Printer driver question

Decided to try printing from an Epson R300 I haven't used in a year or so. Printing from a Macbook Pro and Aperture. Looked terrible. Washed out, strange margins, just wrong. Went into System Pref>Printers and Fax and checked the printer profile. It was Gutenprint 5.1.3. Think this comes as part of Leopard but not sure. I tried downloading the latest drivers from the Epson site but they never show up. Then downloaded a Gutenprint uninstaller but as far as I can tell it uninstalled nothing. In other words all of the gutenprint profiles are still there. I had hoped I could then install the Epson drivers I'm trying to get to the point where I can use the Epson printer drivers but not sure what else to do. Any thoughts appreciated. Thanks, Jim

As to the Gutenprint 5.1.3 drivers included with Leopard. There is a known problem with that version of the drivers and Leopard. All Epson inkjet printers will print in Draft mode unless specific resolutions are set.
You are correct that the latest Gutenprint uninstaller will not remove the Apple supplied Gutenprint drivers on Leopard. If you want to delete the Gutenprint drivers, please use an older version of the uninstaller. Version 1.2.4 can be downloaded from _http://sourceforge.net/projects/gimp-print/files/Uninstaller%20-%20Mac%20OS%20X% 20ONLY/gutenprint-uninstaller-1.2.4.dmg_. Alternatively, you could download and install the latest version of the Gutenprint drivers from _http://gutenprint.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php_. You can just install this latest version on top of the version 5.1.3 already on your computer.
You should not have to download any drivers from Epson. The Epson drivers should have been installed as part of a standard Leopard installation. If you installed downloaded drivers on top of those, you may have corrupted the previously installed drivers. Go to the Library folder at the root of your hard drive. Find the Printers folder. Delete the Epson folder. Then insert you Leopard install disk. Find the folder for Optional installs. Install the Epson drivers as a customized install. *NOTE: Do not boot your computer from the installation disk.* Just do a customized install of the Epson printer drivers.

Want to use shared printer - driver question

Unfortunately I don't have my Macbook Pro with me to try this. My wife is using it for her business trip.
But I would like to install a shared Windows printer on the MBP. Will Leopard ask me for a driver?? If so, which driver is it asking me about? The Windows Imf file? The mac driver for the printer?

You must use a printer driver for the Mac and a printer driver for the Windows machine. The driver must be for the printer that will be used. Printer sharing must be activated on the computer to which the printer is connected unless it is a network printer connected to a router.

HP Laserjet 4100n network printer driver fails to install

I am trying to install the printer driver for an HP 4100n laserjet on an XP machine. I have downloaded the file "hp LaserJet 4100 Printing System (61.3 MB) from the HP web site. First issue is that upon executing the setup exe file the InstallShield stops at 99%. I have to end it via Windows Task manager. Occassionally I can get to 100% but I have no idea why only occassionally. If I boot into Safe Mode I get to 100% everytime.
Once in Safe Mode the wizard seems to operate properly, finding the printer on the network and returning the correct TCP address. I get to the end of the wizard and I get a Sever Error message and the wizard terminates.
I have two laptops and one other desktop connected to the 4100n via the network. I must be doing something wrong and could use some suggestions.

Printer driver hangs when printing with Office 2013/Windows 8 64 bit

Printer: HP Color LaserJet CM1312nfi
Printer Driver: V5.1 (up to date, downloaded from HP support website) or Generic V5.6
OS: Windows 8 Professional 64bit
When I try to print a certain Excel document with Excel 2013 and printer driver V5.1, the program hangs and needs to be terminated via task manager. This happens always with the same document, but not with all documents. The program hangs also when opening the print preview for the same document.
The same document prints fine with the generic printer driver V5.6 and with the driver that comes with Windows 8.
The same document prints fine with driver V5.1 under Windows 7 and Office 2010. The combination Windows 7/Office 2013 was not tested. The combination Windows 8/Office 2010 was also not tested.
When I try to print an empty document with Word 2013 and generic printer driver V5.6, the program hangs and needs to be terminated via task manager.
My conclusion is that the HP printer drivers have a problem with either Windows 8 or Office 2013 or a combination of both.
The printer driver that comes with Windows 8 and is automatically installed is useful as a temporary workaround, but it lacks certain options, e.g. manual duplex.
On request, I am ready to send the Excel document by e-mail for verification of the problem.
Any help or suggestions will be very much appreciated.

From what you describe you are having issues printing from MS Office. Have you had trouble printing from other resources on your computer (e.g. from the internet or another program)? The first thing I am going to suggest is that we start by uninstalling and reinstalling the printer from the resources available online.
First if you use a USB cord, make sure to remove it (this is important). Do not plug it back in until the software directs you to. Then go through the Devices and Printers, Programs and Features and Device Manager folders and insure that all copies, files, and programs related to the printer are removed. Then as directed, restart the computer.
In the START menu type "%temp%" and press ENTER. Here I want you to press Ctrl+A and hit DELETE. Some of the files will not allow you to delete them, skip those files and delete the majority that allows it.

Can't find a printer driver for LaserWriter Select 360?

My older G4, which I just upgraded from OS 9.2 to OS X10.3.9 (I was reluctant to leave PageMaker), doesn't have a printer driver for my Apple LaserWriter Select 360. It finds my Epson 2200 with no problems. I've tried two shareware programs. The first seemed to say that Apple Printer Drivers were missing and that it had reinstalled them (but I don't remember the name. I found it in one of the threads here). But there was no sign of the LaserWriter when I tried to print. The second program I tried was Pacifist, figuring I could just reinstall that one printer driver from the Panther disks. But I couldn't see it anywhere though there was two Epsons, Hewlitt Packard and others. I tried the Apple website, but had no luck. I know there is one because two other computers we have in OS Xs can recognize the printer. Is there a driver out there I can download or is there someway I can get it off the other computer I have that is in 10.3.9? It's really frustrating to have to transfer the regular stuff I want to print to another computer.

We're halfway there...maybe! The printer shows up on the list, but when I try to print something (I tried an InDesign file, also a Word one), the computer sends the file and the printer starts, but then puts the job on hold (the green light on the printer never blinks). If I click Start Job, the same thing happens again.
When I looked at Help and found "Setting up to print to an IP Printing network printer," it said to "type the IP address or DNS name for the printer in the Printer Address field." I looked through my "User's Guide" and didn't know what that was. It wouldn't let me "ADD" the printer without one so first I typed in the whole name of the printer that was on the list below. Then it let me ADD, but not print. Then I tried it again with the word "home." Same thing, it added the printer but wouldn't let me print.
One other question I had was when I got to the Add Printer, IP Printing, I had to choose a "Printer Type." It was on LPD/LPR so I left it. I didn't know what any of the choices meant. Perhaps that was wrong.
Now that the LaserWriter is on the list, can we make it print?

Is there a univeral printer driver for HP Color LaserJet CM1312 MFP on Windows 7 64 bit?

I had bought a HP Color LaserJet CM1312 Multifunction Printer last year - up to now I could print out via the computer of my doughter (Windows XP), but now this computer is bugged and I would like to be able to use also my own Windows 7 64 bit Computer. Unfortunately the "Full solution" does not work at all, while there also appears to be no Universal Printer Driver for my special printer. In other words: I can´t use the printer and I am upset (HP at its best?).
Is there any way to get a printer driver that does what it is supposed to do?

Mac OS 10.5 Bonjour Unable to find printer driver for P1606dn connected via wired network.

I have been trying to connect my HP Laserjet Pro P1606dn to my PowerMac G5 running Mac OS 10.5.8. I connected the priner to my LAN via Ethernet cables and NetGear 8-port switch. I then successfully installed the printer driver from the supplied CD on the Mac and went to System Preferences / Print & Fax to add the printer to the list of connected printers. Hit the "+" button. The HP P106dn was listed in the table (Kind = Bonjour).
I selected this entry in the table, and the dialog box immediately went into action: the "Print Using" pullodwn listed the greyed out message "Please select a driver or printer model" and a spinning wheel labeled "Searching for new drivers" appeared below it. The dialog box searches for but never finds the printer driver (I waited 20 minutes with no success). I have installed other HP printers this way on this machine without any problem, e.g., HP Color Laserjet 2605dn. Why is this method not working with this printer?
I was able to connect this printer with other (Intel) Macs in my household via this LAN arrangement. Is the printer driver for Intel-only Macs?
I disconnecting the printer from the LAN and connected it directly to my Mac with a USB cable. Followed the same process, and I was able to connect to this printer. Successfully printed a document page. While this provides me with a work-around for the G5 Mac, I need to share this printer with the other Macs in my household.
I went to the HP download site and downloaded the latest driver for this printer, re-installed the printer driver on the Mac, and repeated the steps for the LAN arrangement (above) to complete the connection via the Print & Fax dialog. The result was the same: spinning wheel searching for a printer driver that it cannot find.
I do not know what else to do, or why this installation will not work. I would appreciate it very much if anyone could offer an explanation for this or some suggestions as to what else can be done?

I apologize for the delay in responding to you. I was on the road all day yesterday.
OK. I switched the printer's Ethernet cable to a Linksys Switch (Model EZX S55W) that's part of this local network. That did not work. I swapped out the cable for one that I know works. Still no change. I switched the printer's Ethernet cable directly to a port on the router. No change. I even swapped cables here, too, but no success.
As I was doing all this, I was wondering: When I select the HP P1606dn printer in the Print and Fax "Add" dialog box, (see the image below) and the Print Using pulldown menu displays "Please select a driver or printer model" and the message "Searching for new drivers" appears under it (with the spinning wheel), why is it that the Ethernet connection to printer is critical to "finding" a new (printer) driver?
Isn't the utility searching through my system and libraries looking for a printer driver app for the printer that I identified/selected in the dialog box?
After all, if the dialog box lists the printer among those to choose from, hasn't the utility already discovered the printer via the Ethernet connection?

Printer driver embedded in win 8.1 64bit not working

Hi,
my photosmart 8750 printer, which is a great printer and still works fine, at least with my old laptop running windows xp that is....unfortunately with the embedded HP printer driver in windows 8.1 (64bit) it is not working at all.
This is what is been happening so far, first time connected, the printer is recognized by windows 8.1 and the driver automaticly installed, if a printer test page is send it prints normally. But that is it, anything else, pdf,word doc or a picture will not print!
The printer responds to a print command, by starting something that sounds like it's going to print but after a few seconds it stops and nothing happens after that, if I look in the dialog box where docs are normally listed while they are waiting for being printed there's nothing, I'veallready restarted the print spool service but that didn't work...also reinstalled the printer a few times, but that didn't help....
My perception at the moment is that the driver for win 8.1 is the problem, because the printer works fine with the original HP driver on my win XP laptop.
Hopefully there's a workaround for this problem.....

HP DeskJet 2510 Printer Driver conflict in Windows 7 64bit

I have just changed my PC from Windows XP Home to a new machine running Windows 7 64bit. I installed the DeskJet 2510 printer from the CD/online and it was fine apart from a lot of errors in the Event Viewer:-
"The print spooler failed to load a plug-in module C:\Windows\system32\spool\DRIVERS\x64\3\UNIDRVUI.DLL, error code 0xc1. See the event user data for context information."
From looking on the web it appeared that the solution may be to reinstall the driver which I did, by uninstalling then completely reinstalling the Basic Device Software. Since reinstalling (several times now!) the HP Print & Scan Doctor is reporting a Printer Driver conflict and suggesting that uninstalling and reinstalling is necessary! As I havealready gone through this loop several times I am wondering if there is a bug somewhere.
The Test Print page is fine and everything appears to work correctly apart from continuing error messages as above, up to 4 at a time, mainly when printing envelopes from MS Word.

Maybe I have missed a step. Let's try opening the Device and printers, clicking on the printer so the Printer server Properties option appears, click server Printer server Properties, but then click back on the Device and Printers window. Delete the printer icon from here, then return to the Printer server Properties window and delete the driver.
If this works I am sorry I didn't think of it sooner

I can't find HP LaserJet 1100 printer driver.

I got My Mac to "see" my PC's shared folder and I'm so excited. Then I tried to print but it didn't have my print driver: the HP LaserJet 1100. Is there some way to get it or some other way to make it work?

Landscape settings are ignored when printing envelopes - Apple hosed their HP printer driver.
Is there a way to go back to the previous version of the driver?

No solution, but will add that as of the security upgrade (10.9.2), landscape settings are ignored on my Canon MG 6220. All relevant software is the most recent. I have tried every solution offered in support EXCEPT using the AirPrint drivers in lieu of Canon's because they are 1) less functional; and 2) have booby-trapped default settings that require 3 extra steps to print anything. That this question is this old suggests Apple doesn't really care.

Duplex printing not working after installing HP Printer Driver Update 1.1.1

Hi,
our printers (Lexmark T622, HP Laserjet 2200, both equipped with a duplex unit) are managed by printer queues on our Mac OS X Server (10.5.5). Our users (mostly having Mac Books running 10.5.4 or 10.5.5) are printing by sending their jobs to the queues on the Mac OS X Server (via IPP/TCP/IP).
So far so good.
It seems that the users who have installed the "HP Printer Driver Update 1.1.1" aren't able to do duplex-printouts anymore. All sheets that leave the printers are printed on one side only - the "Duplex" setting by these clients is just ignored. Users who haven't installed the update yet, don't have the problem (at least it seems to me like this, but I have to admit that I've tested it with only three different Mac Books, yet).
My questions are:
- Has anybody else observed this behaviour, yet?
- Or, even better, does anybody have a solution to it? Reinstalling the printer on an affected client doesn't solve it. That's what I tried already.
- Is there any possibility to make the printer driver update "undone", which means to do a kind of downgrade from 1.1.1 to 1.1?

A network installed HP8600, will not connect to a new client with OS WIN7SP1, WSD Print Driver err

My home network consists of 3 computers with OS WIN7-SP1 and a Networked HP8600 connected thru a Linksys E3200 router. 2 of the 3 computers have been on the network with the 8600 for several months and have had ongoing problems with receiving a print command. I've been trying to load the Printer software on the 3rd computer for the last 2 days without success. The software fails to complete installation and hangs up when trying to ID the Networked 8600. I had HP Print and Scan Dr. operating in the background and it found the printer, and gives the message "Installation failed", "Windows can not find a suitable Printer driver". Is there a fix that my research is failing to find?

If you connect the printer to the router using the Ethernet cord it is effectively "wireless" to all the other devices on the network. You just have to select "Network - Ethernet" as your connection type and install the printer that way to ensure they are all connected. If you do this, the printer will not have to be tangiby "connected" to any of the computers on your network.

Why does my Acrobat Pro 9 PDF print driver either lock up or become confused as to where it should store a file when printing a document from within the Firefox browser?

I use Adobe Acrobat Pro 9.4.5 for creating .pdf files on a Windows XP SP3 platform. Firefox 6.0.2 is my browser of choice. This question only applies to the .pdf printing process. All other printer drivers work fine with this version of Firefox.
In attempt to save paper, I choose to print most documents in an electronic .pdf format using the PDF print driver and save them to my USB drive. Before upgrading my Firefox version to 6.0.2 this process seemed to work fine but after upgrading the .pdf print process seems to be experiencing problems. This particular printing process will cause Firefox to lock up when the distiller tries to print the file to what I believe is a temporary folder under the Adobe folder. When it does this I am sometimes able to force it to complete the process but frequently it will only produce a log not a .pdf file. On other occasions the distiller will just lock up mid print without producing any kind of error message. In both cases I will frequently have to use Windows Task Manager to break out of the process which then shuts down the Firefox browser. I don't seem to have any problems when I use Internet Explorer to perform the same function. As far as I am aware I am running the most current drivers as Adobe automatically pushes down updates to me as they become available. Any ideas how I can overcome this issue or is it inherent to the new version of Firefox?

The PDF file itself does not control the "print as image" preference, which should always be turned OFF unless there's a specific need to rasterize the entire page, and is turned off by default in all Acrobat and Adobe Reader installations.
What's the filetype for the ultralight font and what export setting* are you using in ID? If you're exporting to earlier than PDF1.7, OpenType fonts will be converted and may experience some small changes in shape if their hint definitions aren't done right.
*As a side note, bear in mind that InDesign does not use any part of Acrobat when exporting PDFs, so questions specific to that stage in the process should be posted to the InDesign forums.

My Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit system has a built-in driver for this printer model:
I don't know whether the driver is present on a fresh Windows install; it may only have appeared in the list after the Windows Update button was clicked on the above Add Printers dialogue, then waiting (perhaps for several minutes) whilst additional drivers were downloaded, and the list repopulated.
I'd assume that the same might be true of earlier Windows versions as well.
