Print to lpt1 where remote desktop client has usb printer

I have a client with an usb printer and need to print an UPS label report from Microsoft Dynamic NAV on an remote server that prints only to LPT1. I've set the client printer as shared printer and selected LPT1 and USB ports.  When the client is connected
to the server through remote desktop, the redirected printer can print a test print but running the report from the application on the server will not print  to the client's printer.  The report shows that it was sent to LPT1 but there are no errors
or print jobs in the printer queue.  I've also tried to use "net use" to set up the shared printer to LPT1 but that didn't work either.  And I've installed the printer on the server to LPT1 as well and that did not work either.
Any help is greatly appreciated.  The server is Windows Server 2008 R2 and the client is Windows 7.
Thanks,

  • "remote desktop connection has stopped working" When printing from remote desktop connection

I have been having a issue when using a windows 7 machine. I have Remote Desktop to a session on Windows2008 R2, I am using the local printer resources to redirect the printing. However everytime i try to print it crashes the remote desktop application.
Gives me "remote desktop connection has stopped working." I have 4 other computers connected and printing with no issues what so ever. This only happens when i print. It does print by the way just the application crashes.
-I have also updated the printer drivers to newest possible thru the manufactorer website. The printer is a Brother MFC-8890DW. Windows 2008 R2 is up to date for the RDS server. 3 other machines are able to Remote in and print. The user is able to print using
diffrent machines just not the Windows 7 machine.

    Hi,
Happy to hear that you resolved your issue. For another issue which you are facing here trying to provide some suggestion.
As you have commented that you are facing issue with second screen resolution on wide screen. The setting which I am suggesting can only applies when you are using multi-monitor Remote Desktop connections.  If you are making Connections using a single
monitor do not use this setting.
So for this you can try to apply “Limit maximum display resolution” setting in group policy, where you can mention the width & height for the screen to display. The setting can be applied on below mentioned
    path.
    Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Remote Session Environment
Meanwhile sharing article with you for more information.

  • Since the Remote desktop client update 3.8.2 V1.1 my Indesign CS4 crashes when I try to print. Does anyone else have this problem?

Problem with remote desktop client update

I find it interesting that since Screen Sharing is available, and works "just fine" that a Remote Desktop Client would be needed to be installed.
I installed it, but I'm not sure why.
I found the updated application in /System/Library/Core Services/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent
Which is also where the screen sharing and vnc bundles live.  I clicked on it to see what would happen -- nothing.
I found these ports in another discussion
    TCP and UDP port 3283
TCP and UDP port 5900.  (Also used for Screen Sharing in OSX 10.5 and later)
    port 22
This page confirms their use along with the use of other ports:
TCP and UDP ports used by Apple software products - Apple Support
Additionally TCP port 5432 is used by ARD
Having recently noticed (through "network utility" that my computers have had a "ton" of open connections.
    This severely hurt system performance.
I note that neither my Airport Express nor my Mac can set up a firewall on these ports.
While I haven't noticed the ARD ports being used, I cannot help but wonder if this is set up for a CIA/NSA backdoor into my computers.
On a less paranoid level, perhaps Apple is planning on adding on-line help to debug our problems in "real-time".  ;-)

  • HT201332 where do i find my Apple Remote Desktop client

I have the Apple Remote Desktop client installed on my Mac but cant find the application anywhere.? Where do i find it to start using. Thanks

Like varjak paw said, the client is only part of the ARD solution. By enable the client on your computer, you can connect to it from another mac on your local network using Apple Remote Desktop.
If your looking for a free altertive you could try VNC. The limitation of ARD and VNC is that without configuring your firewall you won't be able to connect to your mac from over the internet.
If you want an easy way to connect to your mac from over the internet I would suggest checking our logmein.

I don't know if you have been there, but a very suspicious icon!  (Like this one on a NSA satellite: http://b-i.forbesimg.com/kashmirhill/files/2013/12/Satellite-logo-for-spying.jpg)  Yikes!

  • HT201332 Remote Desktop Client Update?

Why does Apple Software update keep giving me Remote Desktop Client updates, when I do not have Apple Remote Desktop installed on my computer (to my knowledge)?
I have not updated it once since I've had this computer (about 3 years), and I don't intend to until I know what it is for.

The Mac OS X operating system is made up of many components. Things like CUPS for printing, Bonjour for local network Device Discovery, TCP/IP for network communication, USB Mass Storage Driver for flash drives and external driver, USB Human Interface Driver for a verity of mice and keyboards. There are hundreds if thousands of components.
One of those built-in Components is Apple Remote Desktop Client. Every Mac with 10.5, 10.6, 10.7 has Apple Remote Dekstop Client Built-In. It's just part of the operating system; you can find it in system prefrences sharing. It'd tighy next to printer sharing, remote access, internet sharing, file sharing, extra.
When enabled in system prfrences, sharing, Apple Remote Desktop Client, would typicly be used in a multi computer environment. Perhap one person would supports many uers remotely. Perhaps this user would proive technical support, answering questions, and provide training. OR perhaps one user has many computers; and they don't want to have to walk across the house or office to grab one file on the other computer.
While you may not use Apple Remote Desktop Client; it's probable a good idea to install the update. Apple Software Update may not offer you other updates important update untill you install all the udpates it currently offers you.
Even if it's a component that you currently do not use. Those updates can patch bugs, improve security, and improve performance of your computer as a whole.

  • Remote Desktop Client software does not match

    hello,
I run ARD 3 as administrator and just swapped machines by using Migration Tool. Now my ARD on the new machine tells me that "The Remote Desktop Client software on this computer does not match the Administrator software version. the Remote Desktop Administrator software requires a newer version of the client software"
    how do i accomplish this?
    thanks in advance

Sounds like the new machine might still have version 2.2 client? So download and install the newest client, if that fails follow the instructions Apple has for removing ARD (kb #108021) and wipe out everything, then it shouldn't balk. Although there is a setup bug, where if you update a client machine to 3.1 but then try and install the ARD 3.0 CD it will complain and quit! Following kb #108021 wil allow you to install (or go into the actual mpkg and install the individual .pkg file) but doing this made me wonder if I was missing out on some postflight script that does something useful... so I didn't try and make force it. Just make it happy with an ARD lobotomy, then reinstall :/

  • Remote desktop client software not active

I'm sorry if this has been asked before but I'm a bit bewildered by this errormessage (and I couldn't get a hit when I searched for it) when I try to drag a file from the xserv to the macbook pro desktop, remote desktop client software not active.
The macbook has the ard server and connects to the xserv ppc. It connects over the internet.
The xserv is behind a iptables fw and I have forwarded 3283 tcp/udp plus 5900 udp/tcp to the server. Have I forgotten a port ?
    I've read through http://www.starkpr.com/ard.htm as well as http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20070302234400232&query=vnc%2Bsimpl e%2Bset%2Bup
and tried to find out more from the discsussions here.
The macbook pro sits behind an airport which is hooked into the dsl modem. Do I need to configure port forward in the airport as well.
Connecting to the xserv and working on it works great but the copy file transfer fails.

Hi there I took new try at this and this is what finally solved it for me.
The earlier answer I got was very good advise but I had already done that bit, actually I might have overdone it a bit I had checked all the boxes under the useraccount on sharing.
    Back to business.
Firewalling. I realised I need to open and portforward at both locations and remeber it's booth tcp and udp.
So at the xserve location I needed to forward 3283 and 5900 both tcp and udp from outside to the IPnumber of the xserve.
At home with my macbook I needed to do the same.
However this did not solve it, I had forgotten one software on the macbook. On the xserve I had installed ARD upgraded it to 3.1 AND installed the upgrade for ARD 3.1 client. The client part I had forgotten at home. So once my ARD and ARD client software matched I could connect to the xserve and drag and drop files booth ways.
ARD wasn't running on the xserve I just had it installed along with the client software.
So portforwarding in firewalls and the same software and versions in all locations seems to have solved it for me.
A small note enabling/disabling the firewall in macbookpro did nothing for me since when enabled ARD rules were in place and active so it still worked.
I hope I made some sense.

  • Remote Desktop Client Update 3.8.2 v.11 remains in Software Update queue but, is listed (several times) under "Updates Installed in Last 30 Days.

Remote Desktop Client Update 3.8.2 v.11 remains in Software Update queue but, is listed (several times) under "Updates Installed in Last 30 Days". This is also the case with HP Printer Software update 3.0 and Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 6.03. Clicking the "update" button for these doesn't appear to install the software, but lists it in the "Updates Installed in Last 30 Days" without removing it from the Software Update queue.

Thank you. I tried that and even gave it a few days to do its thing, but I still get the same results. Remote Desktop, HP Printer, Digital Camera all still appear in "Available Updates", but the same versions appear under "Updates Installed in the Last 30 Days". BTW, I had to manually install the Safari 8.0.4 update because it also wasn't updating.

  • Remote Desktop Client update 3.8.2 keeps appearing

I installed the remote desktop client update 3.8.2 on my mini (Yosemite) without any probs. On my Air it is appearing over and over again although it shows up (5 times in the meantime) as being installed correctly.
    Whats going wrong?
I had this issue with one of the latest printer updates, but was able to solve this by downloading the installer separately.
Is there a download for the remote client update anywhere.
    Thanks
    Stefan

    Try re-indexing Spotlight.
    Spotlight – Re-index
If that doesn't work, try control - clicking on the update to see if you get a Hide Update option.

  • RD Gateway issue from Mac Remote Desktop client - 503 RPC Error: c0021012

I have an employee who is able to use the Mac Remote Desktop client to connect to her office PC via RD Gateway, but after a short time she consistently has her connection dropped with a
503 RPC Error: c0021012.  I've researched this a little and apparently it refers to an expected shutdown condition (RPC_P_CONNECTION_SHUTDOWN) rather than a true RPC "exception".  Also, the error almost always occurs exactly
10 minutes after the connection is established, so I'm wondering if a timeout is occurring due to a heartbeat/keepalive not getting through, the expiration of a token or credential, or something similar(?).  Any help would be appreciated, here's a section

  • Remote Desktop Client Update 3.7.0

I'm using a 2012 MacBook Pro with OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.5. When I visited the Mac App Store today, there was an Apple software update available for download - Remote Desktop Client Update 3.7.0. I don't own or use Apple Remote Desktop and to my knowledge, it's not installed on my mac in any way. Has this happened to any other non-users of Apple Remote Desktop?

The Apple Remote Desktop CLIENT is part of the operating system and present on every mac.  If you haven't engaged Remote Management in the System Preferences/Sharing pane, it can't be used.  But it CAN be updated!  Hence the message.
The ARD administrative package used to control a client is not on every mac and is something that must be purchased.  But to control other computers the client software must be there, so Apple just has it as part of the OS in case you ever need it.

  • How to enable users to access windows 2012 through remote desktop client on windows XP SP3

Hi I have just installed Windows Server 2012 and trying to give access to the users. The users are on windows XP Pro SP3 remote desktop client (Shell and control version 6.1.7600 with Remote Desktop Protocol 7.0 support).
I have enabled the windows server 2012 remote desktop users through "control panel -> systems and security ->  Remote access" for the users. When I try to connect to the windows server as administrator, it is getting connected.
But when I try to connect as other users I get the following message.
"To sign in remotely, you need the right to sign in through Remote Desktop Services. By default members of the Administrators group have this right. If the group you're in does not have the right, or  if the right has been removed from the Administrators
group, you need to be granted the right manually."
Is there any other setting to be done to eanble the Remote Desktop for the users.

Have you tried adding those users to the "Remote Desktop Users" group? It's in Active Directory Users and Computers and it's a Built-In group. Might want to give that a try ...

  • Missing "sharing" option in system preferences after installing apple remote desktop client version 2.10

    Hi All,
I installed a wrong version of Apple remote desktop client , 2.10 and the sharing menu under system preferences vanished. I tried to uninstall the Apple remote desktop with,
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2577
but no luck, but after restarting the macbook pro with lion 10.7.2, i see my sharing option enabled but when clicked, it says the system preference has to restart and confirming that it restarts in 32 bit mode and even after clciking the sharing option it says, "you can't open sharing preferences because it doesn't work on an intel-based mac"
. So i strongly believe the apple remote desktop is creating the issue.
Can someone help how to fix this please?
    Thanks

Same problem here. I manage several remote Macs, but I have one MacBook which I can get no ARD access to (black icon). I can ping the IP, I can SSH into the MacBook, the ARD and Remote Login services are checked ON, the firewall is OFF. The ARD service is configured to allow my admin user full access - however, I get nothing. I have no trouble getting into the other Macs.
    Any ideas?
