Print - Stroke Border

Print - Stroke Border needs a finer setting than 1pt. ½pt, ¼pt and hairline should be added to the options.

  • What is the smallest stroke border that can go on an image in Indesign?

I have saved two different versions of my photobook, and the images are all very high key with some of the edges being lost. So I wanted to put the very bare minimum of a border on my images so it doesn't look like a clunky black box around the very delicate imagery. In the first version I selected a black border with .01pt stroke border, and for the second version I selected .001pt stroke border. However on screen they look identical, and when I printed some proofs they looked identical.
Is there a limit to how thin the stroke can be around images, and are both versions the same like they seem to be? Because going from .01pt to .001pt should be a noticeable difference, but it's not.

    Karl Photographer wrote:
Check out the comparison i just made with 0.01pt and the recommended 0.25pt. The 0.25pt just looks awful.
If my cheap home printer can print .01pt and still be completely visible then I'm fairly confident any professional printers I send it to will not struggle.
Karl, a printer cannot print a line thinner than its own pixel size. Below this, it has to choose between printing nothing and printing the thinnest line it can. Usually it prints it. (And Ellis: well ... if you zoom in on your screen with a screen zooming utility -- Ctrl + Mouse Roll on a Mac -- you will see that InDesign has a similar problem. It can draw a single pixel thick line but nothing 'smaller', although it may attempt to do so by drawing in light gray.)
Press quality is upward from 2400 dpi, which is in points 0.03 pt (and lower for higher output resolutions). A 0.03 pt line, in human measurements, is 0.4 of a thousandth of an inch, or 1/10th of a millimeter. You must admit, that is pretty thin.
A 0.25 pt line is visible as a hair line, and is just (but only just) thick enough to see it with the bare eye and discern it as a separator in a table, for example.

  • Stroke/Border Disappears When Viewing on HTML File

    Hello -
    I am using Flash CS5.5.
I am working on Flash banners and I want to place a 1 pixel stroke/border around each banner.
I did the usual, created a new layer, used the rectangle tool, put in the correct stroke number (1 pixel), matched the size to the banner and aligned it correctly, etc.  The stroke is the exact dimensions of the banner/movie and the stroke is on the top layer.
When I Preview/Test the banners within Flash the stroke/border looks fine.  However, after I publish and I view the published SWF and also separately on a HTML page, the border/stroke does not show up on the right side and on the bottom.
If I change the stroke to 2 pixels (from 1 pixel), then the right side shows up but the bottom still does not.
Any ideas why this is happening?
    Thanks!!!

Well I found the answer here:  http://furizu.net/blog/2009/08/the-myth-about-flash-border/#more-312
Not sure why it has to be done this way but it works.  If anyone else has other solutions I am still interested.
    Thanks

    Hi @fatin7899
Did you choose A4 in the paper size selection in the program you are printing from?  What program are you using to print from, and have you maybe tried a different program?
Are you able to print this project onto a different size page successfully?

  • JA4580 will not print right border of document in any reduction

My printer cuts off right edge of document in any reduction.  Can not access print preview.
Please advise correction in non technospeak.

    Hi @rjclark42,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I noticed that your HP Officejet J4580 will not print right border of document in any reduction. I am happy to look into this for you!
For further assistance, I will need to know:
If you are using a Windows or Mac Operating System, and the version number. To find the exact version, visit this link. Whatsmyos.
If the printer is connected, Wireless, Ethernet, or USB.
If the printer is able to make copies.
If the power cable is plugged into a surge protector, or directly to the wall outlet. Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well.
The name of the program you are printing from.
If you are using Windows, please try our HP Print and Scan Doctor, and let me know what happens!

  • Custom package printing - photo border not printing

LR 3 on XP Pro, Epson 2400
I've created a custom print layout with 8 cells. The 'Photo Border' is ticked at 3.0pt and this shows up on layout.
When I print the page all the photos are borderless. Print to file shows no borders either.
Any clues as to why my borders aren't showing up ?
    Thanks

    Geoff,
Thanks for reply. Are you sure you don't have 'inner stroke' ticked ? Your screenshot of Lightroom appears to show 2 borders, the white one and the dark coloured one. Your print from PS only shows the dark one.
I have an A3 page size with several cells. I have page colour of white ('Page Background Colour' unticked).
If I tick 'Photo Border' (and untick 'Inner stroke') then what I see on screen is each photo surrounded by a white border, with the border deliniated by a black line. When printing to paper or printing to file you cannot 'see' a border, because it's a white border on a white background. The black line that shows on screen doesn't print. If I overlap the photos I can clearly see a white border where one picture sits on top of another.
I am now presuming that the black line is only there to let you know there is a border you can't see and that it's not intended to print. Slightly counterintuative to me.
I suppose what I'm looking for is a frame rather than a border.
Actually now I think about it some more the black line I'm talking about is actually the bondary of the cell itself rather than anything to do with the border.

  • Printing problem with Print Layout Border:

I can't get Pages to recognize the Border: function under Layout when I go to Print. I'm using an HP Photosmart C6280 with Driver Version 2.3.1 (which I believe is the latest version).
It appears that I have everything set up correctly. A month or so ago I had problems printing shadows and two-sided pages. The driver update fixed those problems. So I'm caught between wondering if I've got something set incorrectly or have stumbled across another bug.

    MWU,
I received the following response from HP. I use a C7280, so the references here are to that model. You would need to substitute downloads appropriate to your C6280. Their recommendation is obviously quite involved, and it would be your choice as to whether you would want to do all this. I guess some of it depends on balancing your needs with what they suggest. I do not want to go through all this for my own printer, even though I have experienced the same border problem. In these forums, it is important that we only post suggestions that have been tried and evaluated. I have NOT evaluated what they suggest, but I said I would relay to you what they recommended, and that is what I'm doing. Your work-around may be the simpler choice. This is what they wrote:
There are pre-installed generic drivers called Guten drivers within the Macintosh os 10.5 which may be causing the software conflict or corruption leading to this issue. The most effective way of resolving this situation is to remove all files relating to HP printers and then install the latest drivers that are available from the HP website.

In some situations the All-in-One Setup Assistant will ask you to open the Printer Setup Utility in order to add the printer manually. If prompted with this please do the following:
As the HP All-in-One is connected through a network using Ethernet or wireless:
Click the button labeled Printer Setup Utility.
When the Printer Setup Utility opens, click the Add button.
Click the More Printers button at the bottom; a new dialog box will open.
Now select HP IP Printing from the drop down menu
Select your unit from the list of printers available.
Now you may close the Printer Setup Utility by clicking the red dot at the top-left corner of this window. Complete the installation by registering the product if you have not already done so and choosing whether you wish to see the Product tour or not.
Now double-click on the downloaded Update file and follow the prompts to install it.
We recommend trying both printing and scanning to prove the functionality of both.
    **NOTE**
When the updated software has been completely installed and all functions are verified, you may trash the loginwindow.plist as it is no longer required.
This should resolve the issue. If you need further assistance, please reply to this message and we will be happy to assist you further.

  • Export in pdf for print inexistant border

    Hello,
I try to export an Indesign CS5 file in pdf for print.
If I choose PDF1.4, X-4:2008  I have a dark rectangle like a shadow under several text. I thought it was a transparency problem but I now set up the transparency to High Quality.
If I choose PDF1.3  I don't have the shadow issue anymore but a white border around the text and images which had been rotated.
I'm not a specialist in pdf export for print so I don't know what is the best settings and how to fix my issue.
Can it be only a screen issue and be ok for the print??
    Cheers,
    Elodie

I apologize for not getting to this sooner.
How are you viewing the PDF that shows the discoloration? Acrobat or some other application? Is overprint preview turned on in Acrobat?
This is definitely transparency related. When you choose PDF 1.3 you are flattening the transparency and the white lines you see are called "stitching." Thay ae a dispaly artifact in Acrobat (they'll disappear if you turn off smoothing), and though they may show in a low-resolution digital print, they are usually not apparent in high-resolution output from a press.

  • How to Add Stroke (Border)?

I imported a bunch of bmps to the timelime. I'd like to add a white border to some of them. In Photoshop, this is called a "Stroke" and it's a simple layer style. In Premiere Pro CS3, I can't even figure out how to do it.

The clip effect was indeed handy.
Heres a filter that will do what you want:
    1. Size your photo however you like with motion/scale settings
    2. Drop the Radial Shadow filter on the clip (perspective folder)
    3. Set the filter thusly:
    Shadow color as desired
    Opacity 100%
Projection Dim: start with 7; adjust to make border width as desired
Softness: start with 0 or adjust as desired
    Render: as desired
    Shadow only unchecked
    Resize Layer: CHECKED
That will provide a border color of your choice and width and it will adjust as you scale or move the image.
Tip: Set it how you want, then paste the same filter into the same clip again and change the 2nd one to a contrasting color. Now you will have a matted photo look. Add a subtle soft drop shadow to sell it a bit more (put the drop shadow after both radial filters).

  • IPhoto printing a border when it shouldn't

One specific picture in iPhoto is printing out with a border, no matter what I do. I have the paper size set as custom (7.5x5.5), and I have tried printing with print size set to both borderless and custom (also 7.5x5.5). How do I get it to print edge to edge on my paper? It is not shrinking the design within the border, it is cutting part of it off. I have never had this problem on any of the pictures I have printed before. Thanks

Unless you crop teh photo sot the same ratios (75x55 for example) then it will not fit the print size and something will be cut out

  • Any solution yet for printing a border from the print menu HP?

I assume you are referring to:
    +Menu > File > Print > Border: Single/Double Hairline/Thin+
Not something that I myself use, so I tested it and you are right it does not appear.
I tested it on a pdf.
The reason it doesn't show up is because it is underneath the white background of the page. This is a bug in the way pages are formed up by Pages. It also causes problems with watermarking pages.

    Tell Apple about it. http://www.apple.com/feedback/pages.html

  • CP2025DN printing Magenta Border on outer edges of Paper.

I have a CP2025 DN that has worked fairly good for a while now, but recently I've started having a pale magenta (pink) looking border printing up/down the outer edges of the paper.  In the recent few weeks it has consistently gotten darker it seems.  It will appear on the edges even if you use the black only print option with black text only on the page.  I have run it through several cleanings, and also several calibrations with no luck.  I have also open all trays, and both front and back doors and cleaned every piece as good as possible, once again with no luck.
Anyone else had this problem?  If so, how did you get it fixed?  Anyone from HP able to point me in the right direction?
HELP!!!   We need our Documents to look good, thats why we bought this printer.
    Thanks in Advance.

  • Printing with Border off centre

When i try to print a 4x6 print with a border the print module is putting the following minimum margins: L 0.35 R 0.32 T 0.28 B 0.53 so the rpint is off centre. I can't make these any smaller and making them all 0.53 looks to big. Any ideas it doesn't put the image centrally?
I tried resizing the image in PSE5 editor to exacly 4x6 but made no difference.

I tried borderless and it does set the margins to zero. However when I put in 0.2 cm and print it doesn't come out quite right. Looks fine on the LR preview. Cell dimension in LR are correct at 14.84x9.76 but actual print is 14.6 x 9.8 and sightly off centre (L 0.15 R 0.25).
This is much better than I was getting as had a look in the Canon print properties and under Page Layout in the Borderless section there is a slider "Amount of Extension". I set this to the left so the minimum and got a big improvement.
That's close enough to be usable at least tks Jao

  • Order prints with border through iPhoto

Is there a simple way to order prints through iPhoto's Kodak service and have them include a border?
It seems in order to use the iPhoto print order service you need to have 1 click ordering turned on which only give you a single option of "Buy".

The only way I've found is to use photos that have a border when viewed in iPhoto.
I have a way that isn't that easy for a one-time but it works if you order frequently. I use Pages from iWork '08:
    # Go to Page Setup in a Pages blank document and create a 4x6 (or whatever size you order) custom page.
    # In Page Setup, choose this to be your page
    # Drop in an image from the Media window and size it as you would like
    # Define the image as a placeholder from the Format> Advanced menu
    # Save this as the template for your photo
    # Next time you need a photo with a border, just choose the template
    # Drop a photo into the photo that exists on the template, the new photo will replace the one in the placeholder
    # Print, then in the Print dialog choose Print PDF to iPhoto
    # A photo with a border is placed in iPhoto. Order that one.
It's a pain for just a border, I know. But you can add text, graphics and inset photos and stuff to your Pages template and get a nice photo with custom artwork - at that point it's far less trouble than using the web-services that places offer.
