Print Sizes Slightly Off - i.e.  8x10 prints as 7.9x10

I'm using a MacPro OSX 10.6.6. running Aperture 3. Camera is a Canon 1DsMkIII with raw capture. After prepping image I crop to 8x10 or 5x7 (for example) in Aperture. I then print to Epson 9880. Commonly my prints come out slightly smaller than 8x10, 5x7 or whatever I"m printing. This happens both in roll and custom paper sizes. In the print dialog in Aperture I have used crop to fill and not used it. I have used preset 8x10 and custom 8x10. Get the same outcome each time. I have taken same image and output to PS4. Printed no problem. Anyone else having this issue? I've tried all combinations and still get it. Frustrating. Thanks for insight.

If the 8" side prints as 7.9" then the side shorted is the short side. In other words, it's the shorter side which is printing too short -- right?
If you print using the "Standard" setting in the print dialog, once with the orientation (in the Layout section) set to Landscape and another time with the orientation set to Portrait, is the same side short-printed?
Fishing ... are you sure you have selected a color profile for your printer? (Looking for something set in Aperture different than what you have set in PS.)
Still fishing ... you might install a second instance of the printer driver and see what happens. And it wouldn't hurt to run a repair of your Library.
Is your monitor set to an unusual resolution?

  • Slightly off center

Epson has referred me to Adobe… My Epson ProStylus 7890 prints slightly off center when set to center from the Photoshop CS6 print dialog box. How can I fix this in Photoshop?

That would mean at best that the Epson printer driver plays nice with Apple's Preview but not with your version of Photoshop.
Maybe if you gave us sensible details about your setup and a more exact description of what you mean by off-center (vertically?  horizontally?  by how much?  what size prints, etc.)…
    BOILERPLATE TEXT:
If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand, such as your platform (Mac or Win), exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop and of Bridge, machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, video card specs, what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far, what error message(s) you receive, if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them, etc., someone may be able to help you.
A screen shot could be very helpful too.

  • Airtunes slightly off

New Apple TV user here... I set it up to also use my Airport Express speakers but the audio between the TV and Airport are not synced. It is slightly off so music has a slight echo effect.
    My setup:
Main router is a Linksys router and the Express is set up to join the network. I don't actually use the express for internet access, just for the remote speakers and printer features.

The syncing works fine from my computer to the Express, but does not from the ATV to the Express.
I also discovered another limitation to ATV's implementation of AirTunes... you can't be connected to Ethernet and the Airport Express at the same time. Once you plug in the Ethernet there is no way to use the Express. The reason I have ethernet plugged in is because I don't have the N wifi, only G so ethernet is much faster for syncing. On my mac I have the same setup... I am a connected both way and the Airport Express is there for AirTunes and my printer use only...
Someone please correct me if I'm wrong about this.

  • Slightly off topic - ATI test demos

    Hi,
    Slightly off topic question but...
Many years ago a friend of mine (albeit a PC user) showed me a graphics card render demo which was a take on the Lobby Scene from The Matrix, designed to show of his (then) high powered graphics card (this was about 8 years ago)
I was wondering if anyone knew of any websites that had these ATI graphics card rendering demos that would show off the power of the ATI X1900 card - I don't mean the .mov and .avi pre-rendered demo videos that are on ATi's site - I've already checked and the only ones they have are the ones for the older x800, what I'm after are things that are more like applications you run that render the video live. (ATI/AMD do have some but they are very old - when SmartShader 2.0 was released)
Anyone know? or alternatively, any other rendering apps that can show of my 512mb's of graphics card-age?
    This is purely for entertainment...
    Many thanks!
    Regards,
    Ben
    I hope this makes sense!

Usually push connectors for bare wires are designed for less or up to 200 circles ....
Depending on the number of test performed, mounting time, ... I would ask the push button manufacturers for test fixture connectors . Take the linecard of some distributors (digikey, RS ... ) to find them.
Might not be the cheapest solution on the first run, but for daily use good connectors are always worth the money.

  • Slightly off topic: JDev + 10g + recommended laptop

    Hi gang
This is a slightly off-topic post in the forum. Apologies to the forum moderators up front.
I'm in the process of purchasing a new laptop for development. Among other things I need to run Oracle 10g, + JDev + Solitaire.
My assumption for such a laptop is I'll need a fast hd (7200rpm+) for builds, and lots of memory to run Oracle 10g and memory hogging Java JDev. Also extra screen real-estate would be ideal with the multi-pane JDev.
However without the ability to walk into a laptop supplier, load up the software and do some tests, I'm not sure what would be sufficient. I don't want to go overboard on features in order to save $s, but I don't want something that wont run fast enough without bugging the Hell out of me either.
Does anybody have any recommendations on what laptop they are currently running or what they would buy to run Oracle 10g + JDev? Are my assumptions correct or does anybody run this config with less, happily?
    Any help appreciated.
    Cheers,
    CM.

I have been doing all of my jdev + oracle development exclusively on my PowerBook G4 for over a year now. JDev 9.0.5.2 runs great, and so does the new 10.1.3 preview. I have upgraded the memory on it to 1.5 GB, but even with the stock 512 it ran well. Plus, there are all of the productivity benefits from running Mac OS X. I was skeptical about it at first, as you might be, but once I switched over, I haven't even looked back. The 17 inch screen is beautiful, it works just fine on the Windows network at work, has all of the Unix tools underneath, and for the very few times a windows machine is needed, Virtual PC helps out. Do yourself a favor and check it out.

  • Slightly off topic: Read-only tables pre 11g

    Hi gang
I'm just writing up a database quiz for a local user group and I was hoping I could get a bit of inspiration from the database experts.
One of the questions will be "prior to 11g with the introduction of read-only tables, how could you make a table read-only?". The answers I've come up with:
    1) Security priviliges (schema + grant SELECT)
    2) Triggers
    3) Create a check constraint with disable validate
    4) Read-only tablespace
    5) Read-only database (standby)
    6) (Slightly crazy) Create view, and instead-of triggers that do nothing (similar to 2)
    7) Write the query results on a piece of paper and then turn the database off
Anybody have any other answers, real or slightly off topic like mine please? ;)
    Cheers,
    CM.

Check constraint and trigger solutions may have problems with sqlldr direct path operations, so using it together with alter table disable lock may be mandatory depending on the needs. Especially if DDLs are also wanted to be avoided.
This topic was once mentioned on Tom Kyte's blog or asktom but I couldn't find the source to link here.

  • Fonts are slightly off position after upgrading to new Mac OS X Snow Leopard

I just upgraded from a Macbook that was using OS X Tiger to a new Macbook with OS X Snow Leopard. Now, when I open my flash files on the new computer, they are rendering the fonts slightly differently and off position. I am using the same software (Flash CS4) and the same font library. Anyone ever encounter this problem? Is there a fix for this? Thanks so much!

You are lucky they are only slightly off!
It seems that there is a serious problem with how the new Snow Leopard is reporting font metrics to all programs. Those from Adobe (particularily the ones for layout type like InDesign) seem to be the most affected.
I saw somewhere that it had something to do with some version of a Helvetica or HelveticaNeue font and that apple had give there font the same internal name as a different one and that was causing the problem. Some folks seem to suggest that replacing/removing the offending font worked. Others saw the problem mitigated, but not removed.
As far as I know the only solution is to go back to regular Leopard. But if you have a new machine that is most likely not possible.
    Sorry.

  • Does anybody have an idea how to pre-tune an apple loop that is slightly off pitch?

    Aloha,
Does anybody have an idea how to pre-tune an apple loop that is slightly off pitch?
I have a great 44.1K minor key shamisen phrase sample that is 66 cents below C. I want to make it an apple loop and assign it's key to C minor. How would you suggest I do this so that when I use the subsequent apple loop it is in tune?
    Thanks in advance,
    Tony

Wow . . . seems strange that there are no responses. There are a lot of nice off-pitch samples out there and it would be great not to have to adjust them every time.
I did come up with a work around. Most of my sample editors introduce artifacts when I change the pitch so here's what I did. Using Sound Studio (great, btw) I made a loop and changed the pitch non-destructively. In this case my sample, played at -66 cents, became tuned to C. Noting that value, I used an internet cents to frequency converter (http://www.sengpielaudio.com/calculator-centsratio.htm) to come with the number to multiply with my original sample frequency. I changed my sample to this frequency (without resampling) then resampled it back to its original 48K. Now I was able to convert it to an apple loop perfectly tuned to C.
    Cheers!

  • MBP display dims slightly off while reading article....???

    Hi all,
I have done a lot of research in this discussion, but couldn't find the resolution. The MBP display always dims slightly off while not in use for 1 minute. If I check off the setting in the Energy Saver/Option/"Automatically reduce the brightness.....", then display dims off completely (dark...)!! It's very annoying since ever time when I read an article without moving mouse for 1 minute, then the display dims off slightly. I have to keep moving the mouse so it doesn't dim off.
Does anyone have the same issue? Does anyone find any resolution?? I talked to the Genius guy and they said they don't know what to do about it....
    Thanks in advance.

Okay okay, I see what you're saying... I thought you were saying it goes off and doesn't come back on or something.
Anyways, this is normal behavior but it can be prevented. Go to energy saver preference panel. For both battery and adaptor, slide the "put displays to sleep after" slider all the way to the right, which is never. Make sure also under the options tab, that you uncheck the "reduce brightness..." box.

Actually my roommate has a MBP too... he has the same problem.... only takes 1 minute for the display to dim off (not completely, only dim off the brightness...) but he said it doesn't bother him. For me it is really annoying...

thats just what it does for me, i dont have it set to anything to control that,

  • Native camera file size does not correspond to 8x10 or 11x14 prints, help

    Hi All,
If you could possibly provide me with some light room help.  I'm shooting with a Nikon D2H, and the files that are output from this camera are natively sized at 1632 x 2464.  So if I wanted to order an 8x10 print from my site, the photo would have to crop, same with 11x14, and so on. Those are standard sizes, and i would like the ability to purchase those size prints with out cropping photo.  Is there a way in light room to manipulate the original file before export, so that they could be ordered as 11x14 or 8x10 with out having to crop?
    Really appreciate any help,
    Joe

The aspect ratio is different on the camera files (2x3 aspect ratio) and the print sizes you listed. As noted, the way to get 8x10 or 11x14 prints of the entire image is to have different size borders around the image (wider borders on the long side than the short side). Here is a bit of info about aspect ratio that I use to help describe the situation: http://johncornicello.com/articles/aspectratio.html

  • Printing PDF's in Legal Size cuts off the top and bottom. How do I fix that

When I am saving a document to a PDF under the print section. I don't seem to be able to get it to print a lgal size document properly. It cuts off the top and the bottom. I also have this problem when I print a legal document as well. any suggestions?
    Thanks

It also has to be rotated correctly.
Did either of these suggestions help?

  • Can I print my file slightly off-center?

Hello, my InDesign file is a landscape 8.5" x 11" (letter) document. It's an event program, so it's designed to be folded down the middle.
Unfortunately my printer has an issue where it prints everything 1 mm lower than it should be.
Is there a way to have InDesign print my file +1 mm vertically? If not, I can just tweak my design to compensate.
    Thanks!

Have you tried a custom paper size—adjust the height + or - like this with the Page Position upper left. In this case I'm moving the print 10mm from the normal 215.

  • Pasted images always landing slightly off-center. Is there a fix?

I'm editing individual frames of an animation sequence. I find that when I add the next frame (jpg) as a new layer, it always lands a few pixels off from where it should be. Every frame is exactly the same size (1920x1080) and when photoshop opens and centers one frame on top of the previous one, it will randomly be around 2-6 pixels off, both horizontally and vertically. Because the difference is so slight, I didn't notice it until I rendered the first few frames and found that they were jittering.
Does anybody know about this problem and if there's any way to fix it? Manually moving it to the right place every time will be a huge pain as I have thousands of frames to get through.
    Cheers.
    Edit:
I know they can be matched up with the 'automatically align layers' command, but this will be useless when the camera is moving. And it takes ages to load that action. I simply just want each frame to be placed exactly on top of eachother, from corner to corner.

To enforce exact placement, simply do a Select All (Ctrl+A). Pasting into an existing selection will try to fit the content into that selection. Still, it shouldn't be necessary, so I can only assume that you have some ghost pixels there that cause the offset, i.e. they are invisible, but stil lrecognized by the program as valid pixels. Perhaps some feathering on your selection? not sure. Definitely something like that.
