Print Service requires a kick

After a reboot of the server the Print service shows as running in Server Admin.
However the print queue does not accept any jobs.
Restarting the print service resolves this.
What is happening?

I've been having issues with the print service sporadically not accepting print jobs, too. The user would get an error that the server is "busy, down, or unreachable." It seemed to be random, but I had already figured out that stopping and starting the service would fix it.
The server stopped accepting jobs again this morning and after I read this thread, I realized it was because I restarted the server yesterday afternoon. Thinking back, I believe it was happening each time I restarted the server.
So, the rule with 10.4.4 -- for now anyway -- will be to stop and start the print service after a restart. I suppose I could write a startup script to do that. There are some terminal commands, I think, that will do this.

I would like to connect a printer that requires OS 10.6 or newer. My MacBook is currently using OS 10.5.8. In searching for a software update, I am told no updates are needed (and am given no option for updating my OS). How can I upgrade my OS to 10.6 or newer?

You have to understand the difference between an Update and an Upgrade.
An Update is a free change to add to the base code or as a bug fix within an existing Operating System. Such as the .8 added to OSX 10.5 or the .11 added to OSX 10.4..
An Upgrade is a complete new Operating System that must be purchased. Such as 10.5 Leopard to 10.6 Snow Leopard.
10.5 Leopard was written for Power PC Macs with code added to force it to run on Intel processors.
10.6 Snow Leopard has completely rewritten code and only runs on Intel Macs.
10.7 Lion ($19.99) used some 32 bit which allows it to run on Late 2006 through Early 2008 MacBooks and a lot of 64 bit code.
10.8 Mountain Lion ($19.99) is pure 64 bit, which excludes more systems than Lion did. It can only run on the Late 2008 through Mid 2010 MacBooks. It's not something you can add memory to, for example, as it involves the base architecture.
10.9 Mavericks is pure 64 bit and is a free download from the App store.
The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard After you’ve installed that then download the 10.6.8 combo updater to finish it off. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399 You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order Lion, Mountain Lion or Mavericks which are downloads only.
    System Requirements for 10.6:
Mac computer with an Intel processor
    1GB of memory
    5GB of available disk space
    DVD drive for installation
Some features require a compatible internet service provider: fees may apply.

  • Adobe Print Services in Java Instance on iSeries

Comment by moderator: An english overview of this thread is given in an answer to this posting.
    Sehr geehrter Herr Hoelters,
wir möchten gerne GTS on System i fahren.

    Datenbankversion Betriebssystemversion Datum Status
    DB2/400 V5R3 WINDOWS SERVER 2003/IA32 32BIT 05.12.2005 Freigegeben
    DB2/400 V5R4 WINDOWS SERVER 2003/IA32 32BIT 14.02.2006 Freigegeben
Bedeutet das jetzt das ich die ADS nicht ohne Windows Server nutzen
    kann ?

    Hello.
This question and its answer might be interesting for the non german speaking members of this community, too. So I made a short translation of the discussion. Not in every detail but it should be sufficient to get the idea. If you have any further questions don't hesitate to ask here. For future discussions I would like to encourage all of you to use english as the forum language. The members of this community are distributed all over the world and using english is the only way to get feedback from most of them.
    Now to the question:
Mr Schulz is interested in using GTS on a system i. To use the Adobe Printing Services support in GTS it is necessary to set up a Adobe Document Server (ADS). At the moment ADS does not run natively on system i. The PAM states that ADS runs on DB2/400 using a windows server. SAP Note 925741 suggests to run an additional application server. The question is now if there is no way to run a ADS on a system i without a windows server.
The answer given by Mr Hölters can be outlined as follows:
In fact ADS is not supported under i5/OS. To allow usage of ADS without introducing a second database platform to your system landscape there is a solution given in SAP Note 925741. Instead of having a second NetWeaver installation on a different platform you can add an additional dialog instance to your application server running on system i. If this dialog instance is running under Windows you can install ADS there and don't have to use a second database platform.
    With kind regards,

  • CR XI SDK Printing Services

    Hi Expert,
My customer have one invoice program which generate invoice document in AS400 machine. This invoice program was written with RPG/CL programming language. However, they having difficulty for print out thier invoices details in Bar Code and Thai Words due to printing issues. Therefore they all looking for Crystal Report SDK whether SDK can call out its printing services in order for print out their invoice document with Bar Code and Thai Words.
In order to do so, invoices details will be extract in free format data stream file (either in CSV/text format).
Therefore, we would like to use Crystal Report SDK for read the free format data stream file as data source in order to pass in those invoice details into Printing Services in Crystal Report SDK for print out all of the invoice details including 128 Barcode and Thai words. This technique will not require to create any format report by using Crystal Report XI application, but will using programming language which written in .Net environment.
    My questions are:
    1) In order for us to using Crystal Report SDK Printing Services/Module, does Crystal Report SDK kits can read a free format data stream file in .net programming environment?
Appreciate if anyone know this could advise.
    Thanks,

  • Non standard format images from the iPhoto print service

Can anyone tell me how to get the iPhoto print service to leave my images alone? They default to filling their 10 x 8 or 7 x 5 paper sizes. Nowhere on the order form do they tell you they're going to do this and I can't find anywhere to tell them not to.
They also supplied the prints in neat card wallets with "Do not bend" in nice red boxes printed on them. These were then dispatched in a plain white envelope with no such notices on it. Not surprisingly the prints arrived bent!

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. When you click on the Buy button the available print sizes that Apple provides are displayed and you have to fill in how many of each you want. There is no custom size available, at least here in the states. What size(s) did you select in the order window?
Didn't you get a similar window over there?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • Using a Publish Service for print service prep

I'm just starting to work out a new way to prepare images for sending to a (consumer grade!) print service using a Publish service, and realized I should harness the power of this corner of the Lightroom community to see if my ideas are sound. Feel free to add comments or suggestions.
    Here's what I'm doing:
    - For each size and processing option (e.g., 5x7, Matte) create a hard drive Publish Service.
    Set options appropriately, such as:
    - Filename for clarity. I use custom name + orig file number. (There appears to be a small display bug, in that the example displayed will show the " dng.jpg")
    - Given what I've learned about Lr and JPEG compression, I reduce the quality to 80% or so for a nice quality/size balance. I don't want to have to muck with this too much.
    - My service does not have an ICC profile for me to use, but assure me that AdobeRGB is accepted by their equipment.  So that's what I'll use. (One day I'll try out a pro service that understands that a simple thing like an ICC profile makes us feel warm and fuzzy.)
    - Resizing to fit. I set to never enlarge (though it should never happen that I have to enlarge) and set the dimensions to whatever I need for this service: 5x7, 4x6 &etc. Hints on optimal dimensions for getting nice borderless prints of a certain size accepted! I know that not all dimensions are created equal.
    - I'll assume that the default resolution is fine, but I ought to do my research for when to modify this when I get into 8x10 or larger formats.
    - Sharpening for print and paper type for this publish service.
    - My service has no reasonable file size limitations, so I just let the exported files get created at any size.
    - I minimize keywords.  Makes much smaller files because who needs keywords in prints? I have Metadata Wrangler, so I might insert that and have it leave in the minimal set of MD, like ICC profile and copyright info.
So, given this, I can process my images as usual, make a number of crops (just to be a perfectionist) and then drag them to appropriate service where they end up in a hierarchy of folders ready for uploading.
    What am I missing?
BTW, I'm not using the Print module because it was too tweaky trying to get it to make JPEGs that would print borderless.  Feel free to set me straight on that if you like.

You only get one opportunity to set up the hard drive under publish and the folder cannot be changed unless you get a plug-in to provide a work around.
However you could just create a generic publish folder - something like Photo Lab, or Print Job.
But you could then right click on your publish folder and select “make target collection” - you will see the plus sign added.
Simply highlight the photos you want to print and press B (the same as adding to a quick collection) and your Publish Services folder on your hard drive will be populated with the exports.
The real problem is that you would need to edit the publish settings every time you required different dimensions etc (not sure possible). I use a similar system, which works well and I like how I can see what has already been published and what is still to be published but my prints are always the same size and resolution.

  • XP clients can't see printers made available via Print Services on 10.4.10

    Hi
Having problems attaching XP clients to an HP4730mfp via Print Services on OS X Server 10.4.10.
I've enabled SMB and LPR for the required queue but when browsing for the printer on an XP machine, while the print server is listed, no printers are available.
I have tried enabling Bonjour and running Bonjour for Windows and, while it claimed to have set up correctly, a print job completes successfully on the XPP machine but never arrives at the print server, let alone the printer.
    Any suggestions?

I do not have guest access on, because I want to monitor who is printing, but also have no file shares either - I want to keep separation between file and print servers.
    Finally found an (the?) answer.
    1. Set up a standard TCP/IP port pointing to the IP address.
    2. When the "Additional port info required" message turns up, choose 'Custom'.
    3. Set to LPR (and tick 'LPR Byte Counting Enabled" - optional?)
    4. Continue...
Strangely, this didn't appear to work will SMB was enabled in the print queue but it did when the queue was LPR only (maybe I just imagined that).
Not the best solution but it works for my situation.

  • Remote branch guest and Print services

We are deploying guest internet services in our remote branches, using a setup of WLC4402 and LAPs.
These guests require print services at the remote branch.
The DMZ will not be routed to the remote branches, and we prefer if the remote branch printer is not given a

Is there a solution whereby we can connect the printer to these wireless guests.

When trying to install Bonjour Print Services on a newly installed copy of Win7, I am getting the following error
There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A DLL required for this install to complete could not be run. Contact your support personnel or package vendor.
I have tried searching Google for an answer but unfortunately it was in vain. Since this setup worked without a problem a few days ago before I refreshed my Win7 install (and I have updated all software since the refresh), I am very confused and do not know what to do. Please advise! Thanks in advance.

  • Can't start OS X 10.3.9 Print Service

    Hello all.
Our file server (X Serve OS 10.3.9) has worked fine for the past year and a half. Yesterday I wanted to create new print queue, the service hung for a while and eventually quit out.
    The error log reports:
    Process '/usr/sbin/PrintServiceMonitor" respawning too rapidly!
I have trashed print preferences, fixed file permissions, and restarted several times, all with no luck.
Any attempt to start the print service will cause it to abruptly stop running (the print service) a second later.
Not sure where to go from here.
    Any help is appreciated.

    Hi Bobert,
if you cannot boot from the install DVD you will have to bring your computer to the Apple store since booting from the DVD is required for the reinstall.

  • Print service lookup, and permissions

I have written up an application which prints out text to the printer, using the new java print services API. The problem I have is that the i don't get any retuurned services from the lookup, unless i enable all permissions in my java.policy file (it usually has some security settings in there). Does anyone know the kind of permissions that is required for printers to be visible to the application?

Hi, i've the same problem and i allready use the security option RuntimePermission "queuePrintJob" into the java.policy file.
The problem is : if i specify in the java.policy "AllPermision". i get a PrintService array from PrintServiceLookup.lookupPrintServices(null,null). But if i only specified "queuePrintJob" RuntimePermission option, the funtion return an array of length 0.
i guess that i need specified more java policy options to gain access to the printer information, but i can found information about it ....

  • Use two different printer services in one web template?

    Hi!
Is it possible to use two different help services for printing in the same web template (for the same table item)?
    Print1:
    <param name="HELP_SERVICE" value="HELP_SERVICE_PRINT"/>
    <param name="HELP_SERVICE_CLASS" value="ZCL_RSR_XLS_HELP_WINDOW_PRINT"/>
    Print 2:
    <param name="HELP_SERVICE" value="ZPRINTING"/>
    <param name="HELP_SERVICE_CLASS" value="ZBW_PRINT_HELP_SERVICE"/>
I was thinking that you maybe could change the param name values for the "Help_service" and the "help_service_class" at runtime using the properties for the table item, so that you could choose which one to use, but I havne't been able to do that so far.
    Does anyone have an idea?

This is not a problem. Just put the print service for the print to excel on an object other than the table web item. As long as these print services exist on any web item, you should be able to invoke them. I've tested this with putting the "Print with Excel" service on the Navigation Block Web Item and the other print service on the table web item. Hope that helps!

  • I have created a family recipe book in iBooks - can I print it using iPhoto's print service?

I have created a family recipe book in iBooks - can I print it using iPhoto's print service? I don't want to print it on our home printer - I want to print multiple copies for family members through the Apple iPhoto book printing service.  Can anyone help me please?

There is no Apple print service for iBooks, and iPhoto can also only print photo books created in iPhoto.
Print your iBook to pdf. Then you have several option:
Save the pdf to a thumbsdrive/stick  and take it to the nearest print shop close to your home.
Search online for "self publishing" services available in your country.
Recreate your book as an iPhoto Book. This will be a lot of work, since iPhoto's templates are more suitable for Picture books than books with lots of formatted text. To speed things up, you could use "Preview" to export the pages of your book as jpegs (high quality, at least 300 dpi) and add themas full-page photos to a new PhotoBook. This can be sent to apple for printing.
But the first two options would be much less trouble and probably be less expensive.

  • Print Service -- Queue Log location

    Hi,
I'm sure this is just a minor thing I should know, but I'm trying to find the individual Queue logs. In reading the OS X Server -Print Server Admin document, it mentions:
A print queue log records information such as the name of users who submitted
jobs, the size of each job, and errors associated with a job.
It then tells me how to view a Print Service log which only contains info on the Print service itself, but not how to view the individual Queue logs. I've dug around for the past 2 hours but cannot locate it. I'd really like to have a log of that info-- any help would be much appreciated.

I appears the nature of this question has changed a bit. I can't the queue logs because it appears my jobs are not being processed by the server.
Here's the deal. I have a 10.6 lab set up pointing to an 10.6 server. All of the lab computers are set up to printing, using the printers provided by my MCX prefs. When you print a document from the workstation, it processes and prints as expected-- however at no point does the server have this job appear in the queue.
I just want to see if there is something I've missed. I set up the server with the printers I want in my queue. I then added said printers to the list via workgroup manager. The workstations see AND print to only the printers supplied in workgroup manager. But it appears that jobs do not actually go through the queue-- it's almost as though they bypass the server and print directly to the printer. Is there a step I left out?
