Print Sizing and Quality Issues

When I print PDF documents I have issues with sizing and quality. I only have this issue with my Mac. Windows prints the files as they should be. I've tried two different printers, both over network. It doesn't matter whether I am in Adobe or in a browser. Basically it oversizes the documents and cuts off the edges. The quality on images and logos is severly degraded. This probelm existed in Lion and now in Mountain Lion. Any help?

What we need are the clip properties & sequence settings in Final Cut Express. Your screenshot is from a Finder window.
It would appear you have a clip with nonstandard frame size (1366x768) in an H.264 file. FCE cannot edit this material. FCE is limited to specific codecs and frame sizes. You need to convert your clip to QuickTime/Apple Intermediate Codec. If it's highdef widescreen then convert it to QT/AIC 1920x1080i. Try using MPEG Streamclip to convert the source clip.
You also need to be using a matching Easy Setup in Final Cut Express. If your source media file is QT/AIC 1920x1080i then you should select the AVCHD Apple Intermediate Codec 1920x1080i60 Easy Setup in FCE -AND- then create a new sequence before importing your clip into FCE and placing it in your sequence (timeline)

Jpeg export size and quality issues

I use a lot of photos in articles on the web and size them to about 250 x 166 pixels. I just tested Aperture, Photoshop CS2, Fireworks 8, and Graphic Converter at levels of low, med, high or 30, 60, 80 or 4, 6, 9.
The best quality in terms of sharpness, clarity and color was PS CS2, with Aperture second. But Photoshop's files were 12, 24 and 36 k respectively, where the Aperture files were 72, 74 and 88k. In fact even at quality 0, the Aperture-generated jpeg was 64k. Fireworks were 4, 8 and 16k but surprisingly poor quality. Graphic converter was 116, 120, and 124k, with decent quality.
It appears that Adobe's engine is more adept at re-sizing and compressing (not entirely surprising). It leaves me with a bit of a workflow issue, since opening the files from Aperture into CS2 leaves me with a gigantic .tiff in Aperture I don't need.
Full size jpegs could be exported from Aperture to a folder, then opened in Photoshop, resized, and saved for the web. I can automate the Photoshop part of it, but would need some help automating the whole process.
Any information and suggestions folks have would be appreciated! I am curious as to why there is a floor on the Aperture jpeg sizes. Maybe I need to turn some option off? I'd love to keep my workflow within a single program.....

OrgChart and OrgPlanning sizing and productivity issues

Dear Experts,
Our customer is going to implement OrgChart and OrgPlanning solutions and having some concerns regarding sizing, productivity and some others. Could you please clarify the following questions?
1. If some objects or data are blocked in the moment of fetching from SAP to Nakisa (or Nakisa DB), how is it going to react on Nakisa? How will this affect sending idocs? And also while doing backward process: sending data from Nakisa if there blocked objects in SAP which should be updated or changed.
2. What is going to happen if objects/data are deleted from SAP back-end system while it’s being modeled and then transferring back into SAP from Nakisa?
3. In terms of OrgModeler: is it possible to create a position or another type of objects (basically duplicate one) choosing from the list of existing ones? Or if it’s creating then the only option you have is creating a new one with unique ID?
4. Are there any other formulas or advices on how to calculate sizing and hardware needs except what is described in Capacity Planning Guide?

Larry, thanks for the suggestions. I'll have to try them when I get home from work. I'm working with a 45,000 image library. Have now prepared about 155 Faces. Only a few Places so far. Nevertheless the wait in interminable when you are trying to get things done. I have to initiate an action and then click away and do something else while iPhoto churns away. I have Menu Meters showing the CPU in the menu bar. Most actions in iPhoto (particularly Face scanning)force both CPUs to 100%.
I imagine one of the features dragging the system down is the repeated Face scanning of the whole library. A future update simply has to include a setting to turn this action OFF when you are not interested in matching more Faces. As it stands, even to simply look at a Faces album initiates a full scan of the library (CPU 100%). While I appreciate the feature, there has got to be some way of turning it OFF when all you want to do is view photos.

Font is changed when print out and other issues

Hi,
I need help with some of my issues with Diadem. I am quite new with Diadem.
I use Diadem to generate report from teststands. The data is passed from Teststands - VI using Diadem connectivity toolkit and a VB script is called to generate PDF and print out the computer.
1. First issue: the font on the diadem looks different with the one is printed out or in pdf. The font in pdf is bigger than in Diadem. You can look in my screenshot.
2. Second issue: sometime it cannot export pdf and the error message is Cannot open the .pdf file.
3. I need to get the channel name and the content of it in the script. Could you please tell me how to do it?

JUST PROBLEMS rendering and quality issues

Hey, all.
I've been posting here a few months and recently got a mac and fcp. I've been editing for over ten years on velocity and avid. Had great luck at figuring stuff out with manuals and the threads and freinds. But I'm at a total loss trying to figure out how to squeeze a decent title out of FCP. I've gone through the manuals, checked the settings, tried many workarounds and options, and I still get the jagged, shimmery text, especially on moves. I'm not doing anything special -- just a lame title. These titles look amatuerish -- quite frankly the kind of work I thought the amatuers were doing on FCP all the years I avoided it along with premeire -- wedding video crap systems. Okay, fcp and premeire have come a long way. AND I WANT TO LOVE THIS THING! BUT man, why is it so crazy just to get a right combo of settings to churn out a stupid title? Rendering makes things look worse. I've done everything! If someone is in Orange County/Anaheim and can drop by, I'll pay you! Seriously, this is terrible.
It seems like anybody struggling with this jagged title stuff on these posts never really solves anyting except for getting slightly better results and just plainly settling for less. I know I must be doing something wrong, but what???

Thanks for responding: Right now I'm using after effects. It's a little better. Ever since I've started on a mac I've had this issue. Yes, PC background.
Anyway, I've tried many approaches, Titler, motion, png alpha files with motion moves, boris titler -- all with low quality results. Everything is played back on a monitor, one via component, the other via sdi.
my timeline is dvcpro50, all the settings I know about are set to best. Fields set to none. I forgot all the other stuff I looked at, checked and tried. I think there's a fundamental thing I don't understand about rendering. The sequence rendering drop down menu has about 30 options, that are just foreign to me. I better spend more time with the manual. But I'm selecting render all with all the options checked for rendering. I get a grey bar over the timeline suggesting to me that everything is rendered. It's got to be user error combined with a really convolutive way to set up projects and workflow by fcp.

Canon FS100 import and quality issues

I have a imac (lastest model) and imovie 11. I have a canon camcorder. Flash memory one. I movie cannot read the mod files form camcorder or if I make them mpg's they still cannot be read.
If I try to import them via usb into imovie there is alot of image degradation. If I do this on a windows computer, the image quality is perfect.
What can I do to fix this problem on a mac?

Printing Banners and Driver Issues

I have recently updated some family tree stuff and wanted to print this off on a multi page banner. I have 2 HP printers a Photosmart 5520 and a P1102W laser printer and neither appear to give the option to print a multipage banner.
After a search it was suggested by someone that the driver for the Deskjet 6980 would work on the 5520 however I cant find it to downoad anywhere.
I have a macbook running osx 10.8 and all the option say to upgrade drivers via the software update feature but given I dont currently have a deskjet 6980 then I cant get the upgrade (even the HP site for the driver doesnt seem to have a driver to download)
Is there a way to get an updated software for any of the printers I have that would let me print a banner or get a compatible driver that will?
Seems a bit weird that the printer I had 15 years ago let me print banners but these new ones won't
Anyway, I hope someone can help

Hello scm256. I understand you are having banner printing and driver upgrade issues.
In terms of banner printing, only our higher-end printers are almost guaranteed to possess that capability. I will post the specifications of both the printers, so you can review the supported paper sizes and types:

In terms of updating the drivers, you are probably experiencing that the printers you own do not possess any driver updates at this time, especially an older printer like the Deskjet 6980. Also, there likely will not be a driver update for banner printing, for any printers that do not originally support it.

Video from iPhone to iMovie on Mac and quality issues

Task: Wanting to take video from my iPhone 5 into iMovie HD Version 6.0.3 to do some editing, trimming, transitions, etc. I have done this on many occasions but have NEVER been able to share/export the finished product with any kind of quality result. I want to upload to youtube and it never looks very good. Looks "ok" if just viewed as is, but if you click on full-screen it does not look good.
I have never liked any of the other newer versions of iMovie - old dog new tricks problem. I have versions 9.0,9 and 10.0.3 and maybe I need to use one of those to solve the problem. If so would someone please tell me should I export as .mov or .mp4 and what exact settings to use.
If I can get good quality using iMovie 6.0.3 then would someone please tell me should I export as .mov or .mp4 and what exact settings to use.
It seems like this should be such a simple process but for the life of me I can't figure out how to make it so. I see many other videos that I know have been taken on people's phones and edited and they look great - even when shown in full screen.

Backup to DVD and quality issue

I didn't find anything related to what I am trying to find out.. so here goes.
I am using PE4 to catalogue and organize my video files (which I am editing in PE2).
One project has 9 AVIs, each of which is less than 4 gigs, and which I copied individually to 9 DVDs with the BURN\move files option.
A second project has 3 AVI's, each of which is roughly 28 gigs. I thought that rather than breaking these up into small 3-4 gig files (as I did with the first project) that I would just let PE4 tell me how many DVDs I would need.
It said this AVI was about 188 minutes and that it would need 1 DVD (only). It would appear that PE4 is basically determining the best DVD copying rate to make it fit, in as few DVDs as possible.
I'm afraid that this will create an inferior copy, which I don't want, as these AVIs are my best, captured off of original 8mm tapes.
Is there a way to control the DVD copying speed for maximum quality?

Well I'm no expert and I don't have a lot of experience with many kinds of video cameras. My very first was a video 8 Olympus when these first came out in the late '80's! It languished unused until this year, I started using it to capture, and then it promptly died. I had to borrow a co-worker's 8 to finish capturing the old stuff.... a family history project I began in '95.
I finally decided to get back to this project, and after balancing the features/cost, decided the 3CCD was worth it, this one in particular because it includes optical image stabilization rather than electronic, and various forums stated this made quite a difference.
I'm very pleased with it. It has a manual focus ring, an external mike input (a real must for me), great pictures even indoors with natural lighting, and an easy to get-used-to menu toggling switch.
There is now a newer model of this discontinued 250, and the reviews are really mixed. It's actually a dumbed down version of the 250! The reviewer said: "Get a 250 while they're still around." No manual focus ring, no mike input I believe, and a few other things.
So, maybe this will help. Stay away from DVD recorders though, as they make editing not only difficult but the edited results are degraded... Better to record with a DV tape and capture directly to DV-AVI, avoiding the DVD compression those cameras have to do before you even get started.
Well, this really belongs in the Pr.Elements2 forum. I think the PE4 and the PE2 are both great products though.

HP Officejet Pro L7590 - print quality issue

We've had a lot of problems with this unit since day one. It simply wouldn't work with our XP computers. Thankfully it does work with our new Windows 7 computer.
The problem I'm having is that I have to clean the printheads at least once, if not twice, before every print job if it hasn't printed anything recently (even an hour or two).
Although we've had the printer for a while, it has hardly been used because it wouldn't work with our previous computers (and I gave up trading emails with HP support because the situation just got worse each time we tried something, not better). The myPrintMileage function says we've printed just over 300 pages (and I can pretty much guarantee that at least 250 of those have been diagnostic pages trying to get it working, not actual print jobs).
The only advice I can find on the troubleshooting page is to replace the printhead/s. Is that really the case? We have already had to replace ink cartridges before we ever got the printer working. If we now have to replace one or both printheads this machine is proving very costly to run. I would be very disappointed to find we had had to replace all four ink cartridges and both printheads before we ever got the machine working properly.
I'd appreciate any feedback you can offer on this please.

Print quality issues

We are having print quality issue when printing PDF's to our Canon iR C2880/C3380 UFR II. This was the most recent print driver from canons website which was download about 6 weeks ago. version 2.9. At one time we were having other pring quality issues and we changed from the post script driver to the ufr ii which solved the problem at the time.
This past saturday we upgrade the operating systems on the systems in question and they are now running windows 7 64 bit with service pack 1 installed. image 1 is the orignal pdf that was printed with a 3rd party pdf printer(PDF Xchange view version 2.5) image 2 is the same document that was printed using acrobat reader 10.1.2
the options for the print were pretty much identical between the program. Print as image was not selected. 1 thing to note with the acrobat when print as image was selected there was a slight improvement in the print quality.
Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Off the bat, it looks like maybe bad RAM/ROM in the Printer, or corrupt Font.
Can you have another Computer jook to it and print for a test?

Print Quality Issues on OfficeJet Pro 8500 A909g

The print utility says that the onlly cartridge getting low on ink is the yellow, but the guide says not to change the cartridge until it gives you the message to change it. And it has been printing OK until today, when the black ink started getting splotchy. But the utility shows plenty of black ink in the cartridge. I cleaned the print heads, and that changed nothing. I printed out a print head health quality test, and oddly the only thing that printed was two blocks of magenta--the rest totally blank. Odd because the print utility only shows the yellow getting low and that not even ready to change.
I don't want to open up new cartridges for nothing because these signs don't necessarily add up to this being due to empty cartridges. So I am stuck as to how discover what the problem is.

Hp Color Laser Jet 5550dn Print Quality Issues

Good Afternoon,
I have a Hp Color Laser Jet 5550dn that has some print quality issue. I've attached a black and white scan, but the color is a light blue to blue that form the blotches. On the back of the page there are blue and pink streaks.
I can print more sample pages or print them in color, but anyone have any idea what could be going on here?

We are encountering a similar problem. The streaking is coming fromt the Cyan cartridge and has continued for over a year now, despite numerous cartridge changes and replacing the transfrer case. It is progressively getting worse and I have yet to find a solution to this problem online. Any help or guidance would be appreciated.

The photo print quality from my Mac to my Epson Artisan 810 is poor. When I take the same photo files (JPEGs) to my PC to print to the same printer without even uploading them to the PC, they print brighter and crisper from my PC.

When I first tried printing, I noticed the quality wasn't as good as I expected it to be. Then, I had to print 4-3.5x5s on a sheet, so I e-mailed the image to myself and opened it on my PC to print it (much easier to print that way on PC in Windows Photo Gallery - I think it's impossible to print that way in iPhoto). That's when I first noticed that when I take the same photo files (JPEGs) to my PC to print to the same printer without even uploading them to the PC, they print brighter and crisper from my PC.
I've already been on the phone and e-mail w/Applecare many times over this issue. We've tried creating a test user and printing from there, and we've tried reinstalling the OS. I've tried printing from iPhoto, ImageCapture, and Preview apps/utilities, all w/the same result - no comparison to the PC-printed versions (no enhancements have been performed on the PC).
I'm out of ideas, and so is Applecare. They say it's most likely a driver issue b/c the printer is outdated, and that the only solution is to buy a new printer. BUT it is a pain for me to purchase a new printer - it takes days of research due to the nature of my business and the fact that I need a printer that can print directly onto a disc. I love this printer and don't want to have to buy a new one if I don't have to.
