Print Server - network printing

I would like to share a printer in my network. I installed the printer as shown in the manuel. The printer is connected via usb to the server. I can print locally but not from the network.
If I send a print job from a max os x client the printer management tool will open up and displays the job correct, the only unusual is that it's showing me that he is searching for printers. Sometimes is takes longer, sometime it's quicker. But at the end it shows always "Connecting with printer". After awhile it tries to rebuild the printer and finally it tries to print again after 5 seconds.
At the CUPS the printer is installed and shared properly. At the server management tool SMB and LPR is enabled- Ipp and printer quote are disabled.
At CUPS the following options are marked:
Show printers shared by other systems ; Share printers connected to this system; allow printing from the internet; allow remote administration
thank you in advance.
Kind regards Marc

As John suspected, the LaserJet 5L is a non-Postscript printer, which was never supported by HP for use with Macs. No MacOS 9.x printer drivers exist for the LaserJet 5L. It can be made to work with MacOS X only because of the availability of the third-party printer drivers provided by either HPIJS or Gimp-Print.
What you could do - enable printer sharing of this printer on your Mac mini. Then set up printing from the iMac to the shared printer created by the Mac mini by following the advice at:
Printing to a Mac OS X shared printer from Mac OS 9 via LPD/LPR.

  • Creating Queue, Print Serve, and Printer

We are using Novell Netware 4.x.
We have a HPLJ5 SI printer with a CNET Print Server attached via the LP
cable port then attached to the network.
When creating the print queue, print server, and printer via the Netware
Administrator it appears that nothing is seen on the locally attached
    print server.
I have reviewed the config on the Print Server, all appears correct, but
when I add the queue, server, and printer, the system does not see the
    prin server?
I have been recently introduced to Novell, so please bear with me if the
info to answer is not all here.
    TIA,
    Bill

    We are using IPX/netware.
The print server is configured with:
    1. The print server name
    2. The Netware server name
    3. NDS Tree and Context
I have also created the Queue, Print Server, and Printer in the
organization. The print queue does have the print server and printer in
    the assignmenets area.
I guess I am a little confused. If the print server is attached to the
printer what is the relationship between the print server and the queue?
And what makes this different between that and a print server and queue on
    the server itself?
I guess you can tell I am a little (or maybe even a lot) lost!
    TIA,
    Bill

  • How do I set up my HP psc2175xi all in one printer for wireless printing or network printing?

How do I set up my HP psc2175xi all in one printer for wireless printing or network printing?
I am changing the set up of my home computer to add another computer.
I would like to go wireless from my computers to the hub and wired from the hub to my
printer. I do not think this printer can do that since it does not have the ports to connect to a router hub, I think.
I am rather new to this way of setting up, so any help would be nice.

You could get a wireless router that supports USB printers, but these only support printing, not scanning.  You could just go buy a new wireless printer since your printer is pretty old, anyway.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Print Server - Network host is busy

I have set up SLS as a print server with an HP laserjet connected via usb.
If I add the printer to OSX10.6 clients I get an error whenever I try to print anything stating the "network host xx is busy will retry in 30 seconds"
I can print no problem from Windows clients - just not Macs
Any ideas most welcome - I have tried pretty much everything I can think of at this stage?

I had exactly the same issue with a Epson USB printer. I do not have a Windows machine, but all the Macs were showing "Network host is busy, will retry in..."
It is working now. I did the following:
Installed the printer as a USB printer on the OS X server
In Server Admin, at the server.local, I selected the services tab, and put a check mark against Firewall.
I then selected the Firewall service and under the service tab, I allowed traffic on IPP and LPR ports.
I then recreated my print queue using only IPP as protocol.
My client could connect to this printer as it was advertised as a Bonjour printer @ servername.
This works even though I have not turned on the firewall service (no green dot) but it seems toggling these ports choices in the Firewall service did something.
    Good luck.

  • Basic tiger server printing to network printer issues - HELP :)

Hi everyone, Im after some help as im running out of ideas, here is my basic setup: (sorry i have rambled on a bit
current 192.168.0.x network that has ADSL, PC's HP Laserjet 5Si network printer.
Connected to that is my Tiger server with 2 lan ports, one is connected to that network and the other connected to a switch where I run all my macs - the server is a basic file and software update server.
macs connected to the server get a 192.168.2.x address and can access the internet and each other etc - all is happy.
now - I had my personal macbook pro connected directly to the first network to access the printer, works fine and fairly quickly but was unable to access the server (i imagine because the server thinks i was from the big bad internet from the .0.x range
once i connected to the other network served by the mac server i could access all the files fine but printing would not work, so i thought I would have the server access the printer as it has access to both networks and just share it to the local macs.
well when i add it and put in the 192.168.0.71 address it connects and loads the GIMP HP5si driver, but when it tried to print it takes up to 5 mins to show that its finished, but only sometimes does the printer actually fire up, and the times it did it never printed the whole page...
The only thing i can think of is that the server is trying to print to the .0.x address'ed printer but using the .2.x address range, possibly confusing the systems.., im not too familiar with all the firewall/NAT settings ,i think i have everything turned off, but its still not working..
If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated, im not sure what else to do.
    Thank you for your time

This sounds more like a protocol or a driver issue rather than an addressing issue. Which protocol is being used to connect to the printer? You mention the GIMP driver gets loaded, which I read that it's an automatic function rather than you having to manually browse to the driver.
Also, I would look at trying the Gutenprint drivers from Sourceforge rather than the included GIMP-Print.
The other thing would be to check the cups error log on the server. It could give some clues as to why the spool file is taking so long.

  • Printing via Network Printer Server not working

I have three Macs on a local Network, PowerBook Pro, Mac Pro and Mac Mini.  Printing facilites are provided by an Epson printer connected to a Networked Print Server, both the PowerBook Pro and the Mac Pro print without any issues, However when i try to print from the MacMini i always get a communications error. I have another location where i have a similar set up and i get the same error at that location.
The Print Servers and Mac's are connected to the network via Wireless, if i try to use Ethernet i get the same issues.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

The Mini runs on Lion (10.7) and Lion want to have all network participants in the same local domain since Airdrop.
Check that the printserver uses local as domain in the network settings instead of (as often preset) workgroup

  • Riddle:  Printing from iMAC to printer on networked print server

    Here is a Doozy:
I am having trouble printing from my new Intel iMac over a wireless network, through an attached print server.
Here is the layout & issue:
    Configuration:
I have a Windows XP PC & iMac in my office.
I have a wireless network connecting the 2.
On this network & have attached the SimpleShare 250GB network HDD, with print server
I have a Canon Pixma 800 attached via USB to the SimpleShare print server.
    Issue:
The iMAC cannot print out of the printer.
The iMAC searches, finds & installs the printer (name: MP800, puts it in WORKGROUP, with queue of MP800)
It sends the job & says the job is done (looking good!).
I hear the HDD fire up (a couple clicks). But nothing prints out & the printer does not recognize a job was sent to it. (ARGHH!)
    I have:
upgraded to the latest firmware on SimpleShare.
The windows PC prints fine to the printer, through this same configuration.
The iMAC prints fine to the printer when connected directly.
The iMAC reads/writes fine to the HDD itself through the network.
The internet connection works fine through this configuration.
The ONLY issue is getting a print job from the iMAC to the printer.
ANY & ALL help is appreciated, its driving me crazy...

I suspect it may be a driver issue.
It may work with the PrintFab Drivers (but these cost).

  • Pages will not print via network printer

I have purchased and installe Pages and Numbers and neither one will print to my network printer. I have been using my DeskJet 970 on my network without trouble.
I can print from other apps installed on my iPad via this same printer.
In support of printing I have purchased Print-N-Share as well as PrintCentral Pro. I have also install wePrint on my desktop.
When I open Pages and attempt to print I am asked to select a printer. The message that comes up is that no Airprint printers were found. It totally ignores my wePrint server app which connects Print-N-Share and PrintCentral Pro.
I have already requested a reinstatement to my account for $9.99 which Apple has thus far ignored.
Has anyone experience this or found a solution to this problem.

Hi All printers are different. I suggest you contact the printer manufacture. Do you have the installation disc that came with the printer?? Try installing the printer on all computers that do not work?? Also unplug the printer for 20 seconds. Some times I have to unplug my HP to get it to work wireless. It's kind a like rebooting your PC

  • Linksys Wireless Print Server & HP Printer

Does anyone know if I can use my Linksys wireless print server which is attached to my HP All-in-One Inkjet printer for printing on my MacBook Pro? When I go to add a printer, nothing is detected - neither the HP or the Print Server.

I am facing the same problem too, except that my printer is a CANON. I can't seem to see the printer over the wireless network. However, when I connect the printer hardwired to my MBP, everything works fine and I am able to print normally.

  • Printing to network printer from OS 9.2 to OS 10.4

I have an HP Deskjet 810c connected to my Mac running OS 10.4 and want to print from my other Mac running OS 9.2. Both Macs have drivers installed.
The computers are networked via a Linksys cabled router.
I tried doing what Apples suggests in their 10.4 help area (http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh660.html) but it still doesn't work.
Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
    Ted

The link you gave is for printing from Classic programs on the same Mac. To print from another Mac running OS 9.2:
    1) On the server (with printer attached) enable print sharing both in Sharing prefs and in Print & Fax prefs.
    2) again on OS X (server), in Printer Setup highlight the Deskjet and click Show Info and find and write down the queue name. Also find the server IP address in Network Prefs and write it down.
    3) On the OS 9 computer, find Apple Printer Utility (usually in Apple Extras) and start it. Create an LPR/LPD printer and enter the IP address and queue name where asked for.
    4) Important - For printer model, choose an Apple Color LaserWriter xx as the PPD/model. This entire setup assumes a postscript printer. The good news is that OS X expects to receive postscript input and it translates that for the Deskjet.
PS, it is possible that the HP driver you installed on OS9 could work, in which case you don't need to follow the above postscript procedure. Instead, in Chooser on OS 9, select the appletalk driver for your deskjet and if the printer attached to the server shows up, select it (right side of Chooser) and it may then work. I haven't got an older deskjet to try, so I don't know if it'll work.

  • Trouble Printing to Network Printer via Remote Desktop Connection

    Specs:
    Macbook Pro, early 2013,
    Mavericks (10.9.2),
Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection v.8.0.5 (latest),
Connecting to Windows Server 2008 standard
Printer, HP LaserJet P2035n, connected via the network
When on the Mac connected to the server, the printers from the Mac are redirected so you're supposed to be able to print from Remote Desktop to the HP printer.  However, when you select something to print, the job goes to the print and keeps printing over and over and over again until you cancel the print job, which it usually allows you to do, or turn off the printer, which you have to do when it won't let you cancel the job.
Any advice on how to get the printer connection running normally?

What you haven't told us is what method you use to connect/setup the printer on Windows. There are two ways - Bonjour for Windows (free software from Apple), and TCP/IP raw port 9100. If you have a problem using one, try the other.

  • Reader 9.4.0 on Win7 x64 won't print to network printer

I have Adobe Reader 9.4.0 installed on Windows 7 x64 and I am trying to print to a network printer attached to a Windows 2008 x64 server.  The printer is a Kyocera CS-4035 and has the most recenter driver available installed.
When I open a PDF and attempt to print, I get the "you need to install a printer" error.  This same error occurs when I change the default printer to any of the HP or Kyocera printers we have available.  We have one Konica Minolta printer that appears to work when it is the default.
As I said previously, I have already verified that we have the most current driver installed on the print server.  Any suggestions?

SOLVED:  Instead of using the most current driver for the specific printer, I switched to using the manufacturer's more current universal driver, and this solved the issue.

  • PLEASE HELP:printing to network printer from MacBook to PC

    Greetings,
I have a desktop running XP with a HP PSC 1210 attached by USB. Last week I upgraded from an old Windows laptop to a shiny new MacBook. Love it but can't print through the wireless network.
    I have:
Followed the ifelix guide and was able to see the printer though the network and add it.
Followed the ifelic guide for troubleshooting and installed the unix tcp/ip printing component of windows. Still no printing.
Installed both the hpisj and esp drivers and added printers on the MacBook selecting each of one of these driver. No printing.
    What happens:
The print job becomes active then finishes on the MacBook. It is then sent through the network where it appears as a print job in the queue with the status as 'printing' and then it just sits there and does nothing never going away and doesn't allow other jobs to print after it.
I also tried travelling over 100 kilometers this weekend to the Apple store in Toronto and spoke with a Genius at the Genius bar who, without even trying said that some printers just won't work. When I asked him which printers definitely would work, he had no idea. His only suggestions was to turn print sharing off on the Mac side. Not exactly worth the 3 hours of driving.
So, while I love my MacBook, I have actually lost a much used function that I had on my old crummy laptop; a function that will be dearly missed.
Please, if anyone has any suggestions, I would be greatly appreciative. If I need to provide any more details, let me know.

  • Window 7 32 bit excel or word hangs when print using network printer

When trying to print from Word or Excel 2010 32bit, once I click print, there is a drop down menu to select
a printer. When I select the network printer (a HP Color Laserjet 5550), underneath the printer drop down it says "connecting to printer". Word or excel will hang and then show up as "not responding".

    Hi,
I noticed that you replied the similar thread, have you tied to the customer's resolution(Update/Reinstall the 32 bit driver on the network Print Server and then re-install the network printer, and then ran malwarebytes and
    removed malware.)?
Then, we may try to plug the USB cable from your printer into an available USB port on your PC to test if possible.
If the issue still exists, I recommend we go to Event Viewer and collect the Event log. It'll help us to troubleshoot the issue, you could upload here.
