an applet, or include javascript in the HTML page you build that will do your printing.

Servlets is executed in the server, for that reason it appears to you the window of impression in the server, and not in the client.
In order to print in the client I suggest one to you of these 2 solutions:
    First solution: When the user wants to print something, he creates a new window of the browser with a page HTML that contains what you want to print and to print it from there with javascript. Something complicated if it is not known like doing it. See the javascript code window.print();
Second solution: To use the program Crystal Reports. The quality is excellent, but it is necessary to buy it.

  • How to print selection only

I saw this question on another forum and realized that I have no idea how to print 'selection only'. The only options in the file>print menu are for the pages desired. I see no way to print only the selected portion of a page. There must be a way, but I do not seem to be able to find the answer.
    Thanks, Fran

I tried it with 'Grab' but the printout was too large. I then discovered that if you use 'Snag It' you can accomplish the same thing. Press Shift-command-3 for the whole screen or Shift-command-4 for a part of the screen. this creates a PNG image which when opened in 'Preview' can be printed. Rather complicated, but it does work. Thanks for steering me in the right direction.
