Printer Dialog Box in CS4 - Printing Grayscale Images

I hope I'm not duplicating a new topic. I thought I opened this topic yesterday but I don't seem to be able to locate it in this forum. So, I'll try again. This is a pivotal CS4 question re printer set-up for grayscale images with and without b&w profiles.
When setting up print parameters for a Grayscale image in PS CS4 I no longer have the option to select "No Color Management." It seems to be available to RGB images but not grayscale. Which leads to the question as to how I set up print parameters to print grayscale images using Advanced Black & White mode. Can you help?
Regards,
King Dexter

As it turns out my original problem has led into a more serious set of color management changes found in CS4. In my case, for instance, I'm finding it difficult to determine the correct way to print untagged, ABW grayscale profiling targets. Others are having similar difficulties with color profiling. Other forums are buzzing as people migrate to PSCS4: Here are just a few examples that hopefully will attract Adobe attention here:
Excerpt #1:
Sounds like this should be raised in the PS forums where Chris Cox
will pick it up. (I raised the colour mgt issues of Bridge there and
they picked that up.)
Excerpt #2:
The deeper explanation going on here has to do with printing interfaces on OS X changing over time. In the past, some printer drivers (notably Canon, with its older iPF series printers) did not interpret the image data appropriately and thus had incorrect driver settings that could not be reset by the user. Photoshop CS3 worked around some of these issues for specific drivers, but did not conform to Apple's OS X specifications for how to pass image data to the print driver, leading to problems elsewhere. With CS4, Adobe has taken the approach of conforming to Apple's latest print driver interface specifications, so CS4 now has the same behavior as LR with regards to printing on OS X.
However, many print drivers have not been updated to conform to the OS X printing interface, and thus some folks are experiencing printing issues, such as double color-management. This is unfortunate, but it really needs to be addressed by the printer drivers.
Now, back to the ABW situation: I don't know if Epson has a glitch with the ABW driver under the latest OS X release. I have occasionally seen what you've seen: i.e., I hit "Print" in PS CS4 and nothing comes out. But then I mess around a little with the Epson printer driver configuration and then it works.
In particular, I found that if I had an older "saved setting" or preset within the Epson driver that I used to recall a particular ABW driver setting, then it would fail. So I deleted all my Epson driver presets and started again from scratch (manually selecting media type, color mode, ABW settings, paper config, etc.) Then I haven't had any trouble printing ABW images since.
Excerpt #3
I've done some testing of various color management approaches and it is indeed
confusing.
Here's what I've deduced using CS3 and CS4 with drivers printing stepwedges.
CS3 with No Color Mgmt I consider the "correct" result. The driver gets 21
evenly stepped values.
With CS4, only Photoshop Manages Color with Print Profile = Working Gray Space
gives the identical results. (assuming grayscale, untagged file).
Printer Manages Color makes a default conversion to Generic Gray Profile which
is a gamma 1.8 profile. If you happen to use GG 1.8 as a working space this conversion may not hurt but if you use GG 2.2 it'll darken the print. I think this has been true in PS for
several versions.
To make things more complicated OS X 10.5 has a new print dialog pane called
Color Matching which allows you to select Colorsync vs driver based mode and ICC profiles. I
don't know how this will affect things -- I'd leave it alone.
No Color Management is selectable with an RGB file but I just got blank pages
with this option.
-- QTR definitely received a blank page from the system. This is probably
related to your
ABW printing not working.
Note that the CS4 documentation specifically states to use No CM for making
custom ICC profiles.

  • Can't see printer name in the print dialog box as the printer name is too long

This is actually causing siginificant pain as I am using a tablet and moving around a number of floors/buildings needing to be able to print from where I am.
When printing from Acrobat reader, the print dialog box that comes up does not have a horizontal scroll bar and does not fit in the names of the printers in my organisation. We are unable to change the printer name, so it basically means that when using Acrobat, we can't select a printer.
All other windows applications show more characters and also have a horizontal scroll bar in the print dialog box so you can scroll across to see the rest of a long printer name. Why is acrobat not using the standard windows print dialog?
Has anyone come across this? Help!

This is the Acrobat forum, not the Reader forum. In the future you should check there. I am not sure why you can not change the printer name, unless you do not have administrator rights. The name of the printer has nothing to do with where the print copy is sent. It is just for the purpose you mentioned of identifying the printer to print to. If you are not the administrator, ask your IT folks to change the name for you and explain why.

  • Opening print dialog box with "Selection" printing enabled

    Hi all,
I have a JTable in which I wan to print only selected rows. When I open the Print dialog box using printDialog() method of PrinterJob, the dialog opens with "Selection" option disabled.
How can I enable this option ?
How can I print my selection using the standard Print Dialog ?

    This I know.
    Let me refrase my question:
I have a table with selected cells (Rows Cols
whatever ...) I wish to open the print dialog box
with Selection radio button enabled, such that when I
will check it and click print, the selected table
cell get printed. This I had understood.
    Let me refrase my reply:
If you simply print a new table containing the selected data
then you don't need to have the Selection radio button enabled
    in the print dialog box.

  • No Print dialog box  apear in printing a report

i am using developer6i report builder for last two years but now i am facing a problem of printing report dialog box for printing page one by one, this problem i did not face ever.any body tell me what is the problem,it is installation problem or any other printer driver. i am using epson lx-300 printer and laser HP12000.

    Hi,
I have faced this problem as well. And it was diagnosed to be the parameter problem. As I was using the same report for mail purposes, so I have had set the parameters like print destination, destination type, printjob etc. in report triggers like "After Paramaeter Form".
I suggest, if you are using the report triggers, then check the parameters being set, specially "PrintJob" must be set to "YES" to stand up the print dialog box.
    Hope it helps.

  • Photoshop cc print dialog box image dark

I'm on a MacBook Pro running Mt. Lion with PS CC, an Eizo monitor, printing with an Epson 3880, calibrated and profiled with a ColorMunki. When I preview an image to print, the image is darker in preview, and the color is much different than the actual image. When I print with the proper paper profile, (photoshop manages color and the space is Adobe 1998) it prints looking like the preview image rather tha the one on the monitor. I also run Snow Leopard on a partition with CS6, and the above does not happen, everything works fine. A photog friend of mine with a similar setup is experiencing the same problem since upgrading to Mt. Loin. Another graphic designer friend is running Mavericks and is has the same problem. I have another photog friend in Nashville who is having THE SAME PROBLEM!! Does anyone know what the heck is going on? I'm the only one who kept Snow Leopard so I can still print, which I do on almost a daily basis. What broke what? Is it a bug with PS CC, or did something in MT. Lion break? This is very frustrating for all of us and I find it totally unacceptable.
If anyone has a clue and can help, we would be eternally greatfull.
    Thanks,
    Greg Nikas

Thanks for the tip on inserting photos. I'm new here, won't post a link in the future.
    I'll try to simplify my issue;
    1. In CS6 in Snow Leopard, the original/source image looks just like the image in the print dialog box and prints beautifuly. See images below.
    Original image.
    Print dialog box image.
    2. In PS CC and CS6 in Mt. Lion, the original/source image is redder and more saturated than the image in the print dialog box, but the print looks like the the image in the print dialog box. The image in the print dialog box looks like the original/source image in CS6 in Snow Leopard! See images below.
    Original image.
    Print dialog box image.
    3. The issue seems to be with how the original/source image in PS CC and CS6 renders in Mt. Lion. As I said in my intial post, I have three friends who are having the same problem and none of us can figure it out, and I'm the only one who kept Snow Leopard.
    4. I'm on a MacBook Pro running Snow Leopard and Mt. Lion on a partitioned disk.
    5. I have an Eizo CG222W monitor, which is calibrated with an x-rite ColorMunki. Each OS has it's own calibration profile.
    6. I print on an Epson 3880 using the latest driver, and all papers have thier own profile and look the same when printed from either OS.
    7. All settings in PS CC, CS6 and Bridge are identical in both OS's.
I hope this is stated more clearly.

  • Current View option in  the Print dialog box

I have a PDF file, approximately 55 pages that is comrpised of 50+ .jpg images that were combined into a single PDF file. The images are various size screenshots from Facebook.
I need to be able to print the entire file at 75% magnification in order for every page to be readable.  Only way in Adobe’s print dialog box that I can find to do so is select one page at a time, select “Current View” and then print.
When "All" is selected under Print Range in the Print Dialog box, the pages print at different magnifications, most below 10% and unreadable.
Is there a way to get the entire document to print in the “Current View” setting or at a specified magnification?
I’m using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

    duh...
Figured out I had to tweak it in the "copies and Pages"

  • How to suppress print dialog box from popping up under a condition

    Greetings...
There may be a better way to accomplish what I'm trying to do, so I'm open to outside-the-box suggestions.
I have a pretty simple page which lists a set of statuses and descriptions of each. The user can edit these status flags and their descriptions on the page as well. When I view the page in "printer friendly" mode, I see a nice simple report of what the statuses are and their descriptions. Everything works great so far.
In our work request system built in ApEx, there's a page where someone can view the details of a work request, including the current status. When someone clicks on the help of that item, what I'd love to do is simple show the "printer friendly" version the status page mentioned above in a pop up window. My problem is that the print dialog box automatically shows up when a page is displayed in "printer friendly" mode and I do not want this to happen in this case.
I see the javascript code in the Printer Friendly page template which causes the print dialog box to show up automatically, but I don't want to remove it in the template just for this one case. This would suppress the print dialog box on all "printer friendly" page views and the users are used to it showing up when they ask to print the page.
I guess I could create a custom request to pass to the master status page which would pretty much do everything that the "printer friendly" mode is doing, but that seems like a lot of work when I'm so close to using something that is built in.
Am I not seeing some simple other way of doing it or perhaps asking too much? Any suggestions?
    Shane.

    Hi,
I think you have to call the FM GET_PRINT_PARAMETERS and pass NO_DIALOG = 'X'.
    Something like:
      CALL FUNCTION 'GET_PRINT_PARAMETERS'
        EXPORTING
          no_dialog      = 'X'
        IMPORTING
          out_parameters = ls_params
          valid          = lv_valid
        EXCEPTIONS
          OTHERS         = 1.
NEW-PAGE PRINT ON PARAMETERS ls_params NO DIALOG.
    * Display Table
      lr_table->display( ).
add: Spool numbers can be found in TSP01 or in system field SY-SPONO available in the submitting program...
    Hope it helps,
    Kr,

    Hi,

  • Printer Dialog for Canon S9000 Printer

I dug out my large format Canon S9000 printer and am having trouble color correcting the photographic prints. Part of the trouble seems to be that in OS 10.6 I don't seem to be able to get the printer dialog box from the printer utility. When you go into the printer driver all you get is Canon S9000 in the box and I don't seem to be able to get into change any of the driver settings. Can anyone help? Thanks.

    spinosaurus wrote:
I did download the latest driver for the S9000 available, although it is updated I believe only through OS X v10.5 and not 10.6.
The driver update is for 10.6. If you have v10.36.2.0 installed then at least there should be some level of comparison between my setup and yours.
I talked to Canon support and they told me that Apple writes the printer drivers for the OS systems and not them.
This is not true. Canon creates the drivers and provides them to Apple so that it they are available via Software Update.
Since you are using the same driver from Canon, maybe you could answer some of the following questions: What color space do you use for importing your photograph, sRGB, AdobeRGB, ProRGB, etc.? What color space do you use for viewing your photograph? Do use any ICC print profiles to print?
For the photo that I used to test, it was taken on my Canon EOS7D and imported using Image Capture. The Get Info for the photo shows the colour space as RGB and the colour profile as sRGB IEC61966-2.1.
For printing I selected the Canon profile to match the Canon Photo Plus Glossy, which is shown as GL3/SG3 in ColorSync. When PS was managing the colour this was selected via the PS print dialog > printer profile. When I selected the printer to manage, I used the Quality & Media tab to select the paper which in turn sets the profile, as seen in the Color Options menu.

  • EPSON printer update v2.3.1:  color controls now dimmed @ print dialog box

I have lost the ability to control color in the Print/Print Settings dialog box after this update. The Ink tab is dimmed and set to "Color," the Color Settings tab is also dimmed and set to "Off (No Color Adjustment)," and the Advanced tab brings up only information about the Colorsync profile. The graphic file (Photohop) I'm printing from is a grayscale file.
There is no difference in the Print dialog box between having Photoshop manage the colors or having the Printer do it.
My concern is that the printer will now be consuming color ink, but the actual prints appear to be using only the matte black.
Anybody else run into this? Should I be concerned?
    Thanks

From PHOTOSHOP (CS4) In the printer driver menu, the COLOR MATCHING pulldown shows the choices are grayed out. But go to the PRINT SETTINGS pulldown. There you should be able to select BLACK/COLOR Ink, color settings if appropriate (VIVID etc)...
Apparently not all programs gray out the COLOR MATCHING boxes - a demoed a RIP that does not do this but it has other issues (ImageNext2.1).
Also CS4 has the ability to completely disable color management (used for printer profiling), but some apps cannot do this with this driver (ImageNest2.1, DataColor Spyder3Print)

  • Photoshop CS5 crashes when selecting print settings in print dialog box

I work on a Mac Pro desktop with OS 10.6.4. Photoshop CS5 crashes every time I try to select "print settings" in the print dialog box. I work in a large office and our networked color printer is a Konica Minolta bizhub C451. In fact, if I hit "print" it will crash whether or not I hit "print settings" first. In CS4, there was a separate menu item that allowed you to change printer settings before going into the print dialog box. That choice is gone now, you have to select it through the print dialog box.
This is the only way I can print out color proofs for my clients. Unfortunately, I do not have administrator rights to any printer (our office has about 100 people, only IT staff can fiddle with that). What can I do to get this solved?

I think I have fixed it, though I'm not sure why this worked.
System Preferences>Print & Fax. Selected the Konica Minolta printer (the B/W printer was working fine). Changed the name. Still didn't fix it. Went back selected my newly named Konica Minolta then "Open Print Queue" (like Dave said)>print settings. Change the driver to "Generic Postscript printer." I could print, but only on letter-size paper, no other options available (need tabloid). Went back to system preferences>print & fax>Konica Minolta2>open print queue>drivers then I reselected the updated printer drivers--the same one that hasn't been working.
    Now, it works.
Thanks all for the helpful advice!

  • What happened to the ColorSync option in my print dialog box?

I am using a Canon Selphy CP 740 for photo printing with my Alu iMac, and since new, I noticed most / all of the photos came out too dark. However I discovered the ColorSync option to lighten the image, and this fixed the problem. Since upgrading to Leopard (10.5.1), this option no longer appears in my print dialog box. I have looked at the ColorSync utility in the Utilities folder, but this printer doesn't appear in the devices listed there. Is there any answer to my problem?

Found out Color Sync was left up to the individual manufacturers to use or not use in their drivers.

  • How can I get print dialog box to show accurately?

My print dialog box shows the image too large. If I go to print it prints correctly. I have tried updating drivers and reinstalling Illustrator. It has been happening since new update to CC.

When viewing the print settings, in the Summary List, it shows the Paper width as 9 inches rather than 8.5.
The Navigator window shows (in my test file) 4 plus signs across the top of an 8.5 by 11 inch page.
The Print Preview in the Print Dialog shows  only 3.  My printer is set to standard 8.5 by 11 page size.
Everything prints perfectly in CS6 when I bring the file in.

  • Print Dialog box issues

When I make changes to a print parameter, ie add crop marks, the changes only appear if I select a different media size than what I was working in. Say I was working in CUSTOM. If I add crop marks, I have to chose another media size, say, LETTER, then come back to CUSTOM for the change to take place. In previous versions, I only had to CLICK on the media size I was working in, say, CUSTOM and the change was applied. Sort of a nuisance. Any suggestions?

Printer type makes no difference. This has to do with the PRINT DIALOG BOX (CTRL-P) and the MEDIA SIZE option within. Below are the screen shots which depict the issue.
#1 - print dialog box open and select CUSTOM under media size.
#2 - selecting trim marks and bleed
#3 - back to the GENERAL tab where just clicking on CUSTOM does not change the preview
#4 - you must choose a different size - in this case A3 for the preview to update and show the crop mark and bleed selections.
#5 - finally going back to CUSTOM updates the preview to show how the image will print
#6,7 & 8 - shows the process in reverse when you deselect the CROP MARKS and BLEED. Must still choose a difference MEDIA SIZE for preview to update.
In previous versions of Illus, all you needed to do was click on the CUSTOM media size selection and the preview would update. When you print as often as we do, this little annoyance gets quite bothersome.
    Hope this explains it.
