Print with indesign CS on the  Epson stylus photo R2400

Hi,
I just bought the R2400, but find some problems by printing from indesign, I am using a power PC G4 with a 10.4.6 version.
I would like to print with the premium semigloss photo paper to have a nice photo colour feeling but the print outs are very different from the original folder, also a font directly made in indesign is printed ok but if I place an image with a logo, the logo is pixelised (if I print the same image with photoshop, the logo is fine)
If somebody could give me some advices, that would be great thanks.
Best
Perrine

Well, you picked the very hardest way to do it, and as time goes on, you will probably discover many other things wrong with your system as well. You CANNOT go back to Tiger from Leopard via an archive and install; you have to wipe the drive and start over from scratch, and then transfer all your data over from a backup and reinstall most, if not all, of your applications so the right elements are in the right places. Even so you'll never get your system exactly back to where it was, unless you had a perfect bootable Tiger backup (via SuperDuper) and merely restored from that. Obviously whatever Leopard element that killed your printing capability is still on your frankenstein system of BOTH Tiger and Leopard parts.
There are hundreds of posts on the issue of reverting to Tiger from Leopard, many quite detailed. So many things are changed from upgrading from one to the other that what you attempted (unless you completely wiped the drive and all your data) has always proven disastrous, which is why I highly recommended against it after reading hundreds of horror stories here.
I suggest doing a search at downgrading from Leopard to Tiger, following those instructions if you can, and making the best of it. You'll find that springing the $200 for an external drive would have been a much better and easier solution, because it can come in very handy if you ever need to do any maintenance on your internal hard drive, or if some update or problems kill your internal drive and you can't even boot the system. Not to mention sooner or later always needing more storage capability, and even a drive for reliable backups.
I would never dream of attempting a downgrade or needing to do it in the first place (having taken precautions as to never have to), so I can't give you any further advice than that.

How to connect via Firewire/Thunderbolt adapter an Epson Stylus Photo R2400 printer to a new Mac Pro

When you switch from USB to FireWire, you have essentially installed a new (i.e., different) Printer.
In the Add-a-Printer dialog, delete[-] the existing Printer queue which is set up for USB. Then, with the Printer connected via FireWire, Add [+] a new Printer queue and it should set it up correctly this time.
To go back to USB, you would have to delete and re-add in a similar fashion later.

  • Purchase advice? Considering the Epson Stylus Photo R3000 Inkjet Printer

Please advise - we're considering the purchase of the Epson Stylus Photo R3000 Inkjet Printer.
Replacing an Epson Stylus Photo R1900 after years of frustration due to no support for printing from Illustrator on a Mac. Many others have posted in frustration as well - a common work-around is to save as PDF, then print from PDF. Our work-around involves PrintFab but we would like to remove that element from the equation.
We have a sizable investment in Epson paper so staying within the Epson family is necessary.
Also must be able to print at 13x19 inches (Super B) which limits our choices.
Given all of the above, can anyone advise for or against the R3000?
    Thanks in advance!

This Apple document says the driver is available for auto-download and install when you add the printer in Print & Scan:
OS X: Printer and scanner software available for download
OS X has a new paradigm for getting print drivers.
Manufacturers give the current driver(s) to Apple to put on its servers.
OS X keeps an "index" of where to find drivers (whether on the server or already installed on your Mac), and when you Add the printer in Print & Scan prefs, or on demand in the print dialog, OS X finds and uses the driver.
No need to download and install anything yourself.
If your Mac says it can't find the driver, you can force CUPS (OS X's print system) to re-build the index of drivers (both online and already installed drivers) by Resetting Printing System:
OS X Mavericks: Reset the printing system
If you're still not getting it working, you can download and install all the epson drivers from:
Epson Printer Drivers v2.18 for OS X
(you may still need to Reset Printing in order to have the drivers found.)

  • Epson Stylus Photo R2400 won't print large pages?

I recently upgraded to Mac OS X Leopard. I immediately had problems with printing to my Epson Stylus Photo R2400 as a print driver gutenprint had suddenly replace my Epson driver when going thu dialog to print. Called and Epson and they got me thru process of getting rid of the newly replaced gutenprint to an Epson driver. Problem is I can't print anything larger than an 8.5x11 page. The printer set up says and shows me that what I have set as an 11x17 or 13x19 is going to print. But all that prints on this large expensive paper is an area 8.5x8.5. No matter what I change in set up. Epson says they have done all they can do. (And I just found out last week they have replaced this printer with another printer). I have hundreds of dollars in newly purchased inks and I am wasting expensive paper.
Also I had to remove the patch for OS leopard to get the printer to work in this diminished capacity.
And my email signature disappeared. Can't get that back either.
But printer is my biggest problem. Any suggestions how to get this printer to work with this new OS leopard and print large sizes? I have deadlines and hate to outsource the printing when I could easily do it in house.

  • Problems printing using iPhoto and Epson Stylus Photo R2400

I'm using OS 10.5.6 and iPhoto 8.0.2(402) to print pictures on my Epson Stylus Photo R2400.
I have other printers set up on this computer and they all print everything just fine regardless of the program I am using.
Using the Epson Stylus, I'm able to print from any other program than iPhoto.
When I try to print pictures from iPhoto, I get the error message...
can't open ` /private/var/spool/cups/tmp/4a18c65407c9b (the numbers at the end changes each time I try to print.
When I go in to check the folders out to see what might be causing the problem, the permissions on the folder cups and tmp have the following rights set up. system = Read & Write, _lp = No Access, everyone = No Access.
I've been able to set the everyone setting to equal Read & Write access, but I can't get the _lp access to change. When I reboot the computer, the everyone setting goes back to No Access.
Any ideas for how I can get this to work?
    Thanks,
    Bill

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. I don't have a tried and true fix for that but I would start with dumping the printer driver via the System/Print pane and then reinstall it. Go to the Epson site to download the latest driver for that particular model in case there's a newer one released.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

Unfortunately it seems that I cannot print on CD's/DVD's anymore since I have installed Snow Leopard.
I am using the Epson Stylus Photo R200 which was no problem with Tiger or Leopard.
When using the Epson Print CD program I am getting the error message that the driver for this purpose is not installed.
I have connected the printer via USB directly to my Mac Pro, then checked the website of epson. Unfortunately they have only older drivers. Never the less I tried it with them. Same problem. The I installed all epson drivers from the Snow Leopard download page again. Same problem.
Tried it in Windows XP (Parallels). Same problem. Very bad.
    What can I do?

I don't know if this helps, but I've always had problems printing wireless with my Epson Photo Printer 580. I am now able to print CDs wireless by going to Epson's North America site and downloading the EPson Print CD v2.0 as well as as the common updater.

Everytime I try to print an image from Photoshop CC to my Epson Stylus Photo R3000, it can't seem to find the printer.  I have no problem printing the same image from Lightroom 5 or Preview on Mac.  The printer shows in the Photoshop Print Dialogue box but after I click Print the print queue just says searching for printer and can't find it.  I can print a test page from the printer Utility and anything else I try, just not Photoshop CC.  I'm running OSX 10.9 Mavericks.  Thanks.

  • Epson Stylus Photo R2400 printer driver will not update from 2.53 to 3.0

I am having an issue with installing a print driver from Epson's web site. I do not have access to the print options or any other settings of the printer when i try to FILE>PRINT. The choices are crossed off the list and say "This panel is not compatible with your computer. Contact the printer manufacturer for the latest version of your printer software."
It says my driver is version 2.53, I installed the 3.0 Driver numerous times today, one of which was with an Epson tech support representative and their conclusion was that it is something wrong with my computer.
The printer prints and is recognized in the print & fax utility; i can add and remove it at will, but the 2.53 will not upgrade to 3.0.
    Has anyone had this problem?

Hi Apos, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Is this the driver you got, v3.10...

  • MacBook Pro unable to print to HP LaserJet 1320 or Epson Stylus Photo R200

I cannot get my MacBook Pro to print wireless to either one of my printers and I haven't tried to connect the laptop to them. The HP 1320 doesn't show up in the 'Add Printer' dialogue box. The Epson printer shows up in the print dialogue box but there's an icon in front of the name that looks like an electrical plug. The print queue dialogue box says the printer is offline (the printer is, indeed, turned on). After reading several threads I installed the hpijs software to no avail. I also upgraded the Epson printer drivers from Apple support - again, no-go.
I also tried to install (or reinstall) the MacOSXServerUpdCombo10.6.6.pkg. I got a message saying that I didn't have the right kind of computer for this. (say what?)
My desktop is a PowerMac G5 with the Duel 2 GHz PowerPC G5 Processor. It's running 10.5.8.
Is there other information I should supply? I'll admit that I'm not terribly techy and will appreciate any and all help possible.
    Thanks,
    peggy

This leads me question two of the three assumptions listed and I don't know how to answer them:
How do I know if the HP 1320 is correctly configured for the wireless network router?
If I read your original post correctly, you've used the HP on the network wirelessly before. The problem came when you upgraded your OS X to a newer version.
The HP printer should STILL be configured correctly for the WiFi router. The HP-printer-to-WiFi-network-router configuration did not change when you installed new OS software on the computer.
It might help to think of it as installing a wireless extension phone in your house. Your phone number didn't change. Your house address didn't change. You've just added a wireless extension phone to what is already in place.
How do I know if my Mac (which Mac the desktop or the laptop?) can still connect wirelessly to the network? (The laptop picks up wifi - is that the indication that it connects?)
Can you connect to the internet with your laptop wirelessly? If you can, that (95% probability) means that you're successfully connecting to the network that includes your HP printer. (The 5% occurrence is if you're actually connecting wirelessly to someone else's network, perhaps a neighbor with an unsecured WiFi network).
Moving on - where do I find the printer's IP address?
I tried to answer it in #5 of my original post, but I didn't realize the HP JetDirect interface had a separate button on it.
    So, paraphrasing again from HP...
Plug the printer into a power outlet and turn the power on the printer.
Wait a few minutes and then *print a network configuration page by pressing the black button on the network card on the back of the printer*.
If the IP address on the network configuration page is 0.0.0.0, then wait a few minutes and repeat step c. Do this until the IP address is not 0.0.0.0. The printer will have an automatic IP address (Auto IP) which should look like 169.254.x.y , where x and y can be any number between 0 and 255.
It came from this HP support page: http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&task Id=115&prodSeriesId=410622&prodTypeId=18972&prodSeriesId=410622&objectID=c004852 63
If and when I get to step 9 - will this list be displayed after I enter the printer's IP address?
    Hopefully, yes!
Also - after I installed the hpijs driver and the HPPrinter Driver I can't find them within the Applications folder or anywhere else. Where should I find them? Would it be a good idea to move them into the Applications folder?
The HP-ij-s driver is PROBABLY for inkjet printers and is not needed. It doesn't take up much space, so it's probably not worth worrying about at this point. The needed drivers SHOULD already be available as part of the OS X installation you already did, and you shouldn't need anything additional.
Just opening System Preferences, Hardware, Printer & Fax and trying to add the HP printer (once you have the IP address) should be all you'd need at this point.
Is there anything I should be aware of in conjunction with my desktop computer (PowerMac G5 - 10.5.1)?
Sorry, I don't think I can help you with the desktop PowerMac G5. If that configuration did not change, then it should still work.
Thanks for all of your help. I don't know what I would do otherwise.
No problem. It's not fast or immediate, but in my experience (since 2007) eventually almost every question posted here in Apple Discussions gets a correct, useful answer!

  • Problem printing Lightroom 5.4 on OSX 10.9, Mavericks to Epson Stylus Photo R2400

When I print, only the lower left 3rd of the page has any ink on it and it is only a window into the middle of the image. The quality of the print is fine and it prints normally in Photoshop CS6. What's up with LR 5.4? I have tried everything from resetting the printing system to reinstalling the entire OS to upgrading to a new MacPro. Still the same problem.

Thanks for the idea. When I try it in Photoshop, it works. But when I set up the paper size in Aperture to reflect the size of my panorama and try to print, I get an error message that the paper I've loaded in the printer (roll paper) is not appropriate for this print job. Aperture obviously expects a paper sheet with those dimensions. The problem seems to be that in Photoshop, when I click the "Page Setup" button in the "Print with Preview" dialogue box, I change the paper size directly in Mac OS X's paper settings. However, in Aperture there's no button like this, but only a list field with paper sizes and a box to type in a custom size. Even though it looks very similar, the functionality seems to be different.
    Am I missing something?

  • "communication error" issues with my epson stylus photo r2400

I have downloaded the most recent print driver download from Apple. The computer "recognizes" the printer, yet when I try to print anything I get a "Communication Error" message in the Printer window.

One of the problems I have in the classrooms with these printers is that someone will send a print job to the printer but because the job is mis-configured, it wiill not print.  Then the user logs off but does not cancel the print job.  That can block the printer from printing for any following user.
When that happens, the only reliabkle way that I have found is to kill ALL the print jobs, no matter which user submitted them.  Then I restart the printer and, ususlly, the computer allso.  That will seem to bring the printer back to working correctly.  The actual problem description may be "Printer Paused", "Communication Error"  or a few other errors.
To kill ALL the print jobs, log in as admin, open Applications/Utilities/Terminal and enter the following command"
"sudo cancel -a" without the quotes.
Enter your password and let the computer completly empty the prinrter queue.  Please be aware that this command will kill all the jobs for ALL printers connected to that computer and not just the 2400.
Then I restart the printer and it comes back on-line and ready.  If the printer is fed from a network or is a shered printer and has multiple computers sending it print jobs, you will have to kill the print jobs on all computers that may send a job to that printer just to catch the one bad job that is plugging up the system.
If that fails, you may have to reinstall the print driver and then the printer.

  • Lightroom 1.3.1 vs Epson Stylus Photo R2400

In print job panel, I can select SPR2400PremGlsyBstPhoto.ICC profile. But that is not available in Lightroom's print setttings section under media type. Is Premium Glossy Photo Paper the closest match, or do I have to move the ICC profile so it's also available to select here?
Instructions say, "if you select a standard printer-supplied profile, the media type selected in print settings must match the selected profile in print job panel.
I'm running Mac OS 10.4.11 on an Intell iMac.
    Thanks.

Yes, the media type is the paper you are using. Not all papers are listed, so you have to pick the closest one under Media Type. In your case, that would be Premium Glossy, and your Media Type does indeed match your selected profile. Remember to turn color matching off in the printer setting section also.

  • Printing with 'Emulate Adobe Illustrator 6.0' colour setting to Epson Stylus photo 2100

I have just upgraded my work Mac (G5 Dual 2ghz PowerPC running OSX 10.5.4 and 6gb Ram) to CS3. Brilliant, except when I came to print out a presentation for a client, it keeps crashing illustrator. It always happens when I try and print to my Epson Stylus Photo 2100 using 'Emulate Adobe Illustrator 6.0' colour settings. We have previously be using 'Emulate Adobe Illustrator 6.0' colour settings (as this gets a pretty true colour representation out of our CMYK printer). All the other settings work fine, but lacks the rich colour of the emulated setting. I don't seem to be able to get even close by adjusting the setting in the colour settings panel.
Does anyone know of a way round this, or of a patch to fix this? I have been checking out the internet, but cant find the Illustrator settings from version 6 (i'm sure it was very basic - but my boss wont except anything but those settings).
I have tried printing with 'Emulate Adobe Illustrator 6.0' colour settings to our Lexmark laser printer C522 (basic colour results) but it was able to print. Not sure why it should work on one printer but not another?
The printer we are using is a Epson Stylus Photo 2100, with the latest driver 3.09.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I wonder if it is a conflict with the system settings or Adobe Bridge settings somewhere. I used to use "Emulate Illustrator 6...", but always had a RIP interpret the information. I can't think of any reason why Illustrator would crash. I'd send Adobe Tech Support a note about it, maybe they can figure out what's going on. By the way, I sometimes switch my settings to "Emulate Illus 6..." and, like you, have had no problems ( but, I'm still in v10 via 10.3.9 ).

  • FIX for EPSON Print CD V2.02 - EPSON Stylus Photo R200 - MAC OS 10.5.9

I thought I'd post this ridiculously long info sheet on what finally got my R200 to work with EPSON Print CD and 10.5.8 just in case it might help someone else BEFORE they spend days searching for a solution.
Check the printer driver information in System Preferences, Print & Fax. If it says anything other than EPSON SP R200 Series, you’ve likely located the problem. My system showed the Gutenprint v5.1.3 and /or CUPS/+GIMP... I originally replaced the Gutenprint driver file with the CUPS... file thinking this would solve the Gutenprint driver problem. But, as I continued to look into what was going on, I think I found out that both driver files are actually considered Gutenprint driver files.
    1. Select the hard drive where the operating system is located.
    2. Select Library/Printers.
    3. Select the Epson folder and delete it and then Empty Trash to make sure it’s gone.
    4. Select Library/Preferences.
    5. Select the Epson folder and delete any files that are there.
(Steps 4 & 5 might not be necessary, but I’m listing everything that I did.)
    6. In System Preferences, select Printers and Fax. Control click in listing area and select Reset Printers.
    7. Load the Leopard Installation CD and select Optional Installation.
    8. Select Printers and select Epson. This will reload the printer drivers for all the EPSON printers that are included on the install CD.
    9. Go back to the System Preferences, Printers and Fax window. Click on the + sign to add a printer.
    10. There will likely be a listing with Printer Name as EPSON Stylus Photo R200, Kind as USB.
    11. Click on an arrow in the Print Using: box and select EPSON SP R200 Series. The printer icon changed dramatically at this point, with a rainbow of colors on the document shown coming out of the printer.
Note: **Working within the Print & Fax app seems to be key to getting the settings corrected.** Someone else pointed out that they also found this necessary. However, I couldn’t get the proper “Print Using:” option to appear until I cleaned out the Library/Printers/Epson folder, “Reset Printers”, and reloaded the EPSON printer drivers from the Leopard installation CD.
I had previously done the “Reset Printers” and reloaded the printer files, but as was advised against in the post I mentioned, I selected the “More Printers” option. That’s where I found the EPSON Stylus Photo R200 listed with the CUPS+Gimp ... and the Gutenprint driver listing options. Selecting what appeared to be the Gutenprint alternate printer driver didn’t help at all. I’m not sure if the EPSON SP R200 driver file was missing from the original listing of printer drivers or if I just missed it. I certainly would have looked for it if I had known it was the one that’s needed.
    12. Open the EPSON Print CD V2.02 app. Although I had already installed the Easy Print update, I got a message saying that the application needed the update to work. So, I reinstalled the Easy Print update.
    13. After reinstalling the Easy Print update, I reselected Update Printer Information. Much to my amazement, I got a message and a progress indicator showing the Printer Information was being updated to reflect the EPSON Stylus Photo R200 printer.
    14. When the Update Printer Information process had completed, I clicked on Print and suddenly found that I was able to choose Select Printer and pick the EPSON Stylus Photo R200 and CD/DVD wondrously appeared in the Media Type.
After this point, all the other instructions that are provided from EPSON seemed to work just fine.
Hopefully, there’s enough information in here somewhere that people with other operating systems and printers might at least be able to get a clue . . .

I dug around on the Epson site and found this which seemed to address the exact problem so they obviously know about it. Unfortunately even these rather drastic steps failed to solve the issue for me.
