Print to Video Start Stop recording

Hello
Ok is their any way to have FCP mark a Start Stop after each clip when recording a timeline with many clips. So that when recaptured it imports each clip in the Timeline as an individual clip.
Perhaps their is another software for this.
I have been reading the Manual back and fourth cant find out how to add start stop points. I have tried markers transitions blank space. Nothing wants to work.

Thank you for your help.
Your suggestion got me to come up with a few other things which led me to what I am going to do.
I still am going to try the Adobe thing I'll let you know how that goes.
I will have a directory with markers one for each tape on a USB stick.
A black slug around 2 frames in between each clip and enough black to start off and to end with as to keep every frame.
One thing though.
The reason I was trying to do start and stop was in the event someone else needed to record the Tape but I will probable be the only one to do such.

  • Start / stop recording from other software?

I have a setup where three cameras are supposed to start/stop recording based on user interaction in another software. So, is it possible to trigger a recording to start and stop from another software? If so, how can this be done?

To be honest Im not sure but I dont think so.
If this is a securitycam setup one way to do it without having to have acces to "endles" storage space is to use one of the free services for webcasting like jtv, ustream, veetle, or livestream. I believe all of them have a privace option so you can enter a securitycode so only you can acces the videos. Its not optimal but it gets the job done. I believe some of them will erase videos after a while though if you dont highlight them for saving.

  • Any http/telnet API to activate camera to start/stop recording?

    Hi all,
The function is involved in a IoE(Internet of Everything) project for customer.
    A. The action of 'start to record': will be triggered by event, such as when a sensor has detected some smoke in one room. The platform will activate camera by sending telnet/https command.
    B. The action of 'Stop to record and Save': will be used based on duration: After recording for 5 mins, the camera will stop to record and save video into local disk automatically.
Of course, if VSOM is needed, that will be OK! The question will be: How to start/stop camera recording by VSOM API(http/telnet.)?
    Thanks!

Hi! I've tried and I believe your Finesse Workflow is correct.
The trick is that on AQM you need to have your WFO Workflow Allowing to Record all calls.
Then to exclude all calls from being recorded, you can use the Inclusion List and make * for Exclude all Patterns for being recorded. Then your Finesse Workflow will work:
    1) All calls are sent to AQM, but are not recorded because of the Excluded Pattern = *
    2) Finesse Workflow only has the power to overwrite the Inclusion List configuration
    3) Finesse Workflow cannot overwrite the AQM Workflow configuration.
    Hope it helps,

  • Foot Control to Start/Stop Recording??

Does anyone know if Garageband can be remotely controlled to start and stop recording? Isn't there some sort of midi foot control pedal that allows this? If anyone has any experience with this, I'd love to hear!

The iControl is a control surface that controls many things in GarageBand. However, I don't think it could be used for a remote control for punching in/out.
I agree. We need some kind of remote start/stop "peddle" type controller. I just ordered the PowerMate from Griffin. I don't need 50' of cabling, just about 5' or so. Should be perfect for me. I dunno about setting it on the floor and stomping on it though

  • Flip video starts, stops, doesn't run smoothly

I have a Powerbook G4, 1.67 GHz, 10.4.11 with Quicktime 7.6. I downloaded the video from my Flip Ultra and it barely runs in Quicktime - stutters, starts stops, video lags behind audio. I downloaded the 3ivx and the Perian software and still no luck. I did import the video into iMovie HD and it works fine there. Any ideas?

Is it one of the new Flip Ultra HD cameras that came out last month? Or is a standard definition Flip Ultra? If it's one of the new Flip Ultra HD camera your computer is under powered to playback the video in Quicktime.
For 1280x720 (720p) video at 24-30 frames per second:
    (Macintosh)
1.8 GHz PowerMac G5 or 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo or faster Macintosh computer
The Flip HD cameras uses 3ivx to encode the video to h.264. Not one of the best encoders. I have one of the flip's Mino HD camera and I have to transcode the video into another codec so I can play the video one my computer.

  • Accounting-Start and Accounting-Stop recorded on diffrent RADIUS server.

1.If a NAS configured to have a primary and a backup RADIUS server. To start with all the “Accounting-Start” records will be in the primary RADIUS server. Later on the primary server goes down (Primary server won’t tell the NAS?). When sessions stop, the NAS sends the “Accounting-Stop” to the secondary. I understand the “Start-Stop” record with the same “user name” and “session-id” ideally should be recorded in the same server. If this situation happens what should both the NAS and RADIUS server do?
2.A NAS configured to have a primary and backup RADIUS server. To start with all the “Accounting-Start” records will be in the primary RADIUS server. Later on the administrator decided to change the primary server (as there are problems with the previous primary). sessions stop, the NAS sends the “Accounting-Stop” to the new primary. This ends up the “Accounting-Start” and “Accounting-Stop” with the same “user name” and “session Id” in two RADIUS servers.
To summarize, how to avoid the ”start-stop” pair ends up in different servers ? If it does, is it  an issue for RADIUS application ?
    Cheers,

It is my understanding that the 'NAS_PORT' value in authentication and accounting request are unique and a different value for each authentication request allows it to identify those users that are logged in. However, sending one Acct-Unique-Session-Id at the Start and a different one at stop does sound fishy. However, I could not find any bugs related to this problem. Do let me know if you manage to locate something.

  • Print to Video - not working as expected

I'm trying to the Print to Video command to record my project on DV tape.
I'm using firewire for computer to camera connection. My MAC firewire port is configured for my camera model - SONY DRV-TRV-900.
My Sequence and Capture presets are the same: DV NTSC 48kHz. (My Capture preset summary shows that it is for DRV-TRV-900).
My Device Control preset is: Firewire NTSC.
Video Playback is: Apple Firewire NTSC (720x480).
    Audio Playback is: Firewire DV.
When I select -Print to Video- my camera does go from STANDBY to REC and the timecode starts rolling. But when the image appears on my computer monitor it is not being recorded onto the DV tape.
In troubleshooting I did put my camera into VTR and then I was able to play the video from my project out to the camera LCD screen.
    Appreciate any replies.

Thanks for this info. I had tried Edit to Tape before and had some degree of Device Control but the actual video was not being recorded to tape although the camera indicated it was recoding.
This is pretty much the same situation if I use Print to Video.
IN and OUT points are marked... and with both PTV and ETT I've configured to try both of the settings to record from - In to OUT- and -Entire Media-.
Note that in the FCP 5 manual it says "FCP cannot record to your camcorder when it is set to CAMERA Mode" and "Make sure your video equipment is connected to your computer, turned on and set to VCR, sometimes labeled as VTR."
So I've tried this setup on my camera and also have tried the CAMERA mode. Whether the camera is set to CAMERA mode or VTR the problem is the same...no video being recorded to the DV tape.
    Is my explanation here clear?
    Thanks
    Jim

  • Printing to Video Problems

When I try to print to video, the deck records and I see what I'm trying to record on my computer monitor. But in playback all I get is a black screen with no audio. Is there some A/V setting that needs to be adjusted?
      Mac OS X (10.4.4)

    #8 External Monitor Viewing.
    Shane's Stock Answer #8:
A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
    1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
    2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
    3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
    4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
    5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
    6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section

  • Print to Video problem

Hi. I'm trying to back up a large amount of raw footage by using the File/Print To Video option to record onto MiniDV tapes. I'm using a MacBook Pro, FCP 6.0.6 and a Sony HDV Handicam as the recording deck. When I've tried to Print to Video, the footage displays on my monitor, but not in the display LCD panel of the video camera. After rewind and playback, nothing has been recorded. I went through the forum to read up on similar problems and think the issue might be that I can't get FCP to give me any Video Playback options under File/Audio/Video Settings/Summary/Video Playback: I'm defaulting to "None" and only "Digital Cinema Desktop Preview" options are available. I've tried rebooting several times, switching between a Sony iLink S400 cable and a generic Firewire, but no luck.
I don't know if it matters, but the original footage is stored on an external drive. It wasn't shot on this handicam. When I logged and transfered a small clip of this footage into a new test project, I allow FCP to match my sequence settings to the clip settings, resulting in a Sequence/Sequence Settings Panel with the following:
    Frame Size: 960x720 HD (960x720) (16:9)
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD (960x720)
    Field Dominance: None
    Editinng Timebase: 23.98
    QuickTime Video Settings
    Compressor: DVDPRO HD 720p60
    Audio Settings
    Rate: 48kHz
    Depth: 16-bit
    Config: Channel Grouped
Thanks for any help you can give me. I need a reliable way to archive a ton of footage like this, so any alternative ideas would also be appreciated.
    Many thanks,
    Rick

OK...now keep that in mind. HDV camera. Print to video is the solution...BUT...
    Frame Size: 960x720 HD (960x720) (16:9)
    Pixel Aspect Ratio: HD (960x720)
    Field Dominance: None
    Editinng Timebase: 23.98
    QuickTime Video Settings
    Compressor: DVDPRO HD 720p60
DVCPRO HD! That is NOT HDV. You cannot PRINT TO VIDEO via firewire a format that is NOT HDV. Not possible. Not unless you convert it TO HDV. But then you are taking a nice 100mbps, intra-frame (individual frame) 720p 23.98 footage and convert it to 1080i 29.97 Log GOP format. It will not be close to what your original footage looks like.
If you insist on archiving to HDV, then you need an HD Capture card (one that cross converts 720p to 1080i, BTW), and high end HDV deck with SDI imputs. But then you are changing HD formats.
Nope...wanna keep the same format? Then rent a DVCPRO HD deck. Know though, that when you output you won't be running at 23.98 anymore...it will be converted to 720p 59.94, as that is the format that the tape records. And you can't remove the pulldown, as outputting to tape from FCP doesn't include any 23.98 pulldown flags.
This is P2, right? Keep and archive the ORIGINAL P2 card dumps to bare SATA drives, or firewire drives. Or invest in an LTO tape archiving.
HDV is not an archiving/mastering format. It is acquisition only.

  • Audio issues -- Print to Video

Audio is good as print to video starts, but either drops out all together, or goes out of sync after 30 minutes or so.
Thanks for your time in advance.

    Have you tried goat sacrifice?
The results for you may vary - but not for the goat.
If that does not help, we can progress to the Graduate solution. As Dustin Hoffman learns as the Graduate, " one word for you - audio mixdown".
Ok, so its two words and that isn't what they said anyway ... still, try to compress down the number of audio tracks (audio mixdown) to ease the computing demands on output. Also, make sure all areas where there is audio are covered by video - for example - put a black slug in the video track if you fade to black in an area where there is still audio running under.
If these don't work for you, it would help us enormously if you gave some basic info about your project. FCP version? Media type? VTR? compexity of edits? you know the stuff...
    cheers

  • Why Does My Camera Stop Recording in the Middle of a Video??

Why does my Rebel T3i stop recording in the middle of me video taping?? Is it because I do not have enough space on my camera for a video? It lets me take plenty more pictures. And when it stops in the middle of a recording, I start recording again, and it works for a little while then stops again! I really don't get it. It is extremely frustrating because I am left with all these chopped up video segments and I completely miss something that my baby is doing (the reason I started taping in the first place!) I am begining to wonder if I should just invest in a video camera instead of taping with my camera. I would REALLY prefer not to, seeing as how I spent a fortune on it, and would like it to do what it is intended to do! Can someone please help??

The camera formats the memory card using the "FAT32" filesystem rather than a proprietary filesystem.  This allows the card to be read by nearly any computer (Windows, Mac, etc.)
HOWEVER... there's a limitation in that filesystem that no single file can grow above a specific size.  That size is 4GB.
Also, the camera documentation describes that the camera will stop just 1 second short of the 30 minute mark regardless of the file size.
In pro video, movies are normally constructed by bringing together many very short clips.  The one-long-continuous-take video style isn't used.  If you are attempting to record a long event in one-long-continuous-take then it would be better to use a video camera for the task.

  • Canon 5D Mark iii stopped recording video!

I was shooting on my new Canon 5d Mark iii yesterday, recording to a 16SD card and using a RODE shotgun mic for sound when a weird image appeared on my live view.  Towards the right of the screen these blocks started piling up.  When there were 4 blocks, my video stopped recording!  I'm talking maybe 10 or 15 second videos here.  My SD was less than half full at the time, and when I hit record again I only got about 10 to 15 seconds more of video recording.  What the heck was going on!?  Please help!
I've drawn a picture of what the blocks lookied like to further illustrate my point.  Thank you!

    Hello ScottESwartz,
What you are seeing with this indicator is the amount of data being recorded to the buffer.  Even though you are using a 16GB memory card, if it is a slow card, this indicator will fill quickly and stop.  It makes it seem as though the card you're using doesn't have the speed to keep up with the recording level you have set.  You could test this by selecting a smaller movie recording size and compression method within the Menu.  For example, you may try 640 / 30 frames / IPB and see if this indicator either doesn't appear or fills more slowly.  This tells you that the card isn't simply fast enough to handle large recordings with ease, hence the quick fill up.
Another method would be to use a much faster class of card, for shooting full HD video use the highest class of card you can afford.  This would be Class 10 with a high write speed.  This ensures that the buffer in the camera writes to the card quickly, allowing for longer record times.

  • Printing to Video deteriorates and finally stops working

I've been experiencing problems with Print to Video & Edit to Tape over the past two weeks and now it has stopped working altogether. The Deck is a Panasonic DVCPro AJ-D455p. Log & Capture works fine. Edit to Tape was the first thing that stopped working. then Print to Video would send the audio but no video, then it wouldn't work at all so we were playing content directly from the timeline and recording manually. Now we can't even do this. I'm trying to identify if this is a hardware or software issue. (the deck plays fine to the monitor) Any ideas? (At first powering down the deck, restarting FCP seemed to help. no longer.) I've also checked and rechecked the A/V settings for output, refreshed the deck through FCP etc...nothing helps on the settings side of things.
    PowerPC G4   Mac OS X (10.4.2)   FCP studio 5.0

A strange and bizzare series of events has left me baffled re: FCP. About a month ago communication with the Panasonic AJ-D455 began to deteriorate. I was not able to edit to tape, then could not print to vid, so was posting to tape playing off the timeline. Log and Capture worked fine. My external monitor would not mirror the desktop no matter what my AV settings were. Then Log & Capture stopped working. I've run FCP rescue, I've trashed preferences, I've checked the FireWire, I've checked the deck. I've reformated the entire computer, reinstalled FCP...still no luck.
Other random facts. After I trashed the preferences, the system worked normally for about 30 minutes. After I reinstalled FCP the system worked fine for 1/2 day.
Any suggestions on what to do, look for, next?
Also, the deck works flawlessly with another machine. The FW cable is also fine.
Not sure what to isolate next...

  • Activate recording deck automatically during print to video?

Hey all, here is my question.
Up till now I have always just prepped a file to print to video than manually started my camera or Sony deck to start recording and then clicked start on FCP and recorded the video to tape.
I have a client that now wants my video to start at EXACTLY the 60 second mark. Is there a way to set up FCP to trigger the deck to start recording as it starts playing the color bars, title, countdown etc? So that the time code on the tape starts at exactly the moment the first color bars start?
Then I can set up the color bars, title, countdown to total up to sixty seconds and have the video begin right there.
    Is my question clear?
I want bar code to start at 00.00.00.00;00
and I want the final countdown to end at 00.00.00.60;00 and the video to begin. Make sense? Is there a way to get FCP to start deck recording?
    Thanks in advance.

That would be Edit to Tape, not Print to Video.
No. You do NOT want timecode to start at 00:00:00:00... How will you pre-roll? One common layout is tape black starting at 58:15:00, Bars and Tone for 60 seconds, 20 seconds of black, 8 second countdown, with a 2-pop and 2 seconds of black to have program starting at exactly 01:00:00;00
    Make sense?
    Patrick
EDIT: BTW, Edit to tape allows you to Black the tape. If using RS-422 deck control, you can set the starting timecode in the dialog. If FW, you'll have to set it in the deck...
