Print to video not functioning - help?

Trying to output a finished vid to my Panasonic AG-DVC30. Print to Vid command activates the camera, and it records... but the screen remains blue, and nothing is recorded on the dv tape. A poster named Hotzeug posted the same problem with his Canon, and mentioned later in the same thread that he found his answer in another post, but no link to that post... so I'm still lost.
I hope someone can lead me to the same answer !

The problem is most likely the Canon cameras inability to communicate with a second device on the same FireWire bus. What I'd suggest is exporting a QuickTime Movie to the desktop. Shut down the computer and removed the external drive. Start the computer, trash your preferences and launch FCE. Does it recognize the camera? If yes, import the QT Movie file and try print to video.

I'm using Final Cut Express 2.0.3. and I'm having a helluva time!
Right now, I'm trying to export my movie I made back onto a miniDV tape .... using the "PRINT TO VIDEO" option under the FILE heading. It starts to play on the computer, I have my Canon video camera hooked up via FireWire, the camera starts to record, but I don't get any image on the camera - no image or audio. Is there some option I'm missing???

Perhaps also make sure that your camera is on "VTR" or playback mode, instead of record mode when you actually shoot images from the camera. Or "Refresh" video devices; hope this helps a bit.

Print to Video - not working as expected

I'm trying to the Print to Video command to record my project on DV tape.
I'm using firewire for computer to camera connection. My MAC firewire port is configured for my camera model - SONY DRV-TRV-900.
My Sequence and Capture presets are the same: DV NTSC 48kHz. (My Capture preset summary shows that it is for DRV-TRV-900).
My Device Control preset is: Firewire NTSC.
Video Playback is: Apple Firewire NTSC (720x480).
Audio Playback is: Firewire DV.
When I select -Print to Video- my camera does go from STANDBY to REC and the timecode starts rolling. But when the image appears on my computer monitor it is not being recorded onto the DV tape.
In troubleshooting I did put my camera into VTR and then I was able to play the video from my project out to the camera LCD screen.
Appreciate any replies.

Thanks for this info. I had tried Edit to Tape before and had some degree of Device Control but the actual video was not being recorded to tape although the camera indicated it was recoding.
This is pretty much the same situation if I use Print to Video.
IN and OUT points are marked... and with both PTV and ETT I've configured to try both of the settings to record from - In to OUT- and -Entire Media-.
Note that in the FCP 5 manual it says "FCP cannot record to your camcorder when it is set to CAMERA Mode" and "Make sure your video equipment is connected to your computer, turned on and set to VCR, sometimes labeled as VTR."
So I've tried this setup on my camera and also have tried the CAMERA mode. Whether the camera is set to CAMERA mode or VTR the problem is the same...no video being recorded to the DV tape.
Is my explanation here clear?

Hdv print to video not working

Hi,
I am trying to print to video an HDV sequence, at HDV quality but neither my Macbook Pro nor G5 will see my Sony HVR10P or Canon XHA1. It is true that Final Cut Supports output to HDV decks using Print to Video yes? I can see the HDV Firewire 1440 setting in the External Video menu but it is greyed out.
On both the Camera and Deck I've tried all the different settings to get an HDV input signal, but to no avail. I'm also not getting a DV signal to tape using print to video. I can get the still image of the current frame though.
From what I've read this is supposed to be possible... does anyone have any suggestions? Going a bit nuts here after a couple of days,

Finally I've cracked it. There are a host of alternative HDV firewire setting in the Audio Video Settings. I was using the Sony HDV firewire setting which it defaulted to after recognising the Sony HDR10P deck. After trying HDV Firewire Basic and NDF to Print to Video there was no warning window "incompatible device" or "this sequence is not copmpatible with HDV Print to Video". It played through with a 2 second delay. However it wasn't stable - a large glitch at the beginning of the recording and no audio came through. Then tweaked to HDV Firewire 25fps Basic and it kept coming up with "run out of memory" just after conforming. It seems it IS possible but my systems are having teething problems and I should upgrade to FCP 6 - hopefully memory issues will be resolved there.

HDV Print to Video not showing metadata

I'm running Final Cut Studio 2 and a Canon HV20 camcorder. I'm trying to consolidate footage from one tape to a new tape using "Print to Video" but the metadata such as date and time doesn't transfer. It works perfectly when I tested with DV format (consolidating 1 DV to another) but HDV only transfers video and audio with no metadata, and I'm guessing timecode too but I'm not sure. The original tape shows metadata.
I'ved tried with different settings. Captured using HDV Firewire, HDV Firewire Basic, HDV Firewire Basic NDF, AIC and print to video using HDV (1440 x 1080) 60i. They all record to tape fine but no metadata. I've even tried capturing and export to tape using iMovie with the same results (only video and audio with no metadata/timecode). What am I doing wrong?

Nope, I'm not talking about photo EXIF metadata, I'm talking about actual video. If I play DV or HDV tapes on my camcorder the date and time of the recording displays in the lower right hand corner of the LCD screen and the time even changes based upon when it was recorded. I've owned 3 DV camcorders and used friend's and they all do this.
When recording DV or HDV the date and time is registered somewhere. Even the new iMovie '08 will name the clips you import by date and time shot for DV or HDV (ex. clip-2003-02-09 13;57;34.dv).
Again, I can import any DV tape (video) now, export it to another tape, play it and the date and time of when it was recorded is retained, even if I rearrange it's order in iMovie or FCP. This is something I've done for years. I just can't accomplish it with HDV. I'm sure it can be done I just need to see what I'm doing wrong in the chain.
Please don't let my use of the word metadata confuse you that I think it's photo EXIF metadata. I used the word metadata because it just means "a set of data that describes and gives information about other data."

I can't use the sticky note function-Help!

I have version 9 and I am not able to makes sticky notes in reviewing the work that is sent to me. I had version 5 where all worked well and recently got a new hard drive and installed Adobe Reader 9. I read that the document has to have permission to make comments and when I go to preferences it says that this document does not have permission....but when I call the person who sent it(graphic artist who works in Quark) -she said that nothing has changed and that it does have permission. Help! What do I do to be able to use the sticky note function again.

I have noticed a similar problem at my friends computer. The small company he works for has a regular Apple Quad tower running Version Cue 3 w/ Leopard. The system has Adobe Acrobat 9 Professional installed. When he logs in and creates a PDF review, he is able to see the review window open up in Safari with the commenting features. Granted, since he has Adobe 9 Pro, he doesn't need to "Enable the Commenting" feature.
So we tested on his lap top that just had the Adobe Reader 9 (AR9) recently installed on a fresh copy of Tiger 10.4.11. He got his invite email and went to the server and was able to do all the functions except for one: when he went to check out the review and clicked to open the PDF, it came up with an JavaScript error indicating that the: This Document is Available for Review in Acrobat Reader. You must use Adobe Acrobat .. blah blah
So I did the next obvious step and went to AR9 and and "Enabled the Commenting". Saved it as a different document name and re imported it into the Version Cue through Bridge. I went back in and tried to initiate a new review with the updated file. SAME ERROR POPPED UP. Now, I was able to directly open the PDF document that I exported from AR9 on my friend's lap top (solo Reader) and the document loaded successfully.
The users all have the proper permissions. It works on a system with Acrobat but not with just the Reader installed. Any ideas out there?

No audio after I Print to Video...help!

After I have printed to video there is no audio attached to my edited sequences, even though during playback in the timeline there is obviously audio. When I print to video how do I make sure the audio goes along with it?

Monitor audio from the deck you are outputting to. Make SURE audio is being sent to the deck...if via firewire, make sure in the Audio/Video settings you have audio out set to firewire.

Shortkey apple p (print page) does not function anymore

All of the sudden the print page short-key (apple -P) stopped functioning. only a small beep is heard.
in keyboard setting it is not found, if added is still only gives the small beep.
even re-installing leopard does not help.
it is very annoying to alwals have to go to archive window to print
how knows how to solve this.

I would suggest resetting PRAM
It might help - it might not - but it is a start:
■ Shut down your computer. Turn the computer back on and immediately hold down Command-Option-P-R, continuing to press until you hear the startup sound for the second time. This resets the computer’s parameter random-access memory (PRAM).
IMPORTANT: Resetting PRAM may change some system settings and preferences. Use System Preferences to restore your settings.
Reinstalling is almost never a solution for these things.

IChat 4.0.2 on Leopard Video not working HELP!

Hi, I've been following many of the threads on solutions of how to fix the video conferencing feature. However, I've tried doing all of those things listed including allowing iChat to send things outbound and accept inbound data through the firewall, checking Quicktime streaming and iChat bandwith. It has not work for me.
Everytime I try to video conference(VC), both when I try to start the VC and when I accept a VC, I keep getting the 'Error -8'. I am at a loss of what I should do and I have tried everything to fix the problem. Help please! Thanks.

Can you tells what you have currently set in IChat as the Login port, the Mac Firewall, The Mac System Preferences > Sharing items and the modem and or router ?

Flash Video Not Viewing-HELP!

I have followed all of the tutorials and references and I
still cannot view my flash video from a regular server. The MIME
settings have been changed and I have even tried posting to another
server that has the MIME settings in order. I am not doing anything
out of the ordinary when posting to the web server, in fact I post
the entire folder and all of its content.
Is there another reference out there that I can be directed
to finally resolve this issue? I've the devnet tutorials and
Dreamweaver 8 tutorials on how to insert flash video into a web
page. I just don't get it the video will play from my hard drive
but not the server.

I seem to be in this bucket as well. Did the MIME thing too.
I see the video no matter where I put it, but no other users can
get the video., they get a white page. Also checked the path to
make sure it is local to the web server and not to my harddrive.
EDIT: Well got mine to work. I put the flv on the webserver
first, then when importing to stage, chose progressive download and
for video source used a url address to the server where the video
is and will reside, then published and it worked. very odd?

Part of my keyboard is not functioning, help!

I have a 2nd gen ipod touch on 3.1.3 that i just bought refurbished by Apple, and my keyboard is not working right anymore. It was working fine earlier today, but now I can't use all of it, When i push on anything on the bottom row of letters it selects whatever is below that, this makes the keyboard kinda useless because I can't use the caps key, z, x, c, v, b, n, m, or backspace... Please help!

I installed the 2.0 update the day it came out and experienced no problems except for the crashing of applications. Since it was upodated my 1st gen. iPhone has been completely fine until this morning. upon waking up I discovered that the slide to unlock tab won't respond. Also when i pressed the home button twice and the rewind play and fast forward buttons came up, none of them would respond either. I have reset the iPhone twice now without any luck. I have had this iPhone for about 6 months+ wihtout having any problems such as this. If anyone has any idea as to how to fix this please help!

I've tried both Find and Advanced Search.

Print to Video Error msg: audio and vide devices may not match

When I attempt to print to video (using a Sony DV deck that has werved me well for years) I receive the message:
"The selected audio and video devices may not match:
-Apple FireWire NTSC (720 X 480)
Please verify that the audio and video outputs are externally routed to the intended device(s).
Do you want to proceed?"
I tried proceeding, and the video images output to the tape but without a sound track.
What to do? I must deliver a tape to my client!
I recently did a software update to 10.4.6. Could that be part of the problem?
Of did some setting change somewhere without my knowing it, and I need to reset it, if so what?

Thank you for this. I did check the audio playback settings and it was NOT set to audio follows video. I then CHANGED it as you have kindly instructed. The audio video settings box you mention was NOT checked, so I didn't need to do anything there.
I then tried o launch Print to Video (not Edit to Tape) and sadly, the same error message occurred. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
I am running FCP 4.5, recently upgraded to OS 10.4.6

Have you been monitoring externally this whole time?
If you have, and you've been getting external audio
and video, then this is probably a case of a
setting being off somewhere.
First, check your View > Audio Playback
setting. It should be set to Audio follows
Video.
Second, press Option-Command-Q to bring up the
Audio/Video Settings dialog. Click on the right-most
tab (A/V Devices) then confirm that the box for 'Use
Different output for Edit To Tape/Print To Video' is
not checked.
And please confirm that you're doing a Print to Video
and not an Edit To Tape. I ask because the only time
that I can remember getting this message is when I've
tried to do an Edit To Tape and didn't drag the
correct sequence from the browser (if I remember
correctly, I accidently dragged a sequence that was
also open in timeline).
