Printer and Network connection between imac and PC (Wireless)

Hi All
I Have connected successfully to the internet via my imac through airport as has my pc through a wireless network card. But my problem is sharing files, networking between the two computers, it doesn't want to happen!!
And i am unable to print through the imac, the printer is linked up to the PC via a USB. The imac and PC are both connected to a wireless router/modem.
Would like some advise on these issues. Any suggestions welcome!
Cheers.

Everything I know about a mixed Mac/PC network, I learned from iFelix and Joel Shoemaker. They both have fabulous sites that go through the process step-by-painful-step.
As far as the printer sharing goes, it took me a while to get it right, but I ended up using both the files found here and got it to work. Of course it was an HP printer, but there are others located here for other brand printers.
Good luck and let us know how things turn out.

    Hi,

    Hello,
Please try and search the forums before posting, as the topic of sharing files between Macs and PCs have been covered hundreds of times in this forum. You can save yourself time in getting the answers yourself rather than waiting for a response.
These links should get you started. You can also find instructions in your Mac own built in Help files accessible via the Help menu.

  • HT1631 How  can I share and sync passwords between  iMac and iPad

I'm in password ****!!!!  My memory is not what I once was and managing passwords on my iMac and iPad is making me crazy.  The iMac is the home planet at work for the iPad and it use it all day... the iPad is my device of choice when at home.
The value of a strong password cannot be understated in these times!!!!
Is there an easy way to sync passwords between the two.  I find I spend way to much time  resetting passwords because I simply cannot remember them.
Again... and again... and again... is the story of my life.

    The following may help:
If you are using Safari on both devices and you have iOS 7.0.3 or later on the iPad and OS X Mavericks 10.9 or later on the Mac, iCloud Keychain may be what you want: iCloud: Frequently asked questions about iCloud Keychain
There are other options available with 3rd party software. Two popular ones are https://lastpass.com and https://agilebits.com/onepassword

  • Printer on network shared between PC and Mac

Thanks to this forum I managed to establish an Airport Extreme network with:
    Airport Extreme Base station,
Netgear router with 4 ethernet hub,
    iBook G4 (connecting through Airport)
iMac G5 (connecting through ethernet! because the signal is too low in my study)
    HP laptop (connecting wirelessly)
HP Laserjet 2100TN connected via the Netgear router/ethernet hub.
(this printer has no USB-connection, but ethernet or parallel and possibly infrared but I've never used that).
I can print from my iMac G5 this way, but not from my iBook.
When i plug the printer via ethernet into the Airport Extreme Base station, the iBook can print, but the iMac G5 no longer!
In both set-ups, the HP does not find the printer.
What can I do to print from all three computers?

Hi, if you haven't fixed it yet, try this: go into printers on the hp, select add new printer, and select TCP/IP port for the new printer. If it doesn't show that as an option, click on add new port, then add TCP/IP, and you will have to know the IP address for the printer (look in the router's settings for it), put it in as the address for the printer and click o.k.. This should allow your hp to see and print to the printer with no problems. Sometimes if you try to print from a win pc thru the airport usb print server port, you have to change the "bi-directional" checkbox in the setup settings on the pc printer (specific) or it will print, and then when you go to print another job, it thinks the printer is busy. I don't know why this happens, but if you uncheck your bi-directional setting, it will always print fine from the win pc thru the airport, if it is connected to the usb printer port on the airport base station. If you are printing to it thru ethernet it is not a problem. Don't change the setting at all if you are printing to an IP address thru ethernet. Good Luck

  • Direct network connection between MacBook and a PC with a switch

I have a MacBook in my home and a PC. There is a router connected to the internet in a house nearby. A cable comes from there to my house. At my house I have an 8-port 100 Mb switch. The PC is connected to the switch with a cable. There is a DLink 2000AP connected to the switch, so I am connected to the network wirelessly. All the cabling in my house is good, I mean both the PC and the wifi access point have got very good cable connecting to the switch. But the switch is connected to the router in the other house with a very bad cable (I suspect it is just some kind of phone cable). this cable seems o be enough for the internet but not for 100 Mb network.
Now I have a big hard drive connected to the PC, I made it shared, so I can mount it on my MacBook. But the problem is that the speed of transferring data between the Macbook and PC is really low (around 0.5 MB/s). I suspect that it is because when sending data the Mac sends it first to the router which has got such bad cable and then only to the PC. In this way the data comes through the bad cable twice. But if I could set it up in such a way that the data goes only through the switch (without going to the router), then no data would go throught the bad cables to the router and everything will be very fast. so, my humble question would be whether it is possible to say to computers or router that the info should be set via switch and not the router.
Thanks a lot for your help.

You are correct Since you do not have your wireless network set up for a machine-to-machine connection, all data is going to your wireless access point, then up the bad cable to the router, back down the bad cable to your other computer. To quote an old cliche, this chain is only as strong as its weakest link.
You can connect, via ethernet cables, the Mac and the PC directly through a switch or hub. This should by-pass the need of the data to go up through the router. However, my experience is that sometimes the computers can get confused with this type of setup, not knowing what route to take.
Maybe someone else has a better solution, other than replacing the line to the router with a much better cable or a point-to-point wireless solution.

  • No connection between iMac and air-express time out default

My imac cannot support my airexpress, give the message time out

My own diagnosis is that the modem is not compatible with time capsule but I'd like to have a confirmation on this.
It would really help us if you could provide the manufactuer and model number of your modem.
it's possible that another user reading this post may have the same modem and be able to help, or we can check to get specifications and support documentation online if we know what you have. As of now, I'm afraid that we know nothing.

You need to turn on Printer Sharing on both the PC and OS X. I can't help you on Vista but in OS X it's System Preferences - Sharing - check the Printer Sharing box.

  • Trouble using AirPlay between iMac and AppleTV

I'm running OS X Lion 10.7.5 and I'm having trouble using AirPlay between iMac and AppleTV (2nd Gen).  It used to work fine, but for some reason it just stopped responding.  I can see my media on my iMac from AppleTV and I can see AppleTV from my iMac when attempting to use AirPlay.  However, when I try to pull or push media from my iMac to AppleTV it just stalls and never loads.  AirPlay works fine from my iPhone and iPad with AppleTV - it's limited to my iMac only.
I'm using a Netgear R7000 wireless router and a Netgear AC120 WiFi Extender and as such, I have 4 available wireless networks (2 from the router and 2 from the extender / 2 - 2.4 GHz and 2 - 5 GHz).  My internet access is great and my network performance is good across the board.  All of my software/firmware is up to date (iMac, AppleTV and router/extenders). I've tried all combinations (mixing/matching) all of my wireless networks between devices (iMac/AppleTV) - nothing makes a difference (again, AirPlay works fine between my mobile devises/AppleTV).  Netgear Genie has been making changes to my network settings as new firmware has been installed in both the router and extender.  I'm guessing there is something screwy going on with the network settings on the iMac, but I can't figure it out.
    Anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks!

I'm glad you got it all working. Out of interest, how do you (or your son) connect to the internet now? Is it just a dial-up connection? If it is, I am sure you know that, even if you get the Apple TV to share the connection, the speed will seriously limit the use of many of the Apple TV's features.
The Airport Extreme is a great router but you will need a DSL or cable modem as well as it won't connect to the internet without one. There are many great (and cheaper!) combined modem/routers available if your son wants to get a high-speed network up and running at lower cost. Any other computers, phones, games consoles etc that you may have in the house can then all connect easily.
I hope that I have helped a little and I will look out for future posts in case I can help again.

  • Novice trying to connect between office and home MACs

    Advice for system novice
trying to connect between office and home MACs
Office MAC OSX 10.2.8 (also runs classic mode)
G4 Computer in the office (only mac in office all others are PC)
I need to connect home computer
IMAC OSX 10.4 Tiger. Connecting via cable modem and have router
I do not have good networking skills, i this something that is doable myself or should I call in a pro?

    It's doable.
But at home you need to find the "outside" IP that the Internet sees, not the one you see on that machine.
    what's my ip...
    http://www.whatsmyip.org/
Then you'll need to "Forward Ports" on the home router so incoming stuff knows where to go.
Then you'll need to enable the Services you wish to use on both machines.

  • Handoff: No connection between iPad and iPhone

Handoff: No connection between iPad and iPhone (IOS 8).

    Hi raydela,
I understand your calls aren't being transferred between devices.
Check out the troubleshooting in this article.

If a call doesn't transfer to your other devices, or you don't see the Handoff icons
Make sure that your devices are using iOS 8 or later by going to Settings > General > Software Update.
    Check your settings:
Go to Settings > Wi-Fi and turn on Wi-Fi if necessary.
Go to Settings > Bluetooth and turn on Bluetooth if necessary.
Make sure your iOS devices are connected to the same Wi-Fi network by going to Settings > Wi-Fi and comparing the name of the network each is on.
Go to Settings > General > Handoff & Suggested Apps and turn on Handoff.
Go to Settings > Phone and turn off Wi-Fi Calling.

  • How to i connect my imac and my macbook so there doncuments are up to date

how do i connect my imac and my macbook so they are in sync and up to date with the same documents?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
There isn't a way to connect both Macs with a cable to keep your documents updated on them. However, if you need all your documents updated on both Macs, you can use a cloud service as iCloud or Dropbox to sync your documents. Preferably, I recommend Dropbox because it can sync all type of files between both computers > http://www.dropbox.com
Another thing you can do is to buy an external disk and put your documents here

  • Heterogeneous connection between Oracle and Postgres.

    Hi All,
I'm trying to make an heterogeneous connection between Oracle and Postgres since few days but i still having this error : "lost RPC connection".
First of all : I'm using Windows 7, Oracle 10g and PostgreSQL 8.4.
I have done the following operations :
    1) Create a System DNS named "PG". (Test connection is OK)
    2) Create the file "initPG.ora" in "$ORACLE_HOME/hs/admin" :
    # This is a sample agent init file that contains the HS parameters that are
    # needed for an ODBC Agent.
    # HS init parameters
    HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = PG
    HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = ON
    # Environment variables required for the non-Oracle system
    #set <envvar>=<value>
    3) Configure the file "listener.ora" (in "$ORACLE_HOME/NETWORK/ADMIN") :
    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
    (SID_LIST =
         (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME = PLSExtProc)
    (ORACLE_HOME = C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server)
    (PROGRAM = extproc)
    (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME = CLRExtProc)
    (ORACLE_HOME = C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server)
    (PROGRAM = extproc)
         (SID_DESC =
    (SID_NAME = PG)
    (ORACLE_HOME = C:\oraclexe\app\oracle\product\10.2.0\server)
    (PROGRAM = hsodbc)
    LISTENER =
    (DESCRIPTION_LIST =
    (DESCRIPTION =
         (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC_FOR_XE))
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Cédric-PC)(PORT = 1521))
    DEFAULT_SERVICE_LISTENER = (XE)
    4) Configure the file "tnsnames.ora" (in "$ORACLE_HOME/NETWORK/ADMIN") :
    XE =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = Cédric-PC)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVER = DEDICATED)
    (SERVICE_NAME = XE)
    PG =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = tcp)(HOST = Cédric-PC)(PORT = 1521))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SERVICE_NAME = PG)
    (HS = OK)
    EXTPROC_CONNECTION_DATA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC_FOR_XE))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = PLSExtProc)
    (PRESENTATION = RO)
    ORACLR_CONNECTION_DATA =
    (DESCRIPTION =
    (ADDRESS_LIST =
    (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = IPC)(KEY = EXTPROC_FOR_XE))
    (CONNECT_DATA =
    (SID = CLRExtProc)
    (PRESENTATION = RO)
    5) Finally, i create my DB-Link and test it :
    CREATE DATABASE LINK "CENTRALE_POSTGRES" CONNECT TO "user_login" IDENTIFIED BY "user_password" USING 'PG';
    SELECT * FROM "dual"@CENTRALE_POSTGRES;
    I got this error :
    ORA-03135 : lost RPC connection.
As you can see, i have activated the trace level (HS_FDS_TRACE_LEVEL = ON), but the directory "$ORACLE_HOME/NETWORK/trace" still empty.
    Any ideas ?
    Regards

the tnsnames.ora alias PG is wrong - you need to have 2 closing brackets after the SERVICE_NAME so that HS=OK is outside of the CONNECT_DATA like:
    PG =
    <space>(DESCRIPTION =
    <space><space>(ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = tcp)(HOST = Cédric-PC)(PORT = 1521))
    <space><space>(CONNECT_DATA =
    <space><space><space>(SERVICE_NAME = PG))
    <space><space>(HS = OK)
    <space>)
Please be also aware HSODBC up to release 10.2 has been desupported since March 2008 and it was replaced by its follow up product DG4ODBC V11

  • Solution for connection between BODS and WCF web service ?

    Hi,
we have a unique requirement of connecting BODS to WCF webservice. This web service acts as a layer for connection between proprietary databases (secured) and other external systems. Queries are to be sent to this web service in order to fetch data from proprietary databases.
In order to connect to these web services, we should also provide Address, Binding and contract whose details are already present with us.
Example of web service address:     net.tcp://op12345:10101/sd
I heard Adapters are the best way of connecting to the above web service, could you please provide some guidance on connecting through adapters if it is the best solution.
Could someone suggest the best possible approach(ASAP) to bring connection between BODS and web services and to execute the above requirement.
Please let me know in case of any more information.
    Regards
