Printer dialog page doesn't give me landscape/portrait Orientation option

When I try to print something, and bring up the printer dialog window, I no longer have the option of swapping between landscape and portrait.
I used to be able to hit command-P, then select Layout, where I was given a choice between Orientation: a graphic up for Portrait and sideways for Layout.  I would also get a small print preview window where I could see each page formatted.
Now all I get it is a small icon with the digit 1 where the preview used to be, and no Orientation option.  Layout Direction is there, as are other options, but not that one.  And now things only print in Landscape; I can't change print jobs to Portrait.
I deleted (really renamed) my ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.print.PrintingPrefs.plist file, and then restarted my application, as I saw that as a suggestion in a different thread, alas no joy.
Background: I'm running Mavericks OS 10.9.1.  I have an old Macbook on the same OS level; it works on that machine.  The screen is failing on the old one so I'm trying to get the new one up & running.  When I bought this new one I tried to clone it using Time Machine but that failed (very long story) so I had to manually copy over User and Library directories to get this one going.  I'm guessing something didn't get copied over right, but regardless I should be able to select this as an option on any print.
To make matters more confusing, it didn't work on ANY app at first, but as I've poked around on it tonight (3-4 hours) it started working on some apps but not others.  I have no idea why.  Weird.
I really need help; I'm desparate!
Thanks.

So your observations and especially your last question was a very good one.
I checked the old laptop (where it was working) and the print dialog boxes appear to be consistent across machines, but different across applications.  In Safari I do get something closer to what you have, in Firefox (and other apps) it's what I showed.  I could have sworn they all acted the same, I thought that pop-up window was OS-generated, but maybe not.
You're on to something here.  I'm checking how it works with File -> Page Setup now.  It looks like they moved the Orientation option over there rather than in the print dialog box ... depending on exactly what application it is.  That seems to be the case in Firefox at least.
I've got a number of apps to run through and check, and it's real late so I'll have to finish my checking tomorrow.  But this is hopeful.  My tax software is where I first noticed it (IRS forms get truncated when you print them landscape, sigh) but you may have pointed me in the right direction.
Confirmation later, but even so thanks for now!

  • Reader doesn't print any document & doesn't give any error.

I've problem with Reader on my Windows7 PC.
Every document that i try to print directly from Reader doesn't arrive to printer, & i doesn't have any error from software.
but form all other softwares i can print, also from mail program i can print PDF.
I've try to reinstall Reader but i have same problem.

    Hi David,
When you click on print option and you get print dialog box to choose options. Take screen shot and attach while you reply.
How is your printer connected with computer? Have you tried installing latest printer driver?
What is the current version of Reader installed on your machine.

  • PrintJob is ignoring print dialog page range

The class flash.printing.PrintJob presents an OS print dialog box when the start() method is executed, but in Windows XP the dialog option to select a page range is disabled.  In Mac OSX Snow Leopard the page range portion of the dialog is enabled, but is not recognized.  Instead, all pages are printed regardless of the entry.  It does work correctly for an Air application running under adl, but it does not work correctly for an Air application running under Air. It does not work correctly for a Flex application running in the browser, or running from Flash Builder.

Did it work before? It could be a printer driver problem with the OS.
It could also be a PS preferences problem.
To fix, reset your preferences as described in the FAQ.
    http://www.adobeforums.com/webx/.ef4a07f/1
You either have to physically delete (or rename) the preference files or, if using the Alt, Ctrl, and Shift method, be sure that you get a confirmation dialog.
This resets all settings in Photoshop to factory defaults.
A complete uninstall/re-install will not affect the preferences and a corrupt file there may be causing the problem.

  • HT4528 With IOS 7 I had to move my photos and videos off to a backup to install the IOS.  When they moved back to the phone during a sync I have no way to delete them.  The trashcan stays grayed out and the usage page doesn't give me a delete option.

I got the message that IOS 7 was ready to download.  I wish I had read the reviews on it first.  I had to move my photos and videos off the phone to free up memory space for the install.  I was still able to see the phone with a file browser and grabbed the photos and videos and stored them in a directory on my hard drive.  Meanwhile my itunes updated too.  So with my files moved and deleted from the phone I made a backup of the phone.  I installed the ios 7.  When I synced the itunes moved my backup directories back to the phone.  I can't figure out how to remove them from the phone.  Under photos they have installed themselves with the names iphone09282013 and videos directories.  When I access them I don't get a delete option.  The trashcan is greyed out.  The settings usage page no longer gives me the swipe delete function.  How do I remove these files to free up space now that I have them saved to my computer?

    Hi Eric Ferguson,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
For troubleshooting on this, take a look at this article:
iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3694
    Error 13, 14, 35 and 50 (or -50)
These errors are typically resolved by performing one or more of the steps listed below:
Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including trying a different USB port directly on the computer. See the advanced steps below for USB troubleshooting.
Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer.
    Try a different USB 30-pin dock-connector cable.
    Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.
    Best of luck,

  • HP DeskJet 3510 Printer Alignment Page Doesn't print correctly.

Hi I have a strange problem with my HP DeskJet 3510. I took it out of the box installed everything loaded up paper and powered it on. It went through all the motions and blah blah and printed out an alignment page. Anyhow it didn't look right to me but I went ahead and scanned it anyway and it then said "ink cartidges are set to default color quality" or something to the effect. I hit ok and it went to the main menu.
Now from my wifes phone I can connect to the printer and print just fine but from our laptop the alignment is all jacked up. If I type a bunch of random lines into notepad or anything really it misses a bunch of lines and some lines just don't even appear. Which I could only think would be because the alignment page isn't right.
Also from app that gets installed from the software CD on the laptop I can choose to align the cartridges but when I do and it prints and I scan the page (that still looks jacked up to me) the software tells me the alignment failed and asks me to rescan after I put the page in there right. I know the page is in there right its face down and in the bottom right hand corner as it should be.
Now I have ran the cartdridge cleaning process several times took the cartridges out and looked for debris or anything that could be in the way even though I doubt its any of those things becuase like I had said earlier it prings perfectly from my wifes printershare app from her smart phone. Just as it appears on her screen. Only getting this issue from the PC.
Anyhow I am going to attach a photo of how the priner aligment page comes out from me doing it on the printers control panel and from the PC's software both it comes out looking like this. If you could please give me some advice to what to do next that would be great as I am out of ideas. Did I just get a bad cartridge? If so why would it print from my wifes phone fine and not from the PC? Is this how the alignment page should look (can't read any of the things on the lower portion really).
Other Info : PC is running Windows . Other PC has same problem running Windows XP. Wifes Phone is using PrinterShare app. Any information or helpful advice is appreciated thank you guys in advance.

Finally, after installing and uninstalling the print cartridges on my HP-3510 around 10 times; I finally got the alignment page to print and then scan successfully. It's a nice, very economical printer when it works properly. I was on the verge of tossing it but glad I didn't. I guess the lesson is that persistence can pay off. My thanks to the other two contributing posters.

  • The back button doesn' always work. Even right clicking on the page doesn't give me the option to go back and if i check the history, the page i was trying to go back to, is not listed.

I've noticed the problem yesterday and it has happened few times today again.

The "Use custom settings for history" selection allows to see the current history and cookie settings, but selecting this doesn't make any changes to history and cookie settings.
Firefox shows "Use custom settings for history" as an indication that at least one of the history and cookie settings is not the default to make you aware that changes were made.
If all History settings are default then the custom settings are hidden and you see "Firefox will: (Never) Remember History".
"Never Remember History" means that Private Browsing is active and "Always use private browsing mode" gets a checkmark.
You need to remove the checkmark on "Always use private browsing mode" to leave Private Browsing mode or chose the "Remember History" setting.

  • TS3297 The itunes "Purchased" page doesn't give me an option to view my past purchases, so I can download them

I've been successfully downloading TV episodes from iTunes to my iPad 2.  This morning, when I went to iTunes to download some previously purchased materials, the "Purchased" page was blank, and there was no box in the upper left hand corner for me to choose my previously purchased materials.  I tried turning the iPad off and back on and there was no change.  Any suggestions?  Thanks.

  • CS6 (Win 7) preview window in print dialog box doesn't match the one on the artboard... Help please?

Here's the screen shot.  If I ignore the preview, and set with the print area tool, I get what's in the print area tool.  Something is amiss in the land of tiling settings, but I can't get to whatever setting is messing this up.  thanks  greg

Well, you could just save as PDF and print from Acrobat...

  • Hi!  I am trying to print pictures from iPhoto.  I follow the directions and select a photo and click file-print-but it doesn't give me any size/printing options.  Instead I get a message that says "no themes available".  Do I need to install themes?

Hi-I am trying to print pictures from iphoto.  I selected a picture and tried file-print.  But instead of giving me size/layout options, it gave me a message, "no available themes".  Not sure what to do next--something I need to install?

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

  • I have added a location to an event in calendar the event has synced to my phone with the address but it doesn't give a preview or the option to direct to the location?

I have spent all morning trying to get locations to add to events on my iMac this now works and has synced with my phone but when I open the event in my phone it has the address but doesn't show a map and doesnt give an option to get directions. I have an interview in a city I've never been to before and will need my phone to direct me from the train station. I know I can just do a search when I arrive but surely there's a way to do it from the calander evernt without having to copy and paste the location from calander to maps?

Did you follow the instructions on that page exactly ? The instructions work for me e.g. selecting a free app in the App Store app and tapping on 'free', then 'install app' and 'create new apple id' - filling in my details then gave a 'none' option on the payment details :

  • Can not filter by Aperture Metadata (e.g., Landscape / Portrait Orientation)

On Aperture 3.1.3 (OS X 10.6.8) I've lost the ability to filter images in the browser using Aperture metadata.  Specifically, I used to be able to filter images by Aperture Orientation metadata that includes "Portrait" or "Landscape".  The filters do not find any images. I've deleted the com.apple.Aperture.plist file with no change in behavior.
Short of rebulding my library or reinstalling Aperture, what else can I try?

First -- if you haven't -- close Aperture, reboot your computer, and re-open Aperture with you Library loaded.  Then, triple-check that every setting/option in the Filter HUD is set correctly for the search you are trying.
    Then:
What happens if you change the setting at the top of the Filter HUD from {{" ... of the following that" "match"}} to {{" ... of the following that" "do not match"}}?
Do you get the same null result when you run the same Filter on different containers (e.g.: Photos, a couple of different Projects, maybe even a Smart Album such as "Shot in the last month").
What happens if you change the Aperture Rule to {{"Orientation" "is empty"}}, and then to {{"Orientation" "is not empty"}}.
Note that you can also simply change the Browser to List view and examine the contents of the "Orientation" column.
Before rebuilding your Library, you should always run "Repair".

  • Smart album based on landscape/portrait orientation?

Is there any way to add a smart album condition that limits included photos to those that are oriented as a landscape (or alternatively as a portrait)?
    Thanks!

No. You would need to keyword them appropriately.

  • Reader x 10.1.3 doesn't show print dialog when printing, for some users on Terminal Server

We are running Windows Server 2003 with Terminal Services for approximately 10 remote users.
A few days ago, some users started to complain about not being able to print pdf documents to their printer. I discovered that the print dialog box doesn't open, so they can't even select another printer.
If reader is set to open in browser, it just crashes the browser, if it set to open in Reader itself, it does nothing, no dialog,
I've tried removing the printer and reinstalling. Since it works from the console without issues, I thought it may be permissions related, so I added users to administrators group, with no success.
They can print from Outlook, Word, etc....just not pdfs.
    Can anyone help?
