Print server configuration

Hi,
I would like to start our first Print server using windows 2008 Print service. I have went through some related forums here but have not fully understood how to create queue and push clients. So far i have done the following:
- Installed new win 2008 server with print services
- Created Printers in print management, installed necessary print drivers.
What is next? Do I need to share the printers in server?
Thanks for your support.

if yoiu have created a printer, you have created a queue.
A queu is not more than a link between a port and a driver that has a nice name and a seperate set of settings. It visualises as a 'printer'. You can have multiple queues pointing to the smae physical printer, that's why teh queues are referred to as queues
and not as printers.
You will indeed need to share the printers for client computers to be able to see them.
from client perspective, a shared printer is used a bit like a fileshare. Browse to the server
\\printeserver and doubleclick the printer, or browse to
\\printserver\printersharename. the cleint will download the drivers and create a link to the printqueue taht th user will be able to use like a local printer.
in larger deployments, you could consider mapping the printers via a loginscript or publishing the printers to Actove directory, but make sure you shared printers work first :)

  • Printer Server configuration for APEX 3.1.2 in 10g XE

I have APEX3.1.2 installed in 10g XE and I am going thorough the OTN tutorial "[Oracle Application Express 3.0-- Building a Functional Application"|http://www.oracle.com/technology/obe/apex/obe30/apexdev30.htm#l7] in the section "Editing Application Objects".
When I click "Print Attribute" of a page region, it displayed "{color:#ff0000}Report printing is currently not available, there is no print server configured{color}".
Can you tell me what this means and how to resolve it. All I have is APEX3.1.2 installed in 10gXE.
I have searched this forum and it seems that I have to install/configure a printer server?
    Thanks!

    Dan,
I have the same problem as Kevin.
Your answer to his question can be very helpful. But if I follow the link you provide, I cant find the step 5.2.
Step 5.1 is clear. But what are the tasks of step 5.2?
I hope that you can tell me this.
    Thank you.

  • V30 - Print Server requirements

Are the requirements / instructions posted available for setting up a print server for PDF printing in V30?
Having spent two days with many aborted installs against 10.2.0.x (doesn't work at all that I can see), my working version of 3.0 gives a large message in red
"Report printing is currently not available, there is no print server configured." on the Print Attributes for a report.
    Thanks
    Mike

As a followup to others who run ApEx on one machine and OAS on another, the process was quite a bit more convoluted. So is the hope of helping others avoid the headaches I experienced, here's a post I just made over on the XML Publisher forum.
    [snip]
I think I'm in the same environment as you. I'm running Windows Server 2003 on two machines. One machine has my Oracle 10gR2 database and the other machine has my OAS installation.
After countless hours going around in circles primarily on Sun's site, I finally found the correct JDK and JRE combination. I already had an older version of the JRE, but it didn't seem to mind that I now have two versions available in different locations.
Anyway, after getting these installed, the BI Publisher install finally allowed me to continue.
Next, I had to do the "Start OC4J" (under Start, Programs, Oracle BI Publisher). Then I went into "Welcome to Oracle BI" and clicked the BI Publisher link on the right side. I then logged in with the id and (initial default) password of Administrator. Next of course, I changed the default password. After that, I went into JDBC Connections and created one for my database on the other machine, in the format:
    jdbc:oracle:thin:@//my_server:1521/sid_name
Finally after all this I eliminated the Adobe message about the corrupt or damaged PDF. I still have issues with how the output looks, almost everything is piled into the same column on the left side, but at least the connectivity is finally there.
Of course figuring this out wasn't a simple process. I spent around 20 hours of experimenting, researching, getting frustrated, etc. before it all came together.
Hope this helps you out some.
    [end snip]
Now I just need to figure out why all the output is getting stacked up on the left side.
    Bill Ferguson
Oops, I forgot another step that I saw in one of the documents somewhere. Once you get into the BI Publisher app, where you can create the JDBC Connection, look at your URL bar. It will have your server_name:port in it. Whatever that port is (mine turned out to be 9704 instead of the default 8888), use that on the Apex side, where you define the Instance Settings.

  • WIndows 7 64-bit system printing to a Windows 2000 server configured as a print server

Is there any way to configure a new Windows 7 64-bit computer to use a Windows 2000 server configured as a print server ?
The printer that I would like to connect to is an HP 4240n LaserJet. I appears that there is only a 64-bit Universal Print Driver available. The server currently uses HP 32-bit PCL5e or PCL6 drivers for all other connected computers. Connection is through a Hewlett-Packard Network Port, using DLC/LLC transport for the embedded 4240n print server.
Installing  the HP 64-bit UPD to the WIndows 7 64-bit system, and then attempting to redirect the local port to the Win2k network print server has not worked.
    Thanks for any advice.

    Hi:
    See if this works...
    Run msconfig.
In the System Configuration screen, Boot tab, Advanced Options, if there is a check mark in the box next to Maximum memory. Remove that checkmark and save your changes.
Reboot and hopefully Windows recognises all the Ram ( minus the reserved ) after restarting.
Please give that a try, and post back and let us know if that frees up some system memory for you.

  • Configuring a printer through a wired printer server over a wireless network.

Hi,  I have a home wireless networks setup via a netgear wireless router. I have an old HP Laserjet 4 that is connected via a parallel printer port to a Netgear PS110 printer server. The printer server is connected via Ethernet to the wireless router. How do I configure my Macbook Pro (Mac OS X 10.7.5) to talk via the wireless router to the printer server, and to configure a driver that will work with the old HP. On all of my PCs (Windows 7/XP/Vista) I can see the device on the network and assign a printer driver to it. I am new to the Macbook world and would appreciate some guidance. How do I get the Mac to recognize the server on the network? How do I specify an HP specific driver for the printer. If I need to install some third party driver for this older printer, how do I do that?

  • Configuring Problem in Oracle Application Express  3.0  Print Server

    hi all,
Configuring for my Oracle Application Express Print Server in apex 3.0 I have used apache foa and made all steps in the documentation
    http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/application_express/html/configure_printing.html
the print attribute works but I have a problem in the pdf print with characters.
My reports columns characters are turkish and when I linked to print pdf the print the turkish characters are seeming #
and I try to change in the script apex_fop_render.jsp I changed the encode but the problem was not solved. Can you help please urgently!
    I am waiting your helps!

Apache FOP does not support some character sets out of the box, i.e. Asian languages require additional configuration steps. Not sure about those non-standard ISO characters in the Turkish alphabet though. But since you’re writing that those are returned as #, looks like the same problem. There should be information available on the Internet on how to configure those fonts and character sets with Apache FOP. Once BI Publisher is out, using that as the rendering engine with APEX might be another alternative to consider, as that product will support this out of the box.

  • Wireless Print Server (DPR-1260) - Manually Configure Printer Port

I am trying to get my DPR-1260 Wireless Print Server (PS) installed, and need help with manually configuring the printer port (per Dlink).
    Status:
    A) Before trying to install the PS, I was able to easily install (2) USB printers, see them, and print to them.
    B) My new IMAC is hardwired to the router.
    *Recent Actions:*
    1) I've worked with Dlink and have verified that my network (my new IMAC, and my wife's wireless laptop (OS 10.39) see the PS (hooked directly to the router). It's IP address is 192.168.0.102 .
    2) I hooked both printers to the PS, and the address sees both printers as installed, and provide with LPR information (both printers are now hooked to the PS). Dlink does not guarantee printer compatibility, but says that since the site sees the printers, gives me LPRs, that the probability is good that they will be compatiable.
    3) My new IMAC sees this address in both OS and in XP (thru VM Fusion). My laptop (10.3x) also sees this address. However, I'm not able to install this printer.
    4) Per Dlink, I need to manually configure the printer port to install the PS.
    5) Dlink kept sending me to the Print Utility, but from what I see, that does not exist in 10.5.
How do I manually configure the printer port to see the PS?
Now, I am stuck, and help?
    Many thanks

As DLink have said, you will have to manually configure a LPR queue to connect to your printers. The print utility in 10.5 is the Print & Fax util in System Preferences. Open this and choose to Add . Select IP and then LPR. Enter the ip address of the PS. Then you will need a queue name for the respective USB ports, such as P1 and P2, or something similar. Hopefully the DLink info mentions this so that you can print to the desired printer.
The final bit of info you will need to know is whether the printer driver for each printer will work in this type of network. If either of them is a Canon then there is a good chance you will not be able to use supplied drivers. These types of connections require a third party driver, like Gutenprint, which is usually installed by default. If you are not sure, then please tell us which brands and models of printer you have.

  • Issues configuring a router print server

I have an ASUS RT-N13U router that I'm hoping to be able to print off of (printer - Canon i560).  I've set it up with a Windows computer and it works as expected, but I cannot get it to work on my Mac.  I can't seem to figure out what is going wrong.  In order to get it to work on my Windows computer, I used 192.168.1.1 and LPRServer and chose my specific printer (Canon i560), so I used the same parameters on my Mac.  I followed these steps: https://discussions.apple.com/message/8749886#8749886.
Once I set my printer up, I get the following message "Unable to verify the printer on your network.    It can not be currently determined if ‘192.168.1.1’ supports the Line Printer Daemon (protocol). Would you still like to create the queue?".  I choose to 'continue', but when I try to print the printer just says "The printer is busy."
I've been able to print off of USB for years, but I'd really like to be able to print wirelessly.
Your help is much appreciated, thank you!
    - redrainbows

LPD/LPR print queues often require a specific queue name. If this is not entered when creating the LPD queue on the Mac then you can get the "printer is busy" message.
Since you have the Windows computer working fine then I suggest you check the print queue on Windows for information on what queue name or protocol to use. This can be determined by opening the Properties pane for the printer and selecting the Ports tab. If you then select the Configure Ports tab this will show what protocol you are using. By default, Windows will default to RAW Port 9100, which is known as HP Jetdirect-Socket on the Mac. So if Windows is using this protocol for connecting via the Asus router then delete the current queue on the Mac and add it again, this time selecting HP Jetdirect-Socket for the protocol. If Windows is showing the queue has been configured using LPD, then it should also show what queue name has been used which you can the use to create a new LPD queue on the Mac.
One other note. The Canon Mac drivers cannot be used for some networked printer connections, such as when the printer is being shared by Windows or connected to a 3rd party print server. Instead you need to install and use the Gutenprint drivers. So you may need to look at using the Gutenprint i560 driver for your setup.

    Hi,
Additionall, you may need to check the configuration of radius server on server 2012.
And you must make sure that the shared-key must be the same on both server and client side.

  • Macs And A Print server WGPS606 How To Configure

Hi there, having a spot of bother, lol
I have a pc laptop and 2 mac laptops.
set the print server up with pc laptop, and it works a treat, no problems! thou i did connect 1printer and its in port 2, but following the instructions on the web i changed everything where necessary and pc lappy works a treat.
    Now the macs.
1stly i installed the printer to work with a usb lead and it works on them both fine.
    Then
I followed the instructions available from http://kbserver.netgear.com/kbwebfiles/N101570.asp
and when i get to select the printer type and model, the one i'm wanting to setup isnt listed, even thou its installed, and when you use the autodetect it comes up with a generic somet or other that doesnt work.
How do i get my printer listed or where do i find the file containing the driver info?
Ive seen a few of these problems crop up, but never the answers,
any help would be greatly apreciated!
    Mark

I don't think you can trace the printer's log from the Windows print server but you can setup Windows Audit Policy to see who printed the document when.
You can also check on the printer's log on the printer's web interface ( most of the network printer have this feature) to see the complete logs.

  • HP webservices tab not available when using HP Jetdirect 2700w wireless print server

I recently bought HP Laserjet Enterprise 500 m551 dn color laser printer with HP jetdirect 2700w wireless print server ( one day old at this time).
I was able to configure the device and enable/ use eprint services using the embedded server with a wired connection.
However when I attach a the mentioned wireless print server, the "Webservices" tab disappears from the configuration website, the printer reports that the eprint services are not enabled and ofcourse hp eprint or google cloud print do not work. The printer appears offline at eprintcenter. Everything else works fine.
On the product website for the wireless server, it clearly states that this is compatible with eprint services.

  • How to set up new MBP to use D-Link print server

New to Mac.  MBP found 2 of my 3 printers right away.  Tried manually configuring the 3rd which is an older HP Laserjet 1320 connected via USB to a D-Link print server.  In Win you config using the IP address and port name.  Configuration appeared to work but nothing gets sent to printer.  If this is an easy fix I would like to go that route  but if the print server hardware is too old please suggest good alternative that will work for both Windows and Mac systems as I have both in the house.
    Thanks

I was able to resolve this by rebooting the print server.
