Printer compatability

I have a Surface Pro 3.  I use aa 1536dnf at work and an 8620 at home. Occasionally, I can only print from "Print Test Page." To get it to work from Office, QuickBooks, and the internet, I have to delete bothe printers and the associated software and reload the printer drivers and software. It then works for a period of time and then fails again.
When on vacation in Florida, I tried to install and 8610 with the 8620 and the same problem occurred.
Is this a machine problem, software incompatability, or .........?

Hello @Walt_B,
Welcome to the HP forums.
I understand that you are having a hard time printing from your Surface Pro 3.
I would like to help.
Since it is happening with several printers, I feel that the problem is not with the printers.
It is either a software issue or a network issue.
If you have the software installed on the surface Pro 3, try running the HP Print and Scan Doctor.

  • How can I get the Microsoft enhanced Point and Print compatibility driver installed on Win7 LC master?

We recently migrated from a Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2012 print server. When recomposing a linked clone pool with the old 2003 server, drivers were taken care of for the printer when the user printed for the first time after desktop recompose. With 2012, any printer using the Point and Print driver doesn't seem to obtain the driver again from the 2012 server. All of our clients are running Windows 7 which means the Microsoft enhanced Point and Print compatibility driver is not installed in the OS natively.
I apparently need to figure out a way to get this installed on the host image so it trickles down to snapshots when recomposing the linked clone pool but I haven't been able to dig much information on doing this. Does anyone out there have any insight on how to accomplish this? If I recompose a pool now for a user who is using a new Point and Print driver, they get the following message that is resolved by removing the printer from their account and re-adding it:
"The 'Microsoft enhanced Point and Print compatibility driver' printer driver is not installed on this computer. Some printer properties will not be accessible unless you install the printer driver. Do you want to install the driver now?"
I figured the easy solution would be to just install a printer using the Point and Print driver and then remove it...leaving the driver behind (unless it cleaned up after itself). The problem with this is in my testing, even after removing and re-adding a printer that set off installation of this Point and Print driver on the client, any other printer that was using it still required the remove/re-add process in order to work, else I got the same message. That tells me that the driver may be custom for each printer installed?
Color me a little confused. I do NOT like the way that Server 2012 handles printers. I've come across a few other issues as well (such as duplex capabilities not being remember on the print server for a printer) that I never had with the 2003 server.
    Thanks!!

I was able to get it to work using your instructions off of here and your other thread

  • Enhanced Point & Print compatibility driver in Windows 7

    Hi all,
are admin permission needed to install the enhanced Point & Print compatibility driver in Windows 7? The print server is running Windows 2012R2 and the driver type for the printer is V4.
When a user (non admin) tries to add that printer, a dialog box pops up and asks for trust. Is this the default behaviour?
    Many thanks!

    Hi Nils,
Would you please let me know whether add a network printer via
Add a printer wizard, then encounter the issue (ask for trust)? Or do any other operation? Just a confirmation, thanks for your understanding.

How can I print from my ipad air without buying a new "air print" compatable printer? I currently have a HP Photosmart plus B210. Can I make that work?

Although you have posted in a Mavericks forum, implying that you have a Mac computer, your profile doesn't say that you have one. Printer Pro requires the printer to be connected to a Mac.

    Hello Highcountryhike,
Thank you for posting your request.  You should have no issues updating to 10.10 Yosemite.  Below are a couple links that should help.
If you run the Software Updates from the Apple Menu, to check for updates.  Some have had issues not seeing updates, so simply click on "Store" from the top menu, and then click on Reload Page".  Select to install HP Updates to ensure you have the latest drivers.
In some instances, the printer can be updated in the printer queue to resolve other issues, so check to make sure that the printer is listed with the HP Printer Series driver and not just AirPrint.  System Prefernces/Printers & Scanners/ select your printer on the left and check on the right side under "Location:" that Kind: is the printer series.  You can also click the "-" symbol to remove and then re-add the printer queue again, choosing the HP Printer series name to install the drivers.

  • Printer Compatibility

I find that I cannot connect my new notebook (G62-435DX) to my old printer (Dell Phote Printer 720) due to compatibility issues related to 64 v. 32 bit.  Is there any way to overcome this or do I just need to get a new printer?  I've tried the Dell website but not helpful

This is a real issue in the somewhat rare case where there is no driver available. If your version of Windows 7 is Professional or Ultimate you can install "Windows XP mode" which allows you to use any device for which there is an XP driver; i.e. almost anything. I use XP Mode myself so I can still work with an older scanner which has no Windows 7 64 bit driver.

  • Printer compatability for my G4

I have a powermac G4 using OSX 10.4.11 and also loaded with system 9 which I still use for some of my older applications. I've been using macs for years but am now a late comer to OSX. I'm looking at an HP 8500 jet printer to use with this computer. According to the box, it is compatable with the OSX. My question is what happens if I'm using one of my system 9 apps? Will I be able to print from one of them? If not directly is there a work around that works well in order to move the doc from 9 to 10 to print? Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi-
    Welcome to Discussions!
You should be able to print from Classic in OS X.
My HP printers always do, though the later models don't support background printing in Classic.

  • Printer Compatibility Issue with PDF?

I have a PDF document someone else created with InDesign CS3 5.0.4.  It opens in Reader 9.1.3 and prints perfectly on some newer printers.  However on older printers the very bottom of the document is chopped off in both print preview and the actual print on paper.  Both printers are HP and I spent a couple hours chatting with HP Tech Support trying new drivers, etc.  Their conclusion was that it is caused by an unresolvable issue between the PDF and the older printer.  They, of course, said I would need to buy new printers eventhough they are not that old and work just fine for everything else.
So far the same issue has come up in three other offices. There must be a better solution other than throwing money at it.
I have never used InDesign and I am wondering if there could be some settings used at the PDF creation in either InDesign or Acrobat that may solve the problem.  The form must be printed exactly as designed so Shrink to Fit is not an option.
    Thanks.

Thank you for answering so quickly!
I agree, and I am afraid the answer to this issue is to either buy new printers or redesign the form.
The PDF is a new state government form and I want to exhaust all other options before I get involved with the bureaucracy of inquiring about a change to the design of the form.  (A stick in the eye sounds more fun.)
So from your expert knowledge of InDesign and PDFs there is no way, short of redesigning the form, to have it print correctly on "older" printers?
    Thanks again.

  • Multi-function printer compatibility

I have read in a few places that a multi-function printer (print, scan, fax, copy) will not work with all of the computers on the network plugged in to the USB port of the time capsule
to anyone that has the time capsule, is this true?
will all computers on the network be able to print?
because it is not too crucial for me to be able to scan to and fax from other computers on the network, will the scan and fax functions be usable on at least one of the computers?

TC (and airport extreme) peripheral support falls into universal (ethernet) and special (usb).
Anything that can be connected to the ethernet port will be translated through the wireless system and work just well (or not well) as it would if connected via ethernet. Devices plugged into the USB port (directly or through a hub) require special support by Apple. Apple writes drivers for these and adds a tab to the airport utility software. This used to be just printers. Currently, this is limited to printers and hard drives. MFCs go beyond the simple printing function Apple is trying to support via USB.
In my case, I have a Brother 7820n MFC. Its designed to operate over ethernet. Plugged into the TC, this means printing, scanning, and faxing (right out the phone jack) wirelessly - from every computer in the house.
Does your MFC offer an ethernet upgrade?

  • New Epson printer compatibility problem?

    Hello!
I'm trying to set up a new printer for my parents, who have the iMac G4 running 10.4.11.
My brother-in-law bought an Epson XP-200 Small-in-One printer.  On the Epson support page for drivers for this printer,
I selected Mac OSX 10.4.x, and the available driver was Common Updater v9.0, epson14284.dmg.
I downloaded this driver, installed it, and then Added the printer in Printer Setup Utility.
In Printer Setup Utility, the printer was recognized as: XP-200 Series.
For Print Using, I selected Epson.
A list of models appeared, and the XP-200 was not among them (no XP was listed).
But every model listed had the same thing after the model name:  Gimp-Print v5.0.0-beta2
So I selected the first model.
The printer does print, but painfully slowly, with terrible output (pale print, and non-black text is rendered in multiple,
    different-colored, vertically shifted lines).
It looks like the Utility function (for checking ink, e.g.) isn't available.
Is this an issue of an insufficient driver for an "old" OSX?
Or have I not done the setup right?
Is there new printer that works easily and well with 10.4.11?
    Thanks!

  • Printer compatibility with windows 8.1

My bank's website allows me to view and print images of my cancelled checks. When I was running Windows 7 my LaserJet 1020 worked just fine. But with Windows 8.1 it would not print the images themselves--just two empty boxes and surrounding text. I then purchased a new HP LaserJet Pro P 1102w after being told it was compatible with Windows 8.1. I now have the exact same problem with the new printer. I do not have this problem when I attach my laptop running Windows 7 to the new printer. I prints out everything. I short, I don't believe my new printer is fully compatible with Windows 8.1. I have been unable to download HP's "full solution." How can I get this on a CD?
    This question was solved.

    Hi Flyfish66,
The issue most likely lies with the browser you are using with Windows 8. It is probably a different version from when you were using Windows 7.
What browser are you using? AOL?
Try using another browser to see if have the same results. (Google  Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer)
Use another browser other then AOL, when downloading the drivers.
If you are able to print with the different browser, please contact AOL support for further assistance with using that browser.

  • MacBook Air with OS X 10.7.4 printer compatibility?

Will my MacBook Air with OS X 10.7.4 run an HP 3520 printer?  If not, what printers are especially good for that laptop?

On first read of your post, I think you could have one of three causes.
The first is that often an LPD queue requires a specific queue name. If you were to check the port setting on one of the Windows clients, you would see what the queue name is; although I would expect that the PC's will be using "RAW Port 9100" instead of LPR. If they are using Port 9100 then you can use the same protocol on the Mac. Via Print & Fax, select to add another print queue but this time select IP > HP Jetdirect-Socket, which is Apple's name for Port 9100.
If using HP Jetdirect still causes the same error then it could be some form of job management enabled in the copier. Many colour devices often have the ability to control access to the printing or copying via an iD and password. If such a setting exists on the C3000 and it is enabled then you may need to check the menus within the C3000 Mac driver for a field where you can enter an ID and password.
If no job management is enabled then the last suggestion would be the supported printer language. For some office copiers, Postscript is now an option rather than a standard inclusion. If the driver you downloaded is Postscript but the copier does not support this printer language, then this will result in the job vanishing and possibly that error code you mention, which may be along the lines of incorrect printer description language (PDL). Again you could check one of the Windows to see what printer driver they are using. If it is PCL then this may confirm this thought. But to be sure, I suggest you get a configuration page from the copier. This should show what printer languages it supports. If there is no Postscript support, then you would need to look at using the pxlmono package, which supports colour printing. Note that the built-in Generic PCL Laser driver in Lion only supports b&w printing.

  • Cannon printer compatibility

    Hi,
I have tried OS X Yosemite  10.10 on my mac book pro 17" early 2012 over last weekend and it was a bit of a disaster. I have been running it on Mavericks till then and had connected several peripherals: Cannon LBP 3500 A3 mono laser printer, Cannon LBP 6000 A4 mono laser printer, Brother A4 colour laser printer, Cannon LIDE 210 A4 USB scanner and Mustek 2400 A3 scanner, plus Dell 23" LED monitor and of course apple keyboard, mouse and track pad. All Cannon peripherals failed to work. I have tried to download latest version of drivers and for LBP 6000 i got version 3.67 but it would not work either. Talking to Cannon rep somewhere in the ether they said no updates for my printers will be available as there is no demand (sic). What a waste they are just 2-3 years old. Muster and Brother units worked well. Also all peripherals are connected via 2 USB2 hubs (pro book has only 2 usb2 ports) which started to play up as well while on Yosemite. Since then i had to reverse to Mavericks thanks to time machine the whole system just rolled back and within 2 hrs all was up and working. Does anyone have any suggestions on what can be done? I would like to upgrade to Yosemite soon. I have noticed some posts on having same problems with Yosemite and cannon lbp 6000 but it does not seem to be resolved yet. And i have fusion 7 with win 7 on book pro too.
    Thanks

Thanks, I have checked the Sys Info utility and here is the screen shot of what it showed. I had all peripherals turned on and it shows all 3 printers and cannon scanner but does not show Mustek scanner which is on and works, funny, any explanation? So if i had the other book pro with Yosemite and all peripherals connected and switched on would Sys Info app show me whether all is working? Is there any diagnosis app i could run to check for any problems with USB hubs? I am not sure whether there have been any USB hub problems reported so far with Yosemite.

I have a HP Deskjet 3845 (3840 series) and I cannot print from it wirelessly (mac printing to a printer hooked up w windows xp). I checked HP and got the drivers and installed them-successfully, but they don't show up in "PRINT".
I then installed all extra drives from leopard install disk 1 and successful install, but it still didn't respond in PRINT under drivers.
    Any help is appreciated.

Hi Bri95, did you download the new drivers from software update? One thing that happened to me was the new driver update from apple messed up my driver. run the uninstaller then restart then download the latest driver (http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/softwareList?os=219&lc=en&cc=us&lang=en&dlc=e n&product=372330) and install. restart then it should be fine.
But seeing that HP's driver is from 11/07, maybe check software update and see if you downloaded the file already, the newer one from Apple. Sorry if this is confusing.
