Printer cartridge out of date

Have two HP printers (keep one at parents) that both use 301 cartridges.
Tried to replace today with genuine twin pack but will not work as warning screen flashes up 'out of date'.
Any ideas as didn't realise this happens and looking at nearly £30 wasted.
Thanks

Hi Petdam
I'd suggest calling HP Support. Tell them the exact error message and the warranty ends date on the cartridge itself. Can you please let me know how you get on?

  • Printer Cartridges - Restrictive "Best Before" Dates

    As the IT Manager for a corporate, I insisted that HP be the printer standard throughout the organisation. I reviewed the policy icw the technical support guys every 3 to 4 years and despite some bleating, insisted that HP remain the standard. With more important issues to worry about, new printer cartridges were always used and we did not mess around with refills etc. Good business for HP for 15 - 20 years.I thought I had current cartridges stashed in my cupboard and after unsuccessfully attempting to use them gave up. They are all just out of "use before" date. I am very confident the cartridges would work and am willing to take the risk and other possible consequences.Not being able to obtain other cartridges in the middle of the night, my sense of humour has failed.I will go out today and purchase a new printer - anything that does not have the cartridge protection crap that HP has had in place for quite some time now to ensure they have captive consumables consumers.I will use my reputation and authority to attack this issue because I can well imagine that many other users who foot their own printing costs are equally frustrated and this practice must have led to waste in a corporate environment where new consumables are simply stocked and drawn from the front of cupboards by users who do not care about costs or waste.

    Hello, Bruce,
    To quote you:
    Just keep in mind that if the manufacturer does not
    make money with the printer, it has to make it with
    the consumables. In other words, you pay up front, or
    you pay down the line.
    Thank you again, Bruce. This is good advice, and something to keep in mind when shopping. I'm so new to all this that I really appreciate the guidance of one who knows.
    Also, it has been reported that the software the
    tells you the ink levels is not always accurate.
    The lawsuit, from what I understand, also includes the inability to actually use all the ink in the cartridges. (Have you heard anything about this?) Even Staples, as of Sep. 17, is refusing to pay anymore for returned Epson cartridges, but will keep doing so for HP, Dell, etc.
    Finally, if you do not use the printer and all inks
    regularly, print out a test page (which uses very
    little ink on the Epson) monthly to keep the jets
    clean.
    Now this I did happen to learn very recently(!) Thank you for all your information.
    Okay, I think the Epson Stylus Photo R300 I have (and you have) is pretty good for print quality. You suggested a laser printer. Does it have similar quality? And would you please tell me which one you got, because I like your list of desirable qualities.
    Thank you again. You are helping me learn and I thank you again for your kind assistance.

    I am trying to print out a date from the past but I cant seem to get It,
    Lets use for example Independece Day,
    How would you write the code in order to print out that exact date?

    Look at the

    java/util/Date.html]Date APIActually the Calendar class would be better to use, since you can set all the different fields from year to second, plus things like day of week, day of month, week of year, etc.

  • Print out a Date in a format I want

    Now if I print out a Date object, I will get something like "Sat Jan 01 00:00:00 CST 2005", but what I want is "1/1/2005". I tried to use the get methods to get the month, day, and year so that I can put them in a format I want. However, all the get methods have been deprecated. What will be a possible(maybe easy as well?) way to do it? Thanks.

    Something like:
    import java.util.Date;
    import java.text.DateFormat;
    import java.text.SimpleDateFormat;
    public class Test {
        public static void main(String[] args) {
            DateFormat df = new SimpleDateFormat("d/M/yyyy");
            Date now = new Date();
            System.out.println(df.format(now));
            // new for Java 5.0 - almost the same format
            System.out.printf("%te/%<tm/%<tY%n", now);
    }Note: If you're using Java 5.0, then you can use the new printf method for PrintWriters. However, this doesn't appear to have a formatting token for single digit months.

  • How do I get the system to print-out a date at the bottom of page?

    When I am at a website and ask for a print-out of the page -
    the current date and time of print-out no longer appears at the lower right corner of page.

    I have resolved the problem. I will not use your time attempting to explain the process of elimination. However, the end result---
    I had taken delivery of a new printer mid-January - it is a HP OfficeJet 6000 (E609) - I wondered if that might be the problem - since I could not ascertain exactly when the print-out problem had presented itself.
    O.K. I logged on to the system and brought up the "Google" page to ask for a print-out. I checked for a print - and when the print box appeared I checked on "properties". That showed - to the left: "General Everyday Printing" and over to the right: Page size "A4 210 x 297mm" also the option "letter 8.5" x 11" and Legal 8.5" x 14" - so, I changed it to ask for the "letter - 8.5" x 11" - then I checked to "print" - I believe it was the "OK" - and the "Google: page was printed intact - showing the data generally associated with the top of the page and the date/time at the lower right.
    I placed a telephone call the HP this morning to ask them about the "A4" option and was advised that it is a "standard size paper" - but could not explain under set of circumstances it would be applicable.
    Hopefully, this data will be helpful to someone - thank you very much for your assistance in this matter.

  • Want to store data in a CLOB in an anonymous block and then print it out.

    Hi, we're using Oracle 11.2.
    I have a text variable that stores more than a SQL VARCHAR2 can handle.
    I'd like to store it in a CLOB variable and print it out that way.
    I'm trying to find articles that will show me how to do this but I haven't had much luck.
    Can anyone help me?

  • Can't change out printer cartridges

    I am having trouble changing out printer cartridges, because the spool will not bring the cartridges over to the center to change them when I open the access door for some reason.  I have tried power off the unit and back on mulitiple times, but nothing seems to help.  I even cleaned the cartridges and allign the print head, but still can not get it to open up access to the cartridges like most printers do when opening the door.

    HI Triceratops:
    I am pleased to assist you with this issue!
    Is the printer connected directly into an outlet or is it in a power bar/surge protector?HP recommends connecting directly to the electrical outlet. If the carriage still does not move for you to install the ink, try this.
    With the printer turned on and in a ready state, disconnect the power from the back of the printer. Open the carriage access door and can you now manually move the carriage to the correct position to remove and install the inks.  If you require further assistance would you please  tell me  what model of printer do you have? Please let me know if this resolves your issue.

  • Installed a new black ink printer cartridge in hp office jet 6500 e709n and it is not printing out

    installed a new black ink printer cartridge in hp office jet 6500 e709n  and it is not printing out anything with Black ink. I ran all the diagnostic tests including cleaning the cartridges, cartridge alignment, shut off the printer unplugged it, restarted, shut down computer retarted. All the other colors work except for the black cartridge. I checked the vent on cartridge and it is they way it should be. How can I print with Black Ink? very upset!!!! Have got to get something printed ASAP

    I've got the same with a new black ink cartridge. The display keeps alerting that you have to renew the ink. Tha's oke but the printer does not print black/White.
    Do i have to replace the collor ink also at the same time?
    Does it mean that if you replace black and not the color that it's NOT possible to print b/w?

  • My printer says print cartridge(s) missing or not detected. I have a HP Photosmart C4200.  The cartridges were working.  I popped the cart.'s out

    My printer says print cartridge(s) missing or not detected.  I have a HP Photosmart C4200 & the cartridges have worked in the past.  I have popped the cartridges out & back in to get it to print twice, but now that doesn't work.  Is the problem in my printer or have the drivers installed on my iMac become corrupted?  I have the CD that came with the printer but to reinstall the drivers I would need to uninstall the ones on my iMac.  I don't know how to do that.  Does anyone know how to uninstall printer drivers?  My OS is OSx but I don't know which version.  My iMac is 3.5 years old.

  • Print Cartridges

    Hi, Garen.  This is good advice, and I hope that whoever responds to my query will follow it.
    I am a new participant to this forum, and was not sure where best to post this question.
    I have a C5180 that has served me very well in the past.  It seems to be a good workhorse.  I noted several comments about it in the forum having issues with print cartridges, which I found to be issues with the cartridge suppliers selling out of date cartridges.  Even though it would appear the cartride had ink, it still would not function or be recognized by the printer because it was expired.  I will check all dates when purchasing replacements in the future, and save receipts in case I need to seek accommodataion from the reseller.
    Now to my current problem/dilemma.  I tried to transfer from a camera card today.  The memory card was a 128m3 SD card.  I checked it for proper insertion multiple times, but whenever I would select "Save" on Photosmaret Express, it would put a message on my monitor that the 5180 "could not connect to the device".  Clearly it is connected, because the message appears on the screen.  So why can't I transfer photos from the memory card to the computer?
    Thanks in advance for any help.

  • "Printer cartridges not installed correctly" error message

    HP Tech Support and HP Envy Users, Still getting the "Printer cartridges not installed correctly" error message for no good reason and it's July 2015! HP should have fixed this problem a long time ago based on the date of the posts from users. And/or corrected the misleading error message, as the users did install them correctly. I didn't get an installation error message when I installed my cartridges and I have been able to print successfully on this current set of cartridges. My error message appeared out of the blue. I've done all the troubleshooting steps except replace BOTH cartridges. I will do that. If the error message goes away once I've replaced one or both cartridges, HP should have long provided an update that says, "replace ink cartridges" and not the misleading one of not being installed correctly. If that doesn't clear up the problem, I will call HP as it's still under warranty. Hope I didn't get one of the "lemons" that require servicing.

  • 'Out of date' messages

    I have a Photosmart 8250 (3 yrs old?) & I bought a few packs of the HP cartidges at the same time as they were in a Staples sale at a reduced price.    I'm now getting messages telling me they're out of date & sometimes the 8250 will not continue to print.   Sometimes it does & the photos are excellent.   Can I bypass this blocking tactic to my using the cartisges, if it's possible how do I do it ?    Thanks.

    Hi terryindorset,
    Is it the 'ink cartridges expired' message?

     If so, it's probably best to replace the cartridges so that you won't get the intermittent printing issues.
