Printer asking for CMYK numbers?

I sent a client a PDF for a postcard design which was printed a few months ago, no problems there. Apparently, the business has been using my design for other projects, which is fine, but now he is telling me that the printer needs the CMYK numbers that I used in the design to print something. I have never had anyone ask for the CMYK numbers for a design ever. I always thought that this information was part of the PDF document. I know there are a couple options when saving, i.e. converting to destination. I usually just select "No Conversion". I tried to Google this question with different wording several times, with no answers on how to send someone the CMYK numbers used in a document. Is this printer clueless, or am I doing something wrong?

Be careful.  Clients who use your file for other purposes other than what they were billed for is violating your copyrights and usage rights.  Now, let's say you created a CMYK swatch in the original file for a logo, headline, or any other element in the original file. For instance, let's say it was a 40%C, 100%Y swatch ( lime green ). They may not necessarily be able to extract that specific color from the PDF and, therefore, need the original CMYK numbers from your original Illustrator file.  The client is creating a derivative work from your original while, at the same time, bypassing you assuming exclusive and unlimited usage rights.  This is actually a common breach of copyright and ownership rights.  Look over your original invoice or estimate and, if it states they have unlimited usage rights, they cannot copy or use your file ( unless you were under a work-for-hire agreement ).

  • Why would a commercial printer ask for Illustrator native files instead of InDesign files?

Why would a commercial printer ask for Illustrator native files instead of InDesign files?
For example, We create 32 hang tags for the same brand. Each hang tag looks identical except for a color bar calling out the different fits. We set the files up in InDesign with a Master Page congaing all the similar artwork. This process saves us a lot of time when making changes to the entire package of hang tags. So my question is... why can't the printer use InDesign. They are saying they convert our InDesign files to Illustrator before printing.

A printer who insists on native files but can't take InDesign is not properly equipped. It suggests they haven't updated their capabilities in 15 years.

  • Asking for serial numbers

Aperture started asking for a serial number to be entered after having used it for the last 6 months or so. I posted some questions regarding this under the Aperture discussions, no insight yet.
Now soundtrack is asking for serial numbers despite my having used soundtrack for a good length of time. I'm seeing a pattern starting to form and am wondering if there might be more of an OS issue in general as opposed to one application.
Any insight as to why Apple products are randomly prompting about once a week or so for serial numbers? It didn't used to do this and they've worked great. They still work fine after inputting the serial number again. And again.
Its not a big deal to put in the serial number, more of a pain than anything. But I'd sure like to nip this in the bud if possible. Could something be going on with keychain? Or does keychain have anything to do with serial numbers for apple apps?
Any insight is appreciated. I do have all current software updates installed and have run the diskmanager to check for permissions issues, got those resolved (weren't many) and it is still asking about once a week for serial numbers on Aperture and Soundtrack.
    Thanks

I started a while back in the Aperture area for the Aperture stuff. Now that it is also happening with soundtrack, I'm wondering if there might be some issue that is outside of the individual app and more of an OS issue as opposed to an individual app.
I'm not sure if the serial numbers are stored in a central location or if they are app dependent

  • I have an active creative cloud subscription, yet I am still being asked for serial numbers?

I have an active creative cloud subscription, yet I am still being asked for serial numbers. How do I proceed?

How did you download the software? For Creative Cloud, you should download from http://creative.adobe.com (which will install through an application called AAM). If you have a trial installation, and bought Creative Cloud, that could be the cause.

  • Asked for CMYK and got SD/SP-codes

I am not sure I got the right category. If not I am so sorry!
I asked my customer for CMYK-codes. They d
ont know what I am talking about, and just sent me some color codes, they got from the printing bureau. Now I am the one whom dont know what they are talking about.... I got:  "Red/Orange - SD30014" - please help, what color scheme is that? How can I transfer it safely to web (NOT interested in websafe colors tho!!!!)? Hov can I calc the other colors as well?
    Kind regards
    Lone J

OK. First Photoshop Elements DOESN'T support CMKY color management. Never did. This is one of the primary reasons for upgrading to Photoshop itself, because of the publishing abilities of that professional category product. CMKY color management is used to interface digital image files with printer's inks, along with (generally) "Pantone" inks color swatches
Second, your post is bordering on incoherent, at least to me. First you're talking about customers giving you CMKY codes, then you're talking about the web. It could be me, who knows? Feel free to wait for a second opinion, you won't hurt my feelings.
IMHO, this post is possibly incorrectly directed. If you do have Photoshop itself, then this should go to that forum; http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop and then the appropriate OS (Windows or Mac) sub-forum. That said, it still might be a bit too cryptic to get your point across accurately.
Or perhaps, someone with more experience in the CMKY color space will be able to interpolate your intended meaning. Read between the lines, so to speak.

  • I have a canon MX7600 multifunction printer. My security setting allow connection with the printer. If I disable the firewall it works fine. If the firewall is running I get a dialog box every time I print asking for permission. How do I fix this?

I have a canon MX 7600 multifunction printer. Each  time I print I get a dialog box asking for permission to allow connections to the printer. This box stays on my screen for a few seconds, if I don't click allow I get a communication error which then requires me to delete the job and start over. I contacted Canon and proceeded with their suggestions to no avail. They now say it is an Apple issue. My security settings are set to allow connection to the canon printer. If I disable the firewall it works fine, once I enable the firewall the problem returns.  This issue is a royal pain. Any suggestions on how to fix it short of buying a new printer?

        jsavage9621,
It pains me to hear about your experience with the Home Phone Connect.  This device usually works seamlessly and is a great alternative to a landline phone.  It sounds like we've done our fair share of work on your account here.  I'm going to go ahead and send you a Private Message so that we can access your account and review any open tickets for you.  I look forward to speaking with you.

  • Trying to connect wireless printer, asking for password for time capsule?

Trying to connect new wireless printer and it's asking for my password for my time capsule.  I don't remember that I had entered one initially, but maybe I did and just forgot.  Any way to retrieve a password for time capsule?

Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utilities > AirPort Utility
Click on the Time Capsule icon, then click on Edit in the small window
Click the Base Station menu at the uppermost top of the computer screen up where the Help, File, Window, etc menus appear
    Click Show Passwords

  • Outline Print out for bullets & numbering

    Hi,
In RoboHelp my default bullets have a left margin of say "0",
but when I generate the print version they have a margin of say
    "1". It looks like this:
    1. xyz
    * xyz
    SSL Print out
    1. xyz
    * xyz
Any ideas for a permanent fix?

For anyone else the answer is:
The margin settings for the numbered list can be tweaked by
editiing the Lists style in RH (Format > Styles > Lists >
    Modify > Format > Paragraph >Indentation).
If you don't see "Lists" as a style, make sure the box (Hide
Inherited Styles), below the available styles is not checked, then
    it should show up.

  • HP printer asks for my WEP password...

for wireless set and I put it in and it fails. It has to be the correct password because the Mac asked for it to configure the printer and it took it but the "wireless wizard" rejects it. Any way I can find out for sure what the WEP password is for my Airport?

i think it has got a pending download that is needed some apple id or password that is perhaps not the apple id you are signed in on.  go to the app store and see if there is something in limbo.
also check settings, store, and make sure your apple id is there.
Altenately, there may be some app trying to do something, but needs you to 'log in' to complete it's taks.
check the app store first to see if it is there.  then check your apple id in settings store.  Then fully close everything you can by double tapping the home key to see the task bar, touch and hold any of those icons until they jiggle, the close them all off by touching the minus sign.
lastly, if it has not stopped yet, turn off any mail accounts.
If it goes away, start turning stuff back on ntil you find the culprit.

  • PDF Printing asking for user id and password

    Hi all,
We are using SAP Integrated ITS 640 . We have configured the PDF printing device as mentioned in the SAP Note #  771683 . We have configured SSO in portal  for r/3 system and SSO works fine in portal for Internet services configured in backend but  when i give print by selecting PDF printer as output device, ITS is prompting for r/3 user id and password at that time to view the PDF. Once i give r/3 user id and password ,i am able to view the PDF.
I found out that when PDF popup window opens it opens the HTTP url and not with the HTTPS url configured in the System configuration in portal. I feel this is the reason why i have been asked to enter user id and password. So could any one please let me know how to configure in R/3 backend to use the https url for PDF printing.
    Thanks,
    Vasu

    Hi Klaus,
I checked the OSS note you have referred. We already are into SAP_BASIS patch level 18 and kernel patch level is 156 . Also i checked the RFC
    RSPO_FRONT_DISPLAY_JOB
mentioned in the note . In that RFC i already have  BASE_URL parameter included in import parameter with note # OSS 957292 in short text. Pls let me know how to proceed further.
    Thanks / Regards

  • Network printing asking for authentication

    Greetings.
I am responsible for managing a number of Mac-based labs and user laptops in a school district environment.
I have recently upgraded my XServe to OS X 10.5 Server, and the client machines have been upgraded to 10.5 as well.
The OS X Server machine handles management only; network user authentication is handled by Active Directory running on a Windows 2003 server.
All users have mobile network accounts.
This issue I'm having is this: When printing to a networked printer whose queue resides on another Windows print server machine (any non-Bonjour printer), the user is prompted to authenticate with their network username and password.
It's not terribly detrimental since once they enter their username and password, the print job goes through, but I'm just really wondering why this is happening all of the sudden.
Last year, I did have a number of 10.5 machines that were being managed by a 10.4 server, and as far as I know, this prompt never came up.
Any advice would be much appreciated. Thank you kindly!

Create an SM50 trace with only the security component turned to trace level 2. In order to do so, run transaction SM50 and select some of the dialog work processes (around 5). Then choose 'Processes -> Trace -> Active components' from the menu (or use CTRL-SHIFT-F7). Set the trace level to 2 and select only the 'Security' component. Reproduce the SSO problem, and note the time. Return to the SAP system to check the traces you just started (CTRL-SHIFT-F8 in SM50). This trace collects information on work process level. Therefore, you need to find the work process that has handled the authentication attempt.
This procedure is described in Note 495911 in more detail.

  • Keeps asking for serial numbers after I joined Creative Cloud for students

    This question was solved.

    Hi donsawatzky,
I wanted to send you threads of solutions to your very issue, so that you can view them and maybe the same resolution can help you:
There are others as well that you can find by searching 'proxy' at the ePrint page of the forums.
Here are a few steps I have listed to help you enable web services and setup ePrint:
Restore the network defaults under the Network menu of your printer.
Run the wireless setup wizard to join your printer to your wireless network.
Try to enable web services again.
    If this is unsuccessful:
Restore the factory defaults under the Tools menu of your printer.
Run the wireless setup wizard to join your printer to your wireless network.
Try to enable web services again.
If I have solved your issue, please feel free to provide kudos and make sure you mark this thread as solution provided!
