Printed colors do not match those on screen

I understand that display colors can vary greatly from those printed. I created a file in CS5 at 355 ppi from text and shapes, no photos. The colors are not printing the way I expect. Just checking to see if there might be a setting I may have wrong? I am using a Epson Stylus Photo R1800 printer to print on Epson Ultra Premium Luster Photo paper. The colors are printing much darker than displayed on my Mac.
My settings:
Profile: U.S. Web Coated (SWOP) v2
Under Convert to Profile in the Profile section: Working RGB - sRGB IEC61966-2.1
Thanks for any tips.

Stan,
If your final output is inkjet print, it is better to work in a larger RGB space, like AdobeRGB.  CMYK is specifically for four-color process press... like for magazines. Most all desktop inkjet printers are RGB devices: they use RGB numbers to print, not the CMYK info. If you are not intimately involved in the commercial offset printing world, stick to AdobeRGB (or even sRGB) as a working space. You can soft-proof to your destination (the Epson paper you mention) to see any color change.
So, with that in mind, follow the steps outlined in the Epson guide and Russell Brown's video I posted and see if choosing the correct settings in printing dialog makes a difference. (Also look into buying a calibration device. Proper Color Management begins with a good monitor profile.)
please post back.

EDIT
I am saving as a .PDF and printing from MAC OS Preview.
Just saw that. Do you have the correct paper chosen in the Print Settings? I don't have much experience trouble shooting Color Management problems printing from Preview. What happens when you print from Reader, Acrobat or Photoshop?

  • Printing with Canon printer, colors do not match at all... Help

Hello there, I have a Canon pixma 4300, every time I print somthing with a logo or a picture on it, the colors do not match.
Is anyone else having this problem?
Is there a new driver or a solution to this problem, this, seems to me, is really abnormal.

This is a common problem, and it is very hard to get a complete colour match, between any printer and the screen, due to the differing nature of the way both create their colours.
First off, you should check that your printer is properly calibrated with the correct ICC profile, and make sure your screen is also calibrated. Fur more info on this there is a PDF which explains it in more detail (Written for Tiger, but the principles are the same with Leopard.
    http://images.apple.com/pro/pdf/ColorMgmtinTiger.pdf
sRGB would be a good starting point, as most printers can handle this profile. Also, you did not mention how different the colours were? If for example yellow is printing an off yellow/brown or yellow/green, then it is definately the colour profile, if it is printing yellow as red, well then that is something else entirely.
Hope this helps, as chances are, the printer is not faulty, it just isnt set up right. Also, your images stand a better chance of printing correctly if they are created in the CMYK colourspace, not RGB. Especially true of logos.

  • With color management, color picker current color does not match canvas color

What gives here with color picker in CS3?
    RGB doc
    using color management/profiles
View>>proof color using my Epson RGB printer profile
    create box
double click fill box in palette box to view color picker
    pick color from spectrum area
    close color picker

double click fill box to view color picker
NOW current color does not match color on canvas, subtle but vexing color shift. So how can I use current color to pick a new color on the canvas is always different.

Peter, this is not the case. Placed image has embeded same color profile as is working space of document in ID. I tried the same with sRGB image placed in same ID document and compared it to PS but color shift (greenish) is present - it looks exactly the same.

  • New Apple Terms and Conditions do not match those on website

The new terms and conditions/privacy policy presented in the app store update window for iTunes do not match those currently on the website.
At least the dates don't match.  The app store shows: "Last Updated:September 30, 2012". The apple website has: "Last Updated: May 23, 2012".
I don't know what else is different because I can't select text in the app store update window.
The "Printable Version" link in the app store update window goes to same apple web page which, as I said, doesn't match what's displayed in the scroll box dialog.

I had a similar situation.  My credit card bill shows a charge on Sept 8 and Sept 9, both for $55.99.  I called Apple but they said that I was the victim of identity theft so I cancelled my credit card.  They have not refunded my money.

  • Color does not match printing in preview

Printing a photo directly from iPhoto ('08) does not match the color on screen. Using an Epson 2200.
The colors are dark and saturated. Maybe the problem is setting color management in the advanced dialog box- I have it set to: "No Color Adjustment" as per Epson.
Is there a setting that is recommended? I can't find any help in help.
I'm well aware of color management problems printing via Photoshop with the Epson printer.

    Hi McJPP,
You're using one of the built in color setups for Photoshop, so no big deal there. Since you have your monitor properly calibrated and profiled, ColorSync shouldn't be having an issue handling the difference between the image's color space and your monitor's. Questions though. Is the image RGB? Does it have an embedded profile? If so, is it Adobe RGB 1998? I'm assuming that it does since that's your working RGB color space in Photoshop.
The grab on the left is the preview copy using:
By preview, do you mean the Preview button on the print dialogue box at the bottom left next the the PDF button? I'm guessing yes since I can produce the same kind of result. It's a bit hard to explain, but I'll try.
I took a simple grayscale image and made it RGB. I then did the same thing you did. Left image is Photoshop handling color for an Epson Stylus Pro 4000, using a profile I made for a DuPont paper. Then clicking the Preview button when the print dialogue comes up. Right image is letting the printer handle color and clicking Preview. The result is below.
Believe it or not, there's nothing wrong. Photoshop (more accurately, ColorSync) is showing you what it had to do to the pixel color values to adjust for how the inks perform on the chosen paper. The end result, with proper profiles, is that the printed image looks like what you see in Photoshop regardless of how it shows in Preview mode. The Epson driver doesn't make this visible cue even though you've turned ColorSync on there, so it simply shows you the same thing you see in Photoshop, even though it's making the same adjustment to the pixel color values.
You should get essentially the same final output no matter which way you print the image.

  • Why does Photoshop Elements 10 print dark and red, and not match the computer screen?

I switched from Photoshop Elements 7 to Photoshop Elements 10.  I cannot get a print of a photo that matches the screen.  Photos are dark and red.  I cannot edit the photos because I do not know what will print out.   I have switched back to Photoshop 7 and my photos print fine, just as they have been edited.  I have spent hours on the Chat line with Adobe.  They have yet to help me resolve this problem.  Does anyone else have this problem or know what to do?  Adobe sure doesn't. I feel I have wasted money and am afraid to ever upgrade again.

If you are using Photoshop Elements Editor for printing then make sure you have handled the color management of PSE correctly.
There are two different scenario available in PSE to handle color management.
Scenario 1 (When printer manages color). If you're known and familiar to your printer profile, the type of paper you are using and if you have any other customization done for your printer profile then in this case please select Printer Manages Color in Color Handling drop down under color management of PSE.
To achieve this, follow these following steps.
    1. Launch Print dialog.
    2. Click on "More Options..." button.
    3. Now select Color management.
    4. Here you can see the Color Handling drop down. Please select Printer Manages Color.
Note:- Use this scenario when you are sure a about your printer profile and settings.
Scenario 2 (When Photoshop Elements handle color). In case you want PSE to handle all color management then please select Photoshop Elements Manages Color in Color Handling drop down. Then select the same printer profile as Image space.
Note:- If you are using this option, make sure the color management of your Printer is off.
    Hope this will help you.

  • Casio projector colors do not match colors on Macbook air screen, casio projector colors do not match colors on Macbook air screen

When I hook my MacBook Air to a Casio projector, the sky blue colors on the Macbook screen look purple on the projector image.  It occurs whether I use a VGA or HDMI connector to display port so it can't be the cable.  I tried adjusting colors in the display preferences and on the projector. Doesn't help.  Any other ideas?

There is one point which nobody have made mention of, which also is something anyone who works in print should know about.
The first thing to know is that there are some Green and Red Pantones that are IMPOSSIBLE to reproduce on screen because of the limitation of the RGB gamut. (The RGB of screens can only reproduce a bit more than 60% of the real-life colors and around 50% of the Pantone are situated inside the remaining missing 40%. Almost EVERY Pantone, on your charts, that are situation on the 2 top and 2 bottom positions are not reproducible on screen.)
So, it's always normal that some Pantone never look the same between a screen and the Pantone chart even if the screen is calibrated in the best ways and that is why you uses a Pantone chart. The Pantone chart isn't just a "decision" tool, but also a "preview" tool so that you can see the exact final color regardless of what's on screen.
If that is not working with your workflow, then it simply means that your workflow is flawed as it's how it has been made to be. It's not a choice, but a limitation of physics with computer hardware which you have to live with as a professional.

  • Printed PDF does not match what is on screen

Not sure this is the right place to post (have just posted on Adobe's equivalent of this - belt and braces), but I am having an issue with PDFs when printed vs. what they look like on screen.
In short, when they are printed, it is as if there are some margins someplace that result in the printed image being reduced in size. I do not know if this is an issue with Acrobat Reader 5 on OSX, an issue with how Reader is reading the PDF, or what, so ideas would be welcome.
The PDF's are being created in Illustrator 9.x running under Classic and there are no margins coming through from that application (they have been removed, just in case). I know that upgrading to OSX versions would be smart, but it is very expensive and the PDF, if it lives up to its name. ought to behave properly!
I am looking at this MO, because my OS9 compatible printer died recently and there are no drivers for OS9 for the new one, so i cannot (reliably) print directly from the OS9 apps to the new printer, hence going via PDF. The problem was present with the old printer as well, but as I could go direct from the apps to that, it didn't matter.
Happy to clarify further if needed.

Try using the "classic" PrintToPDF @ http://www.jwwalker.com/pages/pdf.html
This way you will be creating a PDF file using classic instead of OS X's Print To PDF.
     Cheers, Tom

  • PS Elements 11 -- Incorrect Colors, color painted not matching color selected -- Help please!

Having a really odd issue with colors. The color that I have in my brush/paint bucket does not match the color that I picked up in my eye dropper/foreground color. Instead it paints out some diluted version of the color I'm using, and I have no idea why. I tried to look up a solution -- I reset the paint brush, all of the tools. And I have no layer styles set on said layers used.
Any ideas how I could fix this? I need too desperately.. And as a side note, I am using RGB for color.

Suggest that you reset the brush tool. On the tool's option bar, look for this:
Click on it to reset the tools. If that does not fix it, go to Edit>Preferences>General and look for for this:
Click on it, close PSE, then open the program.

  • IWeb photos color do not match with the same posted on the internet

    Hello,
my question is about the quality of the images posted by iWeb on the internet.
Yesterday, I sucessfully published a simple page with two images, and the color of them was faded compared to the images showing on the iWeb application.
I used the 'Adjust' panel to increase the color, and after published again, but althought the images were more expressive, they still did not match the equivalent in iWeb application, continued not so vivid.
    What might that be?
More or less a month ago, I also published images and the colors matched perfectly with the material seen in the iWeb application.

I have placed two comparison examples in my file sharing folder.
Maybe it might help explain what I am experiencing. The differences may be subtle but they exist.
For my file sharing the address is
    http://homepage.mac.com/hito_/Menu4.html
    Maybe this might help.

    That should work.
You'd just have to forward the messages manually, one by one, as far as I know (there may be a way to script it but I'm not too keen on AppleScript).
