Printer driver forgets duplex unit

Hi,
I have a problem with two sides printing: OS X keeps forgetting that a duplex unit is installed. Every time I want to use it I have to go to System Preferences -> Print&Scan->Options & Supplies -> Driver and mark it as available. In the next print job I have to do it again.
This occurs since the printer driver update before last one.
Specs: OS X Lion, HP Officejet Pro K550 attached with USB to an Airport Extreme.
Any suggestions, please?

I've no idea whether or not this might apply to your OfficeJet Pro 8600 printer; you can configure some printer drivers to disable 'automatic configuration', as per this example:

Print driver forgets its job!

I haven't had this problem before.
I imagine it's not the driver's fault, but something in the Mac system......
When I want to print, the dialogue [?] box appears and I specify print options. Then I click 'OK', and the process bar fills - but nothing happens.
I open the window which shows the status of the print job, and I see the job disappear. (Sometimes I can see it there for a moment, but then it's gone. And the words 'no job printing' appear).
I want my mummy!
Any advise gratefully received.

Hey, it's you again!
No result from the first link, but the second worked .... in an unexpected way, though.
I ran a repair and restart, but it still did nothing. Then I looked at the 'driver' section, and HP was blank (even though I had reinstalled yesterday).
So I uninstalled and installed the driver and it now works [- even though the Printer Setup Repair prog says there are still no HP drivers] (it shows about 10 other sets of drivers are in there, of course!).
So, thanks, it seems to work, but I'm not sure for how long.... There may be something else funny going on in that box full of tricks.

Duplex printing not working after installing HP Printer Driver Update 1.1.1

Hi,
our printers (Lexmark T622, HP Laserjet 2200, both equipped with a duplex unit) are managed by printer queues on our Mac OS X Server (10.5.5). Our users (mostly having Mac Books running 10.5.4 or 10.5.5) are printing by sending their jobs to the queues on the Mac OS X Server (via IPP/TCP/IP).
So far so good.
It seems that the users who have installed the "HP Printer Driver Update 1.1.1" aren't able to do duplex-printouts anymore. All sheets that leave the printers are printed on one side only - the "Duplex" setting by these clients is just ignored. Users who haven't installed the update yet, don't have the problem (at least it seems to me like this, but I have to admit that I've tested it with only three different Mac Books, yet).
My questions are:
- Has anybody else observed this behaviour, yet?
- Or, even better, does anybody have a solution to it? Reinstalling the printer on an affected client doesn't solve it. That's what I tried already.
- Is there any possibility to make the printer driver update "undone", which means to do a kind of downgrade from 1.1.1 to 1.1?

HP LaserJet Pro M1212nf MFP Printer Duplex Printing Driver

Hello,
I'm consdering about buying HP Laser Jet Pro M1212nf MFP Printer.
I feel like it's the printer that has all the specs that I need.... Except for automatic duplex printing.
Automatic duplex printing is super important to me and I'm sad that the M1212nf does not provide it.
However, I did see that it has duplex printing driver support.
I was wondering what this driver support is (I've been spending hours on the web trying to get a definition but nothing!)
and if it will work on a Mac, I saw couple threads that said that some HP printers don't offer duplex printing driver support for mac computers.
So basilally, I'm wondering how the duplex printing will work if I install the driver support.

Cannot duplex print on Win 7. Duplex Unit "Install" not available

Printer Photosmart C6280. System Win 7 64bits Ultimate
The duplex printing was working fine on Windows XP. Bought a new computer, Win 7 and installed drivers and softwares from HP web site.
So far, I can only do manual duplexing. I tried following the instruction:
Step one: Add the Duplex Unit to your printer settings
On the Windows taskbar, Click the Windows icon ( ), and then click Devices and printers .
Right-click the printer icon ( ) for your product, click Printer Properties , and then click the product. The Printer Properties window opens.
Click the Device Settings tab.
If necessary, click the plus sign (+ ) next to Installable Options to expand the list.
Click Duplex Unit , and then click Installed .
Click Apply , and then click OK .
But the dropbox at item 5 "Duplex Unit" is disabled (grayed out). So what do I do from there?

This makes sense. However, I am the only user on this computer and my status is administrator. Anyways, I tried all combination of ctrl-right-click, shift-right-click, ctrl-shift-right-click in trying to get a "run as administrator" but none works. Any other ways to run the printer properties as administrator?

Printer Automatic Duplex Unit uninstalled every night

I would love to be able to print double-sided all the time. I have set up the printer properties so that on "Device Settings", the Automatic Duplex Unit is "Installed". When I go to sleep at night, the magic automatic-duplex-unit goblins change it to "Not installed". It does not matter if I shut my laptop down, put it into sleep mode, or just close the lid.
How do I get the setting to stay "Installed"?

How do I install the Duplexing unit in an HP 7550 in Windows 7?

I have an HP Photosmart 7550 printer with only around 450 pages through it. I recently purchased a duplexing unit for it, installed it physically, but cannot get the software to recognize it's there. How should I go about getting this to work?
I should ad that it's configured through a dual port wireless print server, (Trendnet PEW-211G), and is working fine, just I can't activate the duplexer.

Printer driver hangs when printing with Office 2013/Windows 8 64 bit

Printer: HP Color LaserJet CM1312nfi
Printer Driver: V5.1 (up to date, downloaded from HP support website) or Generic V5.6
OS: Windows 8 Professional 64bit
When I try to print a certain Excel document with Excel 2013 and printer driver V5.1, the program hangs and needs to be terminated via task manager. This happens always with the same document, but not with all documents. The program hangs also when opening the print preview for the same document.
The same document prints fine with the generic printer driver V5.6 and with the driver that comes with Windows 8.
The same document prints fine with driver V5.1 under Windows 7 and Office 2010. The combination Windows 7/Office 2013 was not tested. The combination Windows 8/Office 2010 was also not tested.
When I try to print an empty document with Word 2013 and generic printer driver V5.6, the program hangs and needs to be terminated via task manager.
My conclusion is that the HP printer drivers have a problem with either Windows 8 or Office 2013 or a combination of both.
The printer driver that comes with Windows 8 and is automatically installed is useful as a temporary workaround, but it lacks certain options, e.g. manual duplex.
On request, I am ready to send the Excel document by e-mail for verification of the problem.
Any help or suggestions will be very much appreciated.

From what you describe you are having issues printing from MS Office. Have you had trouble printing from other resources on your computer (e.g. from the internet or another program)? The first thing I am going to suggest is that we start by uninstalling and reinstalling the printer from the resources available online.
First if you use a USB cord, make sure to remove it (this is important). Do not plug it back in until the software directs you to. Then go through the Devices and Printers, Programs and Features and Device Manager folders and insure that all copies, files, and programs related to the printer are removed. Then as directed, restart the computer.
In the START menu type "%temp%" and press ENTER. Here I want you to press Ctrl+A and hit DELETE. Some of the files will not allow you to delete them, skip those files and delete the majority that allows it.

Printer driver for an HP LaserJet 1000 series for use with Windows 7

The CD ROM HP LaserJet 1000 series printer driver is not recognized by my new Windows 7 PC. So the printer does not work. I've looked on the HP web site for compatible drives and get the hint that a Vista driver would work. Can someone please confirm if this possible and how this is accomplished? Thanks.

Where did you find a hint that Vista drivers would work? This page says:
Your LaserJet model is not supported in Windows 7.
For more information regarding upgrade programs and new product information, please visit the HP Trade-In/Trade Up website at www.hp.com/united-states/tradein/home_flash.html or directly from HP at www.hp.com .
Additionally, this page says the Laserjet 1000 is not supported in Vista.
If you are using the 32 bit version of Windows 7 it may be possible to download the XP drivers here and install them.

Print Driver Settings Not Saving at Print Dialog [IDCS3, Vista]

Hi. On our only design machine that runs Vista, when the user tries to print something from InDesign CS3 and has to turn on duplexing in the printer driver setup, on clicking OK, those settings immediately go away, and thus the document will not print duplexed. It works fine on our XP machines.
A workaround is to set such printer driver settings via Vista's Control Panel, and this does work, however it's a bit cumbersome, since we print all kinds of documents.
Pertaining Specs:
- Adobe InDesign CS3 (5.0.3) for Windows
- Vista Home SP1 (I think)
- Konica-Minolta Bizhub C500
- EFI Fiery 2.01 Driver for Vista / PostScript / Image Controller 405

It does say, "Double-sided: Yes," in Windows' printer properties for the Bizhub PS (and PCL) Fiery driver(s) -- in fact, this may have been from me turning it on for the PS driver in Windows Registry, as it was off for some reason, but seemed to make no real difference anyway -- but I think the duplexing option would have been grayed-out in the Fiery driver's dialog if not available as some various other options are -- the driver has the capability to poll the device for such options availability -- and I don't actually see anything duplexing-related on the Installable Options tab, but the Installed list is identical to one of our XP computers with no apparent issues with printing to the drivers from InDesign -- although at one point, if a Vista user printed an InDesign document and saved it (and thus the printer settings), XP users for some reason couldn't print the document without forcing a change in the print driver settings, but I believe this was due to using the same drivers but different TCP/IP port configurations per machine (Vista doesn't need the IP_ prefix as XP seems to).

Auto Duplex Unit on Officejet pro K550

Auto Duplex Unit works but will not carry over two-sided printing to next two-sided print job after exiting print. Must setup every time I need to print two-sided.

Adobe Pdf Converter Print Driver Will not install

Vista Utimate Service Pack 1
I have not been able to print to the PDF Printer. I get the following error when I select the PDF printer.
"The 'Adobe PDF Converter' printer driver is not installed on this computer. Some printer properties will not be accessible unless you install the printer driver. Do you want to install the driver now?"
When I say yes and select version 8.5.0.0 printer since it is the latest version. I get a Add Printer Driver Wizard window that says. "Unable to install adobe pdf converter, Type 3 - User Mode, x86 driver. Access is denied.
I went through all the recommended steps on the web site listed below with no success.

If you install Acrobat to a directory with a path that contains extended ASCII or double-byte
characters, then English installations will display the error message. Install to a path that does
not contain extended ASCII or double-byte characters.
Solution 2: Ensure that the Print Spooler process is running and set to
Automatic, and then repair Acrobat.
1. Select Start > Settings > Control Panel.
2. Double-click Administrative Tools and then double-click Services.
3. Locate the service Print Spooler.
4. If the Startup Type is not Automatic, then set it to Automatic:
a. Right-click the Print Spooler.
b. Choose Properties.
c. Choose the General tab.

I am having similar problems. After years of successful use, about a year ago, my printer (Epson stylus Photo R300) stopped working. After much investigation, it appears my computer no longer recognizes my printer. I've followed resets, safe boots, uninstalls, reinstalls, etc. This happened so long ago, I don't recall what I was doing when it happened. I'm figuring it happened shortly after a Software Update... So far none of the fixes recommended to me have solved the problem. I've been using Epson customer support, but they've stopped responding. None of their suggestions have seemed to work either.

Hi Lisa,
proceed as below.
1)Log in to HP-UX as root (or an other username that controls the printers, and has all the rights to the directories).
2)Type sam on the command line and press enter.
3)Scroll to Printer and Plotters with the vertical scrollbar.
4)Click twice on Printers and Plotters.
5)Double click on LP Spooler.
6)Click twice on Printers and Plotters.
7)Select Actions on the menu bar and click on Add Remote Printer/Plotter.
8)For Printer Name type any name, Remote System Name use the DNS/Host name, or alternatively use the dotted-IP (200.200.200.11). Remote Printer Name should be one of the destination ports on the Printnet (d1prn, d2prn, etc.). Also select Remote Printer is on a BSD System. Press OK and the server will install the printer.
9)Click on OK.
10)For a test print type lp d Printername /etc/protocols.
And finally dont forget to make this printer as the default printer if u have only this.
Right click on the printer and and say make default.

Why does Indesign reset my print driver?

When I go into the print dialog and click on "setup" to go to the Minolta Bizhub C450 print driver, I find that the items that I have changed (like collate, double sided, grayscale, the list goes on) have been changed back to the original setting after I exit out of the print driver. When I print from Acrobat, I can change the print setting and they stay. Example: If I want to print a file thats two sided, I hit <control P>, <settings> and enter the printer driver. I tell it that I want to two sided and I want "Right Binding". Exit the printer driver, go back to Indesign print screen and hit print. The file has printed two sided but the binding position has defaulted back to auto, not the "Right Binding" that I had asked for.
I have the new version 6.0.4 but it seems like my problems have started after this new version. Does anybody else have this problem?

I have just managed to resolve a duplex problem (CS4 not allowing duplex printing)
The same solution may help you.
On the indd print screen second selection setup there is a box that has 'A4' in it. This appears to be a default setting giving indd printer control.
I have changed that to Defined by Printer then I have saved that setting as a preset. I have done this for a A4 page (portrait) and for my A5 booklet Landscape). I select my preset as appropriate to the occasion before I print.
My understanding is by doing this CS4 surrenders and gives the printer control of printing.
It may be that in your case it indd will stop trying to control your printer (resetting it)

Xerox workcentre 7225 print driver fails while searching for networked printer

HelloJoe,Thanks - So I took those steps and the printer is created as a local printer using a TCP/IP port with the proper IP address for that printer. It appears I can get to its property pages. But when I try to print, the job goes to the queue and it just hangs eventually timing out and it shows error for printing that document... I can ping the IP adddress from the PC and it returns pings. ?

This unit is working fine from several other PCs, WIN 7 and WIN XP, in the building. Installing on a WIN7 64 bit PC. During the installation it starts to look for the networked printer and stops, posting the message - [ Xerox windows common installer has stopped ] , then installer just hangs. I have uninstalled and tried the following versions with the same error - Date: 2 Jun, 2014Version: 5.351.8.0.0Size: 17.7 MBFormat: EXEand tried Global Print driver Date: 15 Dec, 2014Version: 5.404.8.0Format: WWW NOTE - I even tried a manual driver installation which appears to work but the printer fails to print - returning a print error and cancels the job.
