Print to Video - No Video, but Have Audio

I have a Sony DSR-45A Deck and having issues.
I'm able to log and capture fine and able to print to video. However, when I go to print to video, it starts recording and I get the audio, but no video signal. I don't even have signal when I turn the external video on.
I used it earlier this week and was working fine. It has happened before and I've just restarted and it was fine. Any ideas? The video I printed to Video this week doesn't work, so know it isn't a frame rate issues.
Thanks for any help or suggestions. I've been reading all morning and can't find any one with this problem.
Kris

If you're getting audio but no video, make sure the deck is set to accept the proper video format (DV-CAM?) in.
Also, you may have to reset things by shutting everything down, plugging your firewire cable in first, then turning on the deck, and then starting up the mac and launching fcp.

My purpose for copying to a CD or DVD is so that I can make copies and send to friends and relatives. What is the best way to get these files on a CD/DVD with the right codecs?
The easiest thing to do is to simply tell your friends and relatives to copy the files to their local hard drive before playing them. Your basic problem is that data discs have a limited real time transfer rate. Since you say VLC plays the files fine, I might suspect its player is likely buffering the data while the QT 7 Player is not.
Data discs made for playback directly from the CD or DVD are normally encoded using MPEG-4/AVC (H.264) video with AAC audio. This is a modern codec which has specific settings to re-package the data (i.e., must be encoded using the multipass option and then select the "optimize for CD/DVD" option).

    1. I ran software update and am up to date. Does this mean that my yet to be activated Boot Camp ap is also up to date?
There are 4 confusing pages of updates listed at Apples website for Boot Camp. I am having a hard time understanding what I need and don't need. For example, what version of Boot Camp do I have? I have Boot Camp Assistant version 3.0.4. Does this mean I have Boot Camp ver 3?
You have Mac OS X Snow Leopard, so you are going to use Boot Camp 3 on Windows. After installing Windows 7 on your MacBook, insert the Snow Leopard DVD and install the Boot Camp drivers from here. Then, as the Boot Camp drivers that your Snow Leopard disc contain are outdated, open Apple Software Update on Windows to install the most recent Boot Camp drivers.

    2. The printed Boot Camp instructions do not explain the process of using downloaded Windows drivers; the instuctions only refer to drivers on the original disks. I have the original install disks from around mid 2010 but I am sure many things have been updated by now. Wouldn't the best idea be to download and install? But the instructions only cover using the original disks. How do I use downloaded drivers?
On Snow Leopard, you can only download the Boot Camp drivers for the Late 2010 MacBook Air. On Lion and Mountain Lion, you have to download the Boot Camp drivers for all the computers. If you try to download the Boot Camp drivers on Snow Leopard with your computer, you will get a message telling that there aren't any drivers to download for your MacBook Pro

  • How can I get netflix streaming audio, the video is fine but the audio coming through is from the TV(dish)

how can I get netflix streaming audio, the video is fine but the audio coming through is from the TV(dish)

It's exactly as I stated. Whenever I try to drag these kinds of loops (ESX24 / software instrument loops? the ones marked in green with the white music note next to them) from the loop browser into the timeline a message comes up saying Audio Not Found for that loop.  And a new track is created automatically when loops are dragged into the timeline, so I'm not creating some other random / synth instrument track so I'm not sure  what the deal is... But perhaps I'll try creating a software instrument track first and then drag the loop into that track and see what happens - maybe there's something with the default settings that automatically creates audio tracks whenever loops are imported?

  • Just want to replace some video with photos, but LEAVE AUDIO THERE. No way?

Is there no simple way to just replace some video with other video or photos, but not affect audio? I have an interview, and they're talking about places, and I want to put in photos of the places. Pretty basic stuff.
    Thanks for whatever help...

OK, yeah, CUTAWAY. But, I have the audio "purpled". Should it be? And my photo is sitting ABOVE the place where I want it. How do I get it to go down where it's supposed to? I really need a step-by-step here. I see how to manage the duration of the cutaway, but I don't see how to actually get it INTO the track, and how to "un-purple" the audio track.
    Thank you!

  • Can capture video...but no audio

sorry if this is a repeat question...new to iMac and Final Cut Express 4. I am trying to capture a video that was recorded with audio. Connected DV camcorder to iMac via firewire - no problem. capture video - no problem. audio? no audio. have looked through the manual - can't seem to find the answer anywhere. is a mid year (07) iMac - aluminum.

the problem has been solved...although i am not sure how. we were expecting to hear the audio AS it was capturing...and the other day when we tried it, we didn't have audio when we played back what we had captured. tonight, unfortunately, we didn't ever actually try playing back...until now so, i'm not sure at what point in our troubleshooting we actually corrected the problem - but it's corrected....thanks for your help!

  • Video coming in but no audio?

I'm trying to get some media that was shot on a Sony DCR-SR100 (hard drive camcorder) to work in FCP. Video comes through fine but no audio. Client brought it in on an external hard drive and they are MPG files. They play okay in Windows Media Player (audio works) but after bringing into FCP there is no audio - what gives?
Any ideas? Important project with deadline.

Oh I had just this problem - the trick was getting exactly the right settings. I still have some weird square pixel issue: when I use 720x576 it needs no rendering, but is less wide than my PAL DV sequence, but when I use 768x576 it fits exactly but needs rendering (however it should play - it's one of the lowest rendering levels if you get me, not orange or red at least on my system).
    My settings for PAL are:
Compression: Apple DV - PAL (Options: Interlaced, Aspect Ratio 4:3)
    Sound: Uncompressed 48khz
    Frame Rate: 25
    Frame Size: 720 x 576
    Interlaced Scaling - selected
Field Dominance - Lower Field First
    Rotation - No
    Zoom - 100%
    X/Y - 1
    Cropping - 0
This for me needs no rendering in FCP, however as mentioned it is too narrow so I then have to stretch the shot which requires rendering. If anyone has advice to fix this, I would be very grateful.

  • Embedding another sequence's video...but not audio

I want to take the video from one sequence of my film (call it "sequence A") and place it in another sequence (call it "sequence B"). I don't want the audio from sequence A in B...just the video.
I would have thought that if I made sure that the "v1" source and destination on the "B" timeline were hooked up but the "a1" and "a2" weren't, that I could just drag sequence A onto the sequence B timeline and I'd be fine. But it doesn't work: FCPro always wants to bring in the audio from sequence A, despite the fact that I haven't set any "targets" for the audio.
Is there a way to do this? Thanks.

Good of you to ask, because my terminology is a little messed up. By "patched," what I meant was that my sequences had multiple audio outputs (one dual mono channel and two stereo channels, for a total of six different audio tracks). And indeed, that was the source of my problem. When I tried to drag a sequence directly from the browser onto the timeline, those other four audio tracks were what was appearing. (The a1 and a2 tracks--because they were "unpatched"--weren't appearing, which is the correct behavior.)
To fix my problem, I loaded the clip from the browser into the viewer first (by dragging...I had been confused because I had expected to be able to right-click on browser sequences and say "open in viewer"...but that menu option doesn't exist even though it's something you'd very much want to do). Once my sequence was in the viewer all of the patch "lozenges" appeared (in fact, far too many appeared, but that wasn't a problem), then I could successfully unpatch a3 through a6 and bring in my video without any audio.
    Thanks for everyone's help.

  • Imported video from DVD but no Audio

I burned a DVD with my DVD recorder and imported it to a media file and then dragged the file into FCE2. The video plays in the viewer, but no audio. The audio plays in QuickTime Player. I've trashed my preferences and restarted my G4 computer--all to no avail!

And here's a link to MPEG Streamclip on Version Tracker.

  • I can send video to IDVD but not audio...

I shot it on my video camera, imported with Imovie, sent it to garageband to add chapters (markers) and then sent it to IDVD for burning. Am I needing to check some audio button or something? The dvd burns fine but no audio.
    Thanks.

Xvid/Divx are output files, not meant to be edited (variations of the MPEG4 codec, often used for Internet streaming video) so, they mostly do NOT edit well (if at all) in any flavor of Premiere

  • I would like to see my home videos in HD - but have not been sucessful

OK I'll start off by saying, I think I'm fairly intelligent but after going thru about 50 dvds, maybe not so much. If anyone can give me an idiot guide (step by step) I would really appreciate it. My goal is to get small movie clips on my DVD so I can play them on my Sony or samsung blu ray player
    I'm using the following:
    - canon HF100 camcorder that saves file in avchd.
    - imovie 08 and/or imove hd.
    - toast 9.0.4
    - sony blu ray (s350) and also have a samsung 1500 blue ray
I've tired to import avchd into imovie hd from my camcorder, but found i cannot do so - so I import into imovie 08 using the best quality, then open the files in imovie hd and edit, etc. (from what I read imovie hd is 'better' than 08 - still trying to get use to it). I'm assuming I don't really have to do anything else here - just want to make sure I'm importing at best quality.
After I edit the video, i've exported using quicktime (I only have the reader version 7.5.5) in both imovie hd & 08, the quality seems poor (on the mac - just does not look like hd). I've burned quick time file to dvd using toast, but neither blu ray player is able to read the disk (know it was a long shot). I've played around with a bunch of different settings in imovie 08, but really don't know what I'm doing and none of the disks looked very good. I've not gotten into any of the advance settings in imovie hd yet.
I've also copied the avchd files (disk image of my canon card) to dvd and neither player can play the raw files (though they apparently play avchd format)
I've successfully burned things using idvd - but it is not hd.
    Anyone have any suggestions?

Plus you will need to buy a Blu ray DVD burner.
There have been discussions about quality issues with iMovie 08 because it uses single field processing to create the video images. Basically, this removes half of the lines of resolution from your original footage. This has to create some loss of quality. iMovie HD6, on the other hand, does not do this, keeping both fields intact.
iMovie 08 was really created to appeal to You Tubers and other web video users, where high quality is less of an issue. iMovie HD6 and previous versions were created to appeal to the budding moviemaker who wants a pro style editing platform with great quality, but ease of use, as compared to Final Cut programmes. That's also why iMovie HD6 was designed to work solely with miniDV tape cams, in either SD or HD format. DV Stream is a lossless format that produces superior results to any of the other high compression formats, such as AVCHD.
So, you need to spend more money to get HD DVDs, but your quality will suffer using iMovie 08, which your camcorder forces you to do. Perhaps some consideration of a suitable cam to begin with will be of help.

  • Can import videos to itunes but have no sound when on ipod

I have been at my wit's end trying to get my new ipod to work. I have some videos I have been trying to put on my ipod. I can import them into itunes fine, they play perfectly, but then when I convert them to ipod format, using itunes, they come out without any sound. It is saving them as .m4v, i have tried playing them in itunes and quicktime but neither of them play the sound.

Dont worry, I found a handy little tool that I think anyone who has any problems with ipod video should try. Its in Japanese, but just set the language to english, its pretty obvious. http://www.videohelp.com/tools?tool=3GP_Converter
