Printer difficulties...

Here's my story. I have a wireless printer (a Pixma MP620B to be exact) I used to be able to easily wirelessly print from my MacBook over Wi-Fi. Then, the Wi-
Fi started getting slow so I had a new modem installed. After this, the printer lost contact with both my MacBook and my Windows 7 PC. I did some reasearch and foind out that this printer only works wirelessly over 802.11b/g, and my new modem runs on 802.11n. I decided that I can just set up a wire connection between the printer and MacBook. I purchased a double-sided USB to connect my MacBook and printer. Once connected, though, both my Mac and PC think the printer is just another hard drive. To be more specific, when I plug my printer into my MacBook, I notice that in Finder a new device appears in the sidebar called EasySuite. Clicking EasySuite shows me three files: autorun.inf, EasySuite.exe, and GO! Bridge. This just supports the fact my Mac thinks the printer is a hard disk. Also, trying to launch GO! Bridge just diplays a message titled "Remote computer is not connected or GO! Bridge is not running".
That's all the info I have. I don't know if I need to download a driver for the printer. I don't think I should need to since I used to be able to send prints to this exact printer wirelessly over a different wireless network. I have found no way of getting this printer connected to a wireless network. Is USB even an accepable way to connect a printer to a computer? Please give me any advice or links that you think will help. Thanks

You will need to contact Canon if you cannot find such a driver on Apple's printer drivers website and the Gutenprint and Gimp-Print for Mac OS X (10.2 and later) website.

  • Printing Difficulties with 11.0.01

Just downloaded & installed Reader Mac 11.0.01 and keep getting the error messages "The document could not be printed" followed by "There were no pages selected to print" when trying to print a document.  However, the software will not allow me to select any pages to print.  The document properties do allow printing.

Sorry! to elaborate, some users cannot print pdfs. The job is sent to the device but it does not appear on the print servers and nothing prints off the end device (Konica). No error messages are displayed. it looks like it is sent successfully to the printer but does not appear.
If you send an office document or a web page for example it prints out as normal.
Other users can print pdf's to the same device.  We have around 30 to 40 users that cannot print pdfs with 11.0.09 and about 1000 that can.
We have not found a fix other than to remove it.  All Windows 7 pc's use the same printer drivers

  • Epson printer difficulties

    Hi guys
first of all I am new to the Mac platform after years of using a PC, and so this is a problem that I had with an Epson d88 printer. I installed the drivers from the Epson web site but for some reason my printer could not detect them. I rang up Epson support and they talked me through the following: -
Drag and drop the Epson printer utility in the trash
Click Macintosh hd/library folder/ printers/Epson and delete the contents of the folder
Click Macintosh hd/receipts and look for an Epson pkg and delete (non found)
Open disk utility and choose repair file permissions
I then reinstalled the Epson driver again and still no joy until I rang up apple support and was told to switch everything off and on again starting with the printer. At last success, the printer drivers were finally detected.
My question is are the procedures I followed above correct? Have I unknowingly damaged my Mac? Have I done the equivalent of going into the registry on a windows pc and deleted files? Can someone be so kind to please advise?
Also I have heard of an application called appzapper which completely uninstall applications. Has anyone got any experience with this? Does it cause more harm than good? Is it worth it?
Thanking you for any advise/help in advance

    IMAC 24   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

You have not damaged your Mac or messed up your software. In fact, a simple restart might have set the printer up without all of the permutations you went through in the first place.
You can also install same or higher version software/drivers (including the OS) on top of the existing software without going through an uninstall. In fact, if things get too complicated or the system doesn't cooperate for some reason, just reinstall the Combined updater over your present system and then run the repair permissions routine. That takes all of about 5 minutes to complete.
OS X is incredibly robust and takes a lot of neglect to give you many problems. You might want to invest in an external firewire HD from somebody like OWC and duplicate your entire internal HD and update it routinely as I do with Retrospect or some such quality program. You can then boot from the external hard drive to do maintenance as required.
In fact, simply dragging the software from the application folder to the trash is all that is required to uninstall 90% of most programs. Then do a search in Spotlight to find the preferences and other items the installer may have thrown around and drag them to the trash.
Only core level programs like TechTool Pro and anti virus programs take more effort to uninstall and in 90% of the cases, the installer for these more complex programs come with uninstallers you can run by selecting the uninstall option.
OS X is simpler to maintain and keep in top condition than Windows. You have just simplified your life tenfold.

  • IMac Program and Printer Difficulties

I have an iMac G4, here are some details: iMac
    Machine Model: PowerMac4,2
    CPU Type: PowerPC G4 (2.1)
    Number Of CPUs: 1
    CPU Speed: 700 MHz
L2 Cache (per CPU): 256 KB
    Memory: 512 MB
    Bus Speed: 100 MHz
    Boot ROM Version: 4.3.5f1
Recently I got an Epson V200 scanner for it, and that worked fine, but there are
some problems with the Epson Stylus Photo R380 printer I got for it.
When I installed it, I was not able to add it to the list of printers, or
whatever the Chooser is called in OSX. I called Epson's tech support. They had
me trash and reinstall the driver, restart, and do a delete and re-add, and that didn't work. Then they had me do a Repair Disk Permission, and trash and reinstall the printer. That worked, but only for printing from Apple Mail. I still can't print from the internet, I immediately get an error message. The same thing happens in Illustrator 10, when I try to print I get a program error message. Photoshop 7, Photoshop Elements 4, and iPhoto are all messed up now. They won't even open a new file, or most existing files. When they do open a file, and I try to print it, I immediately get a program error message. Any help anyone could give me would be much appreciated. Someone suggested trashing the Preferences folder in Photoshop and the other programs, but I thought I would ask on here first. Thanks.

One other thing, before any of this happened, it was giving me a hard time about installing Dreamweaver MX into OS 10.4.11, when I tried to enter the serial number.
It did, however, allow me to install Dreamweaver 4 on OS 9. The OS 9 applications seem to be working fine.

  • Network Printing Difficulties

    Hi,
I am trying to share a Canon IP4200 connected to a Windows XP machine. Using the Windows Printing option through the printer setup utility, my mac mini is able to find the printer and add it to the printer list. The problem I face is that I am unable to select the correct printer driver. In fact, the appropriate driver does not show up on the Canon printer list. Alternatively, none of the GIMP drivers appear to be appropriate for this printer. Yet, if I connect the printer directly to the MAC USB port, the ip4200 drivers are loaded correctly.
Does anyone have any ideas on how to get the MAC to load the correct driver when I attach the printer to the XP machine?

The Canon Mac drivers will not work if you share the printer from Windows.
It should work with the PrintFab Drivers (but these cost).

We have two Ipad2's 64gb wifi in the house, one prints wirelessly the other no results even though it sees the printer, any thoughts, also while recently overseas the IPad having print difficulties also had wifi connection issues although no problems at home, any thoughts?

    Kristeen-
In case the printing problem is related to the WiFi problem, try resetting your iPad's WiFi network.  Go to Settings-General-Reset-Reset Network Settings.  You will probably need to reconnect the iPad to your WiFi.
It is also possible that there is a print job hung up in the Print Queue.  Double click the iPad's Home button and a row of recent Apps will line up along the bottom of the screen.  Scroll across and look for the Print Queue.

  • Printing problems SOLVED!!!

MP with 10.5 connected to G4 Dual 1.25 with 10.4.7 via direct enet cable, with airport also available. Epson SP 960 connected to G4.
Had no problems adding shared printers after Leopard upgrade. But when I tried to print, unless airport was on on both machines the MP could not find the printer. And even if airport was on, on both of them, it took forever (OK seemed like forever - but was actually several minutes) to "connect" and finally actually print the document. Printing was instantaneous when both machines were on Tiger. Was driving me nuts, but since I could print I was counting myself lucky.
On reading the printing threads here I found this thread:

has also provided a solution to the printing difficulties encountered under Leopard, especially to shared printers connected to another machine (Windows) on a network.
Here is his advice/step by step - worked for me, finally!
    +"Hey guys,+
+I have the solution for you.+
+Prerequisites: 1. your windows PC with the printer on it needs to have an admin account on it with a single word no spaces. (preferred unix) 2. your printer sharename is a single word (ie. Canon iP4300 should be just ip4300).+
    +Now follow the below steps:+
+1. Open your system preferences > Open Print & Fax+
    +2. Click + to add a printer.+
+3. Right-click on the Toolbar at the top and select "Customise Toolbar..."+
+4. Drag the "Advanced" icon to the toolbar & select "Done"+
    +5. Click the "Advanced" icon+
+6. Select "Windows" from the "Type:" drop down menu+
+7. In the "URL:" textbox type the location of your windows printer in the format below (use the format depending on whether your Windows PC sharing the Printer has a password or not):+
    +smb://username:password@ipaddress/printersharename <- Print Server does have a password+
    +smb://username@ipaddress/printersharename <- Print Server does NOT have a password+
    +(eg. smb://[email protected]/ip4300)+
+8. Enter a Name and Location. (Human Friendly Names with Spaces are allowed)+
+9. Now select the appropriate driver and then click "Add"+
+10. Try printing somthing and then it will ask for a username and password of your windows server. Type and username and then the password and then add this to your keychain and click OK.+
+And there you go. Printing in OSX 10.5+
    Cheers

Now, of course, I have to figure out how to point my MBP to a shared printer located on another - Win - machine on the network, WITH A DHCP, dynamic IP assigned. A minor wish actually...

  • Score printing problem

    Hello friends and neighbours
For a while now i have been having problems printing scores from logic express 8. I find that only blank sheets come out of my printer and that when i check my print selection in print preview or as a PDF both come out blank.
Perhaps i am overlooking something simple?
    Any ideas would be appreciated
    Love

I just came across this thread while searching for other users having printing difficulties. Like lots of other posters, I had zero problems pre-Leopard; I upgraded my machine, and the new machine came with Leopard preinstalled, and suddenly I'm having lots of difficulties printing.
I'm not using Logic--I'm actually trying to print scores from Finale 2006, or even as PDFs from Preview. Word X and other applications seem mostly to print okay still. Most scores print 1 or 2 pages, then automatically pause the printer. When I unpause it, I get a variety of responses. Sometimes it starts the print job again at page one, and prints without issue. Sometimes it returns to page 1 prints a couple of pages and pauses again. Sometimes it just begins to print garbage at the top of the page--usually when that begins, it will continue until I run out of paper, or until I can catch the printer and reset the job.
My printer is not a common one--I have a Ricoh AP2610 Laser, but I don't want to replace it, as it allows me to print 1200 dpi 11x17 pages, which I need for some scores.
Any other music printing folks out there having problems? Anybody got a fix?

  • PDF problem part 2...

I guess a lot of people are having pdf problems.
When I export a pdf of a Travel Journal doc and view with adobe reader 7.0, the borders on the photos are not there.
What is the word on this?
As you can see I don't have Tiger /PDF-X.
    Thanks

Not certain if this is quite the same thing, but.......
I have found problems when exporting to pdf, not when I open in Preview but when the person I am emailing the file to opens it in Acrobat, as all drop shadows are then lost, this makes professional printing difficult.
Resolved it for the moment by:
    1. exporting to pdf as normal
    2. using Graphic Converter which comes bundled with OSX to create a PSD file and sending that electronically. Slight problem was that the size of the file increased from 3mb to about 27mb, so had to download a free copy of Cyberduck ftp programme too. In fact saving it to jpeg was just about as good.
    3. you do have to do one page at a time but it works.

  • Soft Proofing?

For those here who are having success with their printing. What if anything are you doing about lack of soft proofing in LR.
My current situation is, I get acceptable prints only 50% of the time. Everything is color managed of course and I'm printing to Epson R2400 using Velvet Fine Art Paper and Epson current icc profiles.
What happens is I can make Develop adjustments to two similar images and when I print one comes out fine and the other does not.
Following advise of others I have set up presets for my printing and still check settings after clicking print button. All appears good but result are unpredictable.
I have managed to get some very nice prints on VFA paper so I know it's possible. Just seems like something in the settings is not sticking from one print to the next. Any thoughts on this issue? Like many others here I can print from Aperture or PS with 100% perfect results every time.
I have tried doing preview after starting the print dialog (osx) but the previews are always very oversaturated and very bright. I understand from reading elsewhere that OSX preview is not reliable. I've also tried printing to pdf first and opening in Acrobat however the result is still bright and oversaturated but not as much as the preview version.
I really want to stick with LR but this unpredictable printing thing is making it tough for me to do so. Trying to get consistent prints has so far cost me almost as much in paper/ink as I paid for LR. Since print output is my main goal it's important to me that I get this working. Otherwise LR will become a doorstop.
For the record: (in case Andrew Rodney weights in) I'm shooting with a Nikon D200, Raw in AdobeRGB, Macbook Pro with monitor calibrated with spyder2, using paper/ink icc profiles from Epson (I know their canned, but their the same ones used in PS with perfect results)in LR for my R2400 printer connected directly to my Macbook Pro using firewire.
    Is there something I'm missing?
    THH

"P.S. when a print comes out bad is always muddy, blocked up in the shadows and somewhat washed out overall(looks like its foggy). Is that a clue to anything?"
It's a clue that your image needs the contrast range of a glossy paper vs a watercolor paper...or that you need to go into the shadows to "open" them up so they print.
The d-max of a glossy paper (like Luster) can hit 2.39/2.4 on Luster but a watercolor paper can only hit 1.7 or so d-max. What that means is that between max white (paper white) and max black )d-max) a watercolor paper is gonna plug up from the midtones down to the shadows...black will be black which is the d-max.
And yes, having a soft proof function in Lightroom would greatly aid in evaluating how much "opening" of the shadows you need to do. Which is why I tend to round trip from Lightroom to Photoshop back to Lightroom very important fine art type prints. While in Photoshop, I can take advantage of local tone/color corrections while doing sharpening and image enhancements such as a mid-tone contrast adjustment, saving the -EDIT file back into Lightroom for printing. While in Photoshop (before saving) I will softproof using the paper profile I'll be using and add an ajustment layer or two (usually a curve and a Hue&Sat adjustment).
The imprtant factor here is to separate out problems using Lightroom functionality such as not using OS X saved presets, remembering to update LR templates and using the correct settings to print from issues of printing difficult to print images on low d-max papers.

  • Help! improving quality of PDF-X export

I've got pages and have just completed an important newsletter for work. It looks awesome, but when I export to PDF all of the shadows are gone. I've tried the PDF-X trick but the photos are very grainy and the shadows are really poor quality. I need to have this printed ASAP. Is there a way to improve the quality of a PDF-X file? Are there any other work arounds? This has been pretty disappointing. I'm using pages 1.0.2.

Not certain if this is quite the same thing, but.......

  • DMS Seal system watermarking solution

We have implemented Seal system watermarking solution for watermarking the PDF files in SAP DMS. But when we are opening these files, certailn files are opening with matermak as per our requirements, but some other PDF files are not getting opened. Weu2019ve analyzed the error u201CPDF DECRYPTION FAILEDu201D which is occurring for many PDF documents in SAP-DMS, and came to know that this error is due to certain properties of PDF files which SEAL system watermarking solution is unable to decrypt. For your reference, Iu2019m attaching a presentation capturing the properties for two different PDF files. SEAL system watermarking solution is unable to decrypt the first file but the second file is decrypted by the same system.

Behind this question is the assumption that all PDF documents are equal. In fact, this is not true. A PDF document can be created with many manipulation restrictions, security settings and even imbedded "rich content" and Javascripting - all of which make processing and printing difficult.
I've come to the conclusion that if you want to print a PDF, the physical version of the document should be prepared to ensure that the intended use, namely printing, can be carried out. Amongst the preparation activities are removing printing and manipulation restrictions, removing embedd rich content and Javascripting and ensuring all the necessary fonts are imbedded. This of course implies a level of document management that many customers haven't even thought of.
I believe SEAL have a product called PDF Checker, which can check amongst other things, whether the PDF document can be printed. The PDF checker can be integrated into the DMS document check-in process, to capture potential problems up-front during the document authoring cycle - when something can be done about it - rather in the document consumption process - during printing - when very little can be done about it.

    Hi Tomiwa,
You cannot print from the iPad to that printer. AirPrint and Bluetooth are completely different.
There may be apps you can buy that will enable using that printer, but that is not an ideal solution.
That particular printer has had many bad reviews, and is unreasonably expensive for its features. Considering that you just bought the printer, as well as its lack of AirPrint, I suggest you return it and buy a printer that supports AirPrint.
