Print to windows networked printer

I am somewhat new to Mac and wondered if someone might be able to help out.
At work, I am trying to connect to a network printer/copier on a windows machine. I can locate the printer fine, but whenever I try to print to it, it simply prints 7-8 pages of random characters or code with some blank pages mixed into it. Is this a driver issue? The printer/copier is a Konica Minolta 7145. The printer selection now says "General postscript printer." Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Are you using Bonjour on the Mac and the PC?
That should fix it.

  • Can no longer find Printer on Windows network

I had a connection to the HP LaserJet 4050 at work and accidentally deleted it. We have a Windows network. I remember using the Windows Printing option before, but the printer no longer shows up when I select Network Neighborhood. The only thing that shows up is workgroup. Here is what I remember doing before:
    - Bring up Print & Fax in System Preferences
    - Click + to add a printer
    - Select Default Browser
    - Click More Printers
    - Select Windows Printing from the top pop-up menu
    - Change Workgroup to Network Neighborhood in the pop-up
Someone else has tried this with his Mac here at work, and the above steps worked. He has a Mac Book Pro 17". I am running a Powerbook G4 15". If it matters, I set up the printer on my system back when I was running Panther; this is the first time I have tried adding the printer while I've had Tiger.
The only thing I have gotten to work is the hint on MacOSXHints (http://www.macosxhints.com/article.php?story=20051204134420783). While this did work, I do not want to have my network password in my printer preferences (or wherever they are kept).

Yes, this could have happened after any number of updates, since I'm almost positive that I added the printer under Panther. This first came to light with OS X 10.4.6. I do not know when I first saved the printer, but I know it was prior to Tiger. Actually, now that I think about it, it may have been a different computer, too. Where my older computer was Panther and my new computer is Tiger. I do not remember exactly how I dragged over my user folder from the backup. I may have updated it to Tiger before copying it over to the new system. Of course, if the printer does not come over with my user prefs, then I must have set it up under Tiger.
I cannot say for sure if the IP address of the printer has changed or not. However, connecting it to the other Mac worked. At the time, we both had 10.4.6, although his is Intel and mine is PowerPC.
The name of the printer has not changed nor the location. The name consists of two letters and underscore and two more letters (e.g. ab_cd).
I have tried having a connection to the server where the printer is located and trying to add the printer while it is connected. I was hoping that, with a connection, the software might be able to find the server.

  • Windows network printing to HP Laserjet 4L

Recently got our first mac, an iBook runing OSX 4.4 Tiger. A great part of the deal was that we could get a free printer, a Deskjet 5900 series to replace our old color printer which was not working so well. We have a home network with 2 desktops both running Windows 2000, a printer connected to each one, a linksys modem connected to cable and a linksys router connecting them all via ethernet cable, as well as wireless capacity for a couple of other notebooks (another WIndows 2000 and a powerbook).
When we bought the iBook a concern was that it would work okay with the Windows network. The internet connection and file sharing is working fine, but we still can't print.
After talking with various support people at Apple and HP, we were assured that there was no way to print through the Windows computers, and that the best option was to get either a print server, or preferably a router with a printer port. Furthermore, they said the 5900 series doesn't work through the network at all, and can only be connected directly to the mac. So our only bet was the other printer, an old reliable Laserjet 4L.
So I invested time and money in a SMC Barricade router with a parallel connection for the Laserjet 4L. (It predates USB) This is daisy-chained to the Linksys router. via a crossover patch cord going from LAN to LAN port on the 2 routers. The iBook is now connected to the new SMC router, and the 2 Windows 2000 desktops to the Linksys, and everything talks to everything else, the 2 Windows computers print fine through the router, but I still can't figure how to set up the printer on the mac. I installed Gimp-Print, which has a driver for the 4L, but can't figure out how to get to the printer. The SMC people told me to put in the IP address of the router, which worked for the Windows computers. However, when I tried typing that address on the iBook as HP IP Printing, which seems the best option, it just says Not Found.
I talked to Apple again, and this time they told me I'm up **** creek bacause it's a parallel printer and they are no longer supported. Period. But he said I could try this forum, and if anyone could help me it would be you, gentle readers.
Anyone have any suggestions at all?
iBook   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   Windows network user

Success! I updated the OS X from 4.4 to 4.5, but the Printer Browser window looked the same. It took a support person to tell me the obvious, that I had to press the little oval button on the top right to expand the window. I then tried installing with CUPS+Gimp-Print, and default queue, but when I tried to print, the print queue stopped itself. I deleted that, and reinstalled, using Foomatic/hpijs, and the LP queue, and that is working fine! So I don't know if the problem was the driver, or, more likely, that the default queue wasn't found.
As for the DeskJet5940, I am now using a Deskjet5850 foomatic/hpijs driver, and so far it is working too. I was able to print a web page with some graphics. I imagine the printer model is too new to have a 3rd party driver yet--maybe one will come out in a while.
But the embarassment of driver riches has given me a new, much less urgent question. I now have 3 drivers available for the LaserJet 4L, the CUPS+Gimp-Print, the vanilla Gimp-Print (both v5.0.0-beta2), and the Foomatic/hpijs. Does anyone have an opinion about which of these is more likely to work well? Does my particular setup (printer attached to parallel port of the router) make any difference?

  • Loss of Windows Networking and Network Printing

I am having an issue with an older G4 i-book running Tiger (I have installed the latest updates). Recently I have been unable to print to my network printer (HP 2605 dn)which has been running smoothly for over 2 years. Additionally I can no longer see any windows network folders (Workgroup, MSHome) within the network icon in Finder. I cannot even see the i-book from the 2 other macs in my home which again worked flawlessly up until now. I can connect to the Internet fine and also use Mail with no issues at all. I am connecting to the network using airport to a D-Link access point a short distance away. I must be missing something basic but I cant seem to resolve this one. Any help is appreciated.

Ok, do I ever feel like an idiot. After looking at your response (which I thought would be a complete waste of time)I noticed that the i-book was not even connected to my wireless network! It had grabbed my neighbors WiFi and I didn't even notice. Thanks for waking me up out of the fog. Problem solved. Boy do I feel like a noob.

  • Can't print .pdf files on windows network printer

    Hi,
I cannot print .pdf files on Canon IRC printer with UFR II 2.23 or 2.24 drivers connected through a windows network by LDP protocol, either with Apple Preview or Acrobat Reader - looks like the software doesn't find the printer (I have the rainbow whell and the software does not answer). It can last for hours, there is no other solution than forcing the soft to quit and finding another way to print. I have updated Canon drivers from 2.23 to 2.24 (all supposed to work with Lion) and that does not fix the problem.
This problem does not happen with Ms Word or Safari (or, more generally, other types of files) and it worked fine with Snow Leo even with pdf!! I also have windows XP with Parallels and guess what? I can print through Parallels with Acrobat Reader (for windows XP) on the same printer on which I cannot print with my Mac with Lion and Preview or Acrobat Reader for Mac!
    Please help !!
    Alexis

    Correction
It works with Acrobat but the printer does not like queues of documents...
The site privided me with the topics I fas looking for about this : it's a Canon drivers and Lion permissions problem.

  • Need help connecting a windows network printer to my Mac (Xerox Phaser 3600) over a windows home network

Need help connecting a windows network printer to my Mac (Xerox Phaser 3600) over a windows home network.
My Mac runs lion and the windows desktop runs Windows XP
I have tried for a few hours or so to connect my mac to this printer over a home network.
For your information it does work when connected directly to my mac using a USB Cable.
If there is no soultion could I have help getting the drivers for a Dell All-in-One Photo 926

In most cases you can connect to the Windows shared printer from the Mac. But there is a dependence on the Mac driver being compatible. For many consumer inkjets, the vendor created driver cannot be used for this type of connection so you need to look at alternative drivers, such as Gutenprint or PrintFab. If you can tell us which brand and model of printer you have shared from Windows then we can answer your question with the preferred procedure on the Mac.

  • OSX Lion, Windows Network Printer

I upgraded to OSX Lion, the process was easy and works well.
The printers I setup with Snow Leopard on the windows network do not function anymore.
When I print the printer goes to pause immediately. Release the job, it goes to pause again.
Oddly before one could browse the network and add printers. That functionality is also gone now.
Some of the printers require authentication the previous OS would allow you to enter your windows network password.
There are other folks also complaining of the same issue. It may have to do with the SMBX that is part of the new OS.

I have the same issue, and with me, it is not a keychains issue.
In the past, my Brother HL-2030 laser printer was connected to my DSL modem (a Telekom Austria Pirelli PRGAV4202N). After entering its IPP URL, that worked perfectly.
With Lion, this has stopped working, showing exactly the symptoms you described (printer goes to pause immediately).
Today, I have moved the printer from the Pirelli modem to my Iomega StorCenter ix2-200 NAS which supports USB printing, too.
With the NAS, printing does not work, either, but the symptoms slightly vary. In the beginning, there is a slight improvement: When I click the "+" icon for adding a printer, the printer shows up in the list! (This is new - with the Pirelli modem, I had to manually enter the IPP URL.)
But as soon as I try printing, the printer queue dialog (German MacOS) shows "Drucker suchen" ("searching for a printer") for a few seconds, and then the printer dialog shows the printer as paused ("Angehalten.") with the additional information "Drucker ist nicht angeschlossen" ("printer is not connected").
When selecting the blue "i" (print job info), the information "Auftragsnachricht: Der Drucker-URI ist falsch oder existiert nicht mehr." (literally: "print job message: The printer URI is wrong or does not exist any longer".)
This is really annoying, and I am desparately looking for a solution, too.

  • CUPS won't allow printing in a Windows network

I just spent five days trying to get printing working in my OSX 10.9.2 (iMac). Here's the thing: the printing network is a Windows smb network. Everything works fine on my MacBook OSX 10.9.2. I can manually install the smb://xxxx/yy printer and it works just fine there. So what's wrong with my iMac? I have no idea, but this is what happened. First I tried installing through Printers & Scanners / Advanced. And it worked fine on OSX 10.9. I used guest/guest credentials for the Windows network printer when asked.
But after upgrading to 10.9.2 it stopped working. The queue window says Ready to print and refresh or Resume does nothing. In the error log it says "ERROR: error in CUPS Filter - : Broken pipe". And also there are possibly problems with authentication.
Then I tried installing the printer through the CUPS web interface. Had weird problems with it, as it's very hard to control users and authentication. At one point I thought I had cracked it, I was able to print with my Windows network credentials. But the next print did not work anymore. I had to uninstall the printer and install again to get just one print. After trying to set users right with different sudo commands I am now at point where I can't even get one print through.
What can I try? I have done Reset many times from Printers & Scanners, no difference. What does the broken pipe mean? And how to set the printing CUPS user to what I want (it needs to be different than my OSX user or "root")?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Select
    /var/log ▹ cups ▹ error_log
from the hierarchical list on the left side of the Console window. If you don't see that list, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar. Then select the messages from the time of the last failed printing attempt. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
If there are runs of repeated messages, post only one example of each. Don’t post many repetitions of the same message.
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.

  • FAX through HP laser jet 3050 which is connected on a Windows Network. I m also connected to this Network and i print through HP LJ 3050. How can i sent fax through HP LJ 3050?

HOW can i sent FAX through HP laser jet 3050 which is connected on a Windows Network.
I m also connected to this Network and i print through HP LJ 3050. How can i sent fax through HP LJ 3050?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Apparently there is no HP software support for the HP 3050 fax or scan functions with OS X 'Lion' 10.7:
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?objectID=c02950970 #A1
    http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?&objectID=c0292511 4
    Alternatives?
    1) Run a Windows client on the Mac using Boot Camp or one of the available virtualization programs like Parallels, VMware Fusion, and others so you can run the latest Windows print/fax/scan driver.
    2) If your Mac hardware supports an older OS X version, downgrade to one (Snow Leopard?) that still had support for print, fax and scan.
    3) Buy a newer printer. A 2007 model is 5+ years old, and should now be fully depreciated in a business.

  • MacBook to print on a windows network

I have proceeded with the install process to enable my mac to print to my windows network. However, when I attempt to give my username and password, nothing works. "Administrator" or my XP login will be accepted. Are there settings on the XP machine that need to be revised? Any assistance is appreciated.

The apple link I provided above has the same procedure it is: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301397 I would like to know why following the regular install method does not work for a lot of people. It will not authenticate unless you provide the IP user name and password in the advanced manual way. It is easy enough to do it manually with good instructions. The people helping need to be careful, they all seem to post the first iFelix site and do no get that it is the authentication that is messed up. I searched this site and many others and people just don't get that some of us for what ever reason have to use smb and install the user name and password manually. It almost drove me nuts. BDAqua helped me figure out the smb protocol on the networking thread.

  • Printing Problems on my Windows Network

I have a MacBook Pro 15” set up to work on my household wireless network. I’m trying to print from the MacBook to either my HPLaserJet 6P or my HP OfficeJet 2210 and encounter problems. When I try to print to either printer from the MacBook, I get a page with characters printed on a few lines at the top and then nothing on the rest of that page; I also keep getting blank pages after the first page is done. I have to manually stop the printing. The characters at the top of the first page are ALWAYS as follows:
    %!PS-Adobe-3.0
    %RBINumCopies 1
    %%Pages: (attend)
    %APLDSCEncoding:UTF8
    %%Title: (L
I’ve downloaded and installed up to date drivers for both printers for OS X v10.4 from the HP website. (I’m running v10.4.8). I’m using a Linksys wireless router and my Mac ‘sees’ the shared drives and both printers as well as my workgroup in my Windows Network Neighborhood. Accessing the shared drives on the network from the Mac is not a problem.
Both printers are printing the same exact thing and behaving the same way. I have tried everything I can think of (uninstalling both printers and all drivers, downloading new copies of drivers and reinstalling them, reading books etc. etc.) I’ve about had it trying to troubleshoot this one. I can’t find any reference to this anywhere so far. Any help is appreciated.

Here's the walk-through of LPR printing on the IP protocol.
    http://itinfo.mit.edu/article.php?id=6664
Note that under "Printer Type" they select "LPD/LPR"
If your printer has an ethernet jack, then the queue name is usually left blank and each printer has its own IP number ("Printer Address"). In the example, they typed a server name under "Printer Address". Chances are, you will be typing in an IP number (192.168.1.78, for example - the number assigned to your printer or to your standalone printserver)
If you're connected through a printserver and it has only one port, generally, the "Queue Name" is left blank (don't write "nil" like they did in the example) and the IP number is that of the printserver.
If you have multiple ports on a printserver, then each port has a name (and the IP number is that of the printserver - same IP number for both ports). Be sure to type the port name into the "Queue Name" field in Print Utility for each printer connected to a port on the printserver.

  • Printing to a Windows Network printer after 10.4.9 upgrade

Very desperate with this. We have a couple macs at the office and after a move and some software updates all cannot print via a Windows network printer.
Unable to connect to SAMBA host is the only error we receive.
I checked my smb:\\ syntax, I have tried IP address, tried picking from the list (which by the way the printers do show up yet you cannot print to them)
Extremely frustrating and with an Anti-Mac IT director this gives him more ammo to say Macs are irrelavant in the workplace.
The Macs are bound to Windows Active Directory and the users are Active Directory users. We do not have a Mac OS X server. Our printer server is Windows 2003 SP1, the printers range from an HP LaserJet 4100 to a Xerox WorkCentre 24, all do not work.
The ONLY network printer that appears to work is the printer associated during the login

  • Macbook Pro not printing to Windows network printer

    Hello,
Recently purchased Macbook Pro Mac OS 10.7.2 Lion and I am unable to print to a windows network printer.
When I click the print button nothing happens. I have tried to print from Safari, Word, Excel etc and nothing happens.
The printer is added and showing as idle. ( I am able to print to the printer from my own Windows 7 PC).
I have reset the printer settings and re-added but the issue remains.
Both the printer and Macbook are connected to the network.
    Has anyone any suggestions please?.
    Thanks,

Why do I keep getting "Connection failed: NT_STATUS_BAD_NETWORK_NAME" when trying to print on Windows networked printer over wi-fi?

If I run the following (on the machine I'm trying to set up the share)
    smbclient -L localhost -U%
    I got the following output
Connection to localhost failed (Error NT_STATUS_CONNECTION_REFUSED)
so I thought it might be something incorrect with the iptables side of things, however I haven't really touched that at all and it seems to look correct
    iptables -nvL
Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT 667 packets, 79977 bytes)
pkts bytes target prot opt in out source destination
Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT 0 packets, 0 bytes)
pkts bytes target prot opt in out source destination
Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT 157 packets, 20724 bytes)
pkts bytes target prot opt in out source destination
So from my (very little) knowledge this appears correct (I think)... However it appears that something is blocking access somewhere.

  • Printing on a HP6110 on a windows network

I've managed to connect to a windows network and the HP6110 printer on it. However every time I send a document I get four lines of script and then endless pages of blank sheets.
I've selected the printer through the printer setup routine - windows printing, network neighbourhood etc. When selecting the HP6110 from the list of network printer the window has the option of choosing the printer model. The selection of HP printer models doesn't have the 6110. Does this matter or is the 'Generic' fine.
    Can anyone help

thank you pointing me in the direction of the HPIJS driver.
This is now installed, but I'm still finding problems printing.
I'm able to select the printer and send documents, but they don't appear!
The way I installed the printer was as follows:
    system preferences
    fax and print
    printing
press + underneath the 'in menu' & 'printer' window
    printer browser window
    press default browser icon
    press more printers button
    new window appears
select Windows Printing and Network Neighborhood from the two dropdown boxes
select 'Home' - name of Windows network
    press Choose
select 'mums' - PC with HP 6110 printer connected to it
    press choose
    Select HPoffice 6100 series
    open Printer Model dropdown box
    select HP
    select 'HP Officejet 6110 footmatic/hpijs'
    Open Printer setup Utility
Open Printer List 'hpoffice' - 'HP Officejet 6110 Footmatic/hpijs' appears
This is what I do when printing a document
    Open WORD
    File
    Print
    Press print
nothing comes out of the printer
    HPoffice window opens
blue/white progress bar appears then disappears
    'No job printing' message appears.
    Am I doing anything wrong?
I'd be grateful of any guidance
    Many thanks
