Printer cannot connect at port 9600

Hello,
OS 10.5.6
I have a Laser Jet directly connected to one computer with an ethernet cable. The IP address and default gateway are set at 192.168.1.15 and the subnet mask is at 255.255.255.0.
When I try to print there is an error which says :
"Attempting to connect to host NPIC86923.local. on port 9100
Unable to connect to printer will try in 30 seconds."
All the addresses seem right, the printer shows up and the driver is the newest from HP for OS 10.5
Ideas?
Thanks, Garrett

The printer's assigned IP address cannot be the same as your network's default gateway address. Typically the router's gateway address might be 192.168.1.1. The router may serve addresses between 192.168.1.2 and 192.168.1.199. The printer's IP address must then be somewhere within that range.
If the printer supports DHCP then it would be preferable to configure the printer to use DHCP rather than trying to assign the TCP/IP parameters manually.
Open Network preferences on the computer and select the Ethernet port. The displayed information will provide the Router or Gateway IP address for your network.
Select Mac Help from the Finder's Help menu and search for "add printer" to locate the help articles on adding and configuring a printer.

    Hello youssi,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand when you scan to email you're receiving a message stating cannot connect to server. I will do my best to assist you! Please follow this entire HP document on How to Scan: From the Control Panel (Including Scan to Email, to a PDF, and to a Network Folder) just to make sure everything is correct.
If this doesn't work, then please follow these steps to try setting an alternative DNS to see if that resolves the issue:
    •    Open the Embedded Web Sever on your computer.
    •    Click the Network tab.
    •    Under Wireless click on IPv4.
    •    Under DNS Address Configuration select Manual.
    •    Set the Preferred address as 8.8.8.8
    •    Set the Alternate address as 8.8.4.4
    •    Click Apply twice to confirm the change.
    •    Turn the printer Off and back On and see if the issue is resolved.
Please post your results, as I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Have a great night!

  • Printer cannot connect to server

    Hi,
I have recently purchased a HP 6510a and it says successfully connected to my network. I've printed out the reports as outlined in the support pages and had passes. Downloaded the Scan and Print doctor and troubleshooting software to no avail. It has a static IP address assigned in my router.
I have connected the printer to my main machine with a USB and all is fine, but when searching for it from my other machine linked wirelessly it cannot find printer (also main machine cannot convert to use wireless - same issue). I then tried to go into ePrint on printer and check for firmware updates, but that says 'cannot connect to server'. Is there some port I need to unblock in my router, or something?
    Thanks,
    Paul.

Let's set a static IP address AND an external DNS for the printer:
    - Print a Network Config Page from the front of the printer. Note the printer's IP address.
    - Type that IP address into a browser to reveal the printer's internal settings.
    - Choose the Networking tab, then Wireless along the left side, then the IPv4 tab.
    - On this screen you want to set a Manual IP. You need to set an IP address outside the range that the router automatically sets (called the DHCP range). If you do not know the range, change the last set of numbers (those after the last '.') to 250
    - Use 255.255.255.0 for the subnet (unless you know it is different, if so, use that)
    - Enter your router's IP (on the Network Config Page) for the gateway.
    - Enter 8.8.8.8 for the first DNS and 8.8.4.4 for the second DNS. This is Google DNS. You can choose another external DNS if you wish.
    - Click 'Apply'.
Your antivirus software/firewall could be getting in the way, here.
Say thanks by clicking "Kudos" "thumbs up" in the post that helped you.

  • Cannot connect to port 25 externally and owa is not working

    Hi all,
just finished installing exchange 2013 and all went well.   Internally, everything works perfectly.   However, I then moved my testing externally.   Browsing to https://mydomain/owa times out - as does https://mydomain/ecp
Also, I cannot telnet to my mail server either:  telnet mydomain 25 times out.  I can though telnet mydomain 143 and telnet mydomain 110 no problem.
I have setup the receive connector as per the instructions (in fact, it was already setup) the frontend default allows anonymous access (as it should).  Windows firewall is off.  Router forwarding ports fine.
I can telnet 25 locally and as I said, everything works internally.    Clearly, there is another step that has to be taken to allow external access to the port 25 and also for owa and ecp.  I have double checked the SERVERS - VIRTUAL
DIRECTORIES area and all the external url are correct.  Can someone help please?

Ok, I rechecked my router page by page and have found one solution .. .the https management page of the router defaults to 443 - so have changed that to 4443, rebooted router and can now access my http://mydomain/owa - so that is good.  However, still
cannot telnet to port 25 on the exchange server from external.  The port forwarding is definitely correct for port 25.
I have rechecked the receive connector:  MAIL FLOW -  RECEIVE CONNECTORS - DEFAULT FRONTEND SERVER
and under security - anoymous users is checked.   That SHOULD let me connect yes?  But it does not.
Where else does this need to be changed - can you advise?
    regards

Select a different outgoing mail server from the list below or click Try Later to leave the message in your Outbox until it can be sent.
    Sending from: [email protected]

I use port 26 to send. Receiveing is mail.mydomain.com
OSX recently updated. Could that of screwed up my settings or broke something?

  • Printer cannot connect to server issue

hp office jet 6500a plus ,windows 7, trying to e print from an app and my printer thats wireless says it cannot connect to server

For those who are experiencing ongoing issues with their web services, you can attempt to try the following steps that may
    help resolve your problems.
1.) Completely shut down your printer and restart it
2.) If you have prints that have not printed, log into ePrint Center (or create an account if you do not have one) and
then look for your printer status. If printer status is green but you still have pending jobs, delete the pending jobs one at
a time (Starting with the oldest first). There may be a print job stuck in the queue that further restricts other jobs from
    completing.
    a. If option 1 or 2 above still doesn’t work, removing web services and re-adding web services will cause the printer to
    reattach to the cloud.
    b. Please note that if you attempt option 3, you will get a new eprint email address (and lose your custom one with no
ability to get it back) furthermore, you will need to re-add your printer back to your ePC account.

  • Server error, cannot connect to port 110

    Hello Support,
I'm trying to set up a mail account but can't connect to port 110. The mail account works on my old powerbook. I've tried changing the settings to 111, 125 etc. No luck.
    What am I doing wrong???
    Please help...

I'd call your ISP and go through your settings with them. It's likely that something in your setup is incorrect, or they changed their server to require new settings recently.

  • Printer cannot connect to the server when "checking for update". Can't setup eprint.

I have an Officejet 4620 All-in-one working wireless. It prints, scans and sends and receives faxes well. After setting up a fixed IP address, I started to get this problem. I test the wireless connection pressing the wireless button and report says everthing's fine. I'm using Windows 7 64 bit SP1.
This is how I configured IPv4:
    IP Address 10.0.0.250
    Subnet Mask 255.255.255.0
    Default Gateway 10.0.0.67
    Preferred DNS Address 10.0.0.67
    Alternate DNS Address
    WINS Server 0.0.0.0
    Secondary WINS Server 0.0.0.0

    doghaus,
Change your preferred DNS server to 8.8.8.8 and your alternate to 8.8.4.4.
Let me know if that works for you.

  • Printer cannot connect with the Laptop - IP address are the same which is the issue

I have a HP Photosmart All in One printer that is connected to a desktop wirelessly and it works effectively on the desktop.  I had it connected to a laptop as well. It stopped working one day with the laptop and has not worked since. It continues to work with the  desktop. I have uninstalled/reinstalled the installation on the laptop, still does not work.  When I go to connect the laptop to the network and put in the IP address it says "The IP address entered is currently being used by this computer. Please confirm that your printer actually has this IP address or enter the correct address below and click search"  I have checked, double checked and tripled checked and it is the IP address that I got from the printer.  Same issue comes up with using the Host name.   Can anyone provide me with a solution? Thank you!!

Hi, Please give printer a FIX IP address, say from 200 to 254 and it will stay. Your other devices (phones, tablets ... ) including computers can use other addresses from 2 to 199 or from 1 to 199. Regards.

  • Cannot connect 4-port switch to hub3

Hi, recently had infinity installed and we are absolutely impressed with it and speeds in excess of 75down which is fantastic!
So the setup we have is the router downstairs, and an ethernet going from that to the 4-port switch which was all set up for us by the engineer.
What I wanted to do however, was to plug another 4-port switch (a white 'PEAK' branded wifi switch) into one of the 4 ports of the hub3 in order to increase the capacity up to 7 ethernet sockets.
This setup worked fine when we was with sky over on the old DSL line where the 4-port swtich simply went into skys netgear switch and worked automatic.
However, since switching to bt infinity, for whatever reason, this white switch will not work with BT's hub3.  By plugging a computer into the white switch, i can access the actual routers setup page by typing in 192.168.1.254, and can access all the settings.  The following settings come up...
    INTERNET: Connection Method - DHCP
    Internet IP Address: 192.168.1.67
    LAN: IP Address 192.168.1.254
    LAN: Network Mask 255.255.255.0
    LAN DHCP Server: ON
But like I say, the switch, which has got a cable coming from one of the HUB3's 4 ports into my old white PEAK routers INTERNET port, will not allow my old switch to access the internet.
So im really confused.  Why will my old switch not work on the BT Infinity HUB3?

Thanks for both your replies.  I read them earlier in the day, and been trying a few things out...
1st, I tried plugging the hub3 into lan4 on the peak switch, and the other 2 (sky and roku), along with my laptop for testing purposes into 1, 2 and 3, and all worked great!
Well... all wasnt so great, the connection was sporadic and intermittent, ping was low, and throughput was fast, but it was on and off.  A speedtest.net would stall, web links sometimes took 2 or 3 clicks, and so on.
So what have I learnt?  Well, the fact that it has an internet port (which I was wrongly trying to use before), means that it isnt a basic switch.
So today, I went and bought http://www.tp-link.dk/products/details/?model=TL-SF1005D.  Plugged that in the same way, and everything works perfect!
So now, I have the router (downstairs), plugged into the hub3 (upstairs via existing ethernet run throuth the stairs), 3 ports plugged into 2 pc's and 1 youview box, the 4th into a powerline socket upstairs,, with the other powerline socket plugged in downstairs behind the TV, connecting to the tp-link switch socket 5, with the sky+HD and Roku XL plugged into 1 and 2 on the switch respectively, and after testing I now everything running lightening fast with HD on demand, and the world is good
So thanks for both your advice, i learnt a bit today.
