Printable DVD's

I was having trouble getting my system to burn then found out it only had trouble on the printable DVD's i was using. When i used a non printable blank it worked fine. I need to use printable blanks. I have had no luck with "Memorex Printable DVD-R 16x 4.7 gb" disks. Has anyone else had this trouble and if so what medium are you using to solve it? [I have Encore DVD 1.5.]
thanks....
bill

As a bit of a followup to Ruud's answer, I just completed a 120 disc project (multiple copies of 30 different Encore Projects). Using the printable TY discs on my Plextor, I had 0% bad. On smaller Projects, I'd had the same success with my LG burner and TY's. Now, I have just probably jinxed myself for the next project, but TY's have proved great.

  • The Best printable dvd

I was using Memorex printable dvd's r- and it looks like there getting rid of those can someone tell me a great printable dvd r- white that is great quality and where I can get them by the thousands for a good price if anyone knows,
    thanks

The best DVD-R blanks are (imhyco) or from Taiyo Yuden, period. I've made hundreds of DVD-Rs using my Primera Bravo II (Plextor burner) with zero rejects. They make white and silver printable, as well as glossy, waterproof white. You can get the waterproof ones from Primera or from Diskmakers; the white and silver ones from Diskmakers are their "ultra" series.
I have no affiliation with Primea, Diskmakers, or Taiyo Yuden.

    My issue:
I have had no issues burning CDs and DVDs before. I recently bought a new printer that prints onto DVDs, so I bought some generic printable DVD-RWs and tried to burn from iDVD. The process seems to start ok, but stops about 1 minute into the actual burn and spits the DVD out of the drive. No error message, but this screen remains...
Just to check that my Superdrive was still working, I then tried a non-printable TDK DVD+R and a non-printable Kodak DVD-R and burned with no issues.
I decided it must be the generic printable DVDs, so I bought some printable imation DVD-Rs, but these will not work either.
Is there a known issue with printable DVDs or do I just need to keep trying different brands until I find one that works?

It may be the layer they have and your Superdrive - it may not like the different "feel" of printable media. I don't think iDVD has anything to do with it.
Take a look at these which I found googling:

  • Printing from ipad to Hub printable DVD

    Hi all,
I have an Epson 730 all in one printer. I use Pinnacle Studio app for creating videos, and Artstudio for photos and creating Dvd prints. These are two great apps. well worth $4.99us. I am using Epson's iprint app. I have TY brand hub printable DVDs. Iprint only has a fix dimension for printing to a DVD to a non hub printable DVD. Which leaves a white space around the hub on my DVDs. Is there any 3rd party app that can print to a DVD?
    Thanks,
    John Gerard

Exactly my point: it's not a problem of not having the right printer, it's a matter of iOS not allowing it because Air Print is blocking it, probably because of a deal with HP.
But, I've solved the problem so now I can print from my iMac, my Mac Air, my iPhone and my iPad. No thanks to the folks at Apple who purposely blocked that functionality.
Can you print from your iPad directly to the printer without involving an intervening computer, yes or no.

  • Printable DVD-R Media

Hi Guys, this is my first post having only recently bought a 15" Macbook Pro.
I'm trying to find the best media to use in my Macbook for Printable DVD-R.
I've read a lot of information and the general concensus seems to be Verbatim, the problem I'm finding is that I can't find a Verbatim Printable DVD-R which is only 8 x, all the products I've seen are 16 x, so not much good to me.
I live in the Uk and would welcome all suggestions.
    Kind regards
    Prebb

You don't need to look for an exact speed match and it is perfectly ok to select media rated for a higher speed than your burner. Verbatim is normally rated very high but like almost all companies, Verbatim has more than one source and not all sources produce quality discs. I've been getting my media from high volume sellers (as opposed to local stores where the media may sit on the shelf for months).

  • Photosmart essential 3.5 doesn't recognise c309a as printable dvd

Just purchased this HP C309a and it has print dvd/cd capability.
    Installed full software and driver.
tried to print dvd with photosmart essential 3.5 and when after I choose disc format, it is asking to select print device.
I chose c309a series but it shows this device is not recognise as a printable dvd.
    Any idea to solve this?
    I connected using ethernet cable.
I can print normal paper or photo but not this dvd.
    Thanks.

I think something wrong with photosmart essential 3.5. If I use windows 7, it won't recognise c309a as printable dvd.
If I use Win XP, it is working correctly.
So HP SUPPORT, please update the software and make it compatible with Windows 7.

  • Printable dvd burning problems

my imac superdrive it´s unable to burn printable dvds, i get a harware error "spindle servo failure" on toast.
i tried on a external lacie dvd burner and works fine.
i think it´s an issue because the vertical orientation on the burner.
    anyone has the same problem?
by the way, the dvds are from emtec.

No, just the wrong burner. You can use an external http://www.macsales.com/ burner which isn't as sensitive to the type of media that is installed and is compatible with all the same software.
Also, see http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia/ for a guide on the best media to use. The media brand you chose is one I've never heard of before.

  • Printing problem with printable DVD/CD

Does anyone have any idea why my Epson photo Stylus r300 printer is all of sudden not printing correctly on my printable media? I have printed may before but all of sudden they are coming out crooked. I use Epson print CD software and have tried different alignments but nothing changes when i go to print.
    Please help.

I solved it!! In Epson Print CD there are pull down menus and under file you go to "inner /outer diameter setting"where you can change the diameter to the dimensions to that of the DVD you are using. I got help from Epson thru a rep from a company called CDW who contacted Epson for me.(Otherwise, Ithey wouldn't help since my warranty has expired)
The Epson guy suggested that I create my DVD artwork in another program such as Photoshop or Apple Works and then import it as a background into Epson Print CD.( Rather than create in the Epson program itself) I think this helped a lot. I reset the print adjustment (also under File) to 00 and it now prints perfectly!!
Just thought this might help someone in the same predicament if they can understand what i have written. I find people so helpful here that i am trying to give back.

  • Using Canon for Printable DVDs

I've been told not to use stick on labels for DVDs.  I have a Canon iP6700D printer.  So I got the tray from eBay to use for printing DVDs.  I went through all the steps so the tray will fit into my printer and went through all the steps on the **** Printer website to change the printer mode so it will print on the DVDs.  I got a demo version of DiscLabel and tried to print a label but my printer keeps telling me "The inner cover is open, close the inner cover and press OK".  If I close the inner cover I can't put in the tray with the DVD.  I've done the page setup and selected Tray C as the 'Paper Size'.
Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong???  I would appreciate any help I can get.

    Copy/paste from the Canon manual:
Cautions When Printing on a Printable Disc
Be sure to use the disc tray supplied with this printer. It has a "G" on the upper side.
Do not print on printable discs that are not compatible with inkjet printing. The ink will not dry and may cause problems with the disc itself or devices which the disc is loaded onto.
Do not print on the printable discs' recording surface. Doing so will make data recorded on discs unreadable.
Hold the printable discs by their edges. Do not touch either the label surface (printing surface) or recording surface.
Remove any dirt from the disc tray before placing printable discs on the disc tray. Loading discs in a dirty disc tray may scratch the recording surface of the discs.
After printing, allow the printing surface of the disc to dry naturally. Do not use hairdryers or expose the disc to direct sunlight to dry the ink. Do not touch the printing surface until the ink has dried.
Do not attach the disc tray while the printer is in operation.
Do not remove the disc tray while printing on printable discs. Doing so may damage the printer, thedisc tray, or the disc.
Do not get dirt or scratches on the reflectors of the disc tray. The printer may not be able to recognize loading of the printable disc, or printing may become misaligned. If the reflectors on the disc traybecome dirty, wipe the reflector clean with a soft, dry cloth, taking care not to scratch the plate.
The disc tray may become dirty if software other than Easy-PhotoPrint EX is used.
Always use the supplied 3.15 inches (8 cm) disc adapter when printing on 3.15 inches (8 cm) printable discs.
Always close the inner cover after printing on printable discs.
To keep the print quality at an optimal level, it is recommended to stop printing discs once every ten discs when printing more than ten discs continuously.
To stop the printing operation, detach the disc tray from the printer, then close the inner cover. After approximately three minutes have elapsed, open the inner cover, attach the disc tray to the printer, then resume printing.

  • I am unable to print on a printable DVD even though there is a printable CD/DVD facility.

I am using an HP Photosmart C5280 All-in-One printer with a print to a printable CD/DVD option. However although I have downloaded the software to run the printer I have not got the option to print to a CD/DVD. Is there a software download which will enable me to print to a CD/DVD?

  • Is there a printable DVD label that will not cause my Super Drive to crash?

CD Stomper and Avery paper labels cause the Super Drive to: reject the CD/DVD disk; report that the disk is damaged/unreadable; or just grind to a halt. Replaced the iMac internal Super Drive - still has same problem. Disks were prepared using the Super Drive and play without problems until I put a label on and try to play it in the same Super Drive. Labeled disks work fine in LG and Panasonic DVD players connected to TVs.

Many thanks. Used an external LG super multi drive burner to put labels on DVDs using Lightscribe, but the contrast and label limitations (black-gray) are less than ideal. Noticed that Avery sells CD/DVD label packages with paper labels for about 40 CDs and 2 "film" labels for DVDs. Web site doesn't appear to have packages of just DVD "film" labels. Has anyone had success with "film" labels for DVDs?

  • Epson Printable DVD

I bought an Epson R280 printer that can print directly on the DVD. But when I try to print from Photoshop, it always comes out off centre. I tried to print
using the software that came with the printer which worked perfectly. But I prefer to use Adobe (photoshop, encore, etc.). Has anyone else had similar problems or know of solutions?

    R200 Epson Print CD 1.20A
Help file says you can use tif, but only if no lzw compression. It does not list psd. A psd gives a "could not load image message." The tifs give a message that is a bunch of question marks.
I tried a test, and could not import a tif. I was pretty sure the tif samples I had were uncompressed. but I checked, and discovered that one imported fine.
I created a tif with and without compression. The one with compression gives the "could not load image" message; the one without imported fine. Hmmm. I realized that the tifs I was using were PPro CS3 exports.
So my hypothesis is now that PPro exported tifs do not import; PS created tifs (uncompressed) do.

  • Recommendations for printers for printable DVDs?

    Hi,
I need to print labels for DVDs and am prepared to buy a printer to do the job.
There are several Epson printers that do the job starting with the R220. A friend has an Epson R800 and finds it very frustrating and time consuming to use.
The Canon Pixma printers can also do the job but in North America this functionality is disabled (but I believe can be enabled). In Canada the Canon Pixma ip4300 is specified as supporting printing to DVDs.
Any recommendations on printers to consider or avoid?

You might check out Discus for printing directly onto discs. You can download the demo version and give it a try.
    Do you Twango?

  • Best workflow for making dvds on printable disks

I am going to burn a few dvds and want to also use my printer to print some images onto the dvd itself.
I have printable dvd-r blanks, and will use idvd and my mac pro dvd drive to make and burn the dvds, but I am wondering which is the best sequence to do it in?
Do I burn the dvd first and then print on its surface, or do I print the surface first and then burn the dvd?
Will one way be better for avoiding burning or playback problems or does it make any difference?
    Thanks for any advice.

How do I use it if I want to burn another copy of my movie to a dvd in the future?
I use Toast to make all additional copies from a disc image (or from the finished dvd itself). But you can also use apple's disc utility just the same without the additional cost of any 3rd party software.
There is very little difference between a disc image and a finished /burned Dvd-R. Both are fully self-contained (complete with video_ts folder/s). Both respond exactly the same way when played with apple's dvd player app.
Yes you can go ahead and delete all prior iDvd and iMovie project files (assuming all is exactly the way you want the dvd to play now and to look like as far as menu selections, movies, titles, audio, and slideshows). But I personally would not delete any of the above files until I am 100% certain I will not need them again in the future (in terms of further modifications to an existing iMovie project especially). External HD space is rather cheap these days and I have a habit of keeping existing iMovie project files and if necessary archiving an existing iDvd project file which I'd rather not have on my boot volume but poses no problems on an ext. FW HD.

  • What blank DVD should I use? Tried Verbatim printable (as recommended)

Per Dec. 2005 post, I had same problem. i.e. freeze after 2-3 minutes on DVD player. Tried using Verbatim blank printables, DVD-R to no avail. Tried burning from Disk Image to no avail. Did repair in disk utilities.
Tried my usual Sony DVD-r (not printable and worked fine) . I plan on burning about 50-100 and need printable, so any recommendations? Can you buy larger quantities of Sony printables anywhere?
Thanks for any help. I told people these would be available the first of August!!!

    Beth,
You can't really control the burn speed in idvd but you can make a disk image and control it somewhat from that. read this from Ken Stone:
    Image to Disk
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/image_to_diskstone.html
Create a disk image in iDVD 6 and use Apple's Disk Utility or Roxio's Toast Titanium 7 to burn the image to writable media. They give you control over burn speed.
The only way to control burn speed in iDVD is use low speed media (if you can find it). Also using rewriteable media will lower the burn speed in iDVD to it's lowest level which I believe is 2x , that is assuming your own S-drive can address rewritable DVD-RW media. Hope this answers your questions.
