Print to Video - Canon HV30

Every time I try to print to video, my camera records nothing but a blue screen in DV mode. Not sure why this is happening. I would like to print to tape in HDV, not DV.
My Settings and equipment stats are below. Help!
Camera: Canon Vixia HV30
FCP: 7.0.3
Sequence Settings: HDV 1080i60
Easy Setup Settings: HD 1080i60 Firewire Basic
27" iMac 2.8 (2009)

This might help...

  • Print to Video FCE4.01 Canon HV30

For some reason I cannot get the Print to Video function to work with my HV30.
FCE captured the video perfectly, but when the Transcoding to HDV process completes the camera records nothing.
    Any ideas?

There is no easy setting for Apple Codec. Are you using HDV 1080i60?
There's most likely a problem using the external drive and communicating with it. What I'd suggest is exporting a self-contained QuickTime Movie to the internal drive. Disconnect the external drive. Reimport the the export file and place it in a sequence. Trash your preferences and reboot. Then try printing to video the single file. Make sure you render everything and mixdown the audio before you print to video.

  • Quicktime - New Video Recording using Canon HV30 - Codec?

I'm using Quicktime Pro 7.4.1 with a Canon HV30 connected via firewire. In Quicktime preferences pane, the HV30 is the video source with "Device Native" as the Quality setting. Though, I can't see a preview in the Quicktime window while recording, it does appear to record footage. When I stop the recording, it says that I don't have the codec to view the footage and sends me to the Quicktime plug-in page on this site, but I have no idea what I need.
Considering some of the codecs (if not all of them) cost money, I'd rather not buy something that won't fix my problem. Anyone have any ideas?
EDIT: Oh yeah, the camera is set to HDV 1080i60 video standard. When I switch the camera to SDV, the Quicktime preview returns and everything works as expected.

I am using Quicktime Pro on an iMac running Mac OS X 10.6.5. Quicktime will work with iSight but not with my PS3 eye (usb webcam). I am able to choose the PS3 eye from Quicktime preferences and the video screen will show up with video from the PS3 eye (so I know that Quicktime recognizes the cam). But the error dialogue box appears immediately.
Other information - I am using macam.component for Quicktime and the PS3 eye works perfectly with Macam.

Has anyone received this error before?
I have not, but I do not use PS3 eye. If it is a "UVC" (usb video class) device, it should work with any Mac running Mac OS X 10.4.9 or later _without additional software drivers_. Some unnecessary drivers can conflict with your Mac's software.
If desired, you can remove the file macam.component from /Library/QuickTime and restart Mac to see if the PS3 eye can work with QuickTime without the additional driver.

  • Premiere Elements 10 - can't play back imported HD video (from Canon HV30) in Quicktime or FCP

After playing around with the trial version, I eagerly purchased Photoshop Elements 10 Premiere for its ability to edit video from my Sony Cybershot camera (Final Cut Pro would not do this) and for its ability to import video from my Canon HV30 HD camcorder (Final Cut Pro is really fussy on this).
Also liked the option of importing without breaking in to individual scenes.  FCP and iMovie won't do this.
So, after the first import of a tape, I discover that the imported file will NOT play via Quicktime, and when I imported that file into Final Cut Pro, I got the eternal circle icon which lead to a crash.

  • Canon HV30 Returns Video Format provided by capture device is not supported by this application

I am trying to stream our church services using Flash Media Live Encoder 3 using firewire and a Canon HV30 Camera.
I am not understanding how to use my firewire based high def Canon HV30 Camera as the video source device for FLME 3 ? When I hook everything up I get the error "Video Format provided by capture device is not supported by this application". The spec sheet says the HV10 should work.
Is there a work around for this problem.
    In Him,
    JMb <><

The error is coming because the camera might be giving HDV format, which is mpeg-2 encoded. FMLE needs raw format to work with. Please configure the camera to give DV out to work with FMLE.

  • How do I print to video  HD footage captured from HD Canon HD20?

So far I've not seen any solutions on the discussion threads for those of us who are unsuccessful in printing to video via firewire back to our HD cameras for archive or display on a HD display via HDMI.
I have combed the posts in several places for settings, and believe mine are correct. FCP
seems happy to export. My camera is obviously not recognized so that it can record.
This seems to be a serious, major, and wide-spread flow in FCP's current work flow, or
am I "unclear" on the concept? Thanks in advance! Apple folks... are you there??

Well, I just BOUGHT this camera yesterday (HV20) and...well...I haven't printed back to tape yet. Don't think I plan to. I'll be making DVDs and outputting to higher end HD formats...like DVCPRO HD or...or...well, that's probably about it.
I don't know what the issue people have with Canon is. I have a GL-1...never had an issue shooting and capturing with it. I pulled the HV20 out of the box, switched it to 24f mode, shutter to 48. Shot for 10 min, captured it without an issue (HDV 1080i60 Firewire Basic) and even captured ONE clip...the camera was started and stopped a dozen times.
But, I haven't printed to tape. I just wanted to say that I have had a positive experience with the camera.

  • Premiere Elements 13 & Canon HV30 - Video Import/Capture

I CAN connect my Canon DV30 to MS Movie Maker via firewire with no problems at all.
I've just bought Premiere Elements 13 but I CANNOT get it to recognise the camera, and cannot import any video :-(
Does anybody have any experience of using Premiere Elements and a Canon HV30?
    I need help PLEASE!
    Thx

Just found out DV capture has been removed from v13!
The workaround, as per the link (Adobe Premiere Elements 11 * Capture video), would then not play any sound - which I believe is another problem of v13 (No  sound on playback  with Premiere  13)
That's it for me.  The software is going back to Amazon.
Premiere Elements 13 is not going to work for my DV capture!!!!!

  • Importing footage from my canon hv30 video looks slow why?

Footage done in canon hv30 HD looks a bit slow audio is ok. I try putting case in none and it looks just a bit better. somebody?

This camera doesn't actually shoot 24fps. It shoots 24 over 60.
"You can change the camcorder's frame capture rate to 24p (recorded at 60i), which provides the appearance of the same frame rate as movie film." (From the Canon web site)
This means the tape is actually recording 29.97 with pulldown added to make up the difference.
Bottom line: the media is 29.97, what iMovie calls 30.

  • Print to Video, Playback Output Video for 1080i60 Codec?

Could someone who is using Final Cut Express 4.0 please check the characteristics under Easy Setup / HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60, as to whether FCE 4.0 provides a “Playback Output Video” capability.
In FCE 3.5, the pull down menu: Final Cut Express HD / Easy Setup / HDV-Apple Intermediate Codec 1080i60, “Playback Output Video” is not available, ie “None”.
I have been using the “Print to Video” command within Final Cut Express 3.5 to export my edited video (NTSC 720x480) back onto my Sony mini DV TRV70 camcorder for archival purposes. This is usually something I do after burning discs using iDVD.
I’m about to purchase a Canon HV30 hi-def camcorder, and in the same way, would like to archive my hi def edited videos, ......that is, after burning some DVD’s, I want to archive the entire 1080i60 version back onto tape using the Print to Video command and Rec Cntrl function of the camcorder. However, the “Playback Output Video” feature of FCE 3.5 for 1080i60 seems to be “None”.
Appreciate any info as to whether FCE 4.0 has this feature, or are there any other ideas out there that would accomplish the same objective.
    Thanks in advance,
    BoBo

    Hi Michel (Bonjour)
Thanks again for responding, and providing a number of good references for Blu Ray burning and burners.
I recently “captured” a short Hi Def, 2 minute bird feeder video from my Canon HV30 with Final Cut Express HD 3.5, and placed the imported segment on the Time Line viewer. All of this with FCE set in the 1080i60 AIC codec.
With no editing nor transitions nor effects, I then did a “Print to Video” of this Time Line segment, and recorded it back onto the Canon, positioning it on the tape directly following the original recording.
I then rewound the mini DV tape, and played back the two videos from the Canon into my high definition Samsung via HDMI. I couldn’t tell the difference between the two video samples, …….the original recording compared with the copy that was captured by FCE and re-recorded back onto tape.
I then took this same Time Line segment, exported to a QuickTime self contained movie (sequence), and then dragged that QT sequence into iDVD (Version 7.0.3) widescreen theme pane. It took about 30 minutes to process and burn that same short ( ~2 min) segment to a DVD using my iMac 2.1Ghz G5 w/ standard Super Drive.
I then played back that DVD disc on my HD Samsung through a standard DVD Player (no up converting capability) and could see a good rendition of the video sample, but fuzzy in spots especially during slow panning, …..a good video but NOT certainly the Hi Definition quality that I saw during playback from the Canon mini DV tape playback.
A question for you experts……is the degradation seen during DVD playback caused by the iDVD software not producing a 1060i Hi Def rendition, ….or is the DVD ok and the fact that I did not have an unconverting or Blu Ray DVD player the reason for the lack of non hi-def quality from the DVD?
Michel, …..I have not as yet purchased Toast 10 with the HD plugin. Would you expect that I would see an improved version, ….a nearly Hi Def rendition if I had used Toast 10 instead of iDVD? Or do I have to go the distance!…….that is, Toast 10, a Blu Ray burner, and Blu Ray Player as well!…..to see a version of my 2 minute sample as good as what my Canon HV30 playback is showing me?
    Once again, Thanks in advance

  • Questions - Canon HV30/HV20 users

After reading several reviews I’m thinking of purchasing a Canon HV30 camcorder to do some HD recording. Yet I am proceeding with caution - HD files are huge and I’m wondering in a generally way how my - intel 24” 2.15 GHz - RAM at 3gig iMac will perform? Will it perform real time video captures etc. with this tape based camera? I am a patient sort of person and don’t mind waiting for things to process but is it even reasonable to use this setup for HD.
    2nd Question --
    – I use iMovie 6 and Final Cut Express 3.5. I have several large capacity FW 800 external drives connected to the iMac I would like to use with this camcorder.
However there's always unexpected things like I have read the Canon HV30 uses FW400 port and does not like any other FW devices connected when capturing video to the computer – So does that include the FW800 port as well?
Perhaps a few of you have some experience with the HV30 or HV20 - I’d like to hear your thoughts on what to expect - would it be a good choice. What are your brags and nags about your HV30?
I know that's subjective but I'm looking for good video quality - ease of editing and having the ability to save the edited movie back to tape. Latter when bluray media and burners get more reasonable I may burn the edited movies to disk.
    Thanks for any thoughts,
    Steve

    Hi Ron,
Sorry your having problems - If you live near an Apple store or a friend that has latter hardware/software on their Mac try the HV30 at least you wold know if somethings wrong with the cameras FW port or not. Perhaps you can get the camera exchanged. I have head from quite a number of folks their HV30 work fine with Macs, iMovie an FCE.
I went ahead and purchased the HV30 it should arrive early this coming week -
One thing - As I mentioned before in other posts to this board I do have a Canon gl2 and it is very touchy about any other FW devices connected most times the computer will not even recognize the camera. Try the HV30 as the only device on the FW port. I'm using iMovie 6.0.4 and FCE 3.5 I'll post how things go - you have got me a little worried though.
My 2 cents - best wishes,
    Steve

  • Project won't print to video

    Hi,
I have FCE2. I'm trying to print my project to video. I've used both Sony and Canon Mini DV camcorders. When I hit "Ok to start recording media onto deck", the project plays back ontop of a black screen on my computer and my camera is rolling, it says "rec", there is timecode moving, but when I play it back, nothing is there. It does not record anything.
When I do the same thing in iMovie, it DOES work! I can see what I'm recording in the camcorder and it DOES print to video and it DOES playback after I'm done.
What am I doing wrong in FCE2?
    Thanks,
    Squibb

Please give full specs for your system, computer, drives, devices, how everything's connected, settings on the camera in record mode, settings in FCE. Trash your preferences, reboot, connect everything correctly, launch the application. Does it see the camera? If not, do not proceed to PTT.

  • Premiere Elements 11 no longer recognizes Canon HV30

Any help or suggestions would be appreciated to my problem.  I have been using PE 11 to download HD camcorder footage from my Canon HV30 camcorder to hard drive.  I've gone through about 15 tapes and all was going well.  Two days ago I went to download the next tape and PE no longer recognizes the Canon.
My setup:  Windows 7.  Canon HV30 connected to PC using Firewire cable.  Drivers updated, etc.  The cable appears fine (if I force PE to switch to "standard definition camcorder" the Canon appears as "Microsoft Camcorder" and PE will control the camcorder).  I have tried plugging/unplugging cable at various times; starting PE with and without camera plugged in; uninstalled and reinstalled drivers for the firewire card.  I am now at my wit's end.
The only change between when I last downloaded footage on Sunday and Wednesday was a MS Windows update and Quicktime update.  So I have uninstalled Quicktime.  Went through the same tests: start with/without Canon turned on; reboot, etc.  Nothing works and I'm at a loss.  Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

First thing, quickly reinstall the latest verison of  QuickTime or use the version that was just updated. QuickTime is a requirement.
If you want the 7.7.4 prior version, please try the following link. But, for now I would go with the latest version of QuickTime 7.7.5.
    http://www.oldapps.com/quicktime_player.php
Download and install HDVSplit and do a capture firewire with it. That will give you split clips MPEG2.m2t to put on your Timeline.
Here we are using it as a troubleshooting tool. If it works, it may become your permanent tool.
Did you remove the Windows Update?
In Edit Menu/Preferences/Scratch Disks, where do you have the Captured Video and Captured Audio fills directed? How much free hard drive space is at that location?
Please review and let us know if any of the above had any impact on your situation.
    Thanks.

  • Print to Video not working!!

I'm using Final Cut Express 2.0.3. and I'm having a helluva time!
Right now, I'm trying to export my movie I made back onto a miniDV tape .... using the "PRINT TO VIDEO" option under the FILE heading. It starts to play on the computer, I have my Canon video camera hooked up via FireWire, the camera starts to record, but I don't get any image on the camera - no image or audio. Is there some option I'm missing???
    Thanks!

Perhaps also make sure that your camera is on "VTR" or playback mode, instead of record mode when you actually shoot images from the camera. Or "Refresh" video devices; hope this helps a bit.

  • Print to Video HDV

Hello All. So about 6 mos ago I successfully printed video back to my XHA1, since then I haven't been able to connect my XHA1 to FCP at all. I have no problem getting the HV20 to mount. I have tried pretty much every possible set-up and still no luck with the A1. I am trying to print to video and can get neither camera to operate correctly. I have searched the boards and nothing seems to work. LIke I said I have tried so many different configurations w/o success. Does anyone have a tried and true way to print HDV 24F footage back to either a Canon A1 or HV20. Your help would be very appreciated. Thank you.
    Jeremy

Well I stumbled on the answer to my problem, maybe someone else might learn from my mistake. When creating my storyline, I created the sequence with DV settings. All the resulting work was then in DV and it apparently will not convert to HDV without significant loss. My solution was to Easy Setup with HD and AIC 1080i60 then create the new sequence. I imported all my clips into the new sequence timeline. When I go to print to file now, the camera automatically starts to record with transcoding to HDV appearing while the video is copying back to the Tape. Just a newbie mistake but maybe someone else wont make the same mistake.

  • Hdv print to video not working

    Hi,
I am trying to print to video an HDV sequence, at HDV quality but neither my Macbook Pro nor G5 will see my Sony HVR10P or Canon XHA1. It is true that Final Cut Supports output to HDV decks using Print to Video yes? I can see the HDV Firewire 1440 setting in the External Video menu but it is greyed out.
On both the Camera and Deck I've tried all the different settings to get an HDV input signal, but to no avail. I'm also not getting a DV signal to tape using print to video. I can get the still image of the current frame though.
From what I've read this is supposed to be possible... does anyone have any suggestions? Going a bit nuts here after a couple of days,
    thanks,
    sam

Finally I've cracked it. There are a host of alternative HDV firewire setting in the Audio Video Settings. I was using the Sony HDV firewire setting which it defaulted to after recognising the Sony HDR10P deck. After trying HDV Firewire Basic and NDF to Print to Video there was no warning window "incompatible device" or "this sequence is not copmpatible with HDV Print to Video". It played through with a 2 second delay. However it wasn't stable - a large glitch at the beginning of the recording and no audio came through. Then tweaked to HDV Firewire 25fps Basic and it kept coming up with "run out of memory" just after conforming. It seems it IS possible but my systems are having teething problems and I should upgrade to FCP 6 - hopefully memory issues will be resolved there.
    Thanks..
    sam
