Printer drivers, server 2012 R2

I believe that is because you are using V4 drivers.
Does it not work correctly?

We just migrated to 2012 R2 this weekend.  I setup printers on the server with correct drivers.  However, when I install them on a workstation I am getting the "microsoft enhanced point and print driver" instead of the PCL 6 driver I installed??

how to disable easy print in server 2012 r2

    Hi,
To disable RD Easy Print on server 2012 r2, we need to disable the policy setting “Use Remote Desktop Easy Print printer driver first” under following path.
    Computer Configuration\Administrative templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Printer Redirection
Please check below article for checking RD Easy print.

  • Share IPP printer in server 2012

    Hello,
I want to set up a server 2012 print server to share cups printers. These cups printers are available as IPP printer.
I can add an IPP printer all right on the server, but I don't have the option to share that printer.
It simply tells me "Sharing is not suported for this type of printer"
    What am I doing wrong?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Print Servers that have IPP enabled will automatically make a shared printer available through the relevant
Point and Print sharing mechanism, as well as IPP.
Print servers will publish a webpage that lists available IPP shares, and Windows clients connecting to those shares can download available v3 drivers directly from the print server. For more details, please refer to following article.

  • Printers added and shared without access to printer properties - Server 2012

On a Server 2012 domain controller, without the Print Management role installed, I have added a network printer through ‘Control Panel’ > ’Devices and Printers’, shared it through group policy, and the domain
member computers are able to print to the shared printer. But the printer never showed up in ‘Devices and Printers’ folder on the server.
The problem comes in since there is no way to edit the settings of the printer. The print queue for the printer does show up in Device Manager. I right-click the printer and select ‘Properties’, open the ‘Settings’ tab, and follow the link that
states, “Please go to the Devices and Printers folder to manage your printer”.
But this just opens up the ‘Devices and Printers’ folder which, does show/contain my printers.
If you are asking why the Print Management role is not used, It is because this system is self-contained and the most minimal features are installed on all computers for security compliance reasons. Therefore we typically just install the printers
on the domain controllers (via Devices and Printers) and then share them via Group Policy to the small number of workstations on the segregated network.
Did the ability to bypass installation of a Print Management role, and still edit printer settings, change for Server 2012? (We were able to do this with Server 2008R2. However, I can’t find any specific Microsoft documentation describing the change.)
So to try to fix this issue on the affected system (from my explanation above), I installed the Print Management role but the printers I created in ‘Control Panel’
don’t show up in Print Management. I still have no way to access the printer settings. Do I have to reinstall the printers? How do I remove the old printers? Do I just remove the ‘Print queues’ from Device Manager?
I tried to replicate my issue on a test system domain controller, built with very similar installation scripts as the affected system above was. I added a printer via ‘Control Panel’ > ‘Devices and Printers’, shared them, and they do not show up. However,
when I then install the Print Management role, the printers I created in ‘Control Panel’
now show up in Print Management. This is different than my affected system above.
If anyone could provide any insight on why this is happening it would be much appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Dan

Most likely this is a security setting on the print shares. When you open Devices and Printers, the security token for BUILTIN accounts is not passed to the Explorer process so launching this User Interface as administrator does not contain the ADMIN security
token. If you have removed the Everyone group from the printer security, then the printer can disappear in this UI.  For printer admin tasks you should use the tools provided by the print team Printmanagement.msc.
Adding the Print Role opens the spooler RPC endpoint ( which you can also do by sharing a printer ) and adds the tools.
Can you just add the tools without installing the Role?

  • DVD drive not recognised after initial install of software and drivers - Server 2012 R2

    Hi
I have a SATA DVDRW drive that isnt being recognised by windows server
It is recognised in bios, and was initially recognised by windows, until installing an AV on the server.
Looking under device manager, it can still be seen, but only as a hidden device (greyed out).
Both the C: drive and the DVD drive are set in IDE mode in the bios (believe that is just meaning they are sandalone, rather than RAID mode)
If the DVD drive is moved to another SATA port it is recognised by windows, however I want to keep these ports free, so i can use them to RAID my other HDDs as and when i get round to buying them.
    System specs:
OS - Windows Server 2012 R2 with updates (Microsoft Dreamspark)
    MB - ASUS M5A78L/M - USB3
    RAM - 1x 4GB DDR3
DVD drive - SAMSUNG superwritemaster SH223L
Any help would be good :)
soz if this is in the wrong forum, just point me to the right one
    Thanks
    J
Hi guys - thanks for the responses.....
we just tried something simple - swapping the OS drive and the DVD drive over (DVD was in sata 5, OS in sata 6 - now the other way round)
This seems to have worked, so we are going to keep it that way round
    Seems Silly yet simple
    Thanks again

hi, so you say that the drive will work in another SATA port is there the potential that the SATA port you are currently using has a fault? does it work with any other hardware?
another option is a classic windows fault regarding the corrupt registry filters that would make a CD\DVD drive disappear in explorer, however i am not sure if this problem afflicts sever 2012. you could give it a go to see if it resolves the issue
Press the Windows logo key + R to open the Run dialog box.
Type regedit in the Run dialog box, then press Enter. If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, type
    the password, or click Allow
In the navigation pane, locate and then click the following registry subkey:
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}
In the right pane, click UpperFilters.
Note You may also see an UpperFilters.bak registry entry. You do not have to remove that entry. Click UpperFilters only. If you do not see the UpperFilters registry entry, you still might have to remove the LowerFilters
registry entry. To do this, go to step 7.
On the Edit menu, click Delete.
When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
In the right pane, click LowerFilters.
Note If you do not see the LowerFilters registry entry, go to the next resolution.
On the Edit menu, click Delete.
When you are prompted to confirm the deletion, click Yes.
    Exit Registry Editor.
    Restart the computer.

  • 32bit Printer Drivers on 2012 64bit Server

    Quick synopsis:
64 bit Windows 2012 server setup completed.
Most of our users are 32 bit Windows XP.
I've found many of the forum posts helpful, and I've started making sure that the drivers being used are Type 3 (by installing the 32 bit driver and pointing to that one).
But what happens when the driver doesn't show up?
Let me explain. I've added the required driver (32 bit) to the driver section of the Print Management Window.
I then chose to re-add a printer I had previously removed (in order to redirect it to get Type 3). When I get to the "Use an exisiting printer driver on the computer" on the "Network Printer Installation Wizard" The driver I added, doesn't
    show up.
Not sure what to do now.
    Help.
    thanks

So, this problem is still going.
I've tested this out on a Windows XP machine. And obviously, not all the drivers are working. The ones that DO work, are the printers with Type 3 - User Mode.
When downloading a new driver (mostly ALL Hp Laserjets), should I even BE downloading a 32 bit xp driver? or only the 2012 drivers? Are 32 bit drivers included on that? I know that's probably more of a HP question. But how am I to switch these drivers over
to a Type 3 Driver type, if I'm only downloading 64bit drivers?

    Hi Roberto,
Thank you for posting in Windows Server Forum.
This error might be caused by one of the following conditions:
    -  The printer is not reachable on the network
    -  Windows cannot allocate sufficient memory
    -  There was invalid or incomplete data received by the print spooler
    -  A driver upgrade failed
    -  There is a bad printer device driver

  • I cannot seem to find the Version 3 print drivers to make XP work from my server 2012 r2 environment. I read that the v3 should fix the XP errors I continue to get, but WHERE do i dowlnoad these? Cant find them anywhere.

Does anyone know where to find V3 drivers rather than v4. I'm having issues with XP working in my server 2012 environment.
    Thanks in advance!

the vendor provided version-3 compatible print driver should be used for the device. Check Windows Update and the device manufacturer for a v3 driver.

  • Branch Office Direct Print (Server 2012+W8) Discrete Drivers does not function

All of the print drivers support CSR and are unique to the devices (no UPDs used). BODP setting is set to True and "Render Print Jobs on client computers" is checked. "Hold Mismatch documents & Keep printed documents" are not checked.
When I shut down the print spooler on the server, the printers on the W8 clients all go offline. When I print to the W8 print queues, I see them go through the server (paused, then released).
Do I need to check the "Print directly to the printer" setting under advanced on all of the queues on the server as well?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

  • V3 Printer driver on Windows Server 2012

    Hello there.....
I have installed Print services on Windows Server 2012. I have read several forum and found that it is a best practice to install V3 drivers if workstations run on Windows 7.
Our all of workstations have windows 7 so I want to install v3 printer drivers. we have printers of HP and Canon mostly.
So can anyone tell me how can I get V3 drivers of HP Laserjet P4015 for example...
I have installed a driver but found its v4.
Please tell me how can I install V3 driver for HP, Canon printers.....
    Thanks
    Kind Regards
    Namvi

You would need to use the V3 drivers that the vendors provide to Windows Update

    or from the vendors website

  • Windows 7 64 bit / Server 2012 R2 GUI - Type 4 Print Driver error "Cannot connect to the Printer" 0x00000002

Hello,  We have multiple Server 2003 Print server and are working on testing a Server 2012 print server.  We have run into an issue where a PRINTER (type 4, normal) works with our Windows 7 32 bit clients, Windows 8.1 64 bit clients and the
2012 R2 server, but when trying to install to a windows 7 64 bit clients using \\SERVER\PRINTER we are getting the above message.  (The printer is not offered currently in the directory).
I have been scouring the Google and Bing and have yet to find a satisfactory description that matches this issue.  Nor have I found other information that resolve this issue.  Like, blaming this on the spooler or DLL fixes or Reg hacks (applied
    on the client side).
Specifically, we have used the native 2012 R2 drivers "Ricoh Class Driver", "HP LaserJet 4240 PCL6 Class Driver" and "Xerox Phaser 6120 Class Driver"
If I use a Type 3 driver from Xerox I am able to print from the Windows 7 64 bit client to the print device, but I was hoping to get all of my clients onto 1 driver.  I understand that I might be able to use some sort of WMI filtering in our GPO
deployments for the Windows 7 64 bit clients when we go live but this sort of <gs class="GINGER_SOFTWARE_mark" ginger_software_uiphraseguid="55af8faf-887d-4ea5-9032-7c14b199df0f" id="db4a1e65-db1b-4c94-bd84-20ffc96288ce">henky</gs>.
Please, provide some knowledge.  Either a solution to this issue or acknowledgement that separate driver will be required.  Thank You!!!!!

  • Windows Server 2012 Standard - HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus printer not working after promoting to Domain Controller / AD Services

An associate and myself installed the built-in drivers for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Plus multi-function (network) printer on a Windows Server 2012 Standard server installation and everything worked fine whenever I want to print anything directly from the
Windows Server machine (there's a reason for this, so please understand that ;)  ).
We were able to print without any problems from the Windows Server 2012 machine, using the drivers from Microsoft.  Mainly, because HP has not listed any specific support for Windows Server 2012, only Windows Server 2008 R2, however, the drivers that
came with Windows 2012 seem to work very well.
PROBLEM: I later had to promote the Windows Server 2012 to a Domain Controller, and created the Active Directory configurations, even enabled the Print Services.  After doing all of that, the HP printer will not print anything.  It's like all print
requests directly from the Windows Server go to Nil.
Has anyone encountered a problem like this before? The only thing I can think of is that after perhaps something affected printing directly once we promoted the server to being a DC, and added other features / roles.  I even tried installing the
HP drivers for Windows Server 2008 R2, and the results are still the same...nothing prints.  Trust me, the printer is set as the Default Printer and even when choosing to print, we make sure the HP OfficeJet Pro is selected, and is on, as other Windows
Client PC's can print to it directly.
Does anyone have any suggestions we could try?  Thanks in advance.

While it is quite a while since this was posted - I can concur a similar issue exists.
We have spent the better part of a day trying to work out why other HP printers work fine but our 8620 prints are not printing and going to Nil.  The print server is hosted on a shared DC.  Comparing to the initial posters details, for some reason
it seems to be most commonly related to the OfficeJet Pro 8600/8610/8620/8630 series printers.
I ended up doing a print server migration from the domain controller to stand alone host and all printers now work from a single server rather than a mix.  Domain controller OSes varied from 2008, 2012, 2012 R2 (tested with multiple) and only after
all of those failed then tried a stand alone server os machine as a last resort which worked fine.  Printing directly from Win 7 / 8 /8.1 clients to the IP always worked.

  • Printing Problem with Epson LX-300+ii and LX-310 in Windows Server 2012 R2 64-bit

    I recently installed Windows Server 2012 R2 64-Bit.
We have Printer Epson LX-300+ii and LX-310 (dot-matrix) that we share among users. Each user access the Server using Remote Desktop. From previous experience with Windows Server 2008, I knew that these printers will be problematic, especially regarding
    the Easy Print driver.
And I was right, using the Easy Print driver, I got the following result:
And so, I did manual mapping & disable the "Use Remote Desktop Easy Print printer driver first". Haha, what a surprise, I got the following result:
And so I uninstalled the printer driver, and install it again, thinking that I might chose a wrong driver, but.... same result. I know for sure that I chose the correct driver.
Next, I tried connecting the printer DIRECTLY to the server. Log-in to the Server directly,
not using Remote Desktop. And tried printing again, haha... really... what a surprise... I got the same problem here !!!
So now I know the problem is not the Easy Print driver, not mapping or registry problem either. It's the print driver. This is SUPER FRUSTRATING, I tried the same driver from the same CD in Windows 8.1 64-Bit with no problem. I tried it too in Windows 7
32-Bit with no-problem either. But somehow, this driver is problematic in Windows Server 2012 R2.
Any help? Anybody else bump into this same problem ? I'm close to giving up, been spending too much time figuring out this damn thing.
    Andy

    Hi Bulent Sahin,
Thank you for your reply, I tried IBM Graphics driver, but the result is equally as bad. But your answer inspire me to try different drivers. And so, the closest & best driver that I could use now is EPSON ESC/P 9pin V4 Class Driver
It's not as good as I would expect, but at least now, it's acceptable & readable. I can't believe that I'm the only one who have this problem
    Thank you Mr. Sahin
